Pardew: No deal for N’Zogbia or Taylor, but we still have cash for a striker.

Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew
Pardew's latest musings.
It looks as though any moves for Charles N’Zogbia and Neil Taylor are now dead in the water as Alan Pardew admitted defeat in the pursuit of the duo.

N’Zogbia has been linked with a move back to Tyneside for some time now although the admission from Pardew that the Frenchman has an imminent move lined up means that it’s now almost certain that he will not be returning to St James’ Park.

Meanwhile, as reported previously Neil Taylor looks like he’ll stay at Swansea after the Welsh outfit offered him a new contract, and a rumoured £12,000-a-week pay rise to boot, and held face-to-face talks with the left-back. With Newcastle seemingly unwilling to raise their initial bid from what they believed was written into Taylor’s contract it appears that particular deal is also dead.

Speaking of the pair Pardew said: “I am told that Charles has got an imminent move, so I don’t think that will be us. Neil Taylor, I think, will not come to the club. We got to a situation where we thought there was a price set in his contract and that hasn’t proven to be the case.”

“Therefore it started to get a little bit higher than we anticipated in terms of a fee, so I think the boy will end up staying at Swansea.”

However Pardew is adamant that all is not lost as the club look to bring in another striker ahead of the new season. He claims that money is still there for a striker “of the right ilk” although quite how long it remains available for transfers before it gets earmarked for repainting the lines in the car park is anybodys guess. My advice would be for Pardew to move quickly before new lampshades need purchasing!

“I don’t really want to mention names, but all strikers who are available, we are keeping a close eye on. It’s important that we keep bolstering the team as best we can,” said Pardew, who was happy to mention the name of Mevlüt Erdinç yesterday. He continued:

“We have obviously been looking for a striker – we are still bidding for a striker as we speak – so we are doing all we can to get the right players for Newcastle.”

“It’s not easy, it’s not an easy market – strikers are always the most difficult to get across the line – but we are working hard on it.”

Pardew has previously talked of recruiting a further two players on top of our summer signings already acquired, although he does now admit that with a striker taking the priority it will depend on what cash is left after they manage to bring that elusive goalscorer through the door.

Asked whether there would be more than one signing Pardew said: “It depends, really, on the attacker that we hope to secure.”

“There has been talk of the money we have got in and where has it been spent, etc, etc. But you would be surprised with the deals we have done, it actually amounts to a fair bit.”

“We have got enough to bring a striker in of the right ilk for this football club, and that’s what we need to focus on. When we secure that player, then we will look again.”

So there you go. Details from Alan Pardew’s very latest press conference. No N’Zogbia, no Neil Taylor, but definitely, maybe, a striker. Quite who that will be I’m not sure, but with Erdinç being the only name that we know is the subject of concrete interest from us you’d have to think that he is our new main target.

What do you make of this?

  1. Not too bothered about N Taylor to be honest, he cant be any better than young Fergie at left back but this scrimping and scraping is getting on my nerves.
We dont seem to have any other plan than sell at top whack and bargain basement buy.

      (Quote)

  2. Well, So basically we are bidding for Erdinç… If that bid fails, we will hope a good affordable striker becomes available before the end of the transfer window…
If not we will buy nobody… Unless we sell first…

Then if we don’t get anyone. The money not spent will mysteriously disappear into other expenses. And we will have to sell to buy again.

Most likely Tiote, who will be sold for 20mil… And replaced with “expensive” freebies. In the next window. 😐

  3. Zog would have been nice but i suppose with Marveax, Jonas, Barton, Ferguson and Benny who can all play wide we arent crying out for the majority of the budget to be spent there, Neil taylor never made any sense to me after they admitted he wasnt a direct replacement for jose no couldnt give a **** on that.

The important thing are still replacing Jose if and when he fecks off (liverpool signing Cissoko will make things interesting BTW) and bringing in the second new striker we are crying out for, If come september we havent done that i will worry but not half way through july…

      (Quote)

  4. The other reason we havnt bought anyone is because Enrique hasn’t been shipped out as they were hoping.
Neil Taylor was going to be his replacement and it would have been another nice few million pocketed for Ashley.

we should of made sure we got nzogbia but nope ashley was scared to spend money , yes we have made good signings so far but it woulda been nice to have zoggy and a good striker in b4 america!! pardue and ashley get ya fecking finger out and stop bumming each other 😆

  9. Ashley just bends us over and tears us a new arsehole every transfer window… Then we So it up while supporting which ever players are on the pitch. And then the next window.. He rips us open again…

We could get Humpty Dumpty in as manager. It doesn’t matter. They are all just a mouth piece for Ashley.
I hate liars. And twisters of the truth…

Scum get money, they reinvest. Villa get (gauranteed they will reinvest) we get… And we buy freebies and get told no cash… I’m furious…
Take money back by all means…
But money raised from the squad should get pit back intonthe squad… End of…

  10. 😆 thank the lord maybe yous lot will shut up about him now could not beleive in the 1st place peeps would want the zog back

  11. “please dont say thats erding hes on about !!! hes made it clear he doesnt wna come !!”

It’s Erdinç alright… He half admitted that this week…

Army69, and the fact he doesn’t want to come suits Ashley down to the ground…
God forbid we placed a bid on a striker who DOES want to come.

Gameiro, Gervinho, Erdinç – three bids AFTER they made it clear they weren’t interested… (coincidence? I don’t think So)…

  12. You load of whining arses.

Didn’t want Zog; the guy is still a surley, egotistical **** who wanted huge wages. We’ve got that position covered, so he can **** off.

If Jose is staying and we have Fergie, that’s covered too, albeit only until Jose does go.

The striker thing is the only one that worries me, and as others have said, it’s not sounding convincing. But what is Pardew supposed to do, exactly? He has to find a player with the right profile, right skills and quality, right type of person to fit in, who’s interested in a move and wants to come to Newcastle, but won’t take the **** with wage demands.

You think any amount of money can magic that out of thin air?

      (Quote)

  13. If the 60K a week figures are accurate, not sure it would be a wise spend considering we already have jonas, marveaux, ferige and ben arfa who can all play on the wings. we are set in MF in my opinion. But I’ll take a striker now please

      (Quote)

  14. im getting sick of pardue now , ive never called him until now , he is literally talkin ***** , hes keep coming up with ” we are looking or the right characters for the club ” correct me if im wrong did we not bid for zoggy in jan?? does that not mean i was the right character?? so why the **** did we not go 4 him again??? ive made me mind up , i dont like pardue , NEXT MANAGER PLEASE………

    Whumpie,

Any quality striker who fits that age description, and is at the right age, is going to want high wages…
Which we won’t offer, unless he’s on a free transfer.

So we won’t get a quality striker in…

Liars all. We are being shafted again by that liar of an owner and his scumbag entourage.

    I am stotting.

Can anyone shed any light on which gutless members of the press attended this meeting? Has any one of them got a pair? Bloody cowards, why are they not asking the pertinent questions of our gobshite manager?

Perhaps Ms Brooks should be attending!!!

It’s not the fact we arnt getting Zog that pees me off…

It’s that he’s saying… The is only enough money for one striker of the right ilk…
So if we got Zog there’d be no money for a striker anyway? So where has the money gone?

Surely Nolans, Carrols and Campbells wages off the bill just about cover Ba, Marveaux and Cabaye…

I don’t get it… If we had the bid accepted for Zog in January. Would we have no money at all l left for a sriker now?

They are lying, and that’s why we get pissed off… It’s one lie after the next, one spin after the next…

      (Quote)

  20. All I see is AP and co trying not to just come out and say “we’ve missed two more targets; it’s been a bad few weeks”. It’s just spin, the norm.

I think we all agree what Ashley and Lamearse are like, and that we desperately need that striker. What I don’t hear among all the naive whinging is any suggestion as to what the club should do to get one.

Would you rather we just tried to get a player buy paying more than anyone else? If so, can you possibly, at a stretch, think of a precedent for that?

We have six weeks to go. We’re half way – HALF WAY – through the window. We’ve got good bodies in and only lost one; we’re after more. What the hell do you want Pards to say??

      (Quote)

  21. JJ: have you not considered where this ‘big pot of money’ came from?

The sale of one – ONE – striker.

So what makes you think we can buy six players with it, including one striker??

      (Quote)

  22. And before anyone mentions negativity…

I’ve been fairly positive until the past week with false belief… Now these bullshitters are lying to us and its clear what their intentions are again… They’ve destroyed my positivity.

I might be positive but I’m certainly not going to be ignorant and bullshitted.

  23. whumpie for a start we dont want pardue to lie to us!!! he trys to sweet talk us all!! enough for 1 more striker??? 😆 where the fecks 30million went??

      (Quote)

  24. JJ – actually, I do agree with you on 27. All this stuff about wages really is utter bull and kind of insulting that they don’t think we’ll notice. I see the need to include wages in calculations, but surely that’s ongoing stuff, in the same box as gate receipts?

      (Quote)

  25. ARMY69
depends on the price of the striker dint it.dont believe you lot throwing ya rattles out the pram cause we did not get the zog,a player i might as well mention caused team unrest last time he was here.

      (Quote)

  26. JJ – you didn’t. But why do people have such trouble with the idea that if you start with, say £40m from Carroll and Nolan. You spend a few mil each on the players we’ve brought in, and put a bit more towards the extra wages above the reductions we’ve had (Nolan, Campbell, etc.) to keep the books balanced. It’s not hard to end up with, say, £25m left.

Still a lot. Until you consider that we sold Carroll for £35m and Torres went for £50m. Plus wages that are twice what we can afford to pay.

I accept that there’s a lot of spin and bs flying about, but it’s hardly shocking or bedsheet-waving stuff is it?

So, I ask again: what do people want Pards and the club to do to get this striker in?

      (Quote)

  27. Cabaye came from the Nolan sale (same price and wages)

Ba’s wages can’t be much higher than Carroll’s and Kuqui’s (we’ll give him a ridiculous signing on fee of 5mil to appease you).

Marveaux can’t be on much higher wages than Campbell (we’ll give him a ridiculous signing on fee of 5mil)

So that leaves at least 25mil – enough for one striker???

    I hope he’s a bloody good striker!!!

Can you not see they are lying?

And yes I’d prefer it if they said this week:
“we’ve missed two more targets; it’s been a bad few weeks”.

The honesty would be refreshing and we’d know that we are out there looking…

      (Quote)

  28. look at the spine of our team 😯

    krul

    tiote

cant really say many other teams have a better spine than that 😎

  29. I see it this way: we’re seeing the last couple of windows where ‘big’ clubs throw unjustifiable money after players that won’t live up to their fees.

Some want to copy them. I don’t, and the club doesn’t. I want to be in a strong position once the wheels come off for everyone else. So yes, we can probably justify spending £40m, but only if the right players are available. If they’re not, you have two options: bend over and pass the KY to some ***** like Zog, or wait.

I say wait. We’ve got half a window left. Stop panicking.

  31. Batty – no. We’ve bought 4 and renewed a couple more. So you buy a striker and if there’s anything left over, that may cover number 6.

If you can’t see how we could spunk £25m on a striker by the time all the fees and backhanders are paid up, you’ve not been watching the transfer market recently.

However, with their current clubs, I’m sure we could entice them and pay good wages. Bit I just don’t see Ashley offering the 8-12mil it’d take to get them here…

      (Quote)

  40. Or bid a decent price… Not one 30% short of actual value when the market value is probably 30% inflated.

  45. Can’t believe i’ve seen comments saying Pardew out….People wonder why we get branded ‘fickle’. 🙄

I would have had Zog obviously but with Barton, Marveaux, Jonas and Ferguson do we really need him? Not for 9/10 million with massive wages, for Taylor I couldn’t really care less he was only going to be cover we can easily find another player (Clyne). Taylor will regret his choice when he’s a Championship player again this time next summer. It’s his loss not ours.

Villa need N’Zogbia more than we do, they’ve sold there best two players in one window. I doubt they will spend every single penny they got for Young and Downing on transfers.

      (Quote)

  46. As I said all along, Zog was pie in the sky. 🙄

Why come to the Toon when he would be on pay on performance wages. 🙄

My **** is still nowhere near Fenwicks window. 😛

  47. aye, probably enough to pay Kuqi’s wages, where’s bobby when you want to jump on the reality train.

  48. The most likely striker to come IMO will be Felipe Caicedo

He is in the last year of his contract, is young, had a good season in spain (and scored a couple of goals in copa 2011) and is looking to move clubs.
I think he is a similar player to Erdinc, but will come at a cheaper price!

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
