Cabaye impresses for Les Blues
After 90 minutes the draw was probably the fair result. Naturally England weren’t the better of the two sides but they held their own and put in a battling performance with some well disciplined/last gasp defending.
The French always looked like this could slip into a higher gear but in the end they seemed to be happy with the draw. England looked tired, after a performance that was similar to the way that Chelsea faired against Barcelona in the Champions League semi’s when the Spanish giants passed and passed, over and over again. Much like the Spaniards, the French couldn’t break England down. Gerrard and Parker both put in excellent shifts, and looked shattered by the end of it.
On to Monsieur Cabaye. Our man in the middle put in a great performance for France and was subbed off after 80 minutes to be replaced by Hatem Ben Arfa. Tyneside for Tyneside. How long has it been since we’ve heard that!? Yohan did well to avoid a booking but really he didn’t do much wrong and it was hardly his fault that the ref was poor was it?!
Ben Arfa didn’t have much time to impress but did have some good touches to showcase and seemed to be deployed up front with Karim Benzema as Laurent Blanc set his team up to try and grab a winning goal.
As much as I love seeing NUFC represented on the biggest stage, it does make me worried about two things. No prizes for guessing injury is one of them and the other is the potential for great form so leading to bids from other clubs.
Now I cant remember bids for one of our lot after a good showing in the European Championship or World Cup but I do remember all too well that night in Germany when our £17m hitman did his knee, and we all know where that ended up.
I wish HBA, Cabaye and Timmy all the best with the rest of their possible participation in the Euros…. Stay fit and play well…. just not that well!

Cabaye was good and showed what we already knew, he’s a dirty little player. Some ferocious tackling from him. Well done to Carr and the recruitment team to pick up a player like that for a few million. Now he’s a full international for France. I hope that Benny and him have a good Euros. I would like both teams to top the group but I think Sweden and Ukraine will put up a good fight.
Would like to see Cabaye and Ben Arfa link up together in this tournament. They know how each other works and moves now, so I was actually surprised to see that substitution

Thought the French were a bit below par expected more tbh, think the humidity got to both teams in the end. Sweden and Ukraine will be no walk over either and their game was really entertaining and faster paced than ours.
DJG- your right Cabaye was fouling left right and centre last night ,but he always pats fouled player on the back ,smiles and offers a hand up ,like he’s not intentionally gone in hard and it seems to work as he rarely gets booked .
Was also impressed by Russia who are my dark horse tip prior to tournament.
I see Sky sports news are saying Giroud looks to be Arsenal bound then .Funny how Arsenal and Chelsea have failed to really strengthen untill Toon start knocking on the top 5 door .Now all of a sudden Wenger decides to splash the cash on Poldolski and poss Giroud and Chelseas Roman gets interested in his team again and buys Hazard and Hulk

Think Cabaye played more of a defensive role yesterday similar to how we played him early last season, and he proved in the 2nd half of the season that it’s not his best position. He done ok yesterday and Benny really didn’t get long enough but I’m sure his time will come against Sweden or Ukraine when they rest Ribery or Nasri.
Think Debuchy was superb yesterday though, he is exactly what we are lacking at rightback, he was great defensively but it was his offensive play that impressed me … infact, all he was missing was a goal line clearance!!
He is a touch of class and we really should have done that deal before the Euros, coz he may well play himself out of our budget. hope not though.
@Sharpy. I don’t believe it proved that tbh. I think it showed he can excel in either position.
As good as Cabaye is as one of the attacking 3, I would like to see him alongside Tiote in the 2, with HBA playing in the centre ahead of them and us bring in a new attacking right mid.
This would give HBA more freedom, and our right back less work to do having to cover for him.
Cabaye’s contribution to our defensive start can’t be undervalued. His tackling stats were great, and most interceptions in the league speaks for itself.
He could be our Xabi Alonso
ST – I certainly wasn’t undervaluing his early performances when he was played deeper, but in my opinion he looked like he was playing with shackles on (was well as he played), in the 4-3-3 he looked far happier and it seemed more natural to him.
I think he proved yesterday that tackling isn’t the strongest part of his game, but with time on the ball he is excellent at moving the game forward.

The reason most deals don’t get done before the Euros is because either the players want to wait to see if they have more options post tournament or the selling club(if still under contract) will wait because they will get higher offers if the player has a good tournament. I’m fairly sure most if not all buying clubs would like to get deals tied up prior to the Euros, in most cases that just isn’t possible.

My old baxi back boiler is nearly 20 yrs old ,I know I will be forced to have a combi next time but Everyone I know who has one moans they breakdown too easy. Apparently they only last 15 yr tops and the heater exchange mechinism goes on em or something like that. I might as well tell you of my nightmare seeing as this is ‘boilertwatsblog.co.uk’. I awoke one morning in sub zero temperatures, with proper man-flu, phoned in sick, then realised I had no boiler action.
There was about 10inches of snow on my roof, which had started turning to ice and melting. The wadge of snow/ice had forced my guttering off and the melting snow had been dripping directly into the flue on my outside wall and flooded the motor.
So, not only did I have to stay at home for 4 days, ill, I also had no hot water or heating for two weeks in sub zero temperatures, and a fucked gutter.

Rod – It’s been on its way out for ages now and even back when I brought the house it was one thing I knew would need doing pretty sharpish. Luckily it’s the summer but it’s still pretty cold during the night, especially for the lad who feels it more than us adults do
Getting two quotes, one for a new boiler like for like plus making sure the system is ok, then getting a quote for a whole new combi system just to see really.

I think my carpal tunnel is going to start playing up, and when it does it’s hard to hold a paint roller.
I didn’t mind getting a plasterer or a tiler in as they are different skills, but any deorating or joinery stuf I have to do meself.
The funny thing is a guy I tattoo is a painter and decorator and he would do it for me but I couldn’t lower meself to get someone else to do it as I would feel real bad.
Andy it does look as if the sloppy chops stories are true but I think i’ll still wait before getting excited about it
