What sort of reception will Carroll and Enrique get?

Judas Carroll? Or Judas Jose?
I’m not one for really bothering with former players if truth be told.

To me they are just commodities who come and go, almost at will. I don’t get why other people think differently either.

Anyway, I’ll stop digressing. As I said, I don’t usually look at former players at all, but this one seems to be all over the media so I’ll run with it and see what everyone else thinks about it.

The subject at hand is of course the weekend encounter with Liverpool and the first return to St James’ Park for the likes of Jose Enrique and Andy Carroll.

Much is being made of the reception these former favourites will get on their return to the club which effectively made them in England and gave Liverpool a reason to splash out a rather astonishing estimated £41 million on the pair. In fact Kenny Dalglish has already suggested that the pair may get a bit of stick upon their return.

Dalglish said in his pre-match press conference: “I’m not sure Andy will get abuse because what happened was outside his control. It’s up to them what they want to do. They pay their entrance money and, if they want to give him stick, they will give him stick. But I don’t think he ever did anything other than give of his best for Newcastle, and then they got £35m into the bargain as well. That’s not bad, is it?

“I think Andy will be excited about going back. It’s the club he supported as a boy, the club that introduced him and gave him his chance in professional football. So I think he will be excited about it as a local boy and will be looking forward to the game. José Enrique had a few years up there too, and he will be looking forward to it as well.”

I’m just wondering what kind of reception you guys have planned for our former number nine, and our former number three come to think of it.

Will it be a hostile one? Will it be a warm one? Will one player get a barracking while the other gets off lightly?

The cameras will be on Carroll and watching the reception he gets, but for me he isn’t the one that I’m most disappointed in. I’ve never bought this “forced out” baloney. Not in a million years can you force a player out of a club if they have a contract. If it could be done do you think we would STILL have Xisco and Alan Smith on our payroll?

Nope.

Carroll left his boyhood club for his own reasons. Whether that be money or or a better chance of Europe or a better shot at winning a trophy, who knows. He had his reasons and off he went, but most importantly he went quietly and we’ve not heard a peep out of him since. He hasn’t slagged off the club, the manager, the owners or anything like that.

Jose Enrique is a completely different kettle of fish however. The sneaky Spaniard played the game all along and knew he was off for months. It was evident in his performances for us, and the Blackpool away game sticks firmly in the mind when I look back on it.

He wanted to talk about a new deal in the summer so he told us. He wanted to wait until he knew we were safe before sitting down to discuss things, yet it seems he had no intention of doing so all along and he left for Liverpool after a rather public outburst on Twitter where he criticised the club, its policies, and its lack of ambition – a lack of ambition that sees his former club eight points clear of his current employers ahead of the game on Sunday.

You see when it comes to reactions from the crowd, not everything is as black and white as it seems and, from my perspective anyway, the media are barking up the wrong tree when it comes to looking for a reaction.

It’s not Carroll I’ll be barracking, it’s the slimy Spaniard!

  3. SHARPY WAKE UP MAN, THE WHOLE REASON WHY CARROLL LEFT IS COS HE WAS DUMB ENOUGH TO SAY HE WANTED TO AND LIVERPOOL WHERE DUMB ENOUGH TO PAY 35 MILL – THE CLUB DECIDED THAT WITH THE 35 MILL WOULD ENABLE THEM TO FULFIL THEIR AMBITION .. IT WAS AMBITION THAT DROVE THE WHOLE DEAL

  4. everyone could see that nolan and barton legs had gone .. anyone that wanted them to stay was blinded by their irrational dislike of ashley and any decision he made …. mainly they disliked ashley cos he was not from the toon and because he made hard decisions and people are not comfortable with change that he instigated …

  5. @Tinpoops

Oh I see. Everyone who leaves their home town club is a ******.

Beardsley? Waddle? Gascoigne? Clark? Watson? And the rest. All wankers cos they left.
    No circumstances taken into consideration.

Where you living at the moment Poopsy?

    Be honest 😛

  9. Robbie if your saying that Owen wasn’t a good striker before injuries took their toll, even though up till he left us he had a 1 goal in 2 game ratio ?? and Torres wasn’t a good striker before Chelski well then thats your opinion and I don’t agree with it and I would think most wouldn’t agree with you 😉
So what do you call a good striker

      (Quote)

  10. boooby you have clearly not been tested over the last few weeks whilst ive been off, as you are below par …. why would i pay taxes? ..

  11. Toonsy-you do make a good point really as, when it comes down to it, Enrique was the one that really ****** us around.

To his credit, Carroll never gave less than 100% for us in every match-I think that’s fair to say-and I think its fair to say he’s not put as much effort in at liverpool. Obviously things haven’t been going as well and morale is an issue and the like, and he does “put himself about” as their fans say, but for me he’s never been as comitted since he left the black and white. Maybe it will come, maybe it won’t.

Still it doesn’t forgive the fact that harped on about local, number 9 future legend blah and then went up and ****** off. Good deal for us, both then and even more so in hindsight, but its still a betrayal.

Enrique on the other hand played poorly for us basically since January when the rumours were circling. I want to turn Liverpool over and finish ahead of them to prove a point to him rather than Carroll. Carroll is getting his money and the like, meanwhile Enrique will hopefully always be in our shadow, and never get that Spain cap but just be left in the shadow because he’s at a **** club, just like Reina  😆

  12. @richie

You base your decision that waddle is a ****** on facts. Not cos he left his home town club.

    He’s just generally a ******. 😆

To be fair to waddle, he was a Sunderland supporter so it was a bad example by me.

The fact he’s a Mackem supporter proves your point.

Poopsy is really struggling though . He’s pooped on his own head. 😆

      (Quote)

  13. But you didnt say before he joined chelsea did you? He is a **** striker now fact and i am sure most people would agree with me.

I’m pleased you’ve turned your CAPS off. It makes you look very silly posting in caps. 😛

I bet if Carroll was being paid £40k he might have thought twice. I didn’t think it was a secret he was on £28k.

    Liverpool offer him £80k.

Wow! Judas? Bloody sensible i would suggest.

Anything else Poopsy? I love our jousts . You make me laugh out loud. You and Trumpet are the blogs Cannon and Ball. 😆

      (Quote)

  18. CAPS = BAIT AND YOU GOBBLE IT RIGHT UP ..
You dont know what CARROLL was being paid, whatever it was, it was quite sufficient and he was going to be a very wealthy individual – that is certain.
Sensible, based economic principles, yes – marginally as would say that to greater or lesser degree he would have been wealthy irrespective of basing his decision on financial return.
judas, yes because he betrayed his local club for money – a marginal amount of money given he probably ha no clue what to do with the extra k he earns and cares for it less.

      (Quote)

  19. Fair enough he is still ****, because he was good 2-3 years ago does not make him a good player lol I cant believe you are trying to say Torres is good. The guy is the joke of English football for a reason.

  20. @Poopsy

Oh I see . You fooled us all with your CAPS prank. You little tinker. 😉 and here was everyone calling you a clown as well and all along you were having us over! 😆 😆 call me cynical but many would suggest you made a bit of a fool of yourself cos you never had a scoobys! 😆
    Woo hoo hoo hoo 😆

And everyone is a Judas who leaves there home town club. Another foolish statement Poopsy.
It was well documented Carroll was on £28k per week and offered £80k by Liverpool.

You can ignore the facts if you wish but you might as reply in CAPS as it will look double foolish.

    Get the guitar Gareth. 😆

So can you explain why you left your hometown?

      (Quote)

  27. All the media’s going on about Carroll and Enrique coming back, and what kind of reception they will receive!!
Daglish, himself has been having his say about how the toon army will welcome back Carroll, hes a clever bloke is old Kenny!!!!
Not once has he mentioned HIS time as manager up here, when he single handed tore our team apart, that just needed tinkering in defence, and could of, most prob of, won the premiership!!!
what about his ***** expensive signings too??? Marceleno, ha ha what a joke he was!! 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿
So Kenny, if i was you, i’d shut the **** up about ex players coming back, it’s YOU who should be worried about the fans reaction, because you started our demise as a top team, buying ***** after ***** for daft money, bringing ya mates in for one last pay cheque. 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 😡 😡 😡 😡
sorry for going on, but could go on forever, AARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…….. off for a few drinks now, enjoy your night folks 😉

      (Quote)

  28. Of course it does but it does not mean he is a good player now does it.

I would call Messi a good player 😛

      (Quote)

  29. @poopsy

Your reasoning is soooo clever. You say, if we were on £28k and playing for my hometown club then we would stay.

First of all, never answer for me cos you will invariably be wrong. We are on totally different wavelengths . I’m on FM and youre on MW.

I would have done exactly what Carroll did in the same circumstances. The club wanted shot cos they wanted the money.
Carroll didn’t feel wanted and was being offered £80k per week to play for a great football club.

No one could have predicted our season would be so successful. Not even you Poopsy. 😆

      (Quote)

  30. Troy you say dont speak for you, yet you speak for Carroll and the club. Sort it out will ya.

      (Quote)

  31. Toonpipe – I would be able to smell the coffee for the ***** your talking bonnylad – and what’s with the capital letters?!

You talk of truth but you don’t know what went on man, as has been said, the truth probably lies somewhere between what the board and Carroll said.

Hate the kid as much as you like, I really don’t see what people get from that as the only person in a worse position is Carroll himself. Hatred is wasted energy in my opinion and I’m a firm believer in karma.

You boo boys knock yourselves out if it makes you feel better, but it will achieve precisely **** all!!

      (Quote)

  32. @Tinpoops

So working on your principle that if you leave your hometown you are a Judas then where does that leave you poops? 🙂

      (Quote)

  33. Robbie @ 114 “Of course it does” what ?
and again you failed to read what I said 😳 I never said he is presently a good striker I said he was a good striker 😉

  34. As you well know, i predicted this success from the start .. i made my name doing so.

  35. Maybe all this was a clever con. We fleece Livershite out of £35m, send in Agent Carroll to fluff loads of goals for them, then resign him for around £5m 2 years later. I should own a football club.

  36. SHARPY .. see you finally woke up .. nice one .. dont hate him .. hes a div .. left the toon when i for one could see great things coming ..

  43. don’t blame em for leaving, enrique because he thought he was joining a club that could challenge for champions league on more money, carroll cos he’s thick as **** and thought he could bully the club into paying him 80k a week
will boo them both because i can and it’s a laugh but not as loudly as i boo daglish

      (Quote)

  44. Toonpipe – was putting my little boy to bed, we don’t all have time to talk utter bollox you know 😉
That obviously explains the CAPS then, coz it you saw great things to come from Carroll your eyesight is clear shot.
Carroll is and always was a one trick pony – an ariel presence with nee pace. He hadn’t scored for about 6-7 games before we sold him and wouldn’t fit into our current starting 11.
He was overrated, he had played a full season in the EPL. He clearly wasn’t in Pardews long term plans for the style of football he wanted to play and to get £35m was just unbelievable and probably allow the club to get head of itself by 2-3 years.

Boo him, hate him, think he’s a div – I’m not trying to tell you your wrong and trying to understand which it all achieves?

      (Quote)

  45. As for myself, I’d give em both some jeers like. They don’t play for us. They’re not helping us win games or score goals, therefore they’ll get jeered. Unless they got injured or something, in which case I’d still applaud them no matter what (well almost… I’d never applaud Nigel De Jong, that rusty ****).

How’s you lads doin’ today? I’m happy to finally have a job that lets me post on here again.

  46. @Sharpey

Mind I’ve got to say you accuse Poopsy of talking utter bollocks but your assessment of Carroll is butter Horlicks as well.

  47. Troy – I don’t see how?! but I’m happy to discuss.

I was educated at Ryton Comprehensive, born Winlaton Mill then moved up to Winlaton at 3 til 26 when the wife talked me into moving to Great Lumley. My mam still lives in Winlaton like, I go over and see her now and again but all the neighbours come out and shout “fecking judas” 🙁

  49. @Sharpey

I dont see anything wrong in moving on if circumstances dictate. It’s Tinpoops who was calling people a Judas for doing so. 🙄

About Carroll. Your blatant lack of ability in identifying a good striker is evident tonight when you class Carroll as a one trick pony.

Far from it. He is a class centre forward who needs the team to play to his strengths. Good footwork, great with head head, holds the ball up and can terrorise the oppositions defence.

      (Quote)

  50. Must get some kip but will answer any queries in the morning.

Tinpoops & Trumpet will come on now that I’ve gone like the brave little troopers they are. 😆

Tinpoops & Trumpet ! Class ! It could be the title of a kids programme! 😛

  51. alreet lads hows it going on? not long now til liverpool , cant wait !! 3 points and we go 11 points infront of them with 7 games left which should surely seal at least 6th place which to me is an unreal season !! what i got to keep reminding myself is we only came up from the championship 2 seasons ago!!
