Sammy Ameobi has become the latest highly rated youngster to commit to the club after he signed a new three-and-a-half year deal yesterday.
This is very welcome news with recent shenanigans that have befallen on Newcastle United.
Since Ameobi’s appearance in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge he has grown in leaps and bounds. The youngster scored his first goal during the friendly at Darlington during pre-season where the fans chanted ‘If Sammy scores we’re on the pitch,’ which duly happened where the game was delayed for ten minutes whilst the pitch was cleared. Following on from that he scored his first competitive goal in the Carling Cup second round against Scunthorpe.
Since then the youngest of the Ameobi brothers has forced his way more and more into Pardew’s side and has certainly shown that he has been able to step up to the mark of playing top-level competitive football.
To me, Sammy Ameobi is a completely different player to that of his older brother of Shola. He has a much leaner and taller frame than his brother. He operates more as of a left-winger than a striker and he has shown that he is not afraid of taking players on.
From what I have seen of this lad, I have been very impressed with the skill he seems to have. He is definitely making the right moves by playing the way he is and that has been rewarded with a contract that ties him down to the summer of 2015.
In the home game against Everton, when Sylvain Marveaux came off injured, many expected Hatem Ben Arfa to come on but Pardew showed his is not afraid to put his trust into Sammy Ameobi. The England U21 international showed some very neat skills for the duration that he was on and had the measure of Tony Hibbert and was not afraid to take him on. He holds the ball up very well it just seems to stick to his feet when he goes on a dribble.
Ameobi Jnr has certainly not gone unnoticed elsewhere, as he was called up to the U21 squad and then made his bow against Iceland. This is great for the lad as he has been recognised by both his club and country.
Sammy Ameobi spoke to the official website about his delight of signing a new contract: “Since I have been young it has always been my dream to play for Newcastle. It has been an amazing last year for me, making my first-team debut and being involved in the squad. I love this club and would love to stay here for years to come.”
It is very clear that Sammy Ameobi is delighted that he has signed a new contract at the club and is does truly cap off a fantastic year for him.
Alan Pardew added: “We are delighted that Sammy has signed a new contract. He is a player of huge potential and talent, and it is always great to see homegrown players come through the system at the club. We have already seen glimpses of what he can do, and we hope Sammy can go on and make a real impact at Newcastle United.”
Certainly the England U21 international has made a huge impression on Alan Pardew with the displays that he has made so far and he has been rewarded for his efforts.
I expect to see a lot more of this youngster both this season and beyond!
