Newcastle close in on striker deal

Maiga lined up for Toon move.
Newcastle are closing in on Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga, if reports is the Sunday press are to be believed.

The People claims that Derek Llambias has been out in France since Thursday trying to tie up a deal having watched Maiga play in a 4-0 home Europe League defeat by Ukrainian outfit Metalist Kharkiv.

Maiga had been on strike in the hope of getting his move to Newcastle in a move which annoyed the French club enough to report Newcastle to UEFA. It seems though that Maiga played in that game to earn his move away from the French club according to his agent Karim Aklil.

β€œHe played on condition that the club allowed him to leave this month, providing they find a replacement,” said Aklil.

I’m assuming that, should we sign him, the complaint to UEFA will be dropped? I mean we would have met Sochaux’s demands so they won’t have anything essentially to be unhappy about. They’ll have an unhappy player of their books and will have a replacement in according to Maiga’s agent so hopefully the complaint will just subside.

As for the player, well it’s fair to say that he still has his mind set on Newcastle.

Maiga said: β€œI want it to be done with Newcastle. England is a dream. I want to go.”

That has been the rhetoric of Maiga since day one. In fact it was his words that set the rabbit away on the first place when he spoke about how he’d met people from Newcastle. Most definitely an own goal from the striker but I guess you can’t knock his desire to play for us.

Nolan Roux and Papiss Demba Cisse remain linked with us although it seems as though Maiga is the preferred choice. Who we’ll get is up for debate but we only have a maximum of four days to wait and find out. It’s quite conceivable that we could end up with nobody though, which is worrying.

So four days to bring in at least a left-back and a striker. Can it be done? Will it be done done? Are you nervous about it?

I know my nerves are starting to jangle…

  6. Ok Thad. What I’m saying is whether you realise it or not, your beef with Troy is personal. Stardust alone fits in more insults per square paragraph than everyone else combined. πŸ˜†
There’s nothing wrong with being pissed off at, or not liking another poster, but constantly asking to have him banned for reasons about 50 of the rest of us could justifiably accused of makes you look bad, not him.
if you can’t get on with Troy and dont want to get involved in verbal wrestling then just ignore him.

I doubt I would ever have cross words with you Thad because you are never rude to me, and I couldn’t be rude to you unprovoked because you’re too cheerfully optimistic. It would be like shooting Bambi.

  7. Thad I used to be more optimistic too but MA has grinded that outta me,
I think one of your biggest problems is that you have showed a weakness and sometimes when people see that weakness they will keep going for it.
As Toonsy says @ 150 is the right thing to do.
I personally get Troy and I know what he is like as I have said before only once did I have a problem with Troy and I told him, from then I get on fine with him, and to be honest I like the fella but probably because I understand what he is about, and I will admit that I find it funny how easy he gets people to bite.
If I thought he crossed the line I would say to him but I honestly havn’t seen that happen in a long time, and I have seen that the abuse he gets is a lot worse than the banter he hands out.

At the end of the day maate this is a blog and not a national broadsheet newspaper if people don’t spell correctly or make mistakes typing or are dyslexic or are black, chinese or disabled in some way what the [email protected]#k has it to do with being an NUFC supporter wanting to post your thoughts on a blog with fellow Toon fans……..None anyone who is critical of anyone elses view, standpoint or persuasion on here is the one who has a problem not the one who is just giving his point of view on a specific subject like the Toon. Whatever happens in the transfer window and beyond I as NUFC supporter welcome all people regardless of ability or race to Newcastle United and invite them to Join the Toon army.

  16. Thad….unless you are under 16 or something or get stressed out easy i dont think you can call anyone a bully on here. A person can only be a bully if you let it get to you mate. you are not likely to meet anyone off here unless you choose to do so. I would take everything with a pinch of salt brother and just keep on with the footy theme.
Toonsy talks crap all the tiem but i never let on i think that πŸ˜‰

    πŸ˜†

In earlier posts when I tried to type in ‘Krul’, my phone kept changing it to ‘leukemia’!

BTW. I’m on nights for a bit. When I get some time off I’ll see if i can do the James Perch – Donkey thing.
    That sounds seedy, on reflection.

  19. Thad,

Just because he proved you wrong you’re on a mission. Put your dummy back in. Blog needs characters like bobby in my opinion, if you don’t get his banter then woe to you quite frankly.

If he had been wrong about Pieters he would have been slated by you and everyone else for that matter.

He takes more abuse than any and doesn’t give it back for fear of getting bannedd. He has done absolutely nothing wrong on this occasions.

Waxed your arse for Fenwicks window?

If we start poorly again and they get a goal early I think we’ll really struggle.
    If they don’t, I fancy a draw.

Hoping I’m wrong and we twat them though. πŸ˜†

Ice your on the old thread with the slow ones πŸ˜†

  24. Moreno I think its plain to see that the people who whinge about Troy the most are the people who made ridiculously optimistic predictions about how we’d start the season, or people who slagged him off as stupidly negative despite the fact that his doubts have been broadly accurate.

I mean he does wind them up but he’s nowhere near as abusive as some supposedly positive people. It’s amazing how spiteful positive people get when they start coming to terms with being wrong! πŸ˜‰
Shouldn’t positive people just turn the other cheek or something anyway? πŸ˜†

  25. I think Troy should be allowed to spout whatever crap he wants – same with Pootle, Craig and Stuart
