Any one who knows me well will know that I don’t care much for Liverpool. My hate is very random and maybe a little irrational but very tangible none the less.
Kenny Dalglish has seemingly watched Newcastle play a bit of the last year or so and licked his lips. It all started with the Liverpool gaffer making his move for former Newcastle hero Andy Carroll last January. Liverpool, seemingly desperate on deadline day, threw a wedge of cash at both Newcastle and the player himself to entice Andy to Merseyside.
It was a move that at the time sickened and saddened the long suffering Newcastle fans, who saw their local hero jump ship seemingly for the money. Liverpool then turned their attention to another Newcastle fan favourite in the form of left back Jose Enrique. Dalglish identified the Spaniard as a target not long after the January transfer window closed. The link appeared to unsettle Jose a little and all of a sudden a player who was always happy on Tyneside wasn’t willing to enter into contract negotiations with the club.
Jose could of used the sale of Andy Carroll as an excuse to question the ambition of the club, but I truly believe that Enrique wanted the move the second he was aware of Liverpool’s interest. The trouble is the defender wasn’t very forthcoming or honest with the fans at times and the whole situation turned into a saga. Jose got his move and had a parting shot at the club on the way, which needlessly put us in a negative light once again.
There has been reported interest in Ryan Taylor from Liverpool in recent weeks, although I can’t see anything in that one. However The Mirror is today reporting that Kenny Dalglish is keen to lure Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini to Anfield in the transfer window. The paper claims that Liverpool Director of Football, Damien Comolli has been watching the Argentinian and keeping close tabs.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has spoken publicly about his desire to keep the in form defender at the club and how is hopeful that the player can agree a new deal at St James’ Park. Colo has one year remaining on his current deal and no one needs telling how essential and important Fab is for us.
I was speaking to a Liverpool fan this evening, he described Colo as “gash” and the current Newcastle squad as “sh*t”. I felt the need to fill him in on stats from the season and remind him that despite our “easy” start we didn’t get smashed 4-0 by Spurs unlike some teams have this season. If he is a representation on Liverpool fans then it’s just another thing to add to my list of things I dislike about their club. Sheer arrogance.
Hopefully Colo will commit. He’s become a fans favourite and pivotal to how we play and present ourselves. Also I hear Liverpool fans get funny if you shag their wives…
