It’s fair to say this transfer has been a nervy and frustrating one for Newcastle fans. I have said a million times that a transfer window can be a time of either excitement or dread, depending on which team you support.
We heard the hierarchy promise that the £35 million we gained from selling Andy Carroll would be made available to Alan Pardew this summer. We were told that the money was going to be reinvested into the PLAYING staff. Of course since then we have been fed crap about the money being used in other areas of the club.
Our worse fears and gut feelings about Mike Ashley’s intent for this window have been confirmed up to this point. Not only haven’t we splashed the cash, but also been informed that we must sell before buying. For various reasoning this window has seen us lose Kevin Nolan, Jose Enrique and Wayne Routledge so far.
I’m very much of the opinion that players are replaceable and in football there is little time to mourn and dwell over departures. I can live with players leaving the club, as long as they are replaced. This is a task that seems to overwhelm, baffle and confuse Ashley and co as they struggle to replace the one and only left back we had at the club.
My point being with the money we have available and with outgoing players that need replacing we should surely be looking forward to who we could be bringing in during the next two weeks? Not for me, I just count down nervously the days until the window closes and I can concentrate on football again. I’m skeptical about bringing in a quality left back and striker and I’m more worried about who else may leave.
Today has been very quiet for transfer news as far as new arrivals go. However Sky Sports News have this afternoon reported that Premier League new boys QPR are preparing a bid for United right back Danny Simpson. It has been documented that contract talks between Danny and Newcastle have failed to materialize and reportedly any discussions have broken down.
Danny was a solid performer in The Championship during our promotion season and had his moments last season too. Simo was tipped for a England call up last season and although he didn’t make a Capello squad, the mere fact he was in contention shows his performances were being noticed. I have got to be honest though England do lack options in that position and young players like Danny should be very aware of that.
It has been suggested that Neil Warnock- QPR boss and village idiot is preparing a bid for the former Manchester United defender and will test test Newcastle’s resolve to keep the player. QPR have just completed a takeover of the club and the new man in charge is ready to splash the cash. The clubs ambitious bid for West Ham’s Scott Parker shows they are ready to compete for players in the market.
Personally I’d be sad to see Danny go, but he is very replaceable. It’s just unfortunate that if the lad was sold he probably wouldn’t be replaced. I must stress at the moment this story appears to be in very early stages and as far as I know the clubs haven’t even made contact yet. What do you think?
