Some good news for a change!

Marveaux back in action.
With good news in pretty short supply I thought I’d try and give everyone something positive to think about.

Now it’s nothing major and it’s certainly not about any new signings, nor the departure of players like Alan Smith or Ryan Taylor so don’t get too moist. However there is a bit of good news on the injury front with regard to Shane Ferguson and Sylvain Marveaux.

Ferguson played in a behind closed doors reserve match as he step up his comeback from the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season. He came through unscathed and has been in full traning for just over a week now so I expect that we’ll see him in and around the first team squad sometime soon.

The cynical side of me is wondering if this is why NUFC are dicking about with the Erik Pieters deal???

Another boost is the fact that Sylvain Marveaux played in that game, and did very well by all accounts by scoring one goal and setting up another two. The French summer signing has been struggling for match fitness after spending so long on the sidelines last season, which was compounded when he took a knock during the match against Kansas City meaning that he has been left out ever since as he searches for a level of fitness that will aloow him to feature in the first team.

Will it be enough for him to be included in the squad for the match against the unwashed at the weekend? Maybe. Maybe not. I mean midfield is one position where we are the fine and we have Gabriel Obertan who will be looking for a start after impressing in his debut at the weekend.

So there you go – good news. It’s probably not the good news you all wanted but thank heavens for small mercies eh?

Now, where is that kick in the bollocks that usually accompanies good news?

Not against my reality crew. We all wear the same uniform.

Is the white linen suit, white collarless t-shirt, trilby, tan esperdrils & no socks uniform?

I’m dying for you here fella. 😳

Have you ever been right about anything? 😛

Bobby told me on his death bed, he said, “Troy, I’ve never been wrong and tell that Beardsleys Boobs to find the nearest mirror”

You’ve got to love old bobby for his wise predictions.

No that’s just for the beach.

My god I looked good today. Standing on the beach in my White linen suit, White straw trilby and White plimsoles.

The great thing was, I paraded up and down the beach all day reeling off poems by Keats in a Brian Blessard voice.

The French now have an understanding of the British now.

    Ooooh yes 😯

  7. Apparently we’re trying to sign Robbie Elliot! 😯

Maybe stick him at left back against the mackems. Can’t be worse than Raylor, eh Toonsy?

  8. @DJG You should come along, I can’t watch the Mackems game so I’m just gonna listen to it on the radio on the way there 😉

@Toonchicken We’ve signed Charlton Athletic’s keeper Rob Elliot

  9. Why have we bought another ‘keeper? We’ve just loaned one out and now we want a ‘keeper from Charlton in before the game at the weekend.

  10. TheDimpleboy @ 170 never worry about TC he doesn’t know whats happening today, I think it’s getting trailed outta the water all days has fried his brain 😆

  11. Good news is welcome but let’s not get too carried away. Apparently the behind closed doors friendly this afternoon in which excelled was against Gateshead Reserves.

  12. Dave @180. Been on most of the day. I’ve had a bit of time on my hands, so thought I’d post on here. I read the blog most days but never really have time to post. I might keep coming back just so Derek can keep an eye on you lot. 🙂

  13. So we have signed a Charlton Athletic goalkeeper? I guess they don’t expect Forster to return from Celtic then.

Still don’t see any need at all for a keeper. Krul and Harper are fine for first team and by the time Harper retires, Soderberg is ready to fill the bench role.

    Why sign another?

  14. Why is Troy, Back at the villa and sitting in the wheelie bin in ice cold water still wearing his White linen suit and straw trilby.
You may wonder all you want but Troyster has difficulty sleeping in the heat.

The locals haven’t seen the likes man! The wheelie bin is on the main street and Troy is now spouting poetry in French whilst the gendarmerie are issuing a ticket for parking a wheelie bin on a public highway.

My god these French bizzies have a lot to learn about the ways of Troy Stavers.

Roy Ravers! Bin sleeper! Trilby wearer! Full time poet! 😛

  15. I see what you are saying BB, Bates is trying to show strong leadership.
It doesn’t alter the fact that a massive boycott would work.

I just don’t think it will happen. Daves right – apathy, laziness, misguided loyalty – there are a few reasons why, but I can’t see it happening unless Ashley really screws up. Maybe if he takes us down to the Championship and we are struggling to stay out the bottom three there or something.

As for the protests – i tend to believe that the ‘fat cockney *******’ type chants probably aren’t that helpful actually. They are often amusing but i think they tend to make us look closed-minded and parochial. Even on here I generally try to refrain from simply insulting him as it can make arguments put forward look weaker.

Actually the same applies to some of the so called ‘positive’ posters on here. They can barely string a paragraph together without a swathe of ad hominem attacks, or without insinuating they are ‘better fans’ or cleverer than anyone who holds a different viewpoint, or without telling people to ‘go away because their views aren’t welcome’.
It seems to me that if these people are as positive as they claim they wouldn’t need to be so insulting and dismissive of other peoples points of view and their individual right to hold them.
    Hey Ho!

TC dont try and make it out you were fishing with that one, you just fuked up and you dont want to admit it 😉 but dont worry I wont grass on ye 😀

  19. Pootle – I dont know about strong leadership 😕 But he just wont take no **** from some so called fans and it makes him dig his heels in harder.

For sure a mass protest/boycot wont ever happen at SJP. Some folks are sooo precious about their seats that they have had for years.
I’m convinced that if NOBODY had renewed their season tkts this year, the **** would hit the fan big time. And it would be Ashley doing the shitting. The negative publicity would be immense. No embarrassing bed sheets req’d either. Wont ever happen tho.
I’m not convinced that protest will work tho, not without tearing the place to pieces, which is self defeating lol.

  23. So it looks like there is still a slight chance the Pieters deal will go thru.
Just not in time for the visit to the inbreeds.

These muppets just dont get how important this game is to the ordinary fan, do they ❓ 👿 👿

      (Quote)

  24. I can understand Forster leaving for Celtic – but why get rid of Harper? Unless he is thinking retirement after his latest injury, it makes no sense. Why get a League 1 keeper in to cover?

This is wasting money on a position we don’t need to strengthen, it’s dumb.

      (Quote)

  25. I wouldnt be surprised if he picks up a knock tomorrow night. That should seal the deal. Hey ho 😡

Reet talking to me self again. Not a good sign. later folks.

  26. as I’ve already mentioned, we will not be bringing in an LB or Striker before mackem game – in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if all transfer deals have been completed – unless of course someone offers us money – we won’t buy unless ‘free’ and agent will take a reduced fee – dull and boring

      (Quote)

  27. I see a lot of people are now disappointed we are not going to sign Pieters, maigo (or whatever he’s called) or even Erdinc!

Why get your hopes up everytime to be disappointed….

  28. Seems like we’re bringing in Rob Elliot.

No, not the left back we had years and years ago, this bloke’s a “highly rated youth product” of Charlton Athletic. Plays as GK, so direct cover for Forster.

Hooray, a signing before the big derby…

      (Quote)

  29. @Moreno 214

Why get our hopes up? Because we support the Toon, famously playing in black and white stripes. Represents our constant struggle with hope and despair and hope and despair and hope and despair and hope…

  31. Moreno,

Forster is back to Celtic on loan with an option to buy him at any time during the season. In turn, we are signing some keeper from Charlton and the word seems to be that Harper and Soderberg are open to leave if someone comes in for them.

Seems like Krul is no. 1 and this Charlton guy is back up.

      (Quote)

  32. We could always play Marveux at left back if fit…he won’t be getting skinned, and he’d provide a great bit of attacking down the left…but can he put in the tackles? Personally if Raylor plays as well as he did last week-and by that i mean not terrible, then i’d stick with him.

  33. There are alternatives to manage this club whatever Ashley and co may say
we are still a BIG club (however much they want us to be a mediocre team raking in cash ), and could attract good managers but none of them would take a risk under this regime
however much you think of pardew as amanager /coach we are stuck with him until this lot goes or he fails miserably most of us want ashley out but none of us wants to fail miserably so all we can do is what we always do support the team . the most annoying thing is that I think that we have made acouple of good buys (probably accidently) and if we made two or tree more
quickly so that we can get them bedded in we might have some sort of chance of a top half finish but we must find a fifteen goal striker from somewhere we could probably cope whithout a left back for a few weeks jonas played there for Argentina ,but not until January. team against mackems
    Krul

    Simpson Jonas /Taylolr R

    Williamson Colocinni Tiote

    Barton Cabaye Obertan

    Shola Ba

Subs S taylor Harper R Taylor Vukic Gosling Best Marveux

      (Quote)

  34. Moreno you are friendliness personified.

Personally am not too bothered by Foster leaving. Elliot move shows he has no future at the club. Pieters/any left back coming in today would be great.
