Pardew For England – Seriously?

Padew for England?
Interesting news on the horizon that Alan Pardew may be under consideration for the England Manager’s job when Fabio Capello finally cashes his last cheque after the European Championships.

What a lot of people fail to take into consideration is that managing a National team and managing a “Premiere” League team are two completely different animals.

With his previous teams Capello could just pop out and throw a few million at a striker here, or a midfielder there and he’d end up with a team that had an even chance of winning silverware – Harry Redknapp is just the same.

A National Team manager’s squad is dictated largely by Passports and Parents. He doesn’t get to go out and just “buy” the best players available.

He doesn’t even have a budget.

He basically has to take the best of whatever was born in a particular region and try to make it work through hard work and motivation.

So, taking into consideration that he has bugger all in the way of budget at Newcastle, and with Ashley only willing to pay bus fare to the North of France for his scouting team, then it sounds like Pardew is probably just the bloke for the job.

Well that didn’t turn out the way I thought it would.

  1. Maybe its because I have no affinity towards the England Football team. But I don’t see why Pardew would want to leave Newcastle for England.
Surely he feels he is building something good here. And well, England sucks balls… 😆

Toonsy – wheres this thread you where talking about that was gona blow our socks off? ❓ ❗

  2. why not? to be an international manager you need to be an excellent man-manager and a top tactician – both of which Pardew is

  3. It depends on his values, really. Everybody knows he’s doing a great job here, but whether he really feels an attachment to the club or the region I don’t know. Managers aren’t really good or bad in general – it’s the combination of manager and club. He clearly works well within the strategy and structure that Ashley’s set out, and hopefully if someone does come in for him he will realise that he won’t necessarily find the same fit elsewhere.

Same problem as with players, I suppose – the inevitable consequence of success is people want your people.

  4. Why not? Beacuse the majority of England fans want Harry Redknapp. If he’s available then he’ll get the job. The only way anybody would have a chance is if Redknapp gets found guilty in Court, which probably wont happen.

Pards’ record is not actually that impressive pre Newcastle either. He has had half a good season with us. I think the bloke is great for us, but he’s not had a long run at managing and being successful with a top side yet, so he’s not going to get the England hotseat.

  5. All points taken, but wouldn’t it just be too much of a temptation for Pards to resist?

    Wonder how much it pays?

  6. Personally I think the England job is for old men who don’t have the inclination to work full time, it’s almost a semi-retirement job therefore I’d rule out Pards

  7. So is the long ball game acceptable now, as long as we are winning games?

Maybe they need to get Ben Arfa some platform boots

  8. Archie: ouch! 😯

Redknapp is a perfect fit for the England job: totally amoral, corrupt and open able to get good results out of a field of egotistical twats.

    He should do well.

Agree that Pards isn’t a good choice this time around; it’s too early for him.

  9. JJ – Think you have a point there mate – Pardew’s a bit of a hero up here at the moment. Why would he want to leave?
Suppose he’s qualified in so much as he’s multilingual

  10. Just getting over my hangover from yesterday!

    I knew I had overdone when I threw up at 6am! 😯

The England job is one that Pardew could not turn down surely. Its about looking back at the end your career and if you can say you’ve managed England then you know you’ve been at the top of your game.

I think he will be the favourite when it becomes available.

  11. Games Shola has come on in last 20 minutes or so this season.

-Wigan 0-0. We go on to win 1-0.
-Spurs 1-2. We go on to draw 2-2 and he scores.
    -Villa 1-1. Nothing changes.
    -Swansea 0-0. Nothing changes.
    -West Brom 1-2. Finishes 2-3.

    Cup –
    -Forest 2-2. We win 4-3.
    -Blackburn 0-1. We win 2-1.

Meanwhile, from 6 starts he has 2 assists, including against Manure recently. We won 3 and drew 2 of those, losing 1.

Dont forget he is 3rd choice striker. The team does well with him in it so stop moaning!

I agree he is no Bellamy, or even Pavlyuchenko – but when we get a new striker he’ll be 4th choice and will be useful as such as he is now.

    Right i’m off. 😯

  13. Aye Robert, a big London job’ll turn up soon – at Tottenham!
Whumpie, do you think they’ll let ‘arry manage England from inside? If not, he could always manage the nick’s team!

  16. Lesh – images of The Italian Job come to mind. ‘Arry, in smoking jacket with a long cigarette holder, mincing down the iron staircase to the applause of the cons after masterminding another victory from the confines of his cell.

    Disturbing. 😯

  17. Pardew would jump at that-mega bucks compared to his currrent pittance from Ashley.
We could always get JK back at short notice.

The lure of managing your own country to the highest distinction proved to be too tempting, hence we had no choice as his head was turned. We wish him all the best in his new job. Kinnear and Wise are shortlisted as potential candidates to take over the helm.”

  20. I agree with Troy 😯

For an English manager it doesn’t get much higher that managing England. Just because I happen to think the team is full of jumped up tossers who don’t give a flying fuck about the country, it doesn’t mean that to some it’s not an honour.

      (Quote)

  21. Troy

An honor it might be, but it certainly doesn’t mean they’ve reached the top of their game.
Sometimes it just means England has reached the bottom of the barrel.

  22. A scary prospect Whumpie though the Italian Job wasn’t the one I was thinkin’ of. Thoughts of Porridge with ‘arry as Mr Grout manipulating a Fletcher type team coach! Either’s a real possibilty though and given that….

  23. By the way, now that we’re back among the top six does that mean we’re a big club and Ba and Tiote could be on our radar as transfer targets?
Maybe Jose and Carroll might be influenced too?

  24. This was obviously discussed yesterday and I still think Pardew would be a good England manager, but one thing has dawned on me since.
Pardew is one of the lowest paid managers in this league, and as much as we want new and improved deals for the players I really hope that Pardew is rewarded for the clubs achievements as well.

  25. Lesh – On that point, I had to chuckle earlier when watching Sky. For weeks now they’ve included Liverpool in the title race. There is no way on this green earth that they are going to win the damn thing, but because they’ve been in the top six they’ve tagged along. Foolishly I though now that Newcastle had overtaken them we’d be included but it’s still Liverpool. Why? They have the same chance as we have of winning the league 😕

      (Quote)

  26. Toonsy…as someone said yesterday, the “top 6” on Sky etc has suddenly become the “top 7” just so Liverpool can be included 🙄

  27. Just checked on the Spanish league.

Real are 5 points ahead of Barca.

If Jose pulls this off then it’s an incredible achievement.

    Great manager.

  28. Toonsy, Richie you’ll have noticed that the media does its level best to avoid mentioning us in a positive way. I include the scorers chart and how it stopped just above our highest. However, Demba’s put a stop to that so far.

  29. Lesh…it’s nice to get praise but to be honest, I’m quite happy they for them to ignore us.

Troy….Agree, and hopefully they can maintain that lead so they’ll be in a position to be able to afford lose the league game v Barca and still win the title……they play each other in the 1st leg of the cup in 2 days 😀

  30. Lesh, that’s got to be the beauty of being a Toon fan – the rest of the country can’t cope with us being half decent

  31. On the England manager topic , i don’t think they will offer Pardew the job and while most people think it is going to be Arry , i reckon Roy Hodgson could be the surprise choice . Lets face it , he has a better CV than arry and would possibly be a cheaper choice in terms of compensation to the club , don’t think he will be on as big a salary at west brom as Arry is on at the spuds . One thing is for sure , whoever gets the job it needs to be an Englishman to start getting the fans interested in the England team again .

      (Quote)

  32. Aye, as long as the England manager is English and unbiased geographical wise then I’ll start taking a full interest in the team.

  33. Toonsy – Liverpool have that killer instinct though. They are capable of going on a big run. They have players that can change a game in an instant. They have only just Gerrard back. They have tradition. Bla Bla Bla.

6 months into the season and they are in the same position as us – No fooking chance of winning the leage OR getting Champion’s League football.

It must be all that European football they are playing taking it’s toll on their league matches…. 😆 – Living in the past.

  34. why would anyone want the england job?press on your back wanting to pick the team no day to day contact with the players every fan thinking he is better than the manager as for pardew his stock is rising and no doubt the press will link him with any job that comes up as we all know newcastle doing well means anything to upset the apple cart 😈
