Has there been a long term plan all along?

Part of the plan all along?
Evening all. How are we doing? All well I hope, although I see I’ve not exactly missed much on the news front.

Some of you may have wondered where I’ve been, most of you probably won’t care, but suffice to say I’ve been busy at home these last two days!

So here is a quickie aimed at getting some discussion going. Basically I was reading The Chronicle earlier and stumbled across some of the comments beneath the article. I can’t remember it word for word but it was an article with no foundation just basically saying that we may or may not still be in for Luuk de Jong, Mathieu Debuchy and Vernon Anita.

Thrilling stuff that none of us know or have heard about previously. Sarcasm intended.

Anyway one of the comments underneath, again not word for word, went something along the lines of backing the transfer policy we have now as Mike Ashley finally seems to have a plan to take the club forward. Of course it is personal opinion, but is it right or wrong? Have some fans just left it too late to realise that this has been the plan beyond the last couple of years?

The only difference now is that we are in a position to action the plan now that we are back in the Premier League. I remember, as most will do, the speech about buying carefully, no more Michael Owen’s etc etc, and that came long before our recent success in the transfer market.

It’s not a new thing. The only difference now is that fans are actually starting to see that it can work for us and that we can bring in good players on modest fees and play the transfer market to our advantage.

This isn’t a new plan – It’s the original one finally being realised!

  1. Andy ,Alice was heavenly in my eyes as was Bowie , my mates all took the **** as they arn’t your average dreamboats like David Cassidy or Donny Osmond was back then. I liked em a bit rougher round the edges as it were and the music was better too. 😉 😎

    Ice@72 I guessed as much. 😆

  2. I’d be surprised if any businessman made such a huge outlay on an asset and didn’t have a plan. And I’d be surprised if a businessman had a large asset that had no business plan attached to it.

Of course I have no idea when that plan came into being but I’d be surprised (again) if it wasn’t drawn up early on. No doubt the short term targets have changed due to circumstances, but the long term vision will probably be the same.

You just don’t do these sorts of things without a business plan. Even I, in my corporate identity as a small business, work to a business plan.

  3. The club stated it had a 5 year plan to get our finances sorted and for us to get into Europe, a few years back. So how can we question whether there is a plan in place or not 😯 … Everyone scoffed at the 5 year plan and accused the club of being a selling club, Ashley is lining his pocket with the money and so on and so forth… Ashley and Co have made a heap of mistakes but to say they may not have had a plan is ridiculous… rant over

  6. I like this time of day, the abuse levels aimed at me are much lower. 😛
It gives me a little time to build my self esteem levels before the sun dawns in England and more noticeably, in Spain 😉

You won’t see cheap shots fired off by me whilst others sleep.. I’m a little more mature than that and respect my peers

  7. Andy – Time for your article later on then I reckon 😉

I’m not a sentimental sod but I still feel kind of bad for Beckham. All the work he put in to help the games come to London and not even a place for him 🙁

No news over here regarding Curtis Good… seems to have gone quiet. I reckon he will sign on though and it will be as a future left back, not as a centre half… 😕

  17. no air con mate?

Sitting around 17c here, very nice day seeing it is winter… sun is shining so can’t complain..

I’m not sure why but for some reason I become more suspicious of you when you are being nice 😯 😆

  18. Aussie…No mate, it’s a dump really. It’s wor lass’s stepdads, he inherited it when his Mam died, it had been empty for about 3 years and was probably **** when new 😐 that’s why we’ve been looking for a house, but 2 have fallen thru for various reasons. I’ve painted the place and put ceiling fans up but ain’t worth spending anymore than that on the place, feel bad complaining about it as it’s free. Hopefully it’ll be a little cooler next week, hit 39c yesterday and will be 37 today…might have to just buy portable aircon then take it with us.

  19. I’m always nice….except to ignorant, bad mannered and people who lack respect when driving or in general…..and there’s loads of the feckers here, honestly don’t know how I havn’t clocked anyone here…..not thru lack of trying tho, but the fecker had done one by the time I’d got downstairs. On the plus side, I’m slowly teaching all of Alicante all the English swear words 😆

  20. I know what those temps are like mate… not nice at all… those portable air cons are fecking hopeless to be honest… Buy yourself a portable fan and a squirt bottle and fill it with water. Sit back away and squirt it toward the fan…. works better than portable air cons.. other than that, don’t move to quick 😆

      (Quote)

  21. Aussie….as if 😆 I’ve seen those fans with the water bottle attached that spray you but don’t know how good they are…nowt compared to Saudi when it was nudging 50c, that was fecking torture.

  22. got no time for those kind of people either…. I’m glad I don’t have a swear jar in my car as it would be filled to capacity just driving down the road to get some milk 😯 we have some right bell ends driving on the roads here…

  23. Around Port Hedland up north in WA, we get near those temps, easily mid 40’s for days on end… killer temps, good for beer drinking though. They taste sweet at the end of a days work… I wouldn’t live there, hell hole…

  24. It’s the roundabouts here that do my head in, think it’s a fairly new concept here and they haven’t a clue how to use them, they’ll be in the 3rd lane to turn left but will takee the first exit right and vice versa, and never indicate……and worst off all, all the feckers seem to drive on the right hand side of the road 🙄 😆

  25. It often hits the 40’s in Madrid in summer and stays there as it’s all concrete and tower blocks, gets alot colder there in the winter thought. Great city if you ever get the chance, it’s where I first discovered the “2pint” glass, apparently you’re supposed to share 😯 …..nae fecking chance 👿 😆

      (Quote)

  26. Would love to see Madrid, been to San Sebastian and Pampalona (spelling?) for the bull run but that was about it… loved what I saw though… 2 pint glass…. nice… I wouldn’t share that fecker either 😆

  27. I was hoping Bilbao would get in the Europa so I could take a trip up there 🙁 Levante isn’t too far from here though and Atletico Madrid would be canny too, they’re moving into a new stadium in a couple of years so want to go to the “old” one before they pull it down.

  28. Gone quiet on here 😯

Ice, do you have any breaking news like the stuff you revealed last night?
