Toon to tie up deal for Slovakian goalkeeper?

Bolek's to it....

Bolek's to it....
Newcastle are said to be on the verge of Slovakian goalkeeper Petr Bolek on a season long loan deal from FK Senica.

Sky Sports are running with the story and have actual quotes to back up their claims, so with that in mind I have no reason to doubt the validity of their claims.

It seems a strange one though. I mean Bolek is 27, has never played outside of his home country and isn’t even an international. Add to that the fact that we have Tim Krul, Steve Harper and Ole Soderberg that make up the three first team goalkeepers at NUFC so why bother with someone else? I mean granted it’s not going to be a financially heavy deal, but even so the money could still be used elsewhere. Like on a new teapot maybe?

Dusan Vrto – the Senica sporting director – is understood to have travelled with Bolek to Newcastle where the goalkeeper will undertake some trial before a final decision is made.

“Petr is to take part in a few training sessions and will undergo a medical,” Vrto told the FK Senica official website. “On the basis of these manager Alan Pardew will have the final say over whether they sign him or not. We expected this could happen. We have looked up some alternatives and will see if Petr impresses there.”

Meanwhile Viktor Kolar – the agent – has also revealed that we are up against Leyton Orient in the battle for his signature.

“We have received more offers. Some have been only just to ask us for some information but a number of clubs have given us a specific offer,” said Kolar.

“We have registered offers from the Russian top-flight as well as from the UK. Leyton Orient have been very interested in signing Petr and he would most likely be first-choice there. Newcastle United have been the next option and in advance both sides have agreed on a season-long loan spell with the option of a permanent move.”

I really don’t get this one at all. Why go after another goalkeeper unless they are better than what we have? I said much the same about Rob Elliot from Charlton when news first broke about that. I just don’t get it. If there is some logic that I’m missing then please feel free to enlighten me.

Of course there is a distinct possibility that this is the work of an agent. They are quite well versed when it comes to a bit of name dropping although that doesn’t explain why the club itself is also going along with it.Time will tell I guess.

Make of it what you will, but it’s certainly a deal out of the blue.

  1. Glad we are getting our priorities right in the transfer window. Unless someone has bid £3.50 for krul and we are getting a replacement before he leaves.

  4. Harper can’t string a training session or two together these days.

Soderberg isn’t good enough, trust me!

Not saying this guy is the answer but we could do with a keeper.

  5. Hitman,

Would prefer quality over quantity anyday of the week 😀

A Tiote and a Cabaye would be better than 11 James Perchs 😉

  6. Maybe Harper and Kadar are opening a beach bar in the Caribbean?

Actually…let;s see if there’s owt on Kadar’s facebook page – if he has one – as to where he’s gone!

  7. Moreno – Exactly. I don;t have the time or inclination to sit at my computer all day and publish every bit of news. I’m not retired fully yet and have a kid on the way so time is precious. What we do now is fine in terms of article numbers in my opinion. At least you get a good few each day 😉

  8. Hitman get your fuking tongue in 😆
I really dont see the point in a Goalie, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Harper is on his way out, maybe he has spat the dummy out because Krul got the No1 😕 and Maybe forster didn’t want to be on the bench 😕

  9. Aye Hitman,

remember walking straight into a closed door in the Dam like, that was after some real quality and a pint of guinness for breakfast. 😳 😆

  10. Surely its the one position we don’t actually need anyone? I was up for bringing in Westwood for cover and then maybe allowing us to sell Harper or Forster but we may as well stick with what we have now…and bring in players that we actually need for the first team

  11. Also FYI, I’ll be waiting for the longer highlights to come out with interviews etc before posting them if that is ok 🙂

  12. I do believe we’ll probably get the left back in before Wednesday…whether we get the striker in too we’ll have to see (or any others). To me the striker is not as essential, especially if we keep blending in the best youngsters effectively with the first team but most especially if Benny comes back and stays fit. I hope Pardew sees any new striker as one to compliment what we have, to give us pace and creativity rather than just be another big target man.

Apart from Smith (maybe Ranger unless he sorts himself out fast) I hope no one leaves, and we should value Colo very highly (iike, 12-15M plus, or not for sale at all).

If a lot of us Toon fans are sweating ahead of Wednesday, imagine the Arsenal blogs for example!!

    Why?

The only reason you can believe this is blind optimism? Am I wrong?

  14. Because I thought he was steady away. Nowt outstanding but nothing bad either. Just did what he had to do with minimal fuss 😕

  15. Harper is on his way out to get him off the wage bill. He’s on a fortune and Ashley needs to count some more pennies. Krul needs cover

  16. DON’T ANYONE BE SHOCKED IF THIS DOESN’T ALL ADD UP TO A LAST MINUTE EXIT FOR kRULL AND ANOTHER BIG FAT PROFIT FOR THE BIG FAT SHOP KEEPER. NOTHING ELSE MAKES SENSE, IF THERE’S ONE AREA I THINK WE ARE STRONG IN IT’S THE GOALIE DEPARTMENT, SO UNLESS SO UNLESS PARDS KNOWS IT’S SUDDENLY GOING TO WEAKEN WHY ELSE WOULD HE BE LOOKING FOR KEEPERS?
BIG RUMOR ON SUNDAY BEFORE THE FULHAM GAME WAS THAT HARPERS IN DISPUTE WITH THE CLUB OVER SOMETHING AND ALSO THAT DAN GOSLING STORMED OUT WHEN HE WAS TOLD HE WOULD NOT BE PLAYING!!!!

  17. There was talk of Soderberg going back to Sweden, I can’t imagine that this is more than cover up for him.
