£16m double swoop for Douglas and de Jong?

Doing a deal for de Jong?
It would seem that Newcastle have sent a delegation over to the Netherlands with the aim of sealing a deal for FC Twente pair Luuk de Jong and Douglas.

And if you believe what the Mirror has to say on the matter it would also appear that NUFC have been quoted a price of £16m for the pair, which I think isn’t a bad deal.

Of course it’s easy for me to say that as it isn’t my money, but these are two players we’ve supposedly been looking at for a while and it would help sort out two positions for us that need strengthening in terms of attack and defence.

However FC Twente boss Steve McClaren insists that it would take a “silly money” offer for his star striker to move clubs this summer.

“Every player has his price. Luuk de Jong is a fantastic forward, but he is only 21 years old and it would be better that he has one more season in Holland before he moves to the Premier League,” said McClaren.

“We have already sold a forward to balance the books. There is no financial pressure for us to sell.”

Unfortunately McClaren said much the same thing before Edin Dzeko left Wolfsburg for Manchester City which kind of shows how much sway a manager has. Sure he may want to keep de Jong, but money talks in the boardroom and at the moment we have our representatives in their boardroom. Allegedly…

More speculation or signs of action? Who knows, time will tell all I guess, but for now we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with regard to the whole de Jong/Douglas situation although it’s well worth pointing out that the transfer window is now officially open!

What do you make of it all?

  9. Poo, stupid Spain and their no Strikers. Right we know what we have to do, get rid of Ba and Cissé and replace them with Vuckic and Gosling, also get rid of Jonas and HBA and replace them with Abeid and Amafilitano. 😕

  12. @Dave don’t worry I will, smuggling all my NUFC shirts in as well and then wearing them when I find more NUFC people at uni 😆

  13. Andy @ 177 if we had players that could pass the ball like spain but there’s not too many players that can do that.

    Kim they look unstoppable

  14. wow are Spain mint, not bad for a bunch of short arses without a recognised central striker. The Italian defence didn’t know who to mark, and things moved way too fast for them…immense !!

    Dave
Would you rather you saw lots of goals like Alba’s and Silva’s OR a few pieces of magic that Cissé shows, and that cutting in run that Benny does?

That’s a lot, they might be AS Levels as A Levels are always taken in June. Not entirely sure tbh. That’s a lot, over three weeks I had five exams to take: English, Media, History and General Studies.

  20. Kim, I’ve been waiting to go since January aha. Been so motivated to do well in my coursework and exams. Now feels like it’s only around the corner and my whole life is ahead of me. Cannot wait at all!

  21. Andy,Don’t bother with teaching ,unless you intend to teach older kids. There is a shortage of 11yr and up teachers but for primary and early years it’s flooded . Hazel did her teaching degree for primary and early years and there are around 100 people applying for every job 👿 You get a better chance in London cause few want to work there I suppose. She’s working as an early years practitioner now ,it’s nowhere near as good pay as she should be on but she likes it.

  22. Zoe ,you’ll be fine as you have a passion for writing ,it’s plain to see . 🙂

Think it’s different in Scotland, there’s a requirement for teachers for the young ones, would prefer to teach 9-up anyway.

  24. Kim: Thank you that means a lot, I hope to do sports photographer with my articles when I make it as a journalist. A picture tells a thousand words in my eyes. Love my writing as well.

  25. Kim funny enough thats what my Daughter done 😀 she is secondary school but couldn’t get a post over here and has been trying for the last year and a half – 2 yrs. and your right about London because she was going to go to London, only a manager’s Job came up in a womens clothing chain came up for her.
So at the min she loves it but is still registered for a teaching post.

I bet Richie is celebrating now with a big feed

  26. Andy ,Down here the bursary for trainee teachers is much higher if you intend to teach older kids by some distance. The pay scale is bigger too. Early years and primary is around £18 -24k a year but teachers for the older ones are on a really good wage. But the uni couse is punishing ,really stressfull compared to say English Lit/Lang ,History ,maths and the like ,cause you cover so much and have to pass exams befor they will accept you to make sure you are fit to take the course. Then you have the teaching to do under supervision and the lesson planning for the weeks you are at school . Basicly you have no life untill it all ends . 👿 What it all boils down to is ,you have really got to want to do it as it ain’t for the faint hearted 😆

  28. Well ,if any other team wants to win the next tournament I reckon they will have to spike the spanish teams half time sports drinks 😉 Talk about awesom and then some 😎 Well done Spain, history makers .

  29. I seem to remember one of the reason that Enrique wanted to leave was that he wanted to get in the Spanish squad. With Jordi Alba as their new left back and after the tournament he’s had i don’t really think it would make any difference who he played for, he’s probably further away from getting in the squad than ever.

Grass isn’t always as green as it seems jose!
