Santon on his way to NUFC?

Davide Santon set for Toon move?
Another day and another left-back linked with joining the club. This time it’s the turn of Inter Milan’s Davide Santon to been linked with a move to the North-East.

The Daily Mail and Evening Chronicle ran this story late last night and even claimed that the Magpies had agreed a £5 million deal for Santon.

The Mail also continues by stating that Alan Pardew has turned to Davide Santon as it seems that the potential transfer of Erik Pieters has hit a stumbling block. How true this story is I’m not so sure but if Santon does indeed come to Newcastle then we have the added bonus that he can play at either left-back or right-back which would give us cover in two positions that we don’t have many players for.

Earlier this morning there were comments from Santon’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, stating: “At this time there is no possibility that Santon can join Roma because right now the aim is Newcastle.”

Reports in Italy have also suggested that Santon is on his way to Newcastle. These reports make me trust the story a little bit more and at the moment everything seems to point towards this deal happening.

Santon is an attacking full back who, as mentioned earlier, can play on either of the flanks. He made his first appearance for Inter Milan in the 2009-10 season against Parma and has since gone on to make forty appearances for the club. Santon left Inter Milan at the end of January 2011 transfer window joining Cesena on loan in a move that saw Yuto Nagatomo join Inter Milan in exchange. The Italian international made eleven appearances for Cesena during his loan spell.

I’m not sure what to make of this story but is becoming increasingly clear that the deal for Erik Pieters is not going ahead. The player himself expected to be on the bench for the Fulham game but that was not the case. It seems as if the clubs have not agreed a fee that is suitable for Pieters and that is why we may not see him brought in before the transfer window closes in two days time.

Santon does look like an exciting prospect from the videos that I have seen on YouTube so I thought it would be right to include one for you all to watch.

Who knows if this deal will happen? You certainly never can be sure when you support Newcastle United and they’ve pulled a few rabbits out of the hat before. Could this be another one?

What do you think?

  1. That was the rumour stardust… 😛

Thought I was witnessing one of the most elaborate Internet blog spit-roasts of all time… 😆

  2. Lol Witters

No – unfortunately for me Troy and myself are good friends in real life – everyones got him right – he is an attention seeking twerp with a curled up nose and bandy dwarf type legs.

  3. Santon is a class act. I’ve watched him a few times and the only question is whether he will adapt to the cold weather and culture of North East.

  4. Stardust @148

You claim to be responding to me?
Its not like you to let the facts get in the way of one of your deranged rants but, as talented as I am, I must tell you I’ve been asleep all day and not been on here so I’m not really sure to what you are replying.

Anyway without reading much further into what you said, I’m sure you’ll be wrong anyway. 😆

  5. I see that Pieters medical didnt go as well as all the Looney Tunes thought it would. 😆 😆 😆

Lets guess? – after close examination of his scans, the medical revealed that Pieters was a greedy, selfish player whose attitude was completely unsuitable for a quality establishment such as NUFC.

Lets all get hopeful about Santon now (at least until Ashley skimps on the fee or the player refuses to work for Argos vouchers)

  6. “Really sick of people b!tching about every single thing that happens to our club. I am going to so p!ssed if we dont get a striker by Wednesday but cant understand people complaining when something positive happens.”

    LOL. Ok Trumpet, I’ll bite.
What ‘positive’ thing has happened that people are complaining about?

Is it positive that we arent paying what most people consider to be fairly reasonable fee for the Dutch international left back?

Is it positive that we have been linked to yet another player about which we are supposed to get excited about?
Thats happened a fair few times now starting with Gervinho.
What happens is we try to screw the teeth out of the selling club, make blatant and repeaded attempts to tap up players, and lowball on wages.
Is this the positive thing we should all be celebrating?

  7. “you think its acceptable that Ashley is heckled and hated by a mob with less than 5% of the information available?”

About as acceptable as you adoring and adulating him with the same level of information. 😆

  8. “Let’s see how far the attendance has really dropped…. I mean it was only 1000 higher for the same game last season. I think people are making too much of one or two attendances.”

True Toonsy but you need to take in consideration how many people were at the game with free tickets eg. people who bought new Newcastle shirts apparently got a free ticket to the Fulham game and the free tickets that people would have used from the Fiorentina game that was called off if these “free” tickets were not available would we have had the same attendance. But as I think you previously stated Fulham did not bring a big away support which effected the figures also.
