Barton signs for QPR.

How long before he is kissing QPR's badge?
Joey Barton has left Newcastle and has joined Queens Park Rangers on a four-year deal.

To be fair it’s been a long time coming, and whilst I don’t really believe he wants to go to QPR judging by what I’ve seen and heard of him in recent days, I can’t say that I’m surprised that he has gone. To QPR yes, but in general, no. Where is this Champions League club he wanted?

They’ve got a good player so fair play to them. They’ll get a committed performer who will give his all on the pitch but will need a lot of attention off the pitch. If Neil Warnock and Co can keep a handle on Barton then they will have a real asset on their hands, and all for absolutely no transfer fee aswell. Absolute bloody bargain if you ask me.

As for Newcastle, whilst I do think we’ll miss his influence I don’t think we’ll miss his ability. His ability to motivate maybe, but technically he isn’t, and never has been, that great. In fact it’s since the sale of Andy Carroll that his affect on the team has dropped, and by that I mean the amount of assists he got.

It’s hard to see how Joey Barton will really fit into our midfield once we get either Gabriel Obertan or Sylvain Marveaux up to speed anyway. These are dedicated wingers who can get to the byline and caused problems with pace. Look in the middle and we have Yohan Cabaye and Cheik Tiote as a first choice pairing with Dan Gosling and a few others as backup I fell we could just about be ok. Maybe I’m trying to think we’ll be ok?

So a four year deal it is then which gives Barton the chance of a bit of security. I really can’t blame him for that at all. Remember he was available on a free transfer and with no sign of a change in stance from Newcastle I can’t really fault him for looking after himself.

So thanks for everything Joey. I hope you continue the hard work and I hope you can stay on the rails. We’ll see you again soon enough as we’re down your neck of the woods in a few weeks time I can’t wait to here these tales that you were telling us about. Something about the truth? Let us know, just please don’t say that you were pushed out after making such a defiant stance about how a contract can be sat on and how you couldn’t be forced to go anywhere.

In terms of Newcastle, another player out and another day with nobody in. They’ll have to pull something out of the hat in terms of transfer activity although past experience tells me that it just won’t happen. Shame really as this summer could have been great and could have given us a platform to build on instead of having to rebuild an entirely new platform.

Will it work though?

  1. Blackley: I dunno, I just think at these times you need to forget about what Ashley is doing and focus on the things on the pitch, get behind the team as we all want to see decent football and the club succed. Ashley won’t sell the club for a long time and he’s trying to put an Arsenal blueprint into the club.

Bowburn: Yeah they can be positive and negative which doesn’t help at these sort of times, people jump on the same bandwagon

I’ll admit it is frustrating but you have to ‘always look on the bright side of life’

  2. Axel: Totally agree with you, watching Cabaye last night really showed me that he is a quality player. He did the simple things, passing the ball, helping the defence out. He is going to be a great player for us.

Once the team is bedded down and they start playing reguarly then they will settle and will we have a very good team. They just need to get to know each other and the next run of games will help as they will be able to get to know how they all play together

  3. Can see Gosling starting instead, but is he really best out wide? Cabaye and Tiote in CM

Like to see us play Vuckic or Sammy instead, with Shola up top and go for it

  4. just telt wor lass I’m having another beer she just rolled her eyes at me……. So i picked them up, and rolled them back 😀

What’s your views on Barton leaving?

Do you blame him or do you understand his decision?

      (Quote)

  6. Gosling isnt a winger his best position is playing off the striker imo.

I think we will see Vuckic or Sammy starting soon along with Marveaux but i think Obertan needs time out wide to show what he is about he isnt a striker.

  7. Troy if you get the chance you wouldn’t be so grateful to answer me @ 105
Im just interested in finding out what type of guy you are 😉

  8. Zoe – I’ve got a decade and a bit on you, so I’m just a bit more cynical. You should always try and stay positive, just don’t get to the point where you stick your hand in the sand and hope for the best if there’s an alternative.

Dave – cheers buddy, yeah good to see you being a reasoned antagonist as per. Don’t get on .org much, I’m pretty busy up in Edinburgh and when I get the chance, I’m normally on TOTT or having a look on here.

  9. he pissed me off even more within a minute of him thanking toon fans he put a pic up with him and his new hoops top ,that says thanks but ***** off now ive got a new team 1st class c unt

  10. Gosling has seemed more of a box to box energetic type from what I have seen/heard, can see him playing deeper and agree Obertan behind the striker. Interested to see how we pan out. Not too happy a time, at least seeing some youngsters come through would be good!

  11. @Zoe

Regarding Cabaye. Do you not think his quality you say he has, should have shone through considering we were playing a Div 1 side.

I fail to see what you did. He was competitive and looked tidy.

Emre and Acuna were similar but really failed in the long run.

I am not saying he won’t make an impact as it is very early days, but I will say, it’s too early to say he’s quality and be a great player.

Don’t get carried away is the best advice I can give you. 😉

You need to take a step back fella and understand his situation.

    You are blinkered.

  13. ToonTom Gosling is another player that could benefit from Joey’s departure.
I do believe if we get a LB but most importantly a quality striker we could be ok this season, but as I said without new players and a few injuries we could really struggle

      (Quote)

  14. BD, agree as I said earlier, Gosling seems to be set to replace Barton, but think Id like to see one of the youngsters have a chance and be more positive….

LB and striker key yes…Ba not looked great so far! Plus I am not a Taylor lover!

  15. Sound advice Bowburn. The club has been through a lot of tough times and I always felt that sacking Sir Bobby was the biggest mistake that the club made. great manager of us and I thought that was a reason why when we got relegated it was our time, I was gutted but I kinda thought we haven’t had stability since him. we had finished well some seasons i.e with Roeder and I thought he was going to carry on.

It doesn’t help that the club has been in the public eye with bringing back keegan and so on.

I missed your question on 105. I use my phone on the mobile site and it doesn’t show the post number.

    Try again fella.

  17. Zoe, agree about Robson, it was nonsense at the time and lots knew it then. Was a sad reflection of the unrealistic demands of some fans. I am hoping we get sold after solidifying out Prem position to realistic and ambitious, if not multi-billion pound owners!

      (Quote)

  18. Troy – I’m with you on the Barton one. Big Dave says he gave his word he wouldn’t go to anything other than a big club. I don’t know that he shook anyone’s hand or swore on oath. He just made an off the cuff remark in the midst of the brouhaha. I would do exactly the same given the short term earning capacity of a professional footballer. Always think hoops look good too. Can’t believe you didn’t know about Saylor. Were you in your padded cell at the time that ws going down?

Nothing angers me more than Ashley.

    I couldn’t work under him . So I don’t blame any of them. 😕

      (Quote)

  20. B+B maybe I was brought up different but I would never give my word unless I know I can keep it, your words your bond.
It wasn’t an off the cuff remark it was said more than once .
I understand that the Fat c@nt that owns our club made it almost impossible but what I am angry at is that he shouldn’t give his word then go back on it.
As Joey said he had to make the decision to stay or go that means that he had the chance to keep his word

      (Quote)

  21. Big Dave – I don’t know. Did he say, “I give my word to all you loyal fans that I’m not going”? Have you never made a rash statement in the heat of the moment (heated week or two) and then when you’ve calmed down thought I’m just cutting my nose off to spite my face here? I could understand it if he’d signed a contract, or swore on oath, but this is a twitter rant in the heat of the moment when he might well have meant what he said at the time. He’s now changed his mind. Bear in mind that his future financial security is at stake. Besides QPR can’t be a small, unambitious club if they can afford to pay £75k a week.

      (Quote)

  22. Big Dave – put it another way. Do you think it is okay for a bloke to ask his wife for a divorce after four years of marriage, even if he told her he loved her only the week before?

      (Quote)

  23. @Big Dave

I’m a very loyal person and strongly believe in keeping my word.

However, every issue should be treat based on the individual circumstances.
I genuinely believe Barton meant what he said, but it was in the midst of anger.

He’s had time to reflect and make a huge decision in his life and I’ve got no doubt he’s considered the comments he’s made.

He’s not stupid, he’s hot headed and wears his heart on his sleeve.

He’s made the correct decision in my opinion and I’m sure he holds the Toon fans close to his heart.

Without being flippant, football is not a love story like some believe it is.

It’s an athletes very short career and the right decisions have to be made for himself and his family.

He now has to embrace QPR and move on and Toon fans should not feel snubbed like jilted lovers as many do.

We are men not women. 😕

      (Quote)

  24. Barton technically isn’t, and never has been that great.

    WHAT?!

Tell me a better player in the squad? There’s nobody on the same wavelength as him. Possibly Colocinni the only one able to read the game like him. Everyone else is pretty clueless in comparison, with time needed to see how Cabaye develops.

    You don’t deserve eyes.

  26. Big Dave – Yeah, Nolan was right to leave his lass. Its about the money first, the football career second.

      (Quote)

  27. @Michael L

I agree. I think he is hugely underrated . He’s nit a flamboyant player but he can get the game by the scruff of the neck and influence it.

Every great team needs an ilk type of player.

I don’t think he is good enough for a top 4 side but he is our Roy Keane, Eric Cantana, Bryan Robson and all the other Man Utd greats that Ferguson built his team around.

      (Quote)

  28. Troy sorry mate but Joey has made it clear that money has got nowt to do with it. as he has said many times he has a multi million £ business and other things so no money cant be it.
Bobby dont get me wrong I understand why he left I just thought he was a man of his word as he has touched on on twitter and on a phone in .he done, if he explained which he can now unless MA bought his silence how he was forced it would make it a whole lot better.
I guess in a way I feel betrayed because I have backed him when 90% of our Fans thought he was a devil because I had faith in him, which I know is a stupid thing to do

They are all hiding as they are now realising that Pieters won’t be here within the next 36 hrs like they predicted.

Another unnecessary slating I got for that one .

They will be up with the larks checking the websites to see if he’s arrived on Tyneside .

Troy will be snoring away in a deep comfortable sleep safe in the knowledge Pieters will be doing the same in Holland. 😆

  30. I hate that word “technically” when applied to footballers. Its a pile of sh**. People who say it think they sound knowledgeable because they’ve heard Gary lineker say it on MOTD. I don’t know what it means. Does it mean he comes on the pitch with a sextant, a slide rule, and a Casio Sport watch that can go to depths of 200 metres? You’re either a good player or a bad player in my book.

      (Quote)

  31. Big Dave – Not wanting to dodge one. What point are you making about Nolan?

      (Quote)

  32. @batty

You know I support Steve Wraith and his views.

    No he doesn’t I’m sure. 😉

      (Quote)

  33. Big Dave – He left for the financial security, didn’t he? If so, I can’t argue with that. I thought you dodged it. You said your word is your bond. Have you ever been married? Did you give your word that you would be married for life (not just some twitter rant)? What happens when circumstances change? Would you never ask for a divorce under any circumstances or would you slag any of your mates off if you witnessed them pledge thier troth in front of you, then ask for a divorce some time later?

He wants exactly what we do.

Ashley to stop lying, change his transfer policy which he has the ability to do, or sell up.

In my opinion, you have to get over this jilted lover business and realise the business these players are in.

Like every business, the owner should take the flak for the treatment of his employees.

An athlete has to look back on his career and believe he achieved as much as he could.

Would you really expect Rooney to remain at Everton his whole career?

Shearer rebuffed us until we were on a high and contending for the Premiership.

Why didn’t Shearer confess his dying love for the Toon when he was 21?

It’s madness to expect any player to live their lives like that IMO .

No I wouldn’t hold it against anyone for getting divorced if it broke down 😉
But when Joey gave his word it was already broke down and on the rocks ❓
Nolan said the main reason was that him and Lambsarse had talks and sorted things out, and that basically Lambsarse had gave him his word over the contract that they discussed. Only for Lambsarse to go back on his word and not offer the contract they had agreed.
so the trust was gone and Nolan couldn’t stay because of the breakdown in trust 😉

Bobby Joey was just in the wrong for going back on his word, But the Fatman and his pet Lamb are to blame for causing the whole fuking mess in the 1st place, but I really cant see him leaving anytime soon

  40. Troy,

I have just swallowed and moved on.

I liked Joey as a character and I think that was borne from the fact he was sticking two fingers up at the board by sitting on his contract when they wanted him gone.

As soon as he decided to change tact and left, my respect and admiration died.

It’s not like we have learned anything new from the board over this. Same has happened time and time again.

People are also asking Joey to ‘spill the beans’…..and say what exactly? We already know what has happened, they rescinded a contract during negotations and have backed Joey into a choice of 4 years security or being a modern day che guevara…..as egotistical as Joey is he isn’t stupid….made the right move for him.

      (Quote)

  41. My hatred for the board remains and I still think Pardew was in league with them and his support of Joey turned when he was made available for free. To make sure the manager was absolved from the backlash…worked a treat too

This board manipulate the media and fans to their own end constantly, there’s always a plan

he wasn’t giving the same signals regarding Barton before that happened….funny that…. 😕

      (Quote)

  42. Moreno you touched on something there, I thought Joey was going to teach them 2 c@nts that they cant treat everyone like **** as I thought he was going to make the stand that no one else can and in so doing teach them a fuking lesson

  43. Dave,

That’s my biggest disappointment. They have won again. And always will, to the detriment of the club

“Troy, Drive the reality train and make sure Batty and Big Dave senior posts. 😆

When talking about players making decisions, none of us really know the right answer, cos we don’t know the facts.

The difference with the regime is, we know theyve lied to us, it was proven by the tribunal.

Their decisions are abysmal and they are continuous . That for me is an easy subject to express confident opinions. 😉

      (Quote)

  46. Moreno @ 218 thinking about it that is my biggest disappointment I thought Joey was the one that wouldn’t back down to them, and like you I feel as if they have won yet again 👿
