Joey Barton transfer listed by Newcastle.

Farewell Joey. Best of luck. All the best!
Joey Barton has been transfer listed by Newcastle United in a move that is going to send shockwaves through the fanbase.

Quite how the management of our club have come to the conclusion that getting rid of last seasons Player of the Season is a good idea is beyond me although it does appear that relations between the player and the board have become untenable. However, making him available for free is great business. Not!

I understand that contract discussions had ceased and that Joey Barton was probably sailing close to the wind with his Twitter comments, but I also think it’s utterly the wrong thing for the club to do. Mind you, let’s be honest, the two dipshits upstairs have wanted rid of Barton for ages now and it would appear that they have finally got their wish.

I’m utterly pissed off with this move although I have said that you can’t go around slagging off your employer in public without any comeback. All the same I believe it’s a sledgehammer approach to a problem that could have been sorted out.

Best of luck Joey and thanks for last season. As for the two tossers in power at our club: GET OUT!

More to follow….

  1. Not sure why people are suprised by this. I think most people thought he would be gone once he didn’t get the new contract. To me, the only surpise was that he was still around.

Are these your actual thoughts? You’ve always been quite balanced.

Whats just gonna say what the odds on Pardew walking?

    Where have you heard this?

  4. Look lets face some real hard facts here – we know we’re in the hands of a complete despot, a bit like maybe Gadaffi or Assad but how can we be surprised anymore? Every decision this club make is a disaster.

This pre season has been like the last few under Ashley – players leaving for decent money and nothing being spent on replacements.

It’s been clear to me for a while that Ashley is slowly and surely taking his money back – the only way he can do that is by selling our best players and using that money to pay for the day to day running of the club while taking his cash back from the TV money etc…

I think we’re the only club owned by an wealthy individual in the history of football where an owner has lent the club money and is taking it back to the detriment of the team.

Anyone who thinks Ashley has ambitions higher than just staying in the PL at zero outlay are clearly deluded!

  5. Love him as a player but a club must have discipline otherwise things get out of control. Doesn’t he have Willie Mckay as an agent. Enough said.

Wouldn’t suprise me in the slightest. Soon to be followed by half the club handing in transfer requests. 🙁

“Are these your actual thoughts? You’ve always been quite balanced.”

I’ve always tolerated them but this has boiled my ****. On the evidence that we haven’t even replaced the last players we got rid of fully yet I don’t envisage us replacing Barton. In that sense I feel they are neglecting the football side of things and it’s hard to remain balance when essentially they are ignoring the very thing that I, and many others, are interested in.

Maybe I was reactionary but I stand by it.

  9. Think we should run a book on how long it takes Pardew to come out with the statement “When the supporters see the players we’re going to bring in they will see that losing Barton isn’t such a bad thing”? You know a bit like KK had to say when Milner left.

The biggest dissapointment to me now is Pardew – I’m beginning to think he’s just a puppet! Never I hear you say… 😛

  10. Bye bye joey. Can’t say it wasn’t coming after the twittering. Daft but needed doing to stop the players going on like this. We need some harmony

  11. how have we got to this point.
should the twittering not have been banned long ago.
there was some logic in all the decisions from upstairs other than the emotionally driven decision to appoint Keegan the second time, which i did criticise at the time. but this one defys belief!
he should be our captain! now we realy are into teh unkown the french boys had better come off .as we now have no fall back or plan B.

    shaking my head at this!

  12. Doubt Pards will walk, he’s happy enough being a yes man for now as he knows he’ll never get the chance to manage a ‘big’ club again – saying that; the way we’re going we’ll be in 1st division at this rate
Whole thing is a total shambles, everyone down here in London are p!55ing themselves at the mess – though most have sympathise and thank thier stars that teh fat coooont aint running thier clubs

  14. Toonsy @ 87 – I agree completely. How many ‘steps too far’ can a club make before something is actually done.

I have no idea what can be done, if anything, but something should be done to try and get the club sold.

  17. nolan was right so was enrique and joe too, the man at the helm has no morals or ambition he will let these players go, but replace them with nothing yet again, its been going on well lets say we all know why king kev left, he wasnt working to bring in a player to replace milner and gave kev no option , who can work with this pathetic man? oh yea pardwho!! ashley ooot!!!

  18. Even if twitter was banned for players, Joey would’ve found another way to voice his opinion. People are slating him for this. I commend him, he’s a real man standing by his principles and I for one think he genuinely wants to tell us what’s happening – he is trying to do right by us, by the only way he knows how.

      (Quote)

  19. Are you serious? We’re siding with Barton on this one? Am I the only one who sees that the only reason he got onto Twitter in the first place was to stir the pot and cause trouble for the club?

This is a guy who has assaulted kids multiple times in his career, spent a lengthy period in JAIL and all the while the club stuck by him and paid him massive wages for years. They could have torn up his contract when he was convicted!

He puts in one good season in the Premier League, and we’re on our knees worshiping him? Player of the season? If I’m not wrong Bassong got the vote a couple of seasons ago and he’s rotting in the reserves at Spurs. This isn’t about Fat Ashley or the board or the manager anymore. In what world does a player slag off the club/management and not get sacked? Players like David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Jaap Stam have been kicked out on their bums for less. Who is Barton, seriously?

  21. Our club has been a joke for so long now, I have had texts from people taking the **** but these days its in a pitying way! Ashley needs to get out, this simply cannot be justified through money and balancing the books. Its a power thing he wants to run the cluib like bloody Ryan Air. Cheap as possible, smallest margins, as long as the product is JUST good enough, and there is NO dissent. Im used to being laughed at-this is too much.

leave Ashley, i have no idea why you even own us, what do you want?

    LEAVE

  22. He’s certainly consistent, sacked from Man City and basically told to get out by NUFC. 3rd time lucky i guess for Barton

  23. ashley doesnt and never has like being exposed 4 exactly what he is, seem the players have had enough of his short sightedness as we fans have for a long time now, players and fans are together on this one!

  24. Well, the clubs are just queuing up for Barton aren’t they? What with him being the GREAT player that he is…

    …oh wait. There’s no one.

      (Quote)

  25. Thad – But what about Enrique? Why has the same fate not befallen him?

End of the day this about Ashley/Llambias/Barton never getting on probably going right back to the time when Ashley wanted rid but Keegan wanted to keep him. A clash of ego’s maybe but I’d be willing to bet Barton’s wage and age had a deciding factor on things.

  27. @105. I think there is plenty of blame to go around on this one. He even got suspended by Newcastle after his dust up with Shearer. We are now the second club who is getting rid for detrimental conduct.

Still, it is inexcusable that the club didn’t mend fences early in the summer with him. He is our best player and a leader in the dressing room.

Barton will easily find a club, did you want press conferences arranged, minutes after the announcement, by clubs to say how much they want him? Most serious clubs dont do that….although if ‘Arry wants him we’ll know!

  40. On the field he’s a good footballer, but I didn’t want him to put on the black and white shirt in 2007, and I have cringed every time he has pulled on the shirt since.

I didn’t want him here in the 1st place because of who he is.

Viciously assaulting Dabo his Man City teammate

Assaulting a kid in Liverpool and caught on CCTV

    Time in jail

    Thinks he’s England material …. On Barton’s planet …

Speaks out whenever someone winds him up … twitter should be only used by those with the intelligence to use it. Unfortunately, whilst he thinks he’s Einstein’s grandson he’s actually a complete tool.

He’s dragged the club through **** and basically said the new players are relegation material … great team building …

Come on folks did we really want him in the first place … I didn’t.

It’s taken balls to get rid and offering a free transfer in order to do it.

    Glad to see him go.

Enrique is an asset. If he were available on a free transfer, or even the 4m that was quoted for JB at the start of the window he would be long gone to some CL chasing club. He’s been quiet throughout the summer too.

Barton is a liability. Nobody wants him (in the PL it seems) and he’s been stirring the pot on Twitter all summer. Yesterday was the last straw and if he’s half as intelligent as he makes himself out to be he should have seen it coming. All the “I love the Toon but hate the board” nonsense that he’s been spouting is rubbish. What did he think he was going to achieve by tweeting what he did? The board would graciously step down, or offer him a new 5 year contract on the same wages he’s on?

Clearly all that he’s achieved all summer since starting his Twitter account is damage the club. You may say that it’s all been aimed at the board, the board is incompetent and rah rah rah but is that really true or is that just a convenient excuse for his own personal demons coming to the fore? If he were a true professional (like Smith, Harper and Shola who have conducted themselves with immense class) he would keep his mouth shut and carry on with his last year like he keeps saying. You’d think that ol Smudger would have plenty more to gripe about, but he’s a good example of exactly what Barton should have been doing if he really loved the club.
