Game on! Manchester United v Newcastle – Obertan starts ot Old Trafford

A tale of two United's, but only one true one.
Welcome one and all to the only place you need to be as we take on Manchester United this afternoon, unless you’re at Old Trafford of course. Or a pub. Or tied to Cheryl Cole’s bed…

Anyway, we’ll give you everything you need to get you through the match. There’ll be team news, updates provided by fellow bloggers, links to streams (hopefully) and, you never know, but perhaps a few goals to celebrate aswell as a decent result at the “Theatre of Dreams” or so it’s nicknamed.

The reality is that it’s going to be a tough ask to get anything out of the game. Manchester United have a habit of finding top form against us, especially at Old Trafford, but they also have a habit of playing below their best and still getting the results. This is something that they’ve done in the league ever since the 6-1 drubbing from Manchester City.

However I’m quietly confident that we’ll cause them problems, in much the same way that I’m confident that we can cause any team problems. The one thing we have to do is finish any chances that come our way and if we can do that then we can perhaps get something out of the game.

As you may be able to tell, I’m fairly pessimistic over our chances for the match. I generally count a trip to Old Trafford as a ‘nil pois’ on any prediction that I have and generally it’s been proved to be spot on over the years. In fact it’s been nearly 40 of them since our last victory at the home of Manchester United. Another decent performance will do for me although I wouldn’t turn down a point, or three!

I think that is just about enough rambling from me anyway. Fortunately Shamrock has penned one of his fantastic match preview articles which you can read here . Admittedly it was up a bit late but that was my fault for which I apologise!

Stream details will be found in the ‘comments’ section below and team news will be added at the bottom of this article as soon as it becomes available.

  1. if you remember i said a few weeks ago precisely this:

Lose against the rich twats, draw against the horse poo and win against the rich but not-as-rich-as-the-rich-twats.

    chelsea – watch out!
    get the **** in!!! 😈 😈

  2. Dave..aye 😉 😀

At least the scum will be able to try and get revenge on Wigan next year in the championship 😆

  3. I agree that Krul was magnificent. I said last week 1 or 2 points from ournext games was a possibility. I now think we could possibly get 3 points next week, but 1 will do.

  4. When that little ******* Hernandez scored, I was ready to get my commando gear out and hunt the **** down..

I’ve never felt as nervous as this in a long time hanging onto that…phewwwwwwwwwwwww..

Can someone tell me how Rooney didn’t get at least a yellow card..

For me, he should have seen red for that attempt at kicking Colo’s colon out of his body and for the shove later on.
He’s a time bomb waiting to go off.

I knew would lose a player but never did I think it would be Jonas …I thought Guthrie at first and so did Pardew lol….then I thought cabaye..

That is as good as a win and it doesn’t come any nearer **** your pants than that.

    Alan Pardew’s black and white armyyyyyyyyyy…wahoooooooo 😀

  5. Well played, what a team, what individual defensive performances. Simmo off the line. Bodys & blocks everywhere. Great. AP planned that well.

      (Quote)

  6. MM @ 306 I find it strange that the ffans would expect the players to think they can win, but they don’t have the faith that they want the players to have

      (Quote)

  7. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew: “We had some Geordie heroes. A brilliant display. We showed we can compete with one of the best teams in Europe. We looked a bit edgy after their goal and it was all hands to the pump. Ferdinand played the ball – it was fortunate for us. We have a resilience in this team. We closed them down and made it difficult for them. We did very well. We were absolutely superb. We’ve shown we a good side. Next week – against Chelsea – is a platform to show we can beat a top Premier League side.”

  8. Love the way the pressure is on all the other teams to prove our results are a fluke, Chelsea will be feeling it next week. HWTL

      (Quote)

  9. ST – He didn’t have a plan today though. Despite setting the team out in a way that restricted them until a double deflection opened the scoring for them 😉 🙄

  10. Wolfie @ 309, I know what you mean, gave my steering wheel a bit of a thump when I heard that on five live, lucky the airbag never went off!

      (Quote)

  11. My favourite bit of Pard’s Plan was how he got Simmo to tease them with that last ditch goal-line clearance!
Yeah me too @317, it’ll be interesting to see whether it gets any coverage at all on motd, that joke of a yellow for cabaye could’ve have hindered us more as well as he was pulling out of tackles after it.

      (Quote)

  12. Cornish-Magpie, I’m still shaking now lol.
Toonsy, I think the plan was a simple one and it was ,do not allow them time to get into a stride, which for most part in the first half we did brilliantly and in my opinion we were the better side in that half.

The second half was touch and go until we lost Jonas and then it was simply do or die, backs to the wall, kill or be killed, no retreat no surrender, death before dis-honour, bayonets out, no more ammo mentality, where Man Utd where on a charge of the light brigade and we stopped it .

Don’t ask me how we done it but we done it….we only bloody done it Rodney 😆

  13. kin ‘el….not bad, in one and a half seasons young Timmy Krul has become a 15 million pound goalie ! The young lad was immense today, what a hero !!…along with the rest of the lads too of course…!!

      (Quote)

  14. fergie must be looking at the two goalies today and scratching his head how the hell he paid a fortune for De Gea

      (Quote)

  15. I don’t care what anyone calls me for saying this but Tim Krul ,for me is in the top 3 keepers in the world.
Biased ?, you bet your life I am but I don;t see many better do you ?

      (Quote)

  16. @LACEDAEMONIAN: We needed luck to get a draw but needed a plan to do anything better. Even you have to admit Pardew is not a reactive manager

      (Quote)

  17. Wlofie….you cannot see any better goalies cos you got your black and white goggles on the neet man !!! 😆 😆 😆 😉 😉

By the way, I agree with you 100%…. 😆 😆
Can anyone remember us EVER having such a great young goalie ? Not me like… …seriously…. The bloke is immense…

      (Quote)

  18. @ Michael12, you can only be reactive if you are losing, or drawing a game you expect to win.
Of the 5 times we have been losing this season we have pulled it back 4 times.

      (Quote)

  19. Dublin & Bright on Final Score thought Rooney might have got a red for his kicks at Colo. Vidic brought down Ba from behind – no yellow. I’ll take the dubious penalty to even it up.

      (Quote)

  20. Fergie is not being respectful he might be annoyed but behave with some decorum, spoilt brat, could describe as worse but might get banned

      (Quote)

  21. Michael12 – I think we had no chance of getting anything but a lucky draw tbh especially without Tiote. I thought we were trying to contain Man Utd and force something on the break or from a dead ball. Until Jonas walked they never really pressed us for any length of time.

Rooney should have went early doors which would have changed the game massively. Their goal was hand ball imo. How Fabio was never sent off for repeating at least two offences that our players had been booked for?

      (Quote)

  22. Michael 12 you are off your trolley pal. 👿
What more do you expect ffs.
Of course YOUR plan would have been soooo much better. NOT.
    What a ****.
We have got some key players out and the rest are playing out their skin.
If you cant see we are playing some very good football, then there is something wrong with you.
    Get a life. 😳

  23. WHY??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? has no one talked about rooneys incident?? the fat b astard should have been sent off kicking colo!!!!! then benny got yellow card??

what a peformance by our lads , im sooooooooooooooooo proud of us!!!

looks like sammy will play next week if gutierez is banned!!

how long is gutierez banned for??

alex fergusons chewing gum was gna explode in his gob , what a tool

  24. excellent result from the toon 2day. under the cosh large parts but it just shows we’re no pretenders getting the rub of the green, we mean business and we’re playing excellent football.

hats off to Raylor, so glad he started he had some great clearances.. give Simpson a contract he deserves. While we’re there give Krul a massive deal coz he’s got to be one of the best keepers in the prem, if not the best atm.

Colo needs to be secured too. We have an excellent team that can only get better..

well done the toon, totally made up

    HWTL 😆

      (Quote)

  25. Munich, I’ve never felt as confident with a keeper as I do with Krul, plus a well drilled back-line I might add.
Today I would have happily noshed Krull off in front of my pals and not felt ashamed because he deserves a good nosh off someone that cares. 😆

      (Quote)

  26. Ha Ha Bruce “cant remember his keeper making a save, yet they lost”.
If he had made the saves then they wouldn’t have lost. 😳 😳 lol

      (Quote)

  27. @wolfie

all this gay talk, and the craic the other night about honeyboys and dress’ etc has got me thinking you live in the closet….

although i would agree he deserved a nosh 2day, not by me but I would of watched 🙂

      (Quote)

  28. If the FA look at the Rooney incident, I think he will be banned but I won;t hold my breath.
If he had connected with Colo, we could have been looking at Colo being out for months with busted ribs, or worse.

      (Quote)

  30. We would certainly have won that if Pards had only had a plan!

As for the penalty, Ferdinand won the ball but then followed through and took out HBA who could have caught it because Ferdinand did not get a strong enough touch on it.

You know you’re doing well when Fergie’s giving the chutty six nowt, tapping his watch, and running down the stairs.

  31. fegy says he doesnt know what math pardue was watching aftter pardue said we were the better side in the first half , what a ******

  34. Michael12… you know absolutely NOTHING about football.

What would you have liked pardews plan to be?…
it seemed our plan was to go wide (mainly via obertan)

obertans crosses were much better today by the way – see – he’s coming good!

      (Quote)

  38. Demba said he doesnt want the No:9 shirt. I say give it to magician Barfa.

If we do sell Tiote I would give the full 25mill to Krul on top of £200k per week as he’s mint 😆

      (Quote)

  39. Dont forget bthe free kick they got brfore their goal was an obstruction bt pea on STaylor. I think ferguson might have a chance of playing next week. has everyone forgotten him ❓

  46. Tim Krul is a world class goalkeeper, simple as, i only saw the last 10 in pub after work and some of the saves he pulled off were simply phenomenal, Saylor was again king of the blocks, and danny simpsons stop on the line underlines why we had the joint best defense in the league until hernandez’s opener. toon toon black and white army c’mon, still in top 4!!!! YES!!!
