What is our best XI?

Would Marveaux make it into your team?
First of all I would like to say you will of probably noticed I haven’t wrote an article for quite a while now for one reason or another but I’m back now and will be writing a lot more articles now and in the future!

Enough about me though, as you can tell by the title that this article is going to be about what players we currently have at the club than what we unfortunately don’t have.

Like it or not the transfer window has gone and no amount of anger or frustration is going to bring it back so all we can do is look ahead and hope that the team can continue with their good start to the season.

So with that in mind I’m just going to get straight into it and tell you what, in my opinion, I think our best team is. A 4-2-3-1 formation consisting of;

Tim Krul, Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Davide Santon, Yohan Cabaye, Cheik Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez, Hatem Ben Arfa, Sylvain Marveaux, Demba Ba

Now the usual suspects are in there, the likes of Coloccini, Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa etc but I do feel there is one or two ‘controversial’ calls in there.

Firstly, I’ve gone for Ryan Taylor over Danny Simpson. Now at the start of this season I was looking for Simpson to push on and become the right-back that some pundits were saying he already was. He was a player on the brink on of the England squad according to some.

For me though this season he seems to of gone backwards if anything. I’m not saying Ryan Taylor is the greatest defender in the world but considering the obvious threat he holds going forward he sneaks it ahead of Simpson for me.

Another one a few people might of raised an eyebrow at is Sylvain Marveaux ahead of Gabriel Obertan, especially considering he hasn’t figured in our Premier League campaign as of yet.

Now he is fully fit though we should start seeing a lot more of him and I’ve seen a fair bit of him when he used to play for Rennes and he is the real deal, pace to burn, lethal left foot, great cross, everything you would want from a winger. Let’s not forget as well that Obertan is still only 22 so we haven’t just bought him for the present.

Last but not least is Demba Ba. Some people might be shocked by that, others will see him as a regular starter like myself. Now I know he hasn’t exactly started well but as I’m sure a lot of you are aware Ba was participating in Ramadan so he should be cut a bit of slack and now that’s finished we will start to see the real Ba – the one who has scored goals where ever he has been.

It’s also worth pointing out that Cheik Tiote is reportedly also taking part in Ramadan, coincidence that he and Ba have been singled out by fans and rightly so for having poor starts to the season? I think not especially as we know they can both play a lot better and we saw signs of that against Fulham in our last game.

So that is what my team would be, what’s yours?

  1. Santon has to play straight away. We don’t have another option. Got lucky with Raylor so far. Lets not push our luck too far

  2. Anyone who thinks the above post by me is a wind up I can assure you it’s not.

That’s not a fishing rod out.

It’s from a source who is usually right.

I don’t know if it is or not yet I’m waiting to hear more.

I can’t get in touch with grandma Baba Vanga to confirm.

    He’s been very quiet tho.

  3. @Toby le Rhone

play his from the off at QPR?

no thanks m8, I’d rather take the chance with Raylor. It will be a fiesty affair at QPR with Bartons tackles flying everywhere. I’d expect a lot of free-kicks, thats why I’d play rocket-footed Raylor..

  4. 66 I have heard the same story and believe it. Lambarse has come out and defended the stance of Newcastle. Seemingly, Pardew was seething and not prepared to be the scapegoat anymore. Likely to see Newcastle looking for a new manager sometime soon!

  5. @big dave

It could be bullshit. I don’t know.

    I won’t mention it again.

    Unless I hear something else.

I don’t post rumours like I did when I first started on here. My mates trying to find out more. It’s his source.

  6. which of the blog/sites were here first, even considering nufc.com which I believe is the oldest?

we have .com .org .co.uk. tott, leazesterrace, howaythetoon

is there any of the above other readers use?

.com seems to be quite big

  7. I do reckon there has been a heated arguement between Pardew and owlheed, hence the statement of crap from DL but at the end of the day Pardew knows he has two choices.
He can walk away, but he needs the job. So I think much like us he will just bend over and take it.
However I think he will have less to say for the regime from now on.
He must know that he has been made to look a fool.
I do feel sorry for the poor fella.
I’m not expecting him to say anything against the regime, or walk away.
Does that make him a patsy?

  8. Mork – Everyone should read this place and this place only. I’ll allow people to use nufc.com aswell however ๐Ÿ˜€

  9. The only other info he knows is, Pardew has told the club he needs the weekend to think over his position.

    Who knows?

  10. @toonsy

Mork ๐Ÿ™‚ as in Mindys m8

yes, I know that m8 & wouldnt condone anything else.:)

I used to use .com yrs ago but rarely go there now. I would say this is the best. but then again havent really viewed others.

  11. @Troy Stavers

Pards doesnt take a weekend! he’s an action man, do or dont.. no dithering..

he just feels a little bit silly and will probs find it hard to talk with al that egg on his face.

  12. Mork ๐Ÿ˜†

    Shit soz man ๐Ÿ˜ณ

The worst thing is that the “a” and “o” are not even anywhere close haha

  13. Troy your words enough mate, and not that it means owt but I believe your not on a wind up, but I was being serious when I said about finding out about the sign ? Can you try to suss it out?

  14. Troy it wouldn’t surprise me as im sure Pards is well fuked off with them, he has had a hard time so far being accepted by us and just when he was starting to win some round, he is made to look like a knob by the 2muppets.
And it would explain why we havn’t seen him from then.
I really do hope he stays apart from th upheavel it would cause the team, i know i would have a real hard time getting any joy out of the team with JFK here.

  15. DAVE did we not hint something might be amiss last night i found it strange hes said nowt, not like him imo so maybe theres a storey toonsy and you thought it was because he was done like a kipper, maybe i have a more evil mind lol,its suck it and see time me thinks ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Dave and Ice, exactly. I think Pardew has learned the hard way. I’d expect him to talk less through the media in the future. It only ever makes him look like a bullshitter or puppet. He’ll most likely be as pissed off as me that we haven’t dipped into the infamous AC cash for a proven No.9. Despite our new look midfield and stronger defence, I’m sure we’ll struggle for goals again this year, but hey, I could be wrong. HTL!

  17. As far as I can see since the end of the transfer window Pardew has been unusually quiet. Could be something in it, maybe, maybe not…

I’d personally be sorry to see Pardew chuck his cards in, the bloke is trying his best in the circumstances, and at the end of the day maybe got most of his way in the transfer market, apart from perhaps a left back and a CF.

I believe we will sign a CF, left back and centre forward within the next 3 – 4 months. One out one in makes sense, Loven and Ranger out, CF in, later Smith out, new player in. What is wrong with that, sounds good to me. With a small squad, and in the event of injuries, we’ll just have to rely on Vukic, Sammy, Kadar etc stepping up to the plate…

  18. troy you are an angy bloke mate……do only look on blog sites? to be honest mate you are the weekst link….goodbye knobber….oh and you talk a load of sh*te but i dont mean that in a personal way so dont argue back …love john

  19. Don’t know if it was him that posted it first, or the late Bobby Shinton RIP, but didn’t Steve Wraith mention the East Stand sign being toasted ……?

Way out of order if you ask me…

  20. Krul, Raylor, Saylor, Colo, Santon, Ben Arfa, Tiote, Cabaye, Jonas, Ba, Best/Sammy/Shola any of these three with Ba should get goals for me id give Best the nod he has proven he can score goals. What I find strange is nearly everyone has Santon on but in reality we havent a clue if he is gonna hit the ground running I hope he does but I have my doubts.

  21. Krul
    Simpson, Taylor, Colo, Santon
    Obertan, Tiote, Jonas
Cabaye, Ben Arfa (when fit but for the now Marveaux)

    Formation: 4-3-2-1

  22. 26 krul
    5 simpson 27 s.taylor 2 colo 3 santon

    25 oberton 4 cabaye 17 smith 18 jonas

    28 sam.ameobi 11 lovenkrands
    subs/ 1harper / 16r.taylor / 29 vuckic / 20 best / 10 arfa / 22 marvo
