What’s the deal with Demba Ba?

Be careful what you listen to!
It seems as though Demba Ba is making headlines over the summer as the press look to offload him at any given opportunity.

Now just over these last two days we’ve had a series of tweets about NBA basketball turned into a “come and get me” plea from the Senegal hitman, plus we’ve had the decision from the club not discuss an extension to his contract which would involve that dame release clause being taken out.

The thing is, how much of this has actually happened and how much of it has just been made up on the spot, or had far too much read into it? I’m guessing quite a lot of it has as I’ve not seen a quote anywhere regarding any of this.

Remember folks we are in silly season. Demba may stay or Demba may go, but the press will know nothing of it until it’s just about to happen. Remember their primary job is to sell papers, and reporting nothing (which is essentially what they have proof of) won’t do that for them.

It’s the difference I’ve noticed with regard to transfer speculation and attitude amongst fans. If we get linked with a player these days people tend to believe it only when he is holding up a black and white shirt on the club website, yet when a layer is linked with a move away people become that bit fearful and put a bit more credence in it. Why? Isn’t it ALL just speculation?

The message is simple, the deal with Demba Ba is that there is no deal as yet and at the moment the press are having a field day with it. Let them.

If he does go there will be little that we can do about it, but with Spurs (the Tottenham ones, not the NBA San Antonio ones this time…) are rumoured to be the ones looking at him. Can I just ask why he would want to go there? Are they playing in any better competitions than us? Nope. Do they pay better wages than us? Perhaps, but remember they too operate from within their means so any boost in wage won’t be of a scale the likes of Manchester City will be offering.

The real threat is PSG in my opinion, and that is only if they aren’t eyeing “bigger” names. They have money and can pay silly wages, plus it’s the club Ba has supported since a young age, and they also have players who have failed at Parc des Princes that may interest us, like Kevin Gameiro… If he goes there I won’t have any issues whatsoever. Remember when Shearer did much the same thing?

My advice is just chill, relax, enjoy the sun, have a beer and don’t worry about Demba Ba or Tottenham or anything like that.

Just my two cents anyway…
