Newcastle 3-0 Man Utd – Highlights, interviews and full match download links

We have some extended match highlights of the rather superb 3-0 victory over Manchester United last night for you now.

Enjoy it while you can I’ll say. It’s the first time we’ve beaten Manchester United in over a decade and to do it so convincingly and actually deserve the win was a joy to behold. Have another look.

As a little bit of a bonus I’ve tracked down the full 90 minute download of the match. I used to do it for every game but the site they came from went missing for a bit so I stopped looking. It’s back now though so if you want to download the entire match and watch it at your leisure use the links below.

First half
Second half

Just click the big green ‘download’ button that pretty much smack you straight in the face. You’ll have to wait 30 seconds for the download to start but after that it’s just a matter of time and you’ll soon be in possession of what was a very impressive win for us.

Now I realise that there are little bits and bobs of the post-match interviews in the highlights at the start, but below are the full ones. As always we’ll start with the Silver Fox that is Alan Pardew, who had annoyed some fans with his team selection prior to the match.

Meanwhile Sir Alex Ferguson was suitably complimentary about Newcastle. To be honest given the way that his side was outplayed and outmanoeuvred by Alan Pardew’s men.

The win has certainly put a smile back on my face. To a man we were excellent and fully deserved the victory. The sad thing is that this is the last we’ll see of Demba Ba and Cheik Tiote as they jet off to Africa. We now have two home games in which to build on this game and if the players who are left can’t take confidence from it then there is something wrong.

Howay the lads! Blackburn next.

  1. Looks like the £20 million deal may be right:

fantastic performance last night – we were better than them all over the pitch and the score didn’t flatter us. Santon looks real class and Ba was unplayable. Must admit was surprised Raylor started on the right but Pardew got it spot on.

  2. Thought Howard Webb had a good first half for the Mancs but faded in the second half when he realised his beloved team weren’t gonna come back. 😀

It’s a bit early to be thinking of this but i genuinely am already looking forward to next season.. IF… we hold onto our decent players, get rid of the dead weight… and get a couple of cheap Graham Carr specials in.
I’m not joking when I say this but we could even try a push for 4th , we’ll probably end up in 5th or 6th but to be in the race will get my juices flowing (oo err) 🙂

  5. I think he did the best he could – the crowd were ready to tear him apart at one point. Biased toerag. They should be glad they didnt have another goal past (penalty) and red card for Ferdinand.

  6. What a result and a performance- a perfect new years start. Everyone was incredible last night but Ba has to be signing of the year, closely followed by Cabaye. Consider that we got both of them for 1/10th of a Fernando Torres.

Ashley must see that we need to get quality additions in now and strengthen while we are doing well and have a chance to maybe even finish top 6. That’s what all the top sides do-they don’t wait until they’ve started to decline they continue to strengthen as they improve.

Then again I’m looking at this from a football perspective which is not always the same as from Ashley’s viewpoint.

  7. Hitman….I couldn’t make it as I’m in Spain….unless you mean Ashley, in which case he was at the bank withdrawing £35m for Pards to spend in January 😆

  8. Did you notice the applause Ba got when he went off. I’ve not seen that since Shearer. Cabaye got a massive one as well (applause…. not ****).

I wish i was at the ‘Howay 5-0’ game back in 1996. Apparently phillipp albert was at the game last night. I bet that brought back some fond memories.

was anybody on this blog at the 5-0 game in 96? I watched it on the telly as a teenager with my mate – who was a man u fan!

  9. Nobby – probably the loudest noise the crowd made all night n rightly so. Strange but i thought I heard a few muffled boos when obertan came on which if so is definitely bad form.

  10. Heard rumors that Carroll has been asked to hand in a transfer request…his old agent said it.

  11. Tsunki… with regards to the boos… I thought I did as well but i thought my mind was playing tricks as I was listening out for boos 😕

  12. Great match, we were all over them on the link I used. 😆
Then saw Match of The Day, we were lucky to get the win. 😕

      (Quote)

  13. Nobby – thought so, which isn’t fair he might not be much cop at the moment but he at least tries. I know he wasn’t on for long last night but he gave himself a good workout, chased everything including paper bags and had a sensible passing game without losing possession. More than can be said for Perch, who I am not sure whether he doesn’t try or is just generally clueless. Wouldn’t boo him though, can’t be proper fans who do that to their own players.

      (Quote)

  14. Franky….just had a mate from UK phone and tell me the same, if he wants to return to Toon he has to put in request, of course that would make no difference unless Liverpool will sell for £2m 😆

      (Quote)

  15. Richie – Could be some truth in it then mate. Would anyone take him back just to cover Ba? I’m not sure personally.

He hasn’t looked good at all at Liverpool, and with all the **** of him leaving last year would he even be the same if he come back here?

      (Quote)

  16. I can’t help but think taking Carroll back would be a bad move, if anything came of it of course, and I don’t think it will.

The lad is out of form and the team is no longer set up for him in the same way it was last season. There is a saying “never go back”….

      (Quote)

  17. I don’t think it’ll happen either, but I don’t think I’d be pleased to see him back in a Toon top.

      (Quote)

  18. I thought it was an outstanding performance last night and a credit to the team spirit and the will to fight on all fronts.
One thing I like about Pardew is , if a player isn’t ready (Arfa) to be thrust into a blood and guts encounter, he will leave him out and not be swayed into it by anyone. That’s the sign of a good manager who will play to the strengths he believes is needed at any one time.
Remember…this league is a horses for courses league and as we know, teams like Man Utd will come here believing it’s their 3 points, basically underestimating our Armoury.
When you have a group of players like ours who you can see clearly they want to play for that shirt, it gives you more than a fighting chance against ANYONE.
Naturally, we as fans have to be patient though and not get carried away thinking we can just expect the team to just go out and beat anyone , on the back of this great result.
Horses for courses means that other teams that come here will come with the shut up shop mentality and hit on the break when afforded and it’s up to us to break that down.
Against Man Utd , we knew they were here for the spoils and to put to bed their Blackburn nightmare at Old Trafford so we knew they were going to come at us.
The beauty of it though was, we had exactly the same mentality and were lying down for no one and played it perfectly, tactics wise, nullifying most of their threats and basically getting on them like a rash when they had possession.
All in all, it was a fantastic win and a great night of football where we deserved the 3 points 100% and the score didn’t flatter us because we deserved it.
I think any Man Utd fan will hold up their hands, including the players and manager, that they were soundly beaten by a better side on the night.
What we can’t afford to do, is rest on our laurels and think we have done the hard work in looking at our next fixtures because we know how easy it is to take things for granted and be stung for it.
The upside though is, I think this team has learned a hell of a lot this season and Pardew will have them fully believing that they aren’t just there to sit outside of a Europa spot but he will instill that they can(if they desire) push those above them without worrying about what those below us will do.

We all know a little bit of fine tuning is needed and we all know the ACON loses us our influential players but the sign of a good team is being able to combat that and batten down the hatches and stay solid whilst also bringing to the fore, those players that Pardew deems able to deputise in their absence.

Results like this breed confidence and playing like we did sends a message out to those waiting in the wings that they have to step right up to the mark if they want to stamp their own authority on the team in the absence of any regular.

All in all, it was a fantastic result and all credit to everyone who played their part in it. 😀

  21. Franky/Toonsy…don’t know if I’d want him back either, but regardless of that and whether he put in a transfer request or not Liverpool would still want a canny wedge back I’d have though……AC to 5under1and anyone? 😯 😉

  22. Toonsy, I detest Carroll for what he done but if he came out and said he made on monumental mistake and wanted to come back on a set wage and also for a 10 million fee, I’d have him back in a heart beat because he would be an asset for a number of reasons.
Firstly, I think we would get a rejuvenated Carroll back to where he belongs meaning he would bust a gut to win back the fans he deserted, plus his aerial power is a bonus, not only offensively but defensively as well.
Also he is capable of battering defenders into submission and rarely gets into the referees bad books.

It would be almost like Liverpool have paid us 25 million as a Christmas present. 😆

On the other side of the coin though, I wouldn’t be bothered if he never played for us again but my mindset is simple….If a player gets signed or re-signed, then that player becomes a Newcastle United player and will get my full backing until proved otherwise.

If Liverpool get Bent, then Carroll will be surplus to requirements and unless Arsenal, Chelsea or someone of that calibre came in, I can’t see Carroll moving on and more than likely would sit his contract out.

The only time I could see him upping sticks other than that, would be if Newcastle came calling and he “could” hold Liverpool to ransom if he wanted to if we came in with a cheap offer 😆

Imagine the scenario… Liverpool want rid…no big clubs come calling….we come in with a **** take 10 million bid and Liverpool laugh and tell Carroll , “no way”, Carroll then says ” well ok, I will just sit out my contract”.

Liverpool would be forced into a rethink and think ” well we might as well let him go now or risk losing him for nothing later”.

Obviously it’s an extreme scenario but not beyond the realms of possibility and would depend on how homesick Carroll is. 😀

  23. I dont think Ashley has a buyer, but it would be a great time to sell wouldnt it?1

I dont think AC would come back and really not sure I would want him too, but Ba can play as a second striker so Ba and AC could play together. I just cant see Lpool taking the hit as we cant afford anywhere near the fee he would cost. And why sell now when Gerrard is coming back and will start supplying him? Mind you it has been a look into the future when Gerrards injuries finish his career

      (Quote)

  24. Funny…where are all those who wanted Barfa to start again and the other load of people who still say Shola is *****? Both Raylor and Shola were impressive yesterday imo, along with our whole team..

Not sure why we’re so inconsistent still, but hey, such a beautiful win over man u has already made this a great season

Interesting that pards also said that was our best team?… Its definitely our best back four, will Ober be dropped however?

  25. Batty@33, i did that years ago with my sons shirt and was given a tacky Blue Star stick on logo to cover up the Greenalls logo, your link says a sponsors update, not a new shirt.

      (Quote)

  26. Raffo, Gerrard will spend most of what he has left of his career on the injury table and is fine as a bit part player but I think the rigours of the game has basically rendered him a liability in terms of breaking down over a full match.

Personally, I think Andy Carroll will be secretly hoping he can come back and I believe his Liverpool love in wasn’t what he thought it would be.

    Two scenarios would suit me.

    1. we get him back for peanuts and a reasonable wage (doubtful)
    2. He ends up a journeyman failing at every club he signs for and ends up like Habib Beye playing for Doncaster or someone like that.

There is a 3rd scenario and that is, he could end up going right off it and end up banged up for something serious, non football related offences.
Basically he seems to have that David Roche mentality about him……Anyone remember him ?

      (Quote)

  27. I wanted HBA to start, and I think he would have ran riot in a 2nd striker role yesterday against a very clumsy and slow Ferdinand. But Pardew wanted the long ball tactic…which would isolate Arfa. Simple as that.

Shola never once looked like getting close to scoring yesterday, his only contribution was the flick-ons, he was fucking lazy again as well.

      (Quote)

  28. Robert…If I remember right, did the blue star not completely cover the greenhalls bit? 😆

  29. Evilfranky-The flick on one us the first goal, although it took a awesome finish, and his pass into Ba should also have won us a penalty. I’m not so sure we long balled it, I don’t remember our defence hooning it up to the strikers on every occasion? But from goal kicks we went route one-the best tactic seing as krul can’t really pick anyone out to pass to usually.

      (Quote)

  30. To be fair Krul’s kciking seems to be improving. I haven’t noticed any of the ridiculous straight out of play balls recently. Obviously this helped us loads yesterday

  32. Well I personally thought everyone had a good game last night, even Simpson! I wanted Barfa to start, but have to say Shola done well as his replacement. Pardew obviously wanted to have the physical edge, and it worked!

I honestly can’t believe how good Ba is. I thought he might be decent, but now realise this lad is something else. Holding the ball up, pace, positioning, accuracy and his first touch is class. Flipside of this though is he’ll now be attracting a lot of interest.

I thought Webb had a bit of a stinker, but to be fair he ****** up a few in our favour too.

Good to see Ryan Taylor finally playing in his natural position after so long.

Oh, and Dwight Yorke is a prize bellend.

Just seen on Sky Sports West Ham have rejected a 2.5m bid for Tomkins. I thought that was old news?

…wonder how much they want for him. I suppose they don’t really want to lose a key defender when they’re currently top of the table.

  36. I think I’ll give my analogy of the players performances as accurately as I think.

Krul….Didn’t have a great deal to do but what he did have to do he done it effectively, including spot on clearances up field and some timely interventions in punching and gathering the ball in the odd tricky situation. Basically he was alert and on his game. 8/10

Santon…. We have got some player here mind, he looks class on the ball going forward and when you consider he’s been a part of the team for 5 minutes, he made himself available for the ball and used it effectively, looking composed and generally comfortable. I thought he did a sterling job at the back too, even though the odd time he was found wanting because you can expect that from any player. Overall though I thought he was outstanding 8/10

Coloccini… Only once in the game was he ever in trouble but still done enough to put the forward off and Krull was there to mop up, other than that, he was outstanding and his reading of the game is second to none, definitely a calming influence on the backline and a confidence boosting Captain to boot. 8/10

Williamson.. Another oustanding night by a player that some fans said was championship material…All I can say is, if he’s championship standard, then the prem is universe standard lol… Williamson has came back in with only a few games under his belt and only just got match sharp, yet he puts in a commanding performance like that where he was immense in the air and steady as a rock on the deck and never looked troubled. 8/10

Simpson.. I was a little bit worried about him for the first 15 minutes because he done a lot of chasing and he looked like he had ran out of puff, which worried me… However, my worries were put to bed when he regained his second breath and motored on throughout the game and did fantastic as well as being on the line to stop a certain goal. ..The lad is a warrior and as I’ve said before, he does get better and better and even going forward, he seems to be gaining ground…8/10

Jonas… The lad ran his heart out and hustled and harried his way through the game…he does a lot of tracking back and although some question his ability to open up teams, I think you have to look a lot more into his game to see that he is an integral part of the hardworking work ethic we have as a team, plus he is not afraid to rough it. In time as Santon fully settles, I think Jonas will add that extra to his game offensively ,allowing himself the comfort of getting forward with more gusto knowing he is well covered by the no skillful, no slouch Santon. 7/10

Cabaye…What can I say about this lad… Midfield dynamo, exquisite on the ball, a terrier in the tackle, a pass master, dead ball wizard and can cover every blade of grass, absolutely outstanding capture for us and utter class with his all round game. On this form with him and Tiote, no midfield can match us… 9/10

Tiote… Steven Taylor said players look scared when he’s at them and I believe him because being up against him must feel like your on the beach in a wheelchair trying to escape from a pitbull 😆 ..He doesn’t know the meaning of the word give up and actually made Man Utd surrender along with Cabaye. His ability to hold the ball as well as turn on a sixpence is brilliant and on his day, his passing is bang on…immense last night…9/10

Ryan Taylor…Considering he’s been flung from pillar to post, this lad gives it his best shot time and again and obviously he’s not the most gifted in terms of pace and dribbling skills, he is a fantastic passer and did a sterling job down the right. Admittedly, he did try to do a bit too much at times and could have got us into trouble when on the ball in our half as well as having a few lulls in the game, ball watching and stuff but he can be afforded that and put in a very good shift I thought 7/10

Shola Ameobi …I thought he had a decent enough game in most part but I do question his……what appears to be a lethargic looking stance or the sharpness of his brain.
He was put into some great positions but seemed a yard off the pace and mind to do anything about them but his header onto Ba for the goal was brilliant and he did contribute to causing them problems, I just wish he had that little bit more zing in him. 6/10

Demba Ba… Top notch goal, top notch play…cause Man Utd no end of problems not only in their area but also running at them and also on the break. Best performance I’ve seen from him and I say that because of his overall terror he bestowed on Man Utd’s defence. His footwork is fantastic, in-fact he is what you class as a complete striker. For this reason he gets a 10/10 from me.

    Subs…
Perch….Came on for Cabaye and done what he had to do and done it no nonesense. I know many don’t trust his play but he’s a very good back up I think and covers many positions when called upon. He didn’t disappoint and done what was asked.

Best…..I though he got in Man Utd’s faces and put himself about very nicely and held the ball up well at times and cause Phil Jones in clearing the ball into his own net…a decent contribution for the time he had.

Obertan… Came on, ran a bit and ermmm, well aye….well what else can I say lol…. seriously though he had no time to even merit a saying but I thought I’d include him anyway. 😆

Referee Howard Webb….I can only class him as a cheat when circumstances allow it and he definitely a biased referee but luckily we played such a great game that any influence he tried to bestow onto Man Utd, we rendered null and void……However, he turned down our stonewall penalty because Ferdinand would have walked so he wasn’t going to allow that but that was a 100% penalty and had it been at our end, he would have awarded it. Basically I can’t stand the *******. 😀

      (Quote)

  37. I think the Barfa thing is obvious, and makes total sense. Here’s what Pards had to consider:

    1. Serious bruiser of an encounter with Man-U on Wednesday, with CBs known to be vulnerable to big attackers and aerial balls.
    2. Cup game at the weekend against huge DBs (e.g. Samba) who win in the air but aren’t very mobile.

The decision is obvious: go with big lads on Wednesday and let Cabaye and Tiote do the carpet football needed to mix it up and provide an alternative to the crosses and long balls. Then at the weekend switch to a quick, passing game. That attacks the weaknesses of both teams while rotating key players.

Benny will be important against Blackburn. Pards knows what he’s doing.

  39. Agree with your analysis there Wolfie, although maybe a tad harsh on Shola. On Cabaye, he’s a hard little fecker for his size! Quality.

Really enjoyable game. Jones’ own goal was hilarious. Deliciously tasty topping to ice a mouth-watering cake of football.

    yumyum 😛

  40. Aye ROD, I was a bit harsh considering it was an amazing result but I tried to not let my heart rule my head and just thought Shola looked a bit lethargic in mind and ability although he did contribute well enough. I suppose I have to take his age into account and his past injuries.
It’s a shame he didn’t possess that yard of pace extra because he would be a total defenders nightmare.

      (Quote)

  41. @59 – Couldn’t they tell it’s Shola from the fact that he’s not moving? 😆

  43. I don’t think Shola pulled the trigger at all last night (correct me if i’m wrong as i’m just going off memory) which is a shame as he does actually have a decent shot on him once it’s on target.

    Champions league in 2014 anyone?

      (Quote)

  44. Shola’s always ‘looked’ slow Wolfie, even when he was younger and had a bit of pace. I used to stick up for him and say he moves quite quickly, just looks slow by optical illusion cos he’s got long legs. His strides are slower but he takes longer steps so it evens out. 😛 😆

      (Quote)

  45. Shola looks like he’s been taking “rests” in the pie storage room. Someone who knows about conditioning needs to have a word.

The skills are still there, though – he did a job when it counted.

      (Quote)

  46. Where are the tools that posted on the match thread yesterday saying Pardew didn’t have a clue and they weren’t watching the match!

Unbelievable performance, tactics and line up were both spot on.
Ameobi might get slated for some performances and he isn’t the most talented but his contribution last night can’t be underestimated, he won the flick on for the first goal, and helped win the freekick for the second by creating space for the defenders to run into.

Sometimes just the presence of what a player could do is enough to make defenders work, look at Arsenal on Monday, Walcott and Gervinho played cr@p but when Wenger took them off the defenders didn;t have to worry about what they could potentially do and pushed forward.

Also Ba plays better with a striker next to him. End of. Ben Arfa has a month to show he can play as a second striker otherwise risk having the embarassing tag of ‘Shola’s backup’.

HUGE shout out to Simmo, he still doesn’t offer as much going forward as the likes of Enrique but i have barely noticed him the last few games, and there hasn’t been any moaning about him which means he is doing a solid job and not making any mistakes as well as that INCREDIBLE stop on the line last night.

      (Quote)

  47. NOBBY, you are correct, he didn’t pull the trigger.

As for champions league in 2014, stranger things have happened and I think we are building one hell of a strong unit.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we can’t do it this year although obviously it’s a massive long shot but football being what it is , you just never know.
Naturally I wouldn’t expect us to be anywhere near it in terms of points but I always hold out hope that we can achieve it.

The main thing is, we are performing in a such a way that I actually feel comfortable in how we go about games.
A while back I always saw us collapse when in winnable positions but now we nearly always look resolute.

      (Quote)

  48. I thought the real difference last night was Tiote. He’s been pretty awful since coming back from that injury, but was absolutely superb last night. Perhaps that’s what we have to expect from him; just longer to spin back up after time out. Can’t have everything, eh.

Any transfer news worth mentioning, anyone?

      (Quote)

  49. Wolfie – I agree with that, but I think we need to temper things a bit:

    1. The ACON is about to take a serious bite out of our bite, if you see what I mean.
    2. We’ve been lucky with injuries so far, compared to previous years.

I think CL is very much on the cards for the season after next, and may be the official target in this much-vaunted ‘five-year-plan’. You can damage a club with premature success, so I expect the targets look something like:

    09/10: Promotion
    10/11: Stay up
    11/12: Top half
    12/13: Europa spot
    13/14: CL spot

Half term report is good.

      (Quote)

  50. Sky sports.

Mike Ashley has handed Alan Pardew 25 million to spend and told him to carry on the good work and to bring in his targets to sustain the solid foundations that the club now stands on.

Pardew is said to be “delighted” with the transfer kitty as he has the players identified to really push this club forward.

The 4 players Pardew has identified will stiffen up competition and add to the recipe for a successful future.

Ashley remains defiant in his quest to make Newcastle United into the most successful club since the 50’s and is so focused on it, that he will stop at nothing to make sure that this club continues to buy and breed the future stars to sustain a constant fervent push at the top and be known worldwide as undeniable quality.

  51. WHUMPIE, I’d be over the moon with what you put and we have solved the first part.

I do agree about losing some bite but in the short term it gives either new signings or fringe players the chance to really up their game and stake a place, knowing what they have to emulate.

I just have one hell of a great feeling about this club, not seen since Sir John Hall took the reins.

I just think , this time it’s gonna be better because we aren’t rushing in like fools into dangerous territory that we cannot sustain.

Big bucks can buy you some success but to keep that sustained it requires even bigger bucks because it sets a trend.

We are setting our own trend in our own fashion and it’s clear to see that however it’s been done in the background, it’s clearly having an extreme positive effect upon the players, management and the club as a whole. 😀
