With the season fast approaching its conclusion, I thought it would be the right time for me to pick five stand-out goals that have been scored during the course of this season. Of course I will be interested to hear if you think there have been any goals that I have missed of my list; it actually took me a very long time to whittle them down to five. There have been so many this season that have been stand-out and I believe it will be very hard to pick a one as Goal of the Season when the Premier League finishes. Anyway, let’s go…
Number 5: First up is Ryan Taylor’s volley against Everton in November. Technically this has to be one of the hardest volleys to do in the game of football. He controls the ball and sets himself up before effortlessly stroking the ball into the back of the net.
Number 4: Next is Yohan Cabaye’s freekick against Manchester United in January. This was a game that showed Newcastle United were capable of beating anybody, including the reigning champions. The team had gained a freekick in the Red Devils half and I honestly expected Ryan Taylor to step up and take it. However it was the former Lille man who guided the ball into the back of the net. It was superb free kick and one of the best goals that I have seen this season.
Number 3: This one may surprise a few of you, but I have picked Jonas Gutierrez’s goal against Wolves to go here. I was actually at this game and the strike from our very own Spiderman is superb, he set himself up before striking the ball powerfully leaving Wayne Hennessey helpless. It was one of the standout goals that I have seen and I was delighted to see Gutierrez score as he doesn’t net that often and gives so much for the team.
Number 2: Now it has been very hard to pick a standout out goal from our number nine, Papiss Cisse. In the end I plumped for his chip against Swansea as it is goal that must have been so hard to achieve. The ball seemed to be hanging in mid air before beating Vorm. It was a wonderful goal from our new striker and as I said before there are so many of his goals during his first few months at the club. There is no doubt that there will be more goals like this from our number nine.
Number 1: Has to be Hatem Ben Arfa’s goal against Bolton Wanderers. Ben Arfa had scored a very similar goal in the FA Cup when the Toon faced Blackburn Rovers. Now this goal has to top that one, he demonstrated his magnificent ability and pace to dodge several Bolton players. It was amazing to see him run at full speed and scared the living daylights out of the defenders and capped a brilliant run with an effortless finish
So there you have my five standout goals so far this season. I hope you enjoy them and I’d be very interested to hear which goals would be in your own top five so far this season.« Europe – Guaranteed! | Europa certainty, but surely a consolation? »
