Everton 3-1 Newcastle – Match highlights

Brief match highlights of the 3-1 final day defeat to Everton for you all to ponder again now.

Most definitely this was not the best way to end the season and Everton deserved the win. I’d say that I’d find better highlights but these just about cover it from a Newcastle United perspective anyway although any watching Everton fans may feel a little disappointed that they aren’t so extensive.

At the end of the day we’ve had a great season and have Europe to look forward to next time out. Sure it is galling to lose without even looking like being bothered about it, but it happens and I’m sure that deep down the players are as annoyed about it as the fans are.

Champions League it wasn’t to be although I must confess that I’m fairly pleased it wasn’t just our result that let us down and that Tottenham and Arsenal took it out of our hands anyway.

This season has gone now though and we can start to look forward to a summer of transfer speculation and international football. It’s not really my cup of tea but it’s better than nothing!

Onwards and upwards..

  1. Roll out them central deffender donkeys and some some cb with some pace tiote reaction to there 3rd goal said it all for me

  2. When the OG was scored you can tell by our players reaction – they knew they didn’t deserve it.

  3. Bit of a damp squid to end the season on wasn’t it . Don’t quite know what went wrong yesterday ,did we bottle it , were the players on the beach or more that simply Everton was better than us . The latter I think .
No more performances like that next season please lads ,we never looked liked scoring. Ba is looking increasingly more desperate to get a goal ,understandable but it’s leading to him becoming a tad selfish with his play . Willo is still a concern too despite his recent good performances, why does he turn his back all the time ,the ball inevitably goes in off his *** ,arm ,leg, aargh . They all had a poor day yesterday which is a shame as it sours a brilliant effort and season .Set plays were awful again so that needs addressing as does defence and a new frontman to challenge the Dembas please . On a positive note 5th is great as is Europe and great not to be in the predicted relegation battle and how good does Marv look and he ain’t even match fit yet 😀

  4. I noticed Pardew is laying the land for a couple of our best players leaving this summer.

“I think it’s fairly obvious that we have some great players who have had great seasons,” he said.

“Demba Ba, Fabricio Coloccini, Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote – it is a job just trying to keep your best players. When you finish fifth or sixth, you are vulnerable to the Champions League teams, and we are.

“We’ll have to accept that and try to do the best business we can”

Why do we have to accept it? If they’re under contract we don’t have to sell them. I would sell Tiote if someone offered £25m but nobody else.

      (Quote)

  5. If I had to pick any of those four to sell it would be Demba Ba. He’s been great but it seems to me he needs to be the player in the spot light and he isn’t happy with Cisse being the main man. His lack of goals lately have made him a bit selfish…

    Would love this:

    Ins:
Around 7mil – Mathieu Debuchy (Right back)
    Around 7mil – Yanga-Mbiwa (Defence)
Around 12mil – Yann M’vila or Moussa Sissoko (Central midfield)
Around 10mil – Luuk de Jong (Striker)

    Total SPENT 36mil

Marvaeux will be like a new signing.

    Outs:
Free – Alan Smith (Who knows but we’re 60k/week better off)
Free – Danny Guthrie (Central midfield)
    Free – Peter Lovenkrands (Striker)
Around 3.5mil – Danny Simpson (Right back)
Around 8mil – Demba Ba (Striker)
Around 3.5mil – Leon Best (Striker)
    Around 3mil – Fraser Foster

    Total IN 18mil

    Total spend 18mil…

  6. Stuart ,I think he’s more worried that if a players agent tells him a Cl team is interested in him and he could play CL footie on bigger pay ,he’ll be getting transfer request coming in. It’s really up to the club to prove how ambitious they are to the players by who they intend to sign and strengthen with and refuse to sell like Spuds with Modric .Having said that if a player wants out and its daft money for him ,they most likely will sell , but they don’t have to ,its just better to sell than keep a player who wants out.

      (Quote)

  7. We may have to accept it in Demba’s case if the stories of the release clause is right, Tiote could possibly be away but I can’t see any of the “major” clubs coming in for Cabaye or Colo, not English ones anyway.

KimT…I agree, Everton were just to good for us on the day. I hate the “tiredness” excuse but I think it just caught up with the team at the end, mentally as well as physically. I think the Chelsea win took a lot out of them then add that to the “mental” pressure of the Champions League talk it was just too much for them. Adding some serious quality in depth is essential to allow Pards to rotate and cope with the extra games Europa football brings.

      (Quote)

  8. STUART tend to agree a little, tiote was top notch at first and still is a top player but think hes been sussed a bit and tends to get wound up easy now by players,to many yellows for me refs are looking to him now,yes 20mil would tempt me

      (Quote)

  9. Stuart – Pards is simply covering his hide if and when he sells a player. I think he realises that one big name departure will provide a platform for him to buy 3 players he wants.
The europa league money is ****** all compared to champs and that has effectively destroyed his transfer budget

      (Quote)

  10. Agree with Kim re Marv, he looked class yesterday, the only highlight of an awful game for us. He’s quick and he’s got good feet as well as an eye for a pass, definately going to be like a new signing.

I think if we lost Ba and Tiote I would be a little gutted but would soon get over it if the money was right and we replaced them with quality. For me, HBA suits the 4-3-3 formation and he’s a better player than Ba in my book. Ba clearly isn’t happy playing wide left as part of a front three. If we get a decent offer i’d be ok with him leaving, so long as we have a replacement lined up, someone suited to the three pronged attack.

With Tiote, if we got offered in excess of 20mil, we could bring in a like for like replacement (positionally at least) for around 6-7 mil and throw the rest at Twente for De Jong to challenge Papiss. Wishful thinking I know, but all we’ve got for a few months now is speculation!

  11. the only top player i would sell is collo woefully short of pace same as williamson. If i was pards i be telling them to pack there bags. The rest staying bar the obious 1s that are leaving i.e smith ranger best guthrie loverboy

  12. As soon as I saw that OG I realised that I don’t like Hibbert, no emotion when it happened. Yes they were comfortably winning but he should have at least looked angry or disappointed.

  13. TAE
You are a numpty, there is a reason colocinni was in the team of the season, he’s class. He may not be the quickest but he makes up for it with intelligent decision making when going for the tackle.

      (Quote)

  14. ANDYMAG only numpty is you mate we let in most goals of any team in top 10 its nuptys like you voted for him

      (Quote)

  15. BA would score more goals if he actually stayed on his bloody feet.. He has been going to ground far too easily..

I think there are no real intentions to sell any players but Pardew is just letting us fans know that nothing is for certain… big offers can be hard to resist…

      (Quote)

  16. TAE
You forget how many injuries our defence suffered this season. Colocinni had the defence well practiced and well drilled with S.Taylor in it, Mike Williamson isn’t good enough to be in a disaplined defence, we were successfully pulling the offside trap earlier in the season and we had the best defencive record, Williamson was out of position when we try the OST and so speedy strikers punish us as a result.

Thank God you arn’t manager then, because you clearly know sweet fck all about football. Colo was in the Premiership team of the season!
He even makes Williamson look good. 🙄

      (Quote)

  18. ANDYMAG
you cant play an attacking game with collo and williams simple as that, you want to see attacking football they got to go and 2 big pacy cd defenders brought in.

      (Quote)

  19. It’s not positional play with Williamson. He’s just so bloody weak and that turning his back on a shot does my head in. I’d be happy if he never wears the shirt again. I think if Saylor had stayed fit we’d have made top4.
The brilliant Colo has his weakness too, when balls are played over the top. This is where all our heavy defeats have come from. Right through the middle. It also undermines the whole team especially when we go a goal down. Confidence drops and momentum is lost.
Next season we need two strong defenders. Not mentioning Simpson here but I believe Santon will improve.

      (Quote)

  20. McLeish sacked….not official yet like, shame ‘cos he almost did a great job 😆

      (Quote)

  21. So defenders are the only ones responsible for goals conceded now?
What about midfielders that can’t make a pass or can’t hang onto a ball.. Football is a team game ffs

      (Quote)

  22. Aussie…at least TAE is only slagging the CB’s, you’re starting on the whole team 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  23. Aussie – I wasn’t saying that and of course you’re right. But that central weakness has been our achilles heel. Think about the heavy defeats. Dempsey, Adebeyor even Moses ran riot through the middle!

      (Quote)

  24. were was our brillant centre defenders yesterday when that fella rose to head evertons 3 rd goal yesterday unaposed tiotes reaction said it all

      (Quote)

  25. The other thing I noticed recently is that Krul has stopped coming out for crosses. He was brilliant at it early in the season like at Stoke. He could and should have come out for that 3rd goal yesterday. It’s probably because everyone thinks Willo is big and good on crosses. He’s neither.

      (Quote)

  26. Birmingham got relegated with 39 points under Mcleish, yet **** Vile survived on 38 points.
I hope he gets another chance next season to do the job properly. 😆

      (Quote)

  27. I dont think its fair to hump all the defensive woes on Colo, as he reads the game well and soes some great intercepts and tackles.
He does suffer with the aerial ball however, and needs a taller, stronger, quality CB alongside him.
Willo the wisp is plain awful, in all departments. 👿

      (Quote)

  28. Steven Taylor brings aerial dominance to our defensive play as well as raw drive and passion. Him and Colo are a really tidy fit. We need another signing like him to compliment what we already have in central defence and we will be in pretty good shape. If Llamias had signed a good defender in January we would be sat in Top 4 now. No disrespect to Willo, but he is more of a back up player for When Colo is injured, as his game is too similar and our defence is less well rounded as a result when they play together. It’ll be fine with another Steve Taylor type player in the ranks. More goals from set plays too 😛

      (Quote)

  29. BB
Will probably be Martinez that replaces him the 🙁 , roberto deserves better than that mediocre shithole.

      (Quote)

  30. Its a myth that you need both CB’s to be pacy.
I hate it when both go forwards for set plays and then have to come bombing back to defend, (or not!!).
It was better when Colo held back in defence of the quick break and STaylor went up for the set pieces.
STaylor is 1000 times better than willo, but we never seem to get a full season out of him. Will he even come back from an achilles injury? Possibly not.

      (Quote)

  31. Hitman
I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow unless it’s 25m, then I would say no, to get as much from it as possible.

      (Quote)

  32. Andymag – Martinez will be going to shiterpool to replace King Dog 😉
    Unfortunately 😆

      (Quote)

  33. BB
Maybe we should take Taylor off at around 70minutes so that he isn’t over exerting himself.

      (Quote)

  34. well I’m with Hitman on this.
Tiote is good at times but too much of a liability with the constant yellow cards. (imo) but I would be happy with £20M.

      (Quote)

  35. Some people are so critical its ridiculous.

A top player has a dip in form and all of a sudden he is ****. Some culprits all the time. Only makes me think how miserable it must be to live their existance.

Even Troy is like Santa on prozac compared to some posters on here. 🙄

      (Quote)

  36. Unfortunately I think Martinez will do a great job at shitterpool. And will get the most out of the players that are there.
King Dog is fecking clueless. 😆

      (Quote)

  37. JJ it’s a lot worse on other sites mind! We generally have a good bunch here, but it’s a Great British tradition to have a moan and that will never change! 😉

      (Quote)

  38. Notice that the papers (BBC football gossip column) is linking us (along with Man U) to Debuchy. Reportedly £6.5m would get him, anyone reckon we should offer £5m + Obertan.

      (Quote)

  39. Tiote for around 25mil is good business, yes. BUT. How sure are we that we are going to replace his with someone just as good or better? Before he arrived we didn’t really have a decent anchor man for around ten seasons, whose to say we will find one so easily again?

      (Quote)

  40. JJ – I assume you mean the Tiote comments. I agree with you but overall he’s had a quiet season. When he’s on top form he totally dominates midfield. It was really noticable at Chelsea. After about 10 mins their whole midfield were backing off and playing quick backpasses. He IS made of iron.

      (Quote)

  41. ive seen kompany have a couple bad games, rooney has had a few ect ect flog eh all, dont understand some bloggers, yes the defence needs work, but come on dont go over the top,a great season for me,ime v.happy

      (Quote)

  42. “Newcastle close to completing a deal for Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy”

From the northern echo any news on this ??

      (Quote)

  43. No BB, I was actually refering to the combination Hitman, TAE, and to some degree Stuart, but he’s lightened up a bit lately. I don’t recall Hitman ever being positive or have anything decent to say.
If you don’t have something decent to say after this season. You have to question why you put yourself through the torture?

To be honest, I’m found your opinions fairly balanced on the whole. Why you got a guilty conscience? 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  44. ok fair nuff about not selling Tiote, but AP needs to address the constant bookings. Picking up a yellow after 5 mins is plain ridiculas. It totally impairs his game for the remainder of the match.

      (Quote)

  45. Shamrock…you’re on the wrong thread, young Shrock’s got a new article up ➡ ➡ 😆

      (Quote)

  46. Hitman

Maybe I’m being a bit unfair on you. Misinterpreting what you saying.
Because selling Tiote for around 25mil would probably be decent business. But I disagree that you can right him off and actually want an offer for him, simply because he hasn’t been his best for a couple months.

All players will have a dip in form.

      (Quote)

  47. I’m not so sure we NEED to sell one big player ever season.

Last financial year we ran pretty much even. This season, we had higher gate receipts, more television revue, more televised games, we’ll sell more merchandise, get more sponsors.
Next season we’ll have a bit more to spend with Europe and we have some dead wood on big wages leaving as well.

I can see us spending a net spent of around 15mil this season and still turn a profit at the end of the year.
