View from the away end- Arsenal.

Campbell: Former Mag, when at Arsenal.
It’s been a while since I published a view from the away end, but today I bring you the Arsenal edition. In this edition of the series I talk to Gunners fan Craig. I have known Craig for years, he used to live up the road and he’s another good lad.

Before I continue I would personally like to thank another blog for using my title of view from the away end for their own site. It’s always nice to know that people are original and can think of their own ideas. Good work lads! Rant over back to the thread :).

Arsenal were a team we took four points from last season. Wenger’s men got one over us with a 4-0 thumping at St James’ Park in the Carling Cup. However Newcastle got a win and a draw in the two league games played against the London club.

First an impressive 1-0 win at The Emirates followed by the memorable 4-4 cracker at St James’ Park. The game was especially memorable since we were 4-0 down at half time and looked down and out that afternoon. But Joey, Best and Tiote proved that day that a game is never over until the full time whistle is blown.

So I have asked Craig for his views on things, he’s a man of few words but was happy to take part and offer his opinions. Here’s what he had to say:

How do you rate our fans?

Great away fans one of the best in the country!

If you could have any one Newcastle player at Arsenal who would it be and why?

Steve Harper because any keeper is better than ours.

Who is favorite Newcastle player of all time and why?

Alan Shearer, by far one of the greatest of all time.

So the 4-4 draw last season was something special. Great game and one of the greatest ever comebacks. What are your reflections of that match?

I was shocked and disgusted that should never happen against any team.

Tiote’s goal?

Was a special strike, I doubt he will never do that again though.

How do you think Newcastle have done in transfer market so far, was selling Nolan a mistake?

Selling Nolan was a mistake but Newcastle havent done badly.

Arsenal pipped Newcastle to sign Gerviniho?

Yeah he looks decent, hopefully he can add some quality.

Arsenal fans can relate to the frustration of not being able to keep hold of key players. What are you views on a season potentially without Fabregas and Nasri?

He needs to pull his finger out and buy some high profile players and make Arsenal an attractive club again.

Jose Enrique and Barton are two players you have been linked with in recent weeks, what would you make of signing either of them?

Barton wouldn’t be bad but no offence we need better quality.

From an away fan’s point of view what do you make of St James’ Park?

St James is a great stadium shame the away fans are in the gods! I remember when we won 1-0 there Vieira scored but i couldnt tell who it was.

What do you make of our owner Mike Ashley?

Hes an arsehole!

Very blunt Craig, haha. Wenger and Pardew infamously had a bit of a touchline barney a couple of years ago. What do you make of Pardew being appointed Newcastle manager? is he the man for the job?

Hes a good manager I quite like him, he was good for West Ham.

What did you make of our first season back in the prem?

Not bad some shock results but that goes for every team last season. It was a weird season and the main thing for you lot was to stay up.

Silly question, but I have to ask everyone. Who will finish higher next season?

Score Predictions?

You never know anymore, we didnt beat you last season apart from league cup.

St James’- 1-1
Emirates- 2-0 Arsenal.

Finally….in these interviews I like to talk about a player who represented both clubs- so let’s talk about Sol Campbell? His move here didn’t really work out.

Sol Campbell is a legend for various reasons, leaving the scum to come for us for free coming back when we needed him, part of the invincibles a true legend. But a weird bloke I dont know what goes on in his head left us for pompey when he had a few years left with us!

There you go, the opinions of an Arsenal fan. Blunt and short responses but straight to the point. Craig is a knowledgeable guy and a decent footballer too, at least he was five years ago. Thanks to Craig for taking part, I know he’s a busy man.

I’m working on new interviews all the time, with Manchester United and Chelsea coming very soon. I am tempted to leave bringing you The Mackems edition until I have done everyone else’s. Save the best til last and all that.

So what did you make of Craig’s answers? I must stress I asked Craig these questions before the drama at Darlington last night. I think the events at Darlo will have us in a bad light for a little while. The actions of a section of the ‘fans’ last night was humiliating and gives people ammunition to have a pop at us.

  1. MARK on copying! only way to look at it is,people dont copy shite 😀
only way to look at now imo,but sad 🙁

  2. I cant wait to see Arsenals squad at the start of the season 😆 if they dont get some quality in and lose Cesc and Nasri they are going to be in big trouble. lets hope for an another undefeated season …. Against Arsenal in the league 😛

  3. Well done Marktoon…good interview and good write up mate.

I can see the wheels coming off the Arsenal carriage to be honest…Wenger has been rocking lately, and hasn’t won anything for a while. If Arsenal were to lose Nasri and Fabregas that would be disastrous, and would begin the exodus with RVP etc next in line. Gonna be a tough season for Arsenal, as they genuinely believe they can win things, and rightly so…but it doesn’t seem to be working out for them..

  4. Why he’d want Steve Harper, I have no idea. Szczesny is far superior. The defensive issues stem from the back four, not him. Jose Enrique is the one player who could improve Arsenal.

The media always like to portray every transfer window as a crisis at Arsenal, but selling a poor left back in Clichy and signing a good attacking player in Gervinho shouldn’t cause much concern. IF Nasri and Fabregas both go (doubtful) and Wenger signs no decent replacements (even more doubtful) there would be reason for severe doubts. It’s far too early to start making predictions about how the season is going to turn out, at this stage.

Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool are all capable of winning it, depending on their transfer activity in the next 5-6 weeks.

  5. Barton is the right type of player for Arsenal in that they need an aggressive ball winner, but ability wise, he’s not going to improve the team. He’s hardly going to displace Song, Wilshere, Fabregas or even Ramsey. Parker would be a better alternative, but you’d need to look abroad for someone top class.

  6. Another good and original article.

It is a shame the other blog ripped off your series.
Imitation is the best form of flattery … [email protected] 😉

I like this site more and more.
Quality rather than quantity and much less cutting & pasting from other articles.

    Good job.

  7. Arsenal are the best run and managed team in the EPL, they are forever being beaten with the ” You win nothing” stick but with the football they play, the fans get their moneys worth.
I dont think it would take a great deal to turn them into league winners and their fans appear to be decent enough compared to Spurs.

  8. JMZ yeah they might have a lot of class and talent but they dont have the balls to grap the game by the scruff of the neck, the thing I found with most classy players are they’re bottlers 😉 and the Arse seem to have a lot of them 😀

  9. Anybody remember the outcry when Diaby got himself sent off? It was all Barton’s fault of course. How dare he go for the ball 😯

Biggest bunch of moaners in the premier league imo. Where were they when they were shit? I’ve got lads I’ve known twenty years supporting them based purely on success. They never used to support them its cringeworthy 😕

  10. My friend kept saying we didn’t deserve to get it to 4-4 blamed it on the ref, goals shouldn’t have stood etc they moan too much

  11. Got a soft spot for Arsenal, but only because my godfather used to be a director in the 60’s and used to get me tickets for all sorts. England Argentina ’66 being the stand out.

  12. Ben Arfa has been confirmed as 10 I think. No official confirmation on Cabaye though, I’m just going by Twitter hearsay though. We’ll see if they’re the same at Leeds

  13. Been watching Beardsley’s bairns play the day.
Nothing much to say a really young side that need years to develop.
Sodeberg can be added to list of good keepers we have.
    Moyo needs conditioning
Airey and Innman need to get out of that level and play in the leccy league

  14. Leeds has potential to be a Stone Island friendly no doubt. Fortunately you boys have me – the head boy – there to wipe your arses for you. Old hat for me. IO legion 😉

  15. Jobey – You’d probably be very sad :lol

I need your mobile number anyway. We need to plan init 😉
