Newcastle eye Danish international defender

Okore in action for Denmark
Newcastle are keeping an eye on F.C. Nordsjælland centre-back Jores Okore, according to reports in The Mirror and Daily Mail.

Alan Pardew and Co have been watching the 19-year-old ply his trade in the Danish Superliga, but they aren’t the only ones as Liverpool and Manchester United are said to also be interested.

Okore has made 33 appearances for F.C. Nordsjælland and has established himself as a first choice defender under their new manager. Born in Ivory Coast, the defender moved to Denmark at the age of three meaning that he has dual nationality. He has chosen to represent Denmark at international level and is already a full international having come through the youth ranks at both club and international level.

Other than that I don’t know an awful lot about him and I’m hoping some of our Danish readers can fill us in. His Wiki page describes him as a “capable and aggressive defender, who is calm on the ball and a good reader of the game, with leadership qualities” which sounds fairly decent but beyond that I haven’t got a clue.

What I will say is, look at the picture of him. At 19-years-old he is already a beast and will only develop further as he “grows up”. Madness.

It will be interesting to see if we make a move for Okore. He fits the blueprint of the club, is highly-rated, and wouldn’t cost the earth which sounds as though the deal is right up our street. And it would sort our defensive crisis out. Get it done before close of play tomorrow I say!

What do you make of it?

  1. Well I think we’ve got the watching thing down to a fine art now.
Any chance of actually buying one or two of these players though?

  2. Who knows if it’s true. 😕

I’m still waiting for us to spend another £15m in the next 2 years as Wolfie says. 😛

  3. He’s brilliant, not sure if he’s ready for Premier League yet though.

But one of the brightest talents in the Danish league right now.

  4. Oi Oi Troyore, any updates on Tiote & Krul. Have they already passed their medicals etc as its a done deal 😉

I think he’s getting a good nights kip, good on him 😀

  6. Newcastle United midfielder Alan Smith has joined League One side Milton Keynes Dons on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The 31-year-old has spent four-and-a-half-years on Tyneside since signing in August 2007 from Manchester United, and has made 94 appearances for the Magpies.

Despite being part of the squad which was relegated from the top flight in 2009, Smith played a key role in getting Newcastle back into the Premier League at the first attempt.
However, Smith has found chances hard to come by this season and has been limited to just two substitute performances – against Fulham back in August, and away at Norwich in December.
So the former England international has joined Milton Keynes on a temporary basis and will be available to make his debut when the Dons face Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

As part of the loan agreement, Smith will be available to appear in the play-offs, should Milton Keynes – who are currently fifth – remain in the top six.

Oh well, Hope he can do well for them.

  7. Would be a great signing.

Also, I am really hoping RVP gets a ban for his elbow. Would really give us a great chance to puch on and go for the 5th spot as he is their only goal threat

  8. I reckon if Demba Ba goes in the summer, we just keep going Senegal 😀

How do you rate Dame N’Doye?

  10. Alright lads? ❓

Sh*t weekend wasn’t it? 🙁 Absolutley gutted we’re out the FA cup. No end product cost us in the end. I genuinely thought we’d have a good gup run. Simmo wants shooting for the goal, you can’t blame williamson for it – i feel bad for him actually as he scored an OG last year in the FA cup as well.

You have to hand it to Brighton though – they numbed HBA out the game and efended really well. If we had scored first that game would have been over in the the first few minutes with Bests 1st shot.

So so pissed off that we’re out 🙁

      (Quote)

  11. Nobby, the didn’t numb HBA out the game, he just played ****…

If you are being triple marked like he was it means that that defenders are not covering other players, which means, instead of trying to beat them all, which he did. You need to pass the ball quickly and exploit the space.

He is way too selfish as a footballer. Hopefully when Demba and Cisse are back, he will have more confidence in the other players on the pitch and actually pass to them because there will be some movement up front.

  12. Oi oi Tigger 😛

Tiote is getting his medical today by my great uncle, the witch doctor, Shamen Shona. I’ve just been on the phone and he’s preparing his magic potion of newts testicles, rhubarb leaves, chimpanzees faeces and snakes feet. 😯

    Flutter flutter, boing boing, 😛 😛 😆

  13. Well he has only just started to be a regular for fc nordsjaelland this season, but has had a meteoric rise, and got his debut for our national team in the fall. Think he has the right tools for the pl, he has surprisesingly good speed and an okay touch on the ball for a cb. Dont know if he is trådt for the pl yet. I cant help but think of the last cb from the superliga to make the switch to pl. Winston reid of west ham, think though the championship is doing a world of good for him.

Jj – re n’doye defo think he could hack it in the pl, he is physically dominent, fast and great shooting/heading. Playing with loads of confidence for fck and Senegal.

      (Quote)

  14. I think it will be anyway so lets have parity. Tiote will be back soon and we can cover Cabaye alot easier than they can cover RVP. He is important but RVP is critical to the Arsenal

      (Quote)

  15. I can’t believe how many good strikers Senegal has, but they have no good midfielders and defenders.

Bouboukar is also supposed to be the next big thing in Italy. Think he’s 18.

      (Quote)

  16. Good point JJ… didn’t look at it like that.

    I’m still gutted though.

Oh well… onwards and upwards. Hopefully we’ll see Ba and maybe even Cisse on wednesday. We need a few goals to cheer about and as Blackburn have a better run of late we need to put them back in their box. 😈

      (Quote)

  17. JJ@13- Spot on ,i was shouting at the t.v , C’mon man there’s 3 on ya pass it out theres gaps all over the shop. Sometimes the simple things seem beyond even the most talented players eh. 🙄

      (Quote)

  18. @JJ

I agree that HBA did play **** and it’s becoming common place. He has saved his reputation from the vultures by scoring some brilliant goals whilst doing little else.

However, I believe he has to be given a full season before we properly judge him. I know you are only responding to Nobbys defence of him but we need to be patient with him. Barfa not Nobby.
    😛 😛

      (Quote)

  19. Ohh yea Jores Okore can cover the full back position if needed. Actually right back was the position un his debut for the national team. Also fc nordsjaelland is a team which likes to play along the ground and is good with young players, so his pedigree is second to none.

      (Quote)

  20. JJ-Again agree , he must think it’s a waste of time passing to Shola or Best , either that or he’s very selfish. Best is the one that puzzles me the most as he’s obviously a good scorer of goals as proved in the past .I wonder if he’s gotten so used to being provider for Ba that he’s lost his preditory touch/ strike ,just a thought.

      (Quote)

  21. @Trot
I agree we need to be patient with HBA, but my concern is he turns 25 this year. Its not like he’s a talented teenager who is still learning the team game.
He should be reaching the prime of his career and he should know these things by now.
I hope he can, but I honestly don’t see it happening. Personally, I would swap Ben Arfa for Hoilett any day of the week.

Fack it! I’m going to write an article on it and see what people think…

      (Quote)

  22. @troyore, can’t your witch doctor Shona put Tiote in some kind of hypnotic state and convince him the future is black and white? Oh well looks like him and Krul are gone, I’ll dearly miss them both.

Ben Arfa is the player I’d sell, not sold on all u Barfa fans, yeah great individual goals but his general play keeps coming up short. get rid I say and use the coin to keep Krul here..too late for that tho 🙁

      (Quote)

  23. that’ll be one controvertial article that JJ.

The amount of people that hang out of HBA’s hoop is phenomenal. 😯

      (Quote)

  24. I say give Benny till the summer or maybe next Jan and if he’s still not playing as a team player sell him on. Never thought i would write that as he’s a little gem but he needs to pass when his options are all closed to him and right now he’s not for what ever reason. Maybe this is what Pards was seeing in training and why he was not putting him on from the start and just bringing him on for impact late on .

      (Quote)

  25. @JJ 😆 hurry up then!

I’d rather play Benny from crossroads on the wing than Barfa, whos at a crossroads with his career 🙄

      (Quote)

  26. Wow guys. Short leash for ben arfa huh?? What has he played? couple of handfull of games??

  27. Off topic but it now seems it was true about Carroll being offered in a swap for Tevez. He’s come out this a.m and said he wants to stay at Pool and fight for his place. Christ he must be feeling so unwanted right now .

      (Quote)

  28. I Think this would be a quality signing for The future. But don’t expect him to be at Premier league level within this season.
Okore is a player i have followed tightly for a year, in hope that my favorite Danish side FC Copenhagen would buy him.
He could be as good as Agger i Think, but a different type of defender tho.
    Max realistic price 2-3 mill.

  29. Danishtoon@33 -Very interesting ,so one for the future then.Do you think he want’s to come to the PL then.

Then tying up and summer deals for
    Douglas Teixeira
    Tanquilla Barnetta
    Erik Pieters

now who have I missed ??

  32. @APP

I think the problem lies with Barfa fans who drool over him.

This brings a reaction from those who dont accept he’s playing well.

Simple facts are, the skill is there and he needs time to adjust to the PL before we make huge judgements one way or the other.

We need to be patient just like Barfa needs to be.

      (Quote)

  33. Well said troy. Was just abit put off with some already talking about shifting him out 😕

  40. Arfa didn’t play that well granted but he was surrounded by utter ***** on Saturday. He was excellent for the first half against Fulham, he had a good performance against Blackburn in the cup scoring a great goal which was the catalyst for the rest of the team. He done pretty much the same thing against Bolton, starting and finishing a move (pretty sure that is team play?). It’s obvious to me that he has started to track back more and attempt to help out defensively but he isn’t a defensive player and never will be. He was vital in the draw against Man Utd causing problems in and around the box and winning a penalty for his trouble, a game we would have lost.

I think his progress has been decent and steady since getting playing time and will only get better with better players around him. Then you lot are talking about selling him, unreal.

He hasn’t even played the same amount of games as Obertan yet he has been completely clueless and you have given more support to that tool than Arfa.

How about writing an article about the complete failings of both Simpson and Shola during Saturday’s performance? Shola is a fucking awful awful player and well past being even slightly useful. The Man Utd home result doesn’t hide anything for me, that was a tactical victory all he had to do was get his head on to a few punts up field and play the flick on.

Brighton’s first goal, Simpson got completely done and just stood there as the Brighton player got forward with ease. The fucking ref was right on top of Danny getting done and then RAN back up field quicker than Simpson did! I actually think the ref matched the Brighton player for pace! Simpson was in no mans land for the goal, awful.

Not surprised Benny didn’t want to play the ball, he had a better chance of taking on all 3 markers than anything positive coming from playing back to Simpson cos he was utter ***** during that match.

  41. @Trot 😆

havent wrote him off m8, I view his skills like you do but don’t see where he fits in now or 2moro when our two strikers are back. I’m a reality kind of guy m8 thats all 😉

      (Quote)

  42. Can’t believe the stick Benny is getting, yeah the last 2 games havn’t been the best but has anyother player played decent in them 2 games ?.
Be interesting seeing his stats I think you might find that he’s got a better goal to game ratio than the 2 strikers we have had the joy to watch.

  43. Alright lads sorry to go off topic a bi but catching up at the mo.

Went to the brighton game on sat and have to say it wasnt as bad as everyone has made out.

It was sickening and embarassing but sat with my mates in brighton end 🙁 but they were suprised at how we controlled the game for the 90 as this is brightons forte. We did control just lacked a clinical player. HBA had an off game for him but when hes on it he wins us games.

Was impressed with perch but he didnt have that much to do. Ameobi wasnt horrendous he won flick ons etc but best was poor.
The sooner ba and cisse are back th better im afraid.
We missed tiote aswell. He just marshalls the defence and protects it so well which guths cant not by trying its just not his game.

Its a shame but onwards and upwards.

On this thread …just another boring link im afraid

  44. Troy, are you quite alright man? You’ve never made so much level-headed sense in yer life!

Give Barfa time; he’s already shown he can change his game as instructed (much better defending recently on AP’s request) so get off his back. And yes, he was a big part of the shiteness of our attack on Sat.

As for this Okore fella, I really like the sound of him – very much a Carr kind of player if all this heresay is true. Not sure he’d be more than competition and backup for Williamson for the rest of this season, mind. But if the club’s not found any value in the market elsewhere, I’d much rather go that route than return to paying through the nose.

    Ho hum. Still 6th.

  45. @the bouncing butterfly

I never wrote anything about Cabragas other than to say, stop jumping up and down about how superb he was playing in his first 3 games. I maintain to this day, his first 3 games he was off the pace but always statedhe looked a tidy player but wouldn’t judge him until he’s played more games.

Find one post different to what I’ve said above and I will show my **** in fenwicks window. 😛

      (Quote)

  46. I was quite impressed with Perch; I thought he and Willo were far better than I’d expected. I know it wasn’t prem opposition but Brighton’s attack was excellent at times and it still took a deflection to get past us.

Can’t say I’m all that upset to be out. Must be all the practice.

    6th!

Not at all. Not one post by me relates to me writing Fabaye off.

I was howling at the bouncing Tiggers saying he was the new Fabragas and told them to calm down.

Always maintained he was a tidy player but off the pace in his first 3 games. I was right.

After 6 games you will find I was complimenting him highly.

I love the truth and I await the post that I wrote him off.
