A club statement on Joey Barton.

No comment on anything.
Newcastle have finally released a statement on the future of Joey Barton, and the general content of the statement is that the club will be making no comment on the future of Joey.

It’s taken a few days for the club to add to the rather ridiculous and vague four line statement released on Monday detailing that the player had been transfer listed and had an asking price of £0 following on from a series of outbursts on the micro-blogging network ‘Twitter’, however in this statement there are signs of an agreement between the club and the player.

The club statement said:

“We understand the level of interest in the clubs decision to offer Joey Barton a free transfer.”

“However it would not be dignified nor would it serve any useful purpose for at this present time for either the club or Joey to air their private issues on this matter in public.”

The club and the player have important business to focus on over the next few days and both parties have come to an agreement that we will not comment further at this time.”

Make of that what you will but it seems as though there has at least been some dialogue between the two camps, although obviously the result of that dialogue is quite clearly going to remain private until further notice.

Barton has been training with the reserves today and remains frozen out of the first team at Newcastle although whether this statement represents a thaw in the approach from either side or whether it’s a clue that a transfer is not a million miles away from happening remains to be seen. We certainly won’t be hearing about anything on

Personally I feel it’s the latter but hope it’s the former. The only problem with my hope is that both parties are not known to back down which is why I have some doubts about a ceasefire resulting in Joey staying on Tyneside.

There is interest in the player so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens from here.

Does anybody have Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s number?

  2. David Craig just said on SSN that a clutch of prem teams have put 5 yr deals on the table for Barton with 60k a week. ALSO Hamburg, Lyon and Fiorentina have asked to be kept updated…

  3. Frankly, I have come to the opinion that with this new squad we are better off without Joey. Maybe he’ll calm down now if there is the possibility to remain at NUFC, but what about the next time he explodes in the dressing room because Cabaye is the player taking the free-kicks etc. etc.? The rest of the team don’t need this kind of “my way or the high way” approach from someone who clearly carries a great deal of angst. They need to gel on their own, and the dynamics of Hughton, Nolan, Smith, Barton etc. are clearly over. It’s a new day. Let’s welcome it and move on.

I have it on very good authority that the club are actually going to discuss a new contract with Joey Barton.

At least it has finally been announced that conflicts will be kept in-house. Let’s see how Joey holds up to that

  11. The Newcastle boss said: “I think it’s a situation that I didn’t envisage we would be in. Obviously Joey is a great player and you want great players in your team.

“But I think it is also very, very important at any football club and any organisation, especially one as big as ours, that you are pulling in the same direction, everybody.

“We find ourselves at this moment in time that Joey is not pulling with us. That doesn’t mean to say that can’t change very quickly.

“I think this whole process, for me, has been a time to stand in the background, let everybody reflect a little bit.

“Of course today is the press conference for the game (a pre-season friendly against Fioretina on Saturday), so I’m obliged to say, but I’m still really reflecting, as Joey is, how to best resolve this and I think I have never closed the door on any one individual and I won’t close the door on Joey.”

“The problem with Twitter, I think this is a bigger problem, generally, for football, is that we really need to get hold of this.”

“Maybe if it wasn’t for Twitter and this instant media that we have, this might have got resolved on the Monday morning with me and Joey just in my office. I think that probably would have happened.

“The problem with Twitter, I think this is a bigger problem, generally, for football, is that we really need to get hold of this.

“There is nothing coming down from above within the game to tell us how to deal with this from the Premier League

“I spoke to Sir Alex this morning, because they’ve had a problem with Twitter as well. We’ve gone on a similar line to Man United. You cannot criticise from within on your personal account, in fact you shouldn’t mention the football club full stop in my opinion.

“Criticism of a player, a manager, of the club in any shape or form – it is a personal site for your feelings about your life.”

“What happened in terms of the game last Saturday, which was reported, I’m not going to comment on because what happens in my changing room will stay in my changing room. That happened when we came back from 4-0 down against Arsenal etc. etc.

“What goes on there, stays in there and that is amongst myself, my staff and my team-mates.”

I lived in Swindon for a number of years and Brunel is heavily associated with the Town due to him designing the railway infrastructures.
There’s also a club named after him called the Brunel rooms which has a revolving bar, caused me to become very disorientated many a time whilst intoxicated in that place

  25. Finally a bit of common sense, meaning:

    1) Decide to behave more like adults (dare I say professionals?) not children on both sides

    2) Toys being back in the respective prams, sort it out by discussing things face to face and not through the rabid media circus

Personally, I think Pardew deserves credit here. It takes balls to say ‘the door is still open’ when you risk it being firmly and publicly slammed in your face again. He knows, as we do, that Barton – if he puts his energy into what he does on the pitch and not off/around it – is an important asset to the club.

Equally, Ashley/Lamearse continue to earn our distaste (or worse) for not having the balls to speak in public themselves.

Really, is it that difficult to call a press conference and explain yourself, instead of leaving us in an information vacuum where we (and the media) have to try and work out what’s going on…?

Surprise, surprise that all sorts of c++p is said and written to satisfy the fans desire to find out some, any kind of real news about what’s going on, what the club’s plans are etc.

    I despair 😯

  27. Pardew did come across very well but he`s in an untenable position with Ashley wanting Barton out and Barton continuing to tweet.
With reference to Barnetta once again it seems that Pardew has identified him as a prospective buy, but then Ashley offers ridiculous terms and the agent says their is no chance his client will sign for Newcastle what chance has Pardew got?
What chance have we got of attracting new players to the club when this circus is going on?
