Newcastle drawn away at Nottingham Forest in Carling Cup

Up for the cup?
Newcastle have been drawn away at Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Carling Cup. The games will be played on the week commencing 19th September.

Newcastle were given two tough games by Nottingham Forest during our Championship winning season although things have progressed since then. We’ve of course gone on to secure Premier league survival whilst Forest failed to push on from where we left them and missed out on promotion again.

It won’t be easy though as they are a vocal set of fans and will be up for the match at the City Ground. I was there back in 2009 when we lost 1-0 and I remember it being a cracking atmosphere although perhaps the most vivid memory of the match was my brush with the law outside the ground after the game.

The full draw is as follows.

Cardiff v Leicester
Wolves v Millwall
Chelsea v Fulham
Aldershot or Carlisle v Rochdale
Arsenal v Shrewsbury
Burnley v MK Dons
Leeds v Manchester United
Brighton v Liverpool
Nottingham Forest v Newcastle
Manchester City v Birmingham
Blackburn v Leyton Orient or Bristol Rovers
Swindon or Southampton v Charlton or Preston
Everton v West Brom
Crystal Palace or Wigan v Middlesbrough
Aston Villa v Bolton
Stoke v Tottenham

Obviously we have a tough draw. Going away to a Championship side is not easy, but if we can get through we will be only one of a handful of Premier league clubs left in the competition. In fact there will be a maximum of nine left in the competition after this round, not including us.

Let’s try and get Forest out of the way first though!

  1. Hopefully the scunny game is a wake up. After what AP said about targeting cups, would have been awful to go out to them.

Should we be looking at cups with a small squad? I think yes. Hwtl.
