Pardew – Contract negotiations rumble on at NUFC

Pardew speaks again...
Pardew getting frustrated with contract negotiations
Alan Pardew has admitted that the club are no further forward in the race to secure players to new contracts.

Deals for Fabricio Coloccini and Danny Simpson are being eyed although this latest admission doesn’t bode too well with the January transfer window coming up.

Pardew believes that negotiations are proving difficult thanks to the great start to the season the club have enjoyed. He claims that it raises the expectations of players and agents which is making life hard when it comes to the art of contract negotiation.

“As a manager I want my captain to be secured, they all seem to rumble on at this football club,” Pardew told the Northern Echo. “Hopefully we can strike a deal with the three we’re talking to.”

“I’d like to keep all the players here because they are doing terrific, but with success comes high expectations from the players and agents and we have to cope with that.”

It seems to me that the only contract negotiations that rumble on at Newcastle are those that involve senior players. Put a young lad at the negotiating table and a five-year deal can be signed, sealed and delivered in the blink of eye, but put a senior player there and it seems to be a whole different kettle of fish.

I mean lets look at the form book here for a minute. It doesn’t bode well does it? Whatever the circumstances of Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan and Jose Enrique leaving the club, and regardless of whether or not we’re better off without them, the fact remains that none of them could agree a new deal with the club. In fact it’s that predictable that I was shocked when Jonas Gutierrez agreed a new deal a few months ago.

Now I’m not privvy to what goes on behind the scenes. I don’t know what is going on with all these contract negotiations, but it is getting rather worrying is it not? Time will tell, but the longer these negotiations rumble on the more concerned I get, especially with January just around the corner.

I can live without Simpson, even though I think he can play a part for us. With Colo I’m not so sure though. I just hope the club realise how much it would cost to acquire another defender of his quality and weight that up when they start crunching the numbers.

  1. Something seems to of changed because he’s just said this in his press conference; #nufc AP on contracts: “Talks have progressed with Colo and Danny Simpson”

  2. Not that i’m on twitter but lee ryders just tweeted that TIOTE is out again for fux sake
    👿 👿 👿

  3. Maybe Pards is pulling a fast one over Mike and Derek and is pretending all these players are injured so we can get some more through the door! 😆

  4. Batty – Carroll was never, ever class.

Torres on the other hand – well that is a mystery?? 😕

That sounds positive at least – wish they would get it sorted though. With Guthrie and Tiote out of Norwich game then looks like Abeid and Gosling might get a chance (maybe Vuckic)

  6. So then… off the top of my head:

    Marveux
    Saylor
    Tiote
    Guthrie
    Coloccini

These all can’t play this weekend…. Depressing news indeed. Can Gosling and Abeid step up to the mark?

    I effing hope so. ❗ 👿

  7. Tiote’s agent has said that he wants Champions League football next season, not money or club, or fans just wants a new challenge. Seems to be par for the course for the overseas lads.

  8. Gadga – Then why the f**k did he sign a 6 and a half year deal with us then? 🙄

If he doesn’t want to stay around and help US achieve that then Tiote can f**k off.

  9. Abeid for the CM role maybe? or do we move to a 3 man midfield and have Cabaye-ober and jonas, with Ba best and HBA as forward 3?

  10. Why did Tiote leave Twente if Champions League footy is what matters to him?

He’ll do well to get it with his nobbly knees 😆

  11. I think Tiote signed to give him an increase in wages but also give him and us wiggle room when the inevitable bids come. He will be able to demand higher wages, we can demand an inflated fee. The way of the world ATM. Nothing to do with buy them cheap sell high its pure sense business wise. Look at Arsenal with Cesc, Nasri, Anelka, Henry etc. Sell at the right time

  12. oh well here is the team for me on sat if colo is fit

    simpson colo perch raylor
    obertan gosling cabaye gutierez
    ba benny

  13. Army – if you’re going to start without a keeper at least stick another outfield player on 😉

  14. Army there is noway Colo will be ready and if he was picked we would risk loosing him for months imo.
This is the time to find out if Santon is the player he was, as if he doesn’t get a shot I fear for him.

  15. I see Guthrie is out of saturdays game now. No offence to Norwich but the state of our injuries at present will give the fringe/ younger players down the squad a chance to prove themselves and give AP the chance to assess them at the same time.

  19. Georgio, I think it Guthrie a long side him.

    A team of;

    Krul
    Simpson Perch Coloccini R.Taylor
    Obertan Cabaye Gosling Jonas
    Ben Arfa
    Ba

It’s not exactly the crisis people are going on about, it just mostly hinges on Colo being fit.

  20. It’s not a crisis – but not far away. Colo, Tiote, Saylor, Guthrie would all be in my first team.

      (Quote)

  21. Yeah, I know what you mean but if that is the team that walks out at Carrow Road, two injuries in your first XI is just the same as the majority of clubs around, we are no different.

      (Quote)

  22. georgio – guthrie would be in your first team with tiote so does that mean you would drop cabaye?? 😀

      (Quote)

  23. cab and tiote are our strongest center midfield but guthrie is good cover up!! we defo need a holding midfielder in jan!!

      (Quote)

  24. al tell you 1 thing – obertan needs to get his finger out next game mind , his lack of effort against chelski was poor !!

      (Quote)

  25. We have non footballing people in charge an we all know how much messing around and going back on word they do when it comes to money and contracts !

I believe agents also dont help the situation but our owners and exec to me seem a bit relaxed overall and can annoy the fans with what seems like a simple process when we are doing so well

      (Quote)

  26. Army – i don’t think its his lack of effort.. i think he puts effort in – he just doesn’t have the skill!!

      (Quote)

  27. What’s the official word on Tiote’s injury like? Faking to make sure he is ready for the team that bids 20-25 million for him?

      (Quote)

  28. Someone posted on here yesterday (think it was Tony Greene or Tommy Gibb) that they reckoned Perch and Simpson would play as our CBs, with Santon drafted in at RB – keeping Raylor in the LB position. I’m sort of agreeing with this.

Guthrie out is a massive blow, FFS, what’s going on!?!

…can’t really say I didn’t expect to be hit with injuries at some point, but got to admit I never expected anything quite on this scale! **** the bed.

  30. Rod, Gosling or abheid can cover that position of Guthries and although Guthrie has been decent, I don;t think any of those two will let the side down.

Abheid comes with a lot of promise and so does Santon, so amalgamating those into the team won’t be shell shock especially with the games we have coming up.

It’s all about team mentality and not about any individual….If we work together as a team we have a fighting chance of coming through Christmas in a brighter state than we all would probably guess.

Centre back positions are a massive blow I know but I’m sure Perch and whoever else comes in will die for the cause and you can’t ask for more than that.

Remember, we as a club have had centre backs that looked quality and yet we got tonked many a time, so I’m not panicking over emergency measures just yet….

I’ll wait and see what mettle they all have after the Norwich game, which will give me a better understanding of how we can come through this dodgy period.
