Game on! Newcastle v Everton

Nigh on a full house?
It’s seems strange to start one of these articles off with a ‘good morning’ but then again it’s not often we have an early start.

So in that sense it’s good morning and welcome to the match article which will take us all through every twist and turn of the Everton game.

A 12:45 kick-off has not put off a crowd that is expected to soar above 50,000 for the first time this season. That little feat is made all the more impressive when you consider that this early kick-off is on Sky TV here in the UK. Generally speaking an early kick-off plus a game being televised results in a dip in attendance, but not this time thanks in part to the rather decent offer of half price season tickets and in part thanks to the performance of the team.

Speaking of team performance, a win against David Moyes’ side will see us move into 2nd place in the Premier League for a couple of hours at least. With Manchester United playing the tramps from down the road at Old Trafford at 3pm you would have to say that should we rise to the loftier heights of 2nd then it will only be for a couple of hours and we’ll just have to settle for 3rd place as we head into the international break.

In terms of previewing the game,Shamrock has penned a most excellent match preview which you can view here. It’s full of useful stats and analysis which you can peruse at your leisure. You can also have a look at the Zoe’s take on how to beat Everton in her article here.

As for the match itself, as mentioned earlier it is on TV which in turn should mean that there are plenty of streams available for those who aren’t going to be at the game or don’t subscribe to Sky. The key word in that last sentence though is “should” as there is always a chance that the ones that do show up are a bit, well, pony.

That just about wraps this up really as we’re mainly here for the match. Can we make it 11 league games unbeaten this season and head into the international break with an even bigger spring in our step? You never know…

  1. Another fantastic result … unreal … has to be said whole defensive unit playing well – all of them including simpson .. belta

  2. What a result! But you could tell that the players are starting to feel the burn out. especially Jonas and Cabaye
And I was a disappointed with Gosling… rated him highly after the preseason showings but he hasn’t been able to recapture that sort of form.

  3. For those who say the game passed Gosling by:

    NUFC_Stats:
Dan Gosling was top tackler of the game. The ex-Efc midfielder got all 4 of his challenges on target #nufc

  4. It’s a mark of a good side when you play below par and still win ❗

Well done the Toon, Colo was immense 🙂

  5. The Kid I never really listen to the critics I find that some fans watch to see what a player isn’t doing but fail to see what they do do 😉 Jonas is a prime example he gets slated sometimes for not providing more crosses but he gives more than any other player

  6. Hitman on that I have noticed Simmo not backing of as much over the last few games, I like him and think he is a decent player 😉
TGS I watched some of Colo’s work today and he was awesome

  7. I have to say that Guthrie looked great today. Always moving and alongside Cabaye looked great. Gosling and esp HBA have been out so long I think they will take a bit longer, but I also think they will need to be starting games to get into it from the start. HBA esp looked a bit slow when he came on.

On a diff note, I think Ranger has had it now as Sammeobi looks a great prospect and can totally understand why he is in the squad. He has so much potential.

I also think we can see how much Obertoon has given us too. Marveux didnt look up to speed, and Jonas seemed jaded. The international break cant have come at a better time. I just cant see anything than a sneaked 1-2 points from the next 3 games but we have the points on the board already which is fantastic. I defy anyone to say they are not happy with the season so far, getting beaten in the CC aside of course!!

    😉

  8. I thought Guthrie was really good today too. Incredible that we’re 2nd…

Worried about the injuries a bit, but didn’t realize the international break was upon us, so the rest should do us good. Jonas looked very tired and some others too. Incredible…

  9. Anyone saying Guti was bad this game doesnt really understand football. He was immense working by tracking back n hassling. Yes he didn’t get offensive much but that depends on your gameplan, the opponents, the situation etc. We had 3 of our usual 4 midfielders out of the game. What do u expect. And for Gosling he is just returning. Even messi would need some time if he was out for months. Cut them some slack. We are only second because of them not in spite of them. Howay the lads

  10. Only just finished watching the game as we had recorded it and were out. What a result, I thought Ryan Taylor and Danny Guthrie were outstanding today. Was impressed with Gosling today too, all the team did really well to be honest.

Rather glad that there is an international break now, allow our players to have a break now and recover from the energy that they have put in the run of games. Allows us to regroup and make plans for our next three games

  11. I think these hard games coming up are going to be just as hard for the oppositon as they are for us . Lets face it , we have a real team that are busting a gut for each other and are very under rated by the so called experts . We have a bit of class in the squad and although i would be shocked if we got anything out of the city game , we could get something against utd and chelsea .

  19. Ah, well, would have been a ticklish irony, but **** ’em all the same. We’re third! And I’m not feeling too worried about MU. Feel like that game could go either way. City, on the other hand…

  20. I said before, man united and chelsea game is give or take, there is a chance.

As for man city game, pray well someone from their side get send off early. 🙄

  21. given that we were hoping to be the best of the rest. in 7th place we will be there minimum after these three games as even if Villa win all three of their games they will still only have 24pts.

  22. just got back from the match lads…. i’ve been reading the comments and think you were all a bit too worries about gosling… he actually played a good game, lost the ball once outfield and once in a the box which was **** but actually had a good game.

Guti at no poin looked tired… he’d runninf around so he’s allowed to be out of breath. but he actually looked comfortable.

If best had done 90minutes he’d be man of the match

  31. Evening all. Just got back 🙂

I’ll crack on with match report first thing tomorrow as I’m fricking knackered:(

On the match,Guthrie was MOM for me. Simply brilliant. Simpson was good as was Raylor andLeon Best did alot of donkey work and won a lot of headers and flick ons. Marv did his job well until he got injured but it doesn’t look to be serious, same with Cabaye.

Was right in line with the Raylor goal. What a cracker 🙂
