Barton to stay despite cruel intentions from Ashley and Co.

It's business to them.
Well life is never dull for a Newcastle fan, with the news about Joey Barton being transfer listed and available for a fee of nothing being yet another fine example of that.

Whether you agree with Barton and his Twitter antics or not is secondary as it appears that the club have reacted angrily to his outbursts. All I know is that if I slagged off my employers to hundreds of thousands of people I wouldn’t have a job to go back to, and I guess that would be the case for many of us if you actually look at your contract.

However it’s a sledge hammer approach to something that just needed a small tap with tack hammer to sort out. What is wrong with sitting down and sorting things out these days? It just doesn’t happen and once again it’s the fans who are left to pick up the pieces.

I’m pretty sure that ALL of you will back me up when I say this, but in the unlikely event of any players actually reading this please bear in mind that we – the fans – are completely and utterly still behind you and will support you as we always do.

We need to stick together and we need to support them as they are getting crapped on by above just like us. I would imagine that Alan Pardew has been crapped on in much the same way. they’ve done it to Shearer, Keegan, Hughton so why wouldn’t they do it the current incumbent?

It’s a mighty clash of ego’s that has caused it with nobody willing to back down. I note that Joey Barton has insisted that he is staying at Newcastle and has talked about the pride and honour of wearing the black and white on Twitter. If that is to be the case I hope he remains professional and doesn’t casuse any bother.

Quite what the wisdom of letting the Player of the Season from last season go on a free transfer is has been lost on me. Yes I would have preferred Barton to keep his comments in house, but at the end if the day surely a twitter ban would have done just that?

I just can’t help but think that Ashley and Llambias have been itching to get Barton out of Newcastle for some time now, and I think it stems back to the time when they were about to sack him only for Kevin Keegan to step in and save him. Ever since then I think they’ve wanted his sizeable wages off the book, which is strange considering that Barton has just about started repaying some of the faith shown in him by the club.

It smacks of an egotistical move by the board. Why else effectively give him away? Especially considering we have an owner who watches every single penny! Great business…

I’m really disappointed and disillusioned with this. Once again we are reduced to a laughing stock by this ownership and his **** of a Poodle, Delboy. My only hope is that this doesn’t evolve into an all-out revolt by the players who will be feeling much the same as I am I’d imagine – disillusioned.

What a summer eh?

  1. He is in the same situation as Smith available to leave for nowt but still actually at the club.

Whether that remains in anyones guess, Im sure there will be interest but will there be interest on Joeys part because id be amazed if anyone matched the wages he gets here…

  2. No doubt we’ll hear the club’s side of the story in the next few days. I remember someone said on here a dozen or so posts back that player power at a club never ends well, and we’re seeing the stamping out of said power this summer.

Barton may be a good player, but it’s very telling that no club has come in for him when he’s clearly been available for transfer all summer long. He may have said that he’s not interested in a move away but he did the exact same thing while at Man City those years back… and promptly got transferred to Newcastle not long after.

Barton staying at the club will only harm the morale in the club. A strong message needs to be put out that the club will not tolerate this kind of behaviour, especially for the good of all our new signings.

    Double standards. 🙁

  4. What rings true with me is like you said: Why are we in effect allowing one of our best players to leave for FREE? Especially since the board has made it clear that they are ALL about the money. If you want him gone put him up for transfer and slap a price tag on him. There are teams that would pay a good deal for Joey’s services. It is completely hypocritical and childish.

  5. mike ashley just really doesnt care what all newcastle fans want!! he knows we all love joey but he just doesnt care lads , all this fat little man is wanting to do is get the cash back in his pocket ” that we owe hiim” then he will be off!! the sooner the better for him in my opinion bcos hes starting to upset alot of folk now!! carroll , nolan , barton , enrique? thats 4 players that were our best players last season !! im worried about the club and just hope we pull through stuff like this !! lets hope we stay up this season lads SHAME ON YOU ASHLEY

  6. Thad how has he been available for transfer ?? do you know something that we dont . On the last thread you went on about Joey being banned for 3 games for tapping Pederson as if it was a real crime but then you stated how good Tiote was who has been banned how many times ?? and I have to admit that some of his tackles were imo real dangerous.
I think this is more to do with a problem you have with Joey rather than the damage that is being caused to the clu.
Because if its the damage to the club that concerns you try blaming the ones that are running the club while Lying to the players and fans.

  7. Appreciate this may appear to be a little bit of a sledgehammer approach, but seriously, if i hinted at my company and owners along the lines that JB did, i would be oot on my ear without a second thought. People like MA do not expect to have to tell their employees that they are not allowed to go on TWITTER and make comments like that – these are not kids – these are grown adults being paid a fortune. It is totally unprofessional and i am quite supprised as it was from his comments on TWITTER that you can see that JB is a smart guy and actually very likeable ..

  8. Another PR coupe for Ashley and Co. Eventually Mr Ashley you will run out of people around you to blame or sack and the buck will stop with yourself. You are out of your dept, get out of our club now and go back to selling discount runners. Let us try and salvage the pieces of this once great football club.

  9. To be fair to the regime, which I despise, I don’t think they have a choice. He had to be listed and the quickest way to get shot of him was to give him away.
They will save on his £65k wages and resolve any animosity in the dressing room.

We are a weaker squad without him tho.

That’s Barton, Carroll, Nolan and likely Jose gone from last season yet there will be dreamers on here who still think we are stronger. 🙁 🙄

      (Quote)

  10. Aye, no surprise to me that they want shot of him, been clear for ages, but trying to let him go for free? Cringeworthy.

  11. The Pardew / Ashley / Llambias regime is going nowhere, unfortunately. Joey Barton, unlike Alan Smith can still play and will have interest from a number of clubs, including ones at the top of the league. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him setting up Andy Carroll again.
It’s a shame that as fans we get attached to these players and then have them dumped out of the club when they say the wrong thing. Mike Ashley is a dictator who is used to pushing around low-paid employees of Sports Direct. He has no handle on how to deal with today’s highly-paid, highly adored players.
It’s definitely time for AP, MA and DL to move on.

  12. Seems to be that they have wanted Joey out since end of last season, the club have contacted other clubs regarding taking him on, but nobody willing to pay 4m plus his wage demands.. seems willing to take a wage reduction for the toon but not for someone else, may be what was putting other clubs off, never mid Joey saying he didnt want to leave and not budging from the stance that he would see out his contract

This obviously didnt sit well with the men upstairs, but once he didnt cause trouble I think were begrudingly willing to see out the year.. no doubt his comments post Leeds match on Twitter were the straw that broke the camels back.. Joeys agent saying he was contacted last night by Llambias with the news they would let him go for free

Seems a strange move, as you said rather than an across the board twitter and media ban for players, but if they want rid immediately they have two choices.. either transfer list him and get rid of him for free.. or terminate his contract, which would have cost them just over 3m

Personally think it was inevitable something like this would happen with Joey, they have wanted him out for a good minute.. and you simply cant slag off your owners publicly and expect no consequences, imagine if one of SAFs players done something like that, he would lose his nut at them, but this was a bit of a knee **** angry reaction I think, and could prove a big mistake

  16. I’m going to side with newcastle on this one. Barton thought he was bigger than the club. If he really had the club at heart, he should’ve discussed things with the board, if it didn’t work out, he should’ve asked to be transfer listed or waited through his contract (just like what was supposed to happen).
Instead, he opens his big mouth and a can of worms and now the club is being dragged through a sea of **** because of this genius. He got what he wanted and managed to f*ck the club right over at the same time.

Yes, there are terrible problems with the board, there needs to be better direction, better money-management, better player acquisition. Everyone knows that. Barton asked for this, got it, he’s going to f*ck off to some other club and say nice things about them while getting a fat pay-off for being a free transfer. Who goes through the **** and the ridicule? We do. As always.

So, F*CK YOU, BARTON, F*CK YOU, ASHLEY AND LLAMBIAS. F*CK YOU ALL FOR F*CKING UP THE CLUB I LOVE. I HOPE YOU F*CKING ROT IN HELL.

As for slagging of his (owners) employers what exactly did he say about them to make them with draw the contract in the 1st place ? do you know

      (Quote)

  18. By the way, this is not likely to resolve animosity in the dressing room. The best they can hope for is that this move shoves a gag in the mouths of the disaffected players. But any good player with a brain will be thinking “how do I get out of here?”

Pardew, by all accounts, really sold the club to Cabaye, Marveaux and Ba and has been great to Benny. Pardew’s a good talker.

But he does not seem to be calling the shots and the players must know this.

So how much will they trust him going forward?

Pardew is just the lap dog. I don’t agree with the Twitter approach but the spirit in the dressing room must be in a shambles. A first team leader needs to step forward now. Being at war with your own players won’t work Ashley. Spend some real money on a classy striker but then treat the players with respect if you expect some in return. I imagine Barton is a handfull to deal with but Jose has been complaining about lies from the management also about his contract. These people never learn. I guess if it is ok to lie in court then it is ok to lie to the press and the suppporters and the players as well.

I disagree. Sure it would be nice to stick to Ashley but what about the club? More disaray is not what is needed at the moment. Pardew needs to suck it up and rally the troops. No sense further risking relegation by trying to prove a point.

  36. @Big Dave… Sorry mate should have worded that better, speculating but based on the obvious imo.. if a player has one year left on his contract that they would rather get a few million for than let him go for free ideally (obviously this is based on before the weekends events) and other clubs are not allowed to contact his agent unless given permission to do so by Newcastle first, combined with what seems blatantly obvious at this stage, that Pardews managerial responsibilities do not include things of this nature, and finally the owners themselves want rid, it stands to reason that as well as clubs contacting them they would also contact clubs…

As far as why the contract was withdrawn?.. they wanted to offer a two year deal, Joey wanted four.. as said by Willie McKay last time he was on Talksport there was ongoing discussions in January which werent going anywhere fast but all parties concerned agreed to deal with the matter again at the end of the season.. when they sat down at this time, the contract offer had be withdrawn… no doubt this was poor form on the clubs part, reasons for it? maybe Joeys erratic outbursts from time to time, maybe just reconsidered giving him a contract at all and decided it was best for him to see out the existing one? who knows..

Hopefull the board will have learned from that harsh lesson but I have no evidence to suggest they have merely hope ( which i must shamefully admit is fading 😳 )

  39. Why isn’t Llambias being let go for showing disrespect to the club and the city by running across the pitch naked? Is it ok to show disrespect as long as the owner is there cheering him on? So what kind of disrespect is and isn’t acceptable Ashley? Is lying in court acceptable? I consider that an insult to Keegan and Newcastle. But that is acceptable I guess because you are the owner. Why don’t you go back to the casino and lose some more money Ashley? We don’t want you in Newcastle. Is that clear enough yet? And take your pet monkey Llambias with you.

  40. I knew everyone would back Barton. Well my blinkers are firmly off. Im sorry but the guy is an utter disgrace. He has been paid by our club (very well I might add) whilst spending time IN JAIL!!, he has punched people on and off the field of play. He is doing this to help himself because he is totally SELF CENTRED and interested in himself. He does not give a monkeys about what damage he is doing to the club and his team mates. He will go the same way as Nolan and Carroll and look after number one. Are you lot totally clueless or just blinded by a incandescent hatred towards the board so much so that you can’t see what is really going on.

      (Quote)

  43. Interesting thatall of the players bad mouthing the board/club are all the ones with an axe to grind. Barton`s bluff has been well and truly called.
    1) Carrol was sold because he had just signed a 5 year deal until L`pool offered him £80k a week and the club £35mill of stupid money for a player in his 1st prem season and12 goals. The club could not match his offer as there would have been a queue of players at Ash/Del/Pards door—- no other solution except Carrol could have said no to L`pool, he didn`t and the club could not force him to leave.
    2) Enter Barton/Enrique in Jan, offered new deals but not what they wanted so refused to sign but excuse was when we are safe. BORROX, club re-offered before end of the season with these 2xjokers giving it large on twitter that club lacked ambition. Meanwhile Nolan wants a 5xyear deal at 28 years old on £55k per week, club offered a sensible 3xyears + incentives depending on success, not good enough so he drops a division and bad mouths the club, now thats mercenary no thought for anyone but himself.
    3) The club know Gos/ Benny coming back. Sign Marv/Cabaye/Abeid. Tiote/Jonas/Guthrie still here. Vukic/Fergie nearly ready–That`s 10 midfielders— Barton/Nolan knew this and maybe the competion now is too fierce from younger players, that have oodles of quality and potential and who cost less in wages and are out to make a name for themselves.
    4) Barton/Enrique have to go for the sake of harmony amongst the players that want to stay– the club are right imo.
5)The other 2xsounding off, Ranger is too immature and not good enough and Routs is not Prem class (QPR wouldn`t pay £2 mill, says everything.
In any company no person is bigger than—-don`t feel sorry for Barton, half a decent season is all we got– doubt he would have got much playing time anyway and his ego would not accept that.
I see no crisis here, yes a new striker/centreback/leftback would be nice but I like the board`s way of doing things, if ASH was just about money he would not let Barton go for free– this is a statement to the other players, don`t rock the boat. I like that.

      (Quote)

  44. I don’t think anyone on here thinks Barton is a great person DJG. He is anything but. However the owner has now weakened the team just before the season by allowing him to leave for free. He refuses to spend a reasonable amount of money while taking in a huge amount in transfer fees in the last 3 seasons. He lies in court. He hires a chimp to be the managing director. He deliberately misleads the supporters. In other words he lacks all class. Go back to selling cheap kit Ashley, it’s what you are good at. Maybe Llambias can run around naked in the shop for entertainment.

      (Quote)

  45. BSN9 – I openly admit that I am one of your dreamers, or whatever you want to call me. Sure I had hope in my heart that with cash in the bank, the club would show some improvement on last season. I never expected mega buck buys etc, just a little improvement year on year. I never thought we were ready for europe nor would we be next season, but I did think we would improve a tad. This does NOT in anyway make me an ashley lover. The two are not intrinsically linked.
Clearly I was wrong in my optimism and you were right with your doom and gloom predictions. You must be so proud of yourself and clearly lapping up all the attention you so obviously crave.
Personally I think you are a very sad man and cant for the life of me see what you are trying to achieve. I cant remember one solitary positive comment from you.
You wouldn’t even have been happy if we had paid 20Mill for the players we have brought in.
You are very clever at slagging other people off for having hopes and dreams, but what about you? Have you ever offered an opinion on what you would like to see happen at the club? Errr No.
    Total **** piece imho.

  48. Thanks Mike Ashley. I’m feeling better already. How is Derek Llambias taking the news? Since he is such a brilliant managing director I’m sure the new owner will want to keep him on. He can parade his plums about the ground for entertainment.

  49. At the end of the day Barton has engineered this by speaking out about his employers ( very often ) on twitter. Who the hell can expect to do that and get away with it!! He wants out we now and knows we have a strong midfield. It’s defence I’m worried about, our fullback positions are a joke and Willo/ S Taylor are extremely unpredictable. We need to strengthen the defence urgently IMO, even more inportantly than another striker (presuming our strikeforce stay fit).

  50. We are weaker, and there are more sales to be made yet. Good job the manager is happy to have his squad decimated. Just think of the wages saved on Carroll, Nolan, Routledge, Barton, Campbell, Kuqi, Tozer. More to be saved when Enrique, Tiote, Xisco, Smith and Perch go.
Squad of 25 looks hard to imagine.
Pardew shouldn’t worry too much about his popularity – look what happened to Keegan, Shearer, Hughton, Nolan and Barton.

      (Quote)

  51. Mike Ashley surely you remember the bet you had with Derek which Derek lost and then had to run across the pitch naked. Oh is that too embarrassing for you to remember now? What a shame. How about the lies in court. Are they too embarrassing? How about not even having the plums to phone Shearer and tell him he was no longer in line to become permanent manager? That memory gone too? What a surprise. Whoever you are Mike Ashley this is great fun. Please continue.

They are not yes men in the way Ameobi, Smith etc are, but its what they do on the pitch that matters, we will suffer this season and if giving Ameobi the captains armband on Saturday is a sign of things to come then we are well and truly fecked!

  54. So DJG everyone that backs Barton is Clueless ??
Do you really believe that I think Joey thinks more about US than he does about his own ? I have worked for some decent people but I will always put my own first, and its obvious to most that Joey will put him and his own 1st before the Club or anyone else.
You would need to be clueless to think that any player will put the club before himself and his own, so who are these people that think he puts the club 1st ❓

      (Quote)

  55. Stardust – Its not just in training though. As I said multiple times, Cabaye far surpassed anything I’ve ever seen from Barton. Yes it was one game against Leeds but I got vilified for suggesting such a thing and accused of turning on Barton in the process.

However I still think its a bad move getting shot of Barton so soon. Whether technically inferior or not, players like Nolan and Barton would have been great to keep around and onside a) to give us reliable options and b) to help the new lads bed in.

Now there is a huge shitstorm, an unhappy dressing room with players not on side. Too many changes too soon and its a huge gamble in my opinion.

  56. Sorry to dissapoint Geordietwo but Derek will be coming with me , and Derek will take the news how I tell Derek to take the news. Now your going to have to excuse me Im needed in hell for a meeting with Satan, Mother Thersea is stepping out of line again

  57. Thats it for me with Ashley now, the man is clueless. If I didn’t laugh I would cry.

It’s season after season we have **** like this going on without fail, he has this so called 5 year plan to get into europe or something…Selling our best players one by one isnt going to help. Won’t be long before Tiote is out the door. Barton is by far one of the best players at the club I don’t understand why we couldn’t have just given him the deal he wanted…Ah I forgot he’s nearly 30 so it’s impossible. 🙄

Its just a matter of time before he does something else that causes mayhem and makes no sense, people go on and on about Ashley out – he tried to sell us before and couldn’t, we’re gunna be stuck with him for years to come…He has no interest in keeping the fans happy so why would he want to spend money on players, he’ll do it as cheap as possible then sack the manager not realising its because he wont invest in the squad.

It’s going to be the same cycle over and over again, our best players will continue to leave and we’ll still continue to buy free transfers and cheap young players who we can make a profit on.

I’ve tried to be postive with Ashley and the way he runs the club but I seriously can’t take this any more.
