Peter Crouch? Since when?
It appears that Newcastle are 'cooling their interest' in lanky England striker, Peter Crouch.
What interest though?
The rumour mill has been strangely quite on this one with not even so much as a murmur about the possibility of the Tottenham hitman moving to the North-East, until now that is.
This is what makes me think that we have some rather excitable and maybe bored journalists on our hands. I mean considering the fact that if anyone farts on Twitter it's all over everywhere it seems funny that there hasn't even been a sniff of this previously. Anyway, let's look at it a bit more.....
Apparently Newcastle have been put off by the £9 million price tag attached to Crouch. Good job really as I'm put off by him as a player. Great lad, seems really funny, but for some reason I just don't rate him as a player.
Is he better than what we have? Yes, probably. Can he score goals? Well yes he can do, albeit not exactly at a prolific rate (apart, strangely, from England), yet for some reason I'm glad we've apparently missed out on him.
I think the biggest fear I have with someone like Crouch is that there would be a great big whopping tendency to resort to route one football. Not being a football snob, but I hate that. We resorted to it with Carroll at times but I just don't like it. It's something I've never liked to see at Newcastle in honesty.
Still it looks as though it won't be an issue for us now, and with movement expected within the next few days (either a yes or no) regarding Mevlüt Erdinç it looks as though we've moved on from looking at Crouch. I'm not saying Erdinç is the one, but he is the type of player that we need. Someone to work off and work around Demba Ba...
With good news in short supply it's time we heard something positive from the club. Let's turn those frowns upside down starting this evening against MLS title hopefuls Columbus Crew and hopefully build on that with a signing in the next few days before I head off to Leeds for a 'blog jolly on Sunday.
Dare to dream?
