Game On! Newcastle v Liverpool

Game on at St James' Park
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take you through every twist and turn of the match against Liverpool this afternoon.

As things stand we need a win to keep pace with Chelsea who won 4-2 at Aston Villa yesterday. However if you think that catching and overtaking Chelsea is a bit out of reach for us then another way of looking at it is to consider that a win would put us ten points clear of seventh placed Everton, and eleven points clear of eighth placed Liverpool.

In short a win would give us a stranglehold on sixth in the league and would give us the optimum chance of qualifying for Europe should results in the FA Cup fall in our favour. Even a draw wouldn’t be the end of the world when you consider our recent form against the Reds, but that is just being negative, or realistic, I forget…

Anyway, enough preamble. We’ve already had enough thanks to NUFC_stats fantastic stat-attack and my very own match preview, but if you haven’t already read them make sure you do so just so you can be armed with the stats and latest injury news ahead of the match.

Speaking of team news, it will be featured below in full when Big Dave updates it for you all as I’m at work as things stand. No rest for the wicked and all that… Unfortunately.

Howay the lads!

  10. Not sure it is possible to be happier than this after a match. What a performance.

And once again, despite Cisse’s goals, Perch was MOTM for me

  12. Archie-no worries mate, I was excited thinking Jose would have to deal one but then I remembered how it happened in the first place 😆

Brilliant stuff-they cut through us a few times but we dealt with everything they could throw at us, great performances from everyone I’d say. Maybe Guthrie and Cabaye were a bit quiet, otherwise top notch from everyone, especially Cisse, benny, Willo and Perch 😀

  13. perchio mom 😀 .cant get this stupid smile off my face.all i want from my team is 100% an thats what we got 😆

  14. If you’d have told me that Willo would be man of the match and we’d keep a clean sheet I would have never believed you.

Actually is this just one huge April Fools joke?

  15. That couldn’t have gone any better….except maybe a goal when Enrique was in goal!! 😀

Perch man of the match for me…awesome who needs Collicini!!

  16. i simply cannot contain my happiness today. everything falls in place revolving around 4people. Kenny, enrique, carroll, bellamy.

    wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee. 😆 😆

  17. The Perch going down clip looks a bit **** 😳 but maybe if he didn’t over react Reina wouldn’t have got punished for trying to stick the head on him

  18. What a great afternoon.

Only downside is we might have been helping Everton with the FA cup by getting Reina sent off with straight red.

  19. Big Dave @ 262 – Sadly thats the tendency these days 😥 a bit sad that players over-act these situations, but it somehow have become norm for every team.

but screw that 😛 on a day like this we shall celebrate.

    Btw
toon fans 1 – 0 carroll 😆 boy was he affected. Enrique played **** with the ball aswell.

  20. Think people have forgotten that Willo is actually a decent defender, just has some wobbles, hopefully should remind em!

Dave-agreed, doens’t look like Perch was actually hit but then again this is liverpool with a team of divers, play them at their own game? Still, did himself no favours.

  21. Just been out to the garden to check if the washings dry and my neighbour who’s an liverpool fan came out ,I just burst into fits of giggles ,couldn’t help meself 😈 😆

All he could say was Cisse offside for the second and Carroll needs selling ,such bad losers dippers fans.

  22. Perch & Willo superb today, who woulda thought it excellent game and result. they all ran themselves to a standstll, great performance

      (Quote)

  23. Couldn’t have beaten a nicer bunch of arseholes! Well done lads!!

      (Quote)

  24. Nice to see Barton leaving a trick or two behind  This might come back to haunt us because Reina will be suspended for the fa cup game 😡 On a lighter note, funny how karma works. Jose got what he deserved. 😛

      (Quote)

  25. Toon@Jer-that’s a good point about Reina, would be annoying to win this with him out only for Everton to get the Europa spot….looks like we need to Push for champions league instead…. 😆

      (Quote)

  26. Actually,i feel liverpool will be more eager to reach fa cup final, after such game with us.

Problem is,who will be their manager by that time. 😳 🙄 😉

  27. I’ve not read the whole thread, but with reference to Perch, don’t forget Judas tried to win a penalty and get Krul sent off. I’m so glad Krul came out and said he blatantly dived. There are too many words like gamesmanship, these days instead of calling people cheats. Suarez is the biggest cheat in football so it’s nice to see them get some back.

I’m not saying Perch should have went down, and I’d have been furious if one of their players had done it.

Do you know what though? Happy days, and great win. I thought Judas was gonna burst into tears haha!!

  28. Wow, what a game! I’ve only started to breathe again now! Don’t know if we had the same commentators but they were bugging me, kept going on and on about Simmo’s line clearance should have been a penalty for hand ball! It looked like it came off his shoulder to me. Also I was sure we should have had a penalty when Enrique hauled Ben Arfa to the ground in the box! Really pleased with the whole team, they worked very hard and had a lot of energy. I love watching Benny Boy! Can’t stop smiling at the result, so happy! 😀 😀 😀

  29. I’ll give Daglish a bit of credit for this….a little mind 😉

“I don’t think it was penalty and I don’t think he went down deliberately to get a penalty… It wasn’t a penalty. We don’t have any disagreement with Andy going down and with the Pepe Reina decision either.

  30. Jill they’re for ever making excuses for the dippers and then if it goes against them they’re trying to say we’re lucky etc etc they are all the same.
Even with the sending off they tried to forget about the fact that Reina tried to nut Perch and concentrate on the fact that he never actually touched Perch and that Perch should be embarrased about it 😕 not that Reina was in the wrong.
    Fuk them I say

      (Quote)

  31. May well have hit simmo’s arm, but then he didn’t move his arm to intercept the ball so I think justice was largely done. Make no mistake though it was quite a close game-our second goal was offside i think 🙄 😛

  32. Liverpool remind me of us a few years back. A hodge podge collection of over paid footballers that are supposed to pass as a team. They have some real issues, if it weren’t for thier cup runs they would be under some pressure from their fans and board.

      (Quote)

  33. Dave 😉

Aussie 😉 …..me too, though I had us for 3-1 in the predictor league 😕

      (Quote)

  34. Jill 281 I’m with you on that ,Jose had a good handfull of his shirt if you watch the replay.

  35. People will talk more about the perch thing more than the win itself. Such a shame cause we brushed the so called mighty pool aside like they were championship opps.

felt abit sorry for Carroll when he came off he really did look like he was about to cry.

      (Quote)

  36. Agree Richie.. you could see that he didn’t have any answers once we hit the lead.. one trick pony.. I actually had us down for a draw but you talked me out of it a few days back. 🙂

      (Quote)

  37. Aussie…Since the WBA game I really couldn’t see us failing to beat them……until the game started and I was bricking it for some reason 😀

  38. Fkin get in!!! First time in my lifetime I have seen Newcastle humiliate Liveerpool like that. Enrique in goal at the end!! 😆
