Sammy signs on

Sammy Ameobi goal

Sammy extends his contract
Sammy Ameobi has become the latest highly rated youngster to commit to the club after he signed a new three-and-a-half year deal yesterday.

This is very welcome news with recent shenanigans that have befallen on Newcastle United.

Since Ameobi’s appearance in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge he has grown in leaps and bounds. The youngster scored his first goal during the friendly at Darlington during pre-season where the fans chanted ‘If Sammy scores we’re on the pitch,’ which duly happened where the game was delayed for ten minutes whilst the pitch was cleared. Following on from that he scored his first competitive goal in the Carling Cup second round against Scunthorpe.

Since then the youngest of the Ameobi brothers has forced his way more and more into Pardew’s side and has certainly shown that he has been able to step up to the mark of playing top-level competitive football.

To me, Sammy Ameobi is a completely different player to that of his older brother of Shola. He has a much leaner and taller frame than his brother. He operates more as of a left-winger than a striker and he has shown that he is not afraid of taking players on.

From what I have seen of this lad, I have been very impressed with the skill he seems to have. He is definitely making the right moves by playing the way he is and that has been rewarded with a contract that ties him down to the summer of 2015.

In the home game against Everton, when Sylvain Marveaux came off injured, many expected Hatem Ben Arfa to come on but Pardew showed his is not afraid to put his trust into Sammy Ameobi. The England U21 international showed some very neat skills for the duration that he was on and had the measure of Tony Hibbert and was not afraid to take him on. He holds the ball up very well it just seems to stick to his feet when he goes on a dribble.

Ameobi Jnr has certainly not gone unnoticed elsewhere, as he was called up to the U21 squad and then made his bow against Iceland. This is great for the lad as he has been recognised by both his club and country.

Sammy Ameobi spoke to the official website about his delight of signing a new contract: “Since I have been young it has always been my dream to play for Newcastle. It has been an amazing last year for me, making my first-team debut and being involved in the squad. I love this club and would love to stay here for years to come.”

It is very clear that Sammy Ameobi is delighted that he has signed a new contract at the club and is does truly cap off a fantastic year for him.

Alan Pardew added: “We are delighted that Sammy has signed a new contract. He is a player of huge potential and talent, and it is always great to see homegrown players come through the system at the club. We have already seen glimpses of what he can do, and we hope Sammy can go on and make a real impact at Newcastle United.”

Certainly the England U21 international has made a huge impression on Alan Pardew with the displays that he has made so far and he has been rewarded for his efforts.

I expect to see a lot more of this youngster both this season and beyond!

  1. Any truth in the rumour he was fined for tweeting about his new contract? If so, seems a bit harsh on the lad

  2. Great to hear , hopefully he can kick on now and push for a starting spot in the first team. Hopefully a few others ( Vuckic Fergieetc etc ) will make the break through as well!

  3. Great news this. Got high hopes for Sammy. The lad has talent and isn’t afraid to use it.

    Colo next please πŸ˜‰

  4. Absolutely fantastic news about sammy. his confidence is amazing… needs to get on the weights though πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜†

About the man city game – what about santon at LB and ryan taylor on the RW… or just a straight swap for Santon onto the RW… can he play there? As he has obvious defensive capabilities he could fit into that make-shift wingback role as guti and ober do already. 😎

  5. Nobby………..NNnnoooooooooooooo, I wouldn’t interfere with the back 4 at all…..ooer missus 😯

  6. Way off thread but neverthless, eeeneresting……

Virgin Money chief executive Jayne-Anne Gadhia said the company’s goal was to expand the overall business and promised a β€œlong-term” commitment to the region – although the Northern Rock name will disappear.

She also said the company would love to talk at the β€œright time” to Newcastle United about sponsoring the club, while stressing nothing was currently planned.

  7. i don’t know why i’m so nervous for this game… i really never expected a win so the pressure should be off.

    i just love breaking records.

  8. Sammi starting??? That would be insane. I suppose we have guthrie to go on the right but i prefer him in the middle… that brings me onto – – – are we flooding the midfield with 3 and leaving ba up front? or are we sticking ben arfa on and going for it???

    THE STRESS!!!!

  9. Anyone hear Pardew on TalkSport Wednesday morning?

Apparently with the players doing so well it may have changed their transfer strategy in January. What a shock!

These excuses are getting earlier and earlier now.

  10. Nobby… even if the Toon are not expected to win, it’s still a reet downer if they lose……plus the nerves maybe because you get worried about getting a right thrashing 😯

  11. Why insane? He was chosen as 4th choice winger to come on when Marveaux came off. Santon, & Raylor were available to switch as was Gosling. AP chose Sammi. Sammi Delivered. AP will start him as he has demonstrated he can cope. AP does not swop things round for reputations. If you’re next in line you get your chance. deliver and be rewarded. The team will be the same as started last time with only like for like replacements where necessary, eg HBA for Best,Sammi for Marveaux.

  12. Have you’s read what Pardew has said about Barfa and De Jong?

Apparently De Jong offered to come to the Toon hotel before the game and Barfa said – y’alreet son, I’ll catch ya after, aye. Pards backed him up by saying he didn’t want his players shaking hands before they go into battle.

This is war. I love it!! TOOOOOOON ARRRRRRRRRMY!!! 😈

  13. prem

when sammy came on against everton he had a really good game going forward but he hasn’t got the defensive capability to cover Ryan Taylor and play in that wing back role that guti has played all season. Ryan Taylor could get found out at LB without someone with a decent defensive side on LW to cover him.

I’M NOT SLATING RAYLOR – he’s done very well but he would have found it a lot tougher without Guti and Sammy can’t offer that. Only my lowly opinion πŸ™‚

  14. Toonsy @25 it’s testament to Guthrie that that doesn’t really bother me as much as I thought it would.

  15. i think tiote could have played tomorrow – if pushed – but they want him kept for man u… we genuinely could get something from there.

    I’d love a win… 1st time since 1974 or something?!?!

    (Have a word nobby)

  16. actually saying that – after we beat the mackems 1-0 earlier this season i put a bet on with worr lass’ old fella that we’d finish above arsenal. that’s still currently on the cards!!!

(have another word with yourself nobby)

  17. Nobby – Arsenal’s next 3 games = Norwich, Fulham, Wigan.

I’d be surprised if they’re not ahead of us after that, never mind the end of the season. πŸ™

  18. I feel we’ll lose our unbeaten streak 2moro, a tinge of sadness πŸ™ .

I wish we had a full team to give them a good game, still could but with tiote out i feel they’ll have the edge in midfield. hopefully I’m wrong..

2-1 to City for me πŸ™

  19. I think our tactic should be to try and win as many free kicks as possible and see if raylor can get them owa the waaalll! 😎

  20. Army isn’t obertan oot with a gay toe or something?

    That’s what I’d dee!

  21. Well done to Sammy, deserved u21 call-up and new contract.

Nobby, totally agree with your line up. The way Pardew has been talking it is like Ben Arfa is 90% up to speed.

  22. can anyone think of a song for HBA?

He’s got one of the hardest names to sing… it doesn’t really rhyme with anything.

All i can think of (to the tune of the outhere brothers – boom boom boom)

BOOM BOOM BOOM – Hatem Ben Arfa – ARFAAAAA!!!!
