Pardew planning for the future with transfers

Padew coy on transfer talk
Alan Pardew insists that Newcastle United are committed to strengthening the squad in this transfer, although he also insists that the goal remains long term on Tyneside.

Any new players will fit the club criteria and will not be over the age of 26, and some may even be young enough and rough enough to not even command a first team place straight away.

Pardew uses the slow introduction of Davide Santon as an example of what he means. Santon was given time to settle and integrate on Tyneside before football even came into the equation, a move which has paid dividends according to the manager.

“If you bring in a foreign player there’s the language barrier, they have to settle,” Pardew told the Sunday Sun.

“With Santon, he’s been able to do that without worrying about playing because he’s been on the bench, but I was really pleased with him in midweek , against a top side. His passing, everything about him. He’s a good player.”

“The new person who comes in might have a similar start. I can’t envisage bringing in a player who will go straight into this football team, if I’m honest. That doesn’t mean to say I’m not going to bring anyone in.”

Alan Pardew also insists that he is relaxed about the transfer window and that any new player will have to fit the group of players we already have which includes the mentality of the player. The message is simple – the team is the most important and not one or two individuals.

“The player coming in will certainly be under 26. I’m quite relaxed about it. We’ve got a good group of players and I’d like to bring in a player. But you want to bring in a player that fits into the group, because you don’t want to spoil what we have here.”

“I look at Santon who has had to be patient. He came into the football club for a big fee and didn’t moan, got on with it and got on with his work. Now he finds himself in the team and understands what we’re about.”

Steady away seems to be the order of the day and it would appear that Newcastle have no intention of abandoning their transfer philosophy despite the cracking start we’ve made to the season.

That is a subject for debate in itself but to be honest I can see it from both sides. No doubt the club and some fans will be thinking that the philosophy hasn’t done us too bad when you take a look at our league position whilst there will be others who acknowledge that but also would perhaps like to see a bit more of a leap of faith in the transfer market.

What do you make of it?

  2. The first should be not to sell any of the key-players. If you can make good buys on the market lika Cabaye, then well played. We shouldn´t buy a player for the sak of buying on. That´s nonsene. The fact remains though, we are weak in defence when Saylor is out and Perch is back-up for Iron Mike and Colo. We should also have a quick striker like Shane Long but i guess christmas is over =)

  3. dont like to admit it but ashleys plan is much better than shepherds who nearly bankrupted the club average players on massive wages who didnt care about nufc now we have a young hungry team with a pride to wear the shirt my only concern would be if we become a nursery club for the so called big clubs hope we sign a striker and centreback 😆

  9. At least Chris Foy is consistent – ” ***** ” for everyone, what an awful referee and he has spoiled what could have been a cracking game, Man City will complain but could you imagine what it would be like if the same decision had gone against ManU?

  10. Im still in two minds at the moment on how the club is being run, on one hand you have to say so far so good, and Ashley is obviously adopting the arsenal model. However, the one thing the arsenal model has proved is that although financially sound it is not sustainable over a period of time, and they are no longer making progress. The premiere league is simply too competitive not to invest!

  11. Troy,
I read two articles, one was about Tiote to Man City in 25mil deal, with Bridge in part exchange.
The other was Krul to Man United in a 12mil pound deal.

  12. Aye but Arsenal get in the Champions league every season which is success in itself.

I don’t believe we can get to the CL under Ashleys model. Arsenal broke into it well over a decade ago when there was only the big 4 .
They’ve never been out of it since.

The Toon blew their chance when they starved SBR of funds in his final full season and resulted in us failing to qualify and ultimately his sacking.

There are 6 big teams now competing for 4 places and to break that stranglehold, Ashley has to change his policy.

The best we can ever hope for is Europa.

  16. Paul Scholes looked really lonely on the bench when the game started…. obviously the ref thought he needed some Kompany 🙄

  17. With Tomkins not in the West Ham squad it looks like his move to us could potentially be making progress. I hope so. 🙂
If Pards wants a young striker to emulate the sort of form Ba has, here I am. 18 in a couple of weeks, already had surgery twice on my right knee due to cartilidge damage and will play for not a lot of money… 😆

  24. would rather play a premiership or championship team at home our record against lower teams aint so good 😐

      (Quote)

  25. Agree with Poolie, i’d sooner have us drawn at home against a lower level top flight team rather than have to travel to a lower league ground, always a potential banana skin. Plus there’s no shame in going out against a PL side, getting dumped out by a team from the lower leagues could affect the momentum we’re starting to build again.
