Newcastle 3-1 Blackburn – Video highlights and managerial interviews

I’ve dug up some highlights of the 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers for us all to enjoy.

Sit back and enjoy Demba Ba opening his Newcastle United scoring account by tucking away a sublime hat-trick in what was a dominant performance from the home team.

Interview with Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew was suitably delighted with the win, and it seems that an overwhelming majority of people seem to share that view. Newcastle passed the ball well, retained possession and created chances throughout the match. In truth it could have been more than just the three goals for the home side

Interview with Steve Kean

Steve Kean seemed to see the match differently however. He claims that the third goal changed the game and that without it his team could have gone on to get something from the match. It’s an odd thing to say considering his team only mustered one shot on target all game supplemented by only three shots off target and with only 40% of the possession to show for it.

I don’t want to go into the match in too much detail because I have another one of my mega match review articles coming up, but suffice to say it was a well deserved win with some very good performances and some even better passing play thrown in for good measure. I’ll keep quiet on that for now, but make sure you keep your eyes peeled for that match review.

Howay the lads!

  1. The passing still has a lot room for improvement. Far too many wayward passes to be totally excited, but, hey, it’s the best we’ve seen at Newcastle for a few years. And there were a few passages of play where they were quick too. It’s really encouraging. Long may it continue.

The next 8 games will be a testing time: Wolves, Spurs, Stoke, Everton, the Manchesters and Chelsea … and Wigan. If we’re still 4th after that run I’ll be surprised … and ecstatic

  2. Every premiership game a tough one but home games are all winnable.
We have to stay injury and suspension free.
Excellent start to the season. Pardew deserves a lot of credit.
Love to be around fourth in Jan and see two or three quality players come in.

  4. The team is playing some good stuff even though there is still work to do, i would settle for a top half finish and a good run in the League cup and the pressure will be off us when we go to Manchester for the 2 away games in a week.
The question mark will always be there about our lack of cover at the back but what a start to the season, unbelievable, i posted some time ago that i saw a comment from one fan about Ashleys business plan which he described as ” Falling into a big heap of ***** everyday and coming out smelling of roses”, hes not wrong is he?

  5. Something’s got to happen soon, hasn’t it?
This is not in Big Mikes master plan, he must surely be planning and plotting to get rid of Pardew. You can just imagine it,”Deka what the fks goin on? these Geordies shouldn’t be happy, sack Alan this week”. and “by the way I’ve seen some space for another sport direct.com sign in the Sir Deka Lamearse Stand.

  6. Aye Robert, I’d be happy with that, improve on the previous season that’s the name of the game……although looking at the final placings last season, I think barring injuries we are capable of finishing higher than 5 (at least) of the teams that finished above us and of the teams that were below us, including promoted teams, only Stoke would concern me. Of course that’s possibly me with my rose tinted and slightly biased specs on but I think it’s possible. HWTL

  8. if we take 12 points from the next 8 games then i will be happy . its a tough run of games and will show just how far we are compared to last season . Wolves ,Everton and Wigan i feel is where the wins will come from Stoke and Spurs are winnable but hard games

  9. Richie-I’ll have a look at them if you want pal, free of charge obviously :p

Seriously Kean is an absolute moron, still, hopefully he’ll get blackburn relegated this season and then he’ll be a legend in my eyes.

  10. Great win, the most pleasing thing is the slow death of the long ball game we have relied on for the pass few seasons… It really looks like we have some neat passers within our ranks(apart from the odd Tiote clanger 🙂 )It is nice football to watch. Also I had been backing Ba to come good on here all pre season and it’s fantastic to see him hit the back of the net…He is one of my strikers in the fantasy league and he has done this manager proud 🙂

  11. I think we’d have to be happy with 9 points from those games to be honest, though hopefully we’ll get a point or 2 more.

  12. I am also interested to see how the team will handle our first defeat ,which will happen at some point . I have a feeling this is a group of players that won’t let their heads hang and will turn up for every game even in the middle of a run of games we are heading into .

  13. Never saw the game yesterday, but by all accounts we were excellent in spells…One swallow doesn’t make a summer, but we appear to be on the right way. Ba’s first goal was immense, a goal Alan Shearer would have been proud of, and hit with real power. Well done to the lad….

We also appear to have a few mavericks in the team, especially with Obertan, Ben Arfa and Marveaux. Obertan will obviously blow hot and cold, but has pace to burn, and it’s good to have him in the team. We can only beat what is put in front of us, and we did that yesterday, no complaints. The test will come over the next weeks, I could imagine the new toon picking up a few draws on the road, maybe nicking a win here and there with pacy counter attacks. The new toon also seem to be getting some of the eternal sceptics on board, which is also good, though we all know it can go pear shaped at the next game, and that consistency is the name of the game.

For all the Pardew doubters, and I was one of them, and still am probably, it only goes to show what can be achieved with organisation and a bit of luck. Last year Owen Coyle was the great new manager on the scene, Bolton are bottom now, you would imagine the Bolton fans are whingeing big time. What about Arsene Wenger ?? On current form I would hold Pardew up against any of the managers outside of the top 6…oops we are in the top 4… apart from the big four, including perhaps Pullis (who also had a tough ride early days), Moyes and Redknapp…Pardew doesn’t appear to be out of his depth at the moment…

I couldn’t do a lot wit it mate as I had a long shift yesterday 🙂

  18. Let’s have none of this Blackburn were poor business. They beat Arsenal last week. We were brilliant. Good movement off the ball. Always a man available to pass to. Five or six players up an around the box when we were attacking. I think we could get goals from several players so I would concentrate in getting the full backs sorted out before a striker. Simpson played very well at times and every player will make the occasional costly mistake but unfortunately he has cost us several goals with the same basic error — standing off. I remember Harper slagging him off for it.

    Ok, fair enough.

As for Raylor, the goal was indeed his fault. Firstly, he lost the ball. Secondly, he lost Holiett, who he was supposed to be marking.

Other than that though, he was impressive. That headed clearance when under pressure from Holiett literally changed the game. If he didn’t make that Holiett would have easily scored and made it 2-2. We scored the 3rd shortly after I believe.

Simpson made an equally poor error with Olssen, but luckily the Swede hit the bar from about 3 yards. Again, he was impressive other than that. Especially going forward, where his overlapping runs gave an already on form Obertan even more space to run into.

  20. The Kid what Cabaye interview was it ?
As for Keane I can see him getting the push soon, I cant stand managers that find it impossible to take any blame, he must have been watching another game.

  21. Toonsy quite right the original error was with Taylor who had all the time in the World to get shot of the ball but I was trying to highlight Simpson’s weakness which was a contributing factor. Still think the two backs we have although working their socks off do not have the class of the rest of the team. Good back-up.

  22. Ah Goals on Sunday is **** at times. Sol Campbell literally says nowt and Paul Ince has too much to say about himself. The highlights were the same cack they showed on Motd and the hypocrisy of them to say that Newcastle are getting no positive press then not say anything about our game….

      (Quote)

  23. Lace…..two laughing boys there…Campbell and Ince. Ince has nowt positive to say about anyone, and Campbell has no reason to say owt positive about the toon after they toasted him. So we were never gonna get anything positive out of these two…

It’s the same on most of the banner headlines. First the top four get worshipped, then the next best…Spurs, Liverpool, Everton etc. Then the toon may squeeze in there…sad really, but it’s them against us mentality with the toon at the moment…

      (Quote)

  24. Munich – To be fair the Toon only toasted him because he was ****. They can’t be faulted for that 😉

I’m actually quite liking the fact that we’re being left alone. I’ve never worried about not getting good press or the media having it in for us. **** em.

  25. M @ #2, that is exactly what I thought. Waste of time watching MOTD. The pundits generally hate us. They were speaking out of their arses last night. If we had been wearing the colours of Spurs etc for that performance yesterday they would have been purring away at how far we have come! The video highlights showed hardly any of the immense passing that we produced. At one stage, when the crowd were right behind the team I reckon we put together over 30 passes in a row and almost scored too. It reminded me of the famous Argentina goal involving the influential Mascherano a couple of years ago.
I know it was only Blackburn, but in seasons gone by we would have struggled in a game like that. The boys deserve recognition for that performance, but must stay grounded and try to keep up the consistency if this club is going to be a regular contender for Europe again.

  26. The thing is most of these teams have won nowt for several years it longer. It pees me off no end

  27. Toonsy@37….you said it mate about Sol, he wouldn’t have been anywhere near the toon if it hadn’t been for his mate CH.

Turbo toon at the moment, so much pace in the side…howay the lads….!!

  28. I’m happy with the way our fixtures have come out, by the time the so called big boys come round we will have a team that’s played quite a bit together and have a much better understanding of each others game.
    We can only get better.

  29. Everyone is raving about Manchester United, but I am more fearful of City. United have been great going forward, but look poor defensively. We will definitely get chances against them. I am looking forward to that game.
