Game On! Tottenham v Newcastle

Game On at the Lane!
Welcome one and all to our rather fabulous ‘Game On’ article which this evening will take us through every twist and turn of what is set to be a tough encounter.

Today we visit White Hart Lane to do battle with Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur outfit but, unlike in previous years, there is actually something riding on this game.

Tottenham sit in third in the table and are looking to catch up Manchester United in second, whist we sit fifth currently – enough for Europe – and will be looking to consolidate that position. It won’t be easy of course, but at long last we have a team capable of springing a surprise result away at one of the “top” teams, in much the same way we did at Old Trafford earlier on in the season.

Anyway, there has been enough said about the match by others and I don’t have to go on about how tough it is going to be again. If you do wish to look at some more background information ahead of the match then why not check out Shamrock’s most excellent match preview or NUFC_stats’ Tottenham v Newcastle stat-attack by clicking here. They are both worth a few minutes of your time.

In terms of the match itself, it is being shown live in ESPN which is great if you can’t get to the match and fancy sitting in a pub or in front of the box with a few Saturday evening beverages. It’s also being broadcast on a lot of overseas channels so the chances of a stream should be pretty good, which is great if you fancy sitting in front of the computer with a few Saturday evening beverages… Once again, if you do stumble upon a decent stream then please feel free to share it with your fellow Magpies.

That is just about it for now and it’s up to the boys on the pitch to do the talking. Will they avoid some White Hart pain at White Hart Lane?

Howay the lads!

  1. best comment today was ” has llambsarse been sacked yet for gross negligence”
    I do agree with that.
There can be no excuse for not getting in the necessary players during the t/f window.
I hate the stupid owl heed
    bastid

  2. We always knew the run of games in jan early feb was gonna be hard due to ACON throw in the Cabaye suspension and it’s a recipe for disaster. Really expected a defender on loan at least ,we badly lack a guts & glory type player at the back now saylor out injured.

  3. I think the reason we didn’t strengthen with, say, a FB, a CB and a decent winger with a good assist rate, is probably because the regime didn’t have a fucking clue Pardew would get as much out of the team as he has.
I just hope this isn’t the start of a slide, because we’ve been poor in a few matches lately.
Hopefully we can cling onto a European spot and then, maybe, just maybe, Jabba will realise the potential the club has with just a few more quality players.

    BBC, are you ok?
Sounds like you’re about to start crying or something?
    😳

  4. Dave I am a negger too and there is nowt wrong with it. For me it is sensible to recognise your strengths and weaknesses and not just highlight one side

I knew we’d never make top four this season before this result. I’m more cocerned with an injury or two, we could slip out of the top seven…

  6. OK JJ – hope you have a good night chuckling to yourself about our defence. Whatever turns you on big man.

      (Quote)

  7. TC the difference is but I don’t agree with your views and I have never had a go at you or anyone else because of them. But I am constantly being critisized by you and others for being a ‘negger’ because I have a different opinion than you and others.
You say that you think he got thinks spot on this season ?? I think he made a mighty **** up by not getting the CB in that even he knew we needed. You think it was because the right one wasn’t available, well I believe it was because Cisse unexpectedly became available so we got him instead of a CB.

  9. never mind, one to forget. We need our midfield enforcers back soon and get the scouts looking for a new centerhalf. 😯

    still only 3pts

  10. when the cold light of day kicks in and we look at the the results only arsenal won today out of our euro rivals man ure and arsenal have took worse beatings than we have today we are seeing a funny season results wise we now have 2 weeks off to regroup we will have cabaye and tiote back we can take a good look at what went wrong train hard look at taking as many points out of our last 13 games see where we finish at the end of the season and hope ashley puts his hand in his pocket and brings in 5 or six players and lets a couple of fringe playersgo and we will move up another level imo 😐

  11. Bollocks. I put a £2 1/500 live bet on us drawing just after half time and then Adebayor netted a 5th 🙁

I definitely feel £1000 poorer after that performance…

      (Quote)

  12. Big Dave the centre back would have been back up to Willamson, no bearing on todays game, why are people talking about this now. Joke.

      (Quote)

  13. Nobby,
Todays result massively highlighted our lack in depth in defence. Because Willo and Simpson have no competition for their places, and if they or Colo get injured… We basically have no defence…

Did I really need to explain that?

  14. @314 Pootle

Ah yes good response to my objective winning of 5 in our last 7 games. Good work.

  15. Said on the blog last night we had to stop Adebayor which we did not do.Bit low at mo after that, never thought we would lose that bad.We just gave the ball away time and time again, felt we had real chance of kicking that back door open to the champs league tonite, poor all round perfomance. But would i of took being 1 point off champs league now in january dam right i would of took it,So chins up fellas wolves in 2 weeks time with tiote and caybeye back 😀

  16. Spurs fan again…..

Honestly that is the best we have played all season, we have been smashed this year 5-1 v city when we had a weakened team….games like this happen its why the league is soo great, you did it to Man Utd 3-0..

Just move on you cant criticize that team……one fan said it perfectly, we had 2 weak links last year RB and Gk, we went and brought in Friedel and Walker and now we are ten times better.

You guys need to sign a RB and a Winger and you will be a different team.

Amazing to watch as a spurs fan because we havent spent alot on this team just like you havent on yours…..Bale was 5mill, Lennon 1mill, Walker 3mill, Parker 5mill, Ekotto 2.5m, Saha free, not to mention our best player all season Younis Kaboul who cost us 5mill.

I honestly hope you guys finish 4th you aint any worse than those around you going for it

  17. will we start to slide??. ne chance. its one game and Spurs are a class team that were full of emotions coz of sloppy-chops. it was always going to be tough but at least we went with 2 up front and tried to win or it could of been 7-0 : 😯
next game 3 pts, back in business.

Just shows how weak our squad is tho, esp defence. ne options to change the game.

  18. Solano – NO pardew wanted a cb to slot into the team
    owlheed said “no no no.
you’ve got a striker that you wanted last season, shut up and make do”.
Feel sorry for Pardew, his hands are tied by that bastid good and propper.
    Profit before players

  19. @318 JJ
So if we had had a back up centre and right back on the bench today the scoreline would have been different ❓
I fully agree it was stupid not to get someone even vaguely resembling a centre back like Ridgwell etc by the way.
Just think the influx of moronic, unjustified statement on the blog these days is quite pathetic.

  20. Does anyone else think that Gosling is not fit or overweight? He was puffing like steam engine after 5 minutes. Full marks to Jonas who competed throughout and was obviously moved right to prop up Simpson. He tackled better than Simpson. Thought he might have brought on Ben Arfa for Cisse. Some fitness training for everyone I think.

You think it makes me happy to see our defence that vulnerable?!?! It makes me want to cry knowing all this good work could be undone due to neglect the flaw in the window…

If gives me no pleasure at all…

  22. @323 BB
Er no i think you’ll find Mariappa would have been back up to Williamson.
I agree that we should have signed a back up ffs! I just can’t understand how you are all saying it affected the result!

  23. i just wonder how our chairman can be seen to be laughing as we are getting slaughtered !??

  24. er solano @ 327
Pardew said he wanted a cb to slot straight into the team.
Not fucking Marriappa. QUALITY OR NO ONE.
    He got no one.
    Hence willo plays.
    Same goes for simpson.
Clearly we can all see we dont need back up players ffs

      (Quote)

  25. Solano
It’s not about today… It’s about the rest of the season.

It’s feels like we are driving a Ferrari we got on a great deal without insurance… We look all fantastic, but it just takes one thing to go wrong and there’s huge disappointment…

Don’t expect to come on a blog after a 5-0 defeat and expect everyone to be all smiles and cheers…

I’m still proud of the team. I’m just very nervous we are walking a tight rope for the remainder if the season, when it wasn’t nessessary.

    Is that his brief?
    Most likely 👿

  27. I’m not saying it affected the scoreline, but I’m saying this scoreline PLUS the neglect shows we are not Top 4 material (as some think we are) and 5th will be tough.

It would also be excellent if Spurs could carry this momentum and win the league. Good on them, it would be a big loss to lose Redknapp, he has a tough decision ahead of him.

No shame in todays result at all in my opinion and I don’t blame anybody. Next time out we have some big hitters back. Upwards and onwards.

Howay the lads. Night all 😀

      (Quote)

  28. @329 BB
Well you are arguing something completely different to everyone else. The general feeling i’ve gathered, and that i agree with, is that to not sign a back up centre back is dangerous for our season.
We have Taylor back next season there is a view that don’t need another 1st choice centre back.
As for replacing Simpson, that would obviously improve our team, as would signing two new wingers. One step at a time prevails though yeah?

      (Quote)

  29. BB – You confuse me lad. You agree about Llambias and lack of cover, the point I made earier – but you call me a ******** for saying it?

    Ah well. Signing off.

  30. Dudes – listen to Jay @ 321 – thee guys talks a lot of sense and he has no reason to kiss our hoop. **** me if I was him I’d probably be rubbing our noses in it!

      (Quote)

  31. SolanosTrumpet @ 316 we didn’t want or need a back up to Willo we wanted ands needed a 1st choice CB.
IMO Willo was partly at fault for atleast 3 goals so how would it not have made a difference ❓

      (Quote)

  32. SOLANOSTRUMPET
want ya meant to say we will have taylor back next season for about 10 games then mark my words he will be puting his feet up for the rest of the season likes hes done the last 3 seasons having him as a main player puts pressure om ya defence cause hes never bloomin fit 🙄

      (Quote)

  33. Ah well JJ I agree with that. When Defoe went down i thought that was our season in tatters, Colo out for 3 games with a red would’ve killed it.
Btw if Colo had been found at a later date of elbowing he would have got a red card, surely the reverse should apply for Defoe for his horrendous dive to try and get someone a ban, it was disgusting.

      (Quote)

  34. 339 – Agreed re: cheating. Disgrace. Never used to see it in the Premiership and it made me proud, then Joe Cole started diving all over the place and it crept in like a pandemic.

EXACTLY!!! i am foaming about that!!! any chairman out of any footy team thats getting beat 5-0 and laughing is an idiot and doesnt give a ****!! ashley and llambias are a joke and i cant wait til the day they leave the club!!

this was just 1 to foget and lets bond as a team and beat wolves and the scum which will get us right back into place!!! HWTL

P.S … CANT SEE BENNY STAYING FOR LONG

  36. Spurs were **** hot today, we were the same except without the hot.
‘turn your back ‘ willo had 1 of his bad ones, as did quite a few others. We can come back from this. other results went our way ….again, werre still just 1 point off 4th. We dont have reserve defenders to bring on when ours are havin a bad on. Lets hope Cabaye & Tiote make a BIG difference.

      (Quote)

  37. Ok dudes – that’s me for the neet. I understand we’re all hurting but hucking fell – it could be a lot worse!! We’ll bounce back – we’ve done enough to prove that already this season. Go out – get pished – be nice to the people you love and I guarantee you’ll feel better by the middle of next week!

    Keep the faith!! 😀

      (Quote)

  38. Big Dave we can’t just pluck a top class defender out of thin air though. If it was that easy Man Utd/Arsenal/Man City(Savic)/Chelsea all would have done it.
I never thought we were in for a 1st team defender, my bad if i’ve got that wrong, i agree that not signing back up was insane but i’m with TC on the 1st team defender front, we waited on a striker and it worked, i don’t want to jump in for players and come out with Boumsong.

      (Quote)

  39. you think Saylor will be back for the start of next season.
    I’m not so sure.
Its a bad injury he has had. There’s no guarrantee he will be upto 100% fitness by then.
Plus he isn’t the dogs bollix either tbh. He does have passion tho.
I would have took a chance and brought in a top quality cb

      (Quote)

  40. Can’t wait for Tiote to return, Perch -> Tiote is an obscene drop in class. Hoping a spanking works better than a 1-0 defeat and gives us the kick in the nads to up our game. We win our next two home games and we’ll be 1 point off 4th at the most with 11 games left, i’ll be getting delusional.

      (Quote)

  41. This has been on the cards for a while and ive been pointing this out.

That was atrocious in every department.

Not one player came out with any credit.

I hope that Ashley now realises that by not securing a quality CB in January was a horrendous mistake.

Maybe the Tigger brigade might see sense now!

    Embarrassing!

      (Quote)

  42. What about the other teams than BB? All their fans will complain about their centre backs also. And who do you suggest we would have signed? Our signings recently have adapted to the Prem with ease, would you risk a 1st season Colo or a Luiz or a Boumsong in place of a steady if unspectacular Williamson?
I know he was very poor today but he is capapble against most the divisions teams.

      (Quote)

  43. SolanosTrumpet so why did Jabba ask Pards when was he getting a CB after Saylor got injuried, and why did Pards say he wanted a CB to slot straight in ??
So your saying you cant just pluck a top class CB out of the air ? but you can pluck a top class striker outta thin air ?

      (Quote)

  44. I think finishing 4th is out of the question solano.
We just need to use the next 2 weeks to regroup and forget about what just happened.
TBH our target this season was top 10 and we should easily make that.
Trying to run too soon maybe ❓
    Meh.

      (Quote)

  45. @351 Troy.
You’re an embarassment. We might not have been playing well but we have had 5 wins in 7 games before tonight, so for you to have been “pointing this out for a while” sums up what a miserable fan you are.

I refer you to my reply @352. Again i fully agree that we should have signed ANY back up, but as for a 1st choice centre back who are your suggestions? Do we know they would have adapted? Why haven’t other teams in need of a CB (Ars/Mutd/MCity) signed one? Perhaps it isn’t as easy as football manager.

      (Quote)

  46. Troy @ 351 don’t mean to be rude but are you right in the fuking heed ? we will just get the same story that our main targets wern’t available in Jan but we have enough strength to cope until the Summer when the main targets will be available. nowt to do with we were after a CB but a Striker became available so we got him instead so there was no more money being made available for the CB that we needed, we can’t be greedy get with the program

      (Quote)

  47. knew it wouldn’t be long before Booby Troy came on to spout his neg shyte.
    Ha Ha
Must try harder fella. The Lads will be ok against most teams this season, just not the top 4/5.

  48. @TAL

    End of the season?

    You winding me up?

There’s 13 games to hold on to our credibility.!

But I’ve been saying on here since the games following Man Utd we’ve shown a serious lack of creativity .

That was alarming today and if anyone says different then they are dreamers!

Off for my curry! Thankyou mrs Stavers!

      (Quote)

  49. @Big Dave, Yeah it is a confusing one, but i was disappointed not getting another striker in the summer and was over the moon with Cisse, I’m hoping it’s the same with a centre back. I would much rather have signed a back up, just made do with Williamson and signed someone we were convinced by then signing someone we weren’t sure about just for the sake of it.
Put it this way I think we are set in about 7 of our positions for the next few years, if we sign wisely we don’t need to splash that much to have an immense first team.

      (Quote)

  50. We only got PDC because the stinking makem kunts came sniffing around.
Else we would have waited till the summer to get him in.
Someone at the club dropped a ******* and the finger points at Llambastad.
Well I was gonna go watch the rugby to calm doon, but thats been frozen off.
    Pity our match wasn’t 😕

      (Quote)

  51. if we can win 7 or 8 of our last 13 games who knows where we will end up keep the faith every pundit said we would be relegation fodder we have been a revelation this season bad day at the office today it is how we bounce back pardew took the blame today he will hopefully learn from his poor tactics and spurs were just two good on the day

      (Quote)

  52. Haha – I don’t think signing a CB in Jan would have helped today, Santon is continually out of position, both will and collo are relatively slow and Simpson isn’t good enough, perch and Guthrie didn’t get stuck in and obertan jonas were overwhelmed – hard to see any positives today but think we can still finish top 7, teams above us are stronger this season and prob next – think we need 3 or 4 signings mostly defensive
Oh well reality kicks in 🙁

      (Quote)

  53. ST the whole point I have been trying to make was that we have took one hell of a massive risk by not getting a quality CB in. I for one don’t think we should be taking them risks when we are so close to achieving a top 6 finish 👿
As for not splashing that much money I don’t really worry about looking after Jabba’s billions i just want quality players for my club

      (Quote)

  54. @TAL

is it the truth that you don’t like?

Have I not praised us plenty when we’ve done well.

The trouble is, I say it how I see it everytime without a fuzzy wuzzy feeling masking my true feelings.

That was nothing short of abysmal from start to finish.

I’m sure there will be a thousand excuses on here tonight.

    Don’t bother me with them.

      (Quote)

  55. Does anyone disagree that had we signed Samba in Jan we wouldn’t have been destroyed so easily.
I know he was a lot of wedge, but who gives a fook if he does the business?
Same goes for Pieters last summer..
    Profit before players every time.
    Reap what we sow.

      (Quote)

  56. Pardew does not know tactics. If Spurs played with 1 defender and this defender played on the right. Pardew would attack down the right rather than exploit the left where there is no one. His one size fits all tactics are simply not for this level.

Every team presents different challenges and thus our tactics need to reflect that challenge. This is why we have gone from one week beating unted 3-0 to the next losing 5-2 to Fulham because the same weaknesses in united are not going to be present in Fulham. This is either Lazy management or incompetence.

We played the same tactics as we did against Villa a result we grinded out. I am not saying if our tactics were always right addressing all areas depending on the team we played we would win. Today Spurs may have beaten us but not 5-0. We played a high line which is suicide against pacey forwards but we persisted with a high line even after we were 4-0 down.

I can’t believe the heights this team is hitting .
I’m sure Jabba, Pardew and you can’t either!

    fickle or what 😉
