Bolton 0-2 Newcastle – Match highlights and managerial interviews

Some rather high quality and fairly extensive highlights for you now as Newcastle piled the pressure on Owen Coyle and Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok yesterday.

Goals from Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba gave NUFC a deserved win I think and put an end to a run of six games without a victory.

Meanwhile Alan Pardew was suitably happy with the three points at a ground where we tend not to do so well, especially on Boxing Day. He was happy with how Mike Williamson played in particular after an injury lay-off that stretched back nearly four months and urged fans to go and enjoy their cold turkey as a treat!

Meanwhile Owen Coyle was left to bemoan the self inflicted nature of the defeat. Both goals started from sloppy from his own players but to be honest I’m not too bothered about that. Obviously…

Howay the lads!

  1. Scrooge Coyle, hasnt given us any credit and its good to see him being interviewed with a face like a smacked ****, revenge for last years mauling at their place when they were guilty of a lot of play acting and general **** taking.

  2. Got not time for Coyle. None at all, even when Bolton were flying high last season.

For some reason the media saw something I didn’t. They lauded a young manager who got his team to play football. I never got that as Bolton played the long ball quite frequently, and still do!

  3. Well….wor Demba made Cahill the big England / Chelsea hope look pretty sick for the second goal. Howay the lads !

Two quality goals by the toon, the first one especially, great play down the left by the lads, and what a great finish by Hatem !!

  4. The ball from Cabaye for the second goal was class. Technically it’s a long ball though. Doesn’t bother me, but some fans seem bothered by it 😉

  5. Toonsy…Coyle and Kean at Blackburn will be sharing a park bench together soon reminiscing about the good old days. Bolton are gash, lost almost all of their home games.

Coyle gave us no credit at all, even after winning the ball back from their poor defending, we still had a lot to do to put the ball in the net. Seemed like the Bolton left back was terrified of Obertan’s pace, great pass from the lad for the second goal… Sheareresque finish from Demba…bundled the ball in there..

  6. Cabaye opened up the play brilliantly for the second goal. We’ve been missing that vision in recent weeks… 😉

  7. I wonder what we can get at Liverpool? They have been up and down this season and apart from Sunderland they are THE team for us to beat this season with old timers Carroll and Enrique in need of a downer after leaving us for “trophy chances”…

  8. Looking forward to the Obertan / Obertan challenge. Obertan can silence a lot of his doubters with a good performance against Judas2.

  9. “Looking forward to the Obertan / Obertan challenge”…think Obertan may come out on top there 😉

  10. Thought Obertan was much better yesterday and it will have done his confidence a lift, on the negative side, Best was minging again.

  11. I suppose one thing in Best’s defence, is that he has nuisance factor, and is one more big man up front for the opposing defence to have to keep an eye on, which maybe makes Demba’s life a little easier. Pity Best’s finishing is gash at the moment. We all know that Pardew will stick with him though, that’s Pardew’s style.

  12. Anyone else think we are a striker, a winger and defender away from really being a v good team?

Watching the game yesterday it was fairly evident that a bit of class would win it and now we dont just have ba but HBA, cabaye, even obertan who had a great 2nd half.

WE should have beaten west brom and swans and could be sitting 4th now!
ACN will break us but if guths is back we shouldnt miss tiote as much and after vuckic great game we look okay there. But replacing BA we need a new striker who carries a wave of confidence straight into the team….

  13. LIAM… 2-3 players in with no one going out, and yah, then we can certainly make a solid chalenge for top 6 with a chance of something even better. We wont be wiser about how far we can go till this time next season though, Bolton had a great season last season and Fulham and Stoke have been up there as well. I wont say we need to keep hold of certain players, because our scouting team have shown that anyone can get replaced and no one last forever anyway. But we need to keep going with our great scouting and perhaps even build on it if possible and then get more good players in than we lose… It will be interesting to see if fifa can do anything with those financial fair play rules as well, there might be some clubs who will suffer from those if they can impose them without any loopholes.

  14. Read loads of comments bashing Best over the last few days – don’t understand it one bit. Same folks who bashed Ba when he started too.

He is decent player all round. Pardew also says he is the best finisher at the club – lay off the lad – he is as honest a pro as you get.

  15. I agree Coyle is very overrated as a manager, but in fairness to him, if he had have came out yesterday and said we deserved the win, when they are right down there, he’d be collecting his P45 on the way out.
We looked heaps better yesterday, thought Willo looked solid after having so long out.
I don’t know if they have been working with Obertan but he seems to have turned a bit of a corner, improving game on game and seemed to enjoy it yesterday. I always think you can tell a players attitude when they celebrate goals and he was loving it yesterday (wonder if that was coz it was away and the boo boys stayed at home)
Best was disappointing yesterday, his decision making and shooting was way off, I don’t think Shola would have done much better though unfortunately. Just running through our attacking options when Ba is away and Sammi may have done better than Best but great to see HBA come on and look good

  16. Best didn’t have a good game yesterday. His first touch was woeful at times. But to be fair to him I think he retains the ball well and links up well with Ba.
He may come into his own again when Ba goes to the ACoN.

  17. Is it just me who thinks Vukic isn’t all that? there’s been so many comments regarding how good he played against west brom but he didn’t. Vukic & Tiote were both poor & one of the main reasons we lost that game. Two off target shots doesn’t amount to a great game.

I’ve seen nothing from Vukic to suggest he should be ahead of Guthrie & Gosling (assuming they were available to play)

  18. Witters… He was played out of position mate, it would be like putting Ben Arfa in central midfield, they are both way to attacking and belong in the hole beind the frontman, so yah Guthrie ahead of him in the position anyday, although im not that sold on Gosling as i think he has been poor when i have seen him… That said Vuckic might not do great as an attacking mid neither, we shall wait and see, but he is still young so lets back him and hope he ends up being a great player for us.
