Game On! Newcastle v Norwich – Santon and Tiote out

Cheering on the lads!
Welcome one and all to our ‘Game On’ article which this afternoon will take us through every twist and turn of Norwich City’s visit to St James’ Park.

Newcastle are looking for their first win in four which will go some way to avenging the 4-2 defeat suffered at Carrow Road earlier on in the season.

However it won’t be easy. Norwich work hard, they run at everything and will offer their own threat. They are all but safe in the Premier League and, like us, are at a kind of crossroads in terms of their season. A positive result and they can start looking at finishing in the top half of the table whilst a defeat will probably consign them to being happy enough with how things have gone thus far.

Newcastle meanwhile are looking for the points themselves in an attempt to get back on track and reignite a promising Premier League campaign which has started to fall off the tracks. Don’t get me wrong, all teams have a dip in form as some point in the season, but ours seems to have come at completely the wrong time. Three points in this game would do nicely thank you very much!

Anyway that’s enough pre-amble as there is already enough of that knocking about in the form of NUFC_stats impressive ‘Stat Attack’ and my very own match preview. Why not give them both a read if you haven’t already done so?

Team news is below and will be updated as and when it becomes available.

Howay the lads!

Newcastle: Tim Krul, Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini, James Perch, Hatem Ben Arfa, Danny Guthrie, Yohan Cabaye, Jonas Gutierrez, Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse

Subs: Rob Elliot, Davide Santon, Mehdi Abeid, Dan Gosling, Haris Vuckic, Ryan Donaldson, Shola Ameobi

Norwich: Ruddy, Naughton, Ward, Whitbread, Drury, Elliott Bennett, Pilkington, Howson, Fox, Surman, Morison

Subs: Steer, Martin, Johnson, Crofts, Holt, Jackson, Hoolahan.

  1. Great! Gosling…he’ll probably miss a sitter…have only seen him twice, & both times he’s done just that…

  2. Some if our players look like they have their shoe laces tied together…

I mean this is really poor stuff.

If it was against a superior side Is be happy with the effort. But week after week against the likes if Blackburn, Wolves, Norwich, Villa, QPR… We are beige outplayed football wise by poor teams.

  3. Why are we takeing pot shots in the 90th unless it’s a dead cert ,just play keep ball in their half ffs.

  4. Dave

Ben Arfa, Ba, Cabaye, and Willo have all been very poor today.

Perch, Cisse and Krul have been our best players. Jonasand Guthrie had a good first half.

  5. Thank god we survived that. Would not have been happy to see that slip away. We need to stick them in the net while we’re on top or just stop letting every team back into it in the second half.

  6. UGLY UGLY win again, but hey 3 points i will take that all day long. 😀

West Brom will be a lot harder than that ,will have to do much better with ball retention against them.

  7. FSOTC means he passes to a player that has someone running into him, which might make them lunge to get the ball with a chance that our player gets a bad injury.
    Reet away to get dinner

  8. mike williamson is the worst player i have ever seen and i aint even joking, terrible we were lucky today if we play like that against west brom we will get battered.

  9. Well we won and kept a clean sheet but apart from the first 15 minutes we were never in complete control of the game although Norwich only came close a couple of times . Still a win is what we needed and got , i hope that puts some confidence back into the side .

  10. willo ..not good today, hopes simmo will leave this summer …but thanks for the effort simmo has put in,love to see simmo at another prem club next season to see how good of an enemy he would be.

  11. Happy to finally get three points!

    BUT!!!
we are so poor in posession and our players seems to lack in fitness and power.
I think Cabaye was poor again today and i am really startin to get worried for Ba. He just can’t get a goal and he is again used as a target man without him having the ability to be.. compared to Shola.

Benny was doing some totally brainless passes when defending and williamson is just plain awful.

we lack in focus, power, and confidence.

i am happy for the result but i fear this is the best our team can play and our last 9 games will be tuff!!!!

  12. It’s looking more and more likely that 7th will be good enough for Europa league.

The only real opposition I see is the Scum and they are too far behind.

I think 56 points will secure 7th. Anything over 60 will be good enough for 6th.

  13. That was way too close. Please start playing some proper footie lads! For a full 90 minutes, not just until the first goal!! 👿

  14. We looked dead on our feet today but credit for keeping it going, thought Lambert dropped a huge ******* by going 4 4 2 when if he had stayed with his formation, it was only a matter of time before we conceded.
Considering the chopping and changing we did, we performed quite well in patches with some good scoring chances and a nailed on penalty not given by Fatty Dowd.

  15. Good score but what a shitty performance again.
I m not far too think that all the problems come from Willo, How poor he is I just can’t believe myself this guy is just in the training ground every day and he doesn’t know how to stop a ball, how to pass a ball, a fucking joke.
Concerning Benny, as i said in a previous post, he receives so many instructions from Pardew that he just doesn’t play his game, he seems stressed with the ball, he is afraid to take on players because he is affraid of loosing the ball and loosing his place. Pardew is a fucking joke play him in the hole, instead of Ba coming in our own half to take the ball, he doesn’t have the quality for that.
In the right Benny is completely useless, and in our own half even more useless.
And i think Jonas is our best leftback. Let him there that is very good.

  16. Good FA CUP semi final draw.

Higher chance for newcastle to get to europa.

With spurs/chelsea/liverpool Anyone of them might go final.

  17. We need that victory. Poor performance and even poorer to watch. Game was boring. HBA needs to play a team game more. He dribbles too much and fails to see the strikers making good runs.

Will take the win anyway. Lucky today Krul made crucial saves I think they could have taken a point and would on play have deserved it. Cisse scored again cannot knock his goal contribution but his and Ba’s play out side the box is terrible. These strikers are more suited to skulking in the box and nailing opportunities.

  18. Well not a pretty game but a great win all the same. Thought Simpson did well actually. Great goal from Cisse! Shouldve had 2 penalties, one a blatant handball and the shirt pulling in the area. O well at least they didn’t cost us…

A welcome 3 points however we got them.

  19. Michael, please go and watch the whole season from start upto this point. Ba has never ever been a sulking (whatever the **** that means) box striker. He has always worked hard defensively also.

Desperate 3 points which we deserved on chances alone, general play was awful in parts mind. Williamson, oh my god he was awful today and you can see he has no confidence what so ever. Never wanted the ball played to him.

Benny did ok and from what I seen did plenty of tracking back and made some decisive tackles. Still sick of seeing him on the left but I don’t think it’ll change until next season.

  20. areet peeps.
Not often straight home after the match, but got early start in the morn.
Plus that was fookin awful. I was convinced we was gonna conceed by the end.
Not too sure wtf AP playing at tbh. we had players all over the place.
Total utter clueless garbage from one and all, plus it rubbed off on the fans.
sorry to say, but a decent team would have punished our defence playing patta cake in front of wor own goal like that. Joke. 👿
Great finish from Pappis, and unlucky with the chip before that. Of course we could have been 3 up by HT, but for some good work from Ruddy. This was evened out by a couple of good stops from Tim Krul in the 2nd half..
Dont know what was said at HT but we started the 2nd half with lead in our boots. Dreadful.
Ah well, a wins a win tho. Wot more can you say?
3 points in the bag. NEXT 😕
Anyone heard owt from Pardew yet?

Yes I think. A team is more or less the representative of the philosophy of the manager. When he takes the team last year, he could do nothing, but this year, he decides the transfer and the game we play.
Swansea doesn’t have more money than us but they played much better.
You cannot discuss his results, but how many nice games have we played this year. I think its more individual exploits that bring us there.
As he was in his previous clubs, when he comes it was good but after it was more or less a disaster.
You can see that the fans seems to sleep in the stadium, there is no atmosphere because nothing special in the pitch. Even the player face seem to be not very happy. He wants direct play, ball in the box, he has a philosophy that its not mine, but maybe some fans like this way of playing.
For me in the long term, the only way to have results, to stay in the top 6th is to dominate games, to have a nice style of play. Because our problem is that we are dominated by everyone.
And I will add something Willo just was so ***** today, I can’t even myself believe that. It seems that today he was the first time he was playing football. I don’t like Perch but I wanna see him in place of Willo next game.
