Newcastle set to land Ligue 2 midfielder

Amalfitano in action for Reims
Newcastle are looking into offering 22-year-old Reims midfielder Romain Amalfitano an opportunity to test himself at Premier League level, if reports in France are to be believed.

French publication L’Equipe claim that Amalfitano has impressed Newcastle scouts and will be offered the chance to sign for Newcastle on pre-contract agreement as his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Amalfitano is primarily an attacking midfielder. He has made 47 appearances for Riems since joining the club in 2010 and has scored six goals along the way. This season he has made 21 appearances in league and cup, scoring three goals and creating three more for his team-mates.

Other than that I don’t know a great deal about him. His brother plays for Marseille but beyond that information is scarce so I guess we’ll have to wait and see what we may end up getting! Clearly he has impressed the scouting department enough and in fairness to them they haven’t done a bad job over the last couple of years so I’ll trust their judgement.

However I have managed to find a couple of videos of Amalfitano in action so at least we can get a glimpse of him.

So what have we learned from this? Probably not a lot, but I’m not going to flannel you all off and pretend I know anything about the lad. Quite simply, I don’t.

What it does show is that our scouting net is cast far and wide and that we are thorough when it comes to finding players who have a chance of making it in the Premier League. Whether or not they do make it something only time will tell, but at least we’re willing to give players a chance, which can only be a good thing in my view.

Now it’s up to the player to take that chance!

  4. Troy…way back @43, since I am in California, most games are on at 0700 or 0800 and the pubs aren’t open that early…so it has to be my couch or the laptop.

MDS, I don’t subscribe to FOXSOCCER.TV…gave it a trial for a month, and it wasn’t bad. May have to look into it again.

  5. Just popped over and had a look. Didn’t read the article but solme gems in the first comment by that AndyMac:

‘Wolves are a bunch of tossers at home but away from Molineux they’re no slouches. 10 of their 21 points have come away from home’
So doesn’t that mean they’ve won more points at home…..

    ‘Pardwho the Clueless’
Classy reaction to the man who has led us on this merry journey this season 🙄

Get these types all over of course, but good that he has a home where he can talk to himself without getting on anyones nerves 🙂

On post – this lad was tweeted as a mystery Ligue 2 midfielder a few days ago by someone who is ITK in all things Ligue 1 – did anyone else spot that? Who was he? Could he be an ace ITK to follow seeing as we seem to be plundering the French leagues? What’s a hypotenuse?

  14. Tsunki;

Don’t know what a hypoten uses but it could be (well it is) the slanted line on a right angle triangle.

  15. Big Dave – Got him, Matt Spiro, Ligue 1 pundit with an english lang blog. May be an interesting follow seeing as Carr & Co obviously are renting a caravan in France.

  16. ‘What’s a Hypotenuse’ – Family Guy gag when Peter asks about a lot of stuff and Brian asks him if he wants to know or is just asking random questions, that’s what he replies with. Had to be there I suppose. 😕

  17. Matt Spiro is the one. Usually bang on the money and doesn’t just spout **** like Colin. He only usually says something when it is about to happen so get him followed 🙂
