I’ve not penned an article for what seems like an age now, I’ve been busy with exams and I’ve been working hard to try and get into Newcastle University. I’ve ordered my season ticket already so I’m extra excited for this upcoming season, but what new faces are we going to see on the pitch?
Our market of choice this season seems to be the Dutch market and we’ve been heavily linked with two players from FC Twente, Luuk De Jong and Douglas. These have stalled in the past few days but I think they may re-ignite as the summer progresses.
Luuk De Jong is a Dutch international centre forward who’s looked tidy for FC Twente in Holland, he’s really started to breakthrough in the last 2 seasons where he’s managed to hit 20 or more goals. Twente seem to be playing hardball regarding the fee, but it’s rumoured he’s interested in the move and has visited St James’ Park, that coupled with the fact that he’s friends with Tim Krul I think that if we can agree a fee with Twente the deal may be done.
Likelihood – 6/10 – FC Twente has reportedly rejected a bid of £11 million from Newcastle and want nearer £15 million for the frontman, it’s now down to whether the Newcastle hierarchy feel that he’s worth that much and whether he’s a sound investment, time will tell.
Douglas is a Brazilian centre back who has been rated as one of the best in the Eredivise, he’s supposedly right up there with a former Newcastle target Ajax’s Jan Vertonghen who Ajax priced out of a move to the club. Douglas is a strong commanding centre back who’s good in the air, something which would complement Fabricio Coloccini. One worry I have surrounding Douglas is his temperament, he was given a 6 match ban by the Dutch FA for pushing the referee and an opposition player after being sent off for an alleged punch (supposedly there was no contact).
Likelihood – 8/10 – There’s been strong reports that we’ve agreed a £5 million pound fee with Twente for the Brazilian defender, but it’s nothing concrete as of yet, I would be surprised not to see him arrive though.
Mathieu Debuchy is a long term target for the club and he currently plays for Yohan Cabaye’s ex club Lille, and another player who the Newcastle hierarchy are keen on pushing a deal through for in the coming weeks. The attacking right back impressed in the Euro’s with France, which may have drove his price up, but virtually every report claims that he’s desperate to sign for Newcastle to re-unite with his best friend Yohan Cabaye. The fee Lille want for Debuchy is rumoured to be £6 million, and we’ve already had a £4 million bid rejected so if we want the player, I’d be surprised if we didn’t match their valuation.
Likelihood – 7/10 – There’s been reported interest from a number of clubs after his strong Euro Championship with France, so there’s a chance he may get his head turned by a bigger club with interest from Inter Milan being reported, but he did seem keen on signing for the club so we’ve just got to hope he hasn’t changed his mind.
Vurnon Anita is another man who Newcastle are supposedly tracking this summer. Ajax flat out rejected our initial bid of £4 million for the versatile midfielder. Anita can play both left back and central midfield and has been touted as the ideal successor to Tiote should he leave the club. At this current time it looks like Tiote will not be moving, but if he does I feel we will definitely move for Anita. Ajax do not seem keen on losing their man and want upwards of £8 million which I feel may put us of, unless Cheik does move on.
Likelihood – 4/10 – I feel that Anita is a bit pricey and may not be real value for money at £8 million pound, he would be a decent replacement for Cheik Tiote but I don’t think he’ll leave the club, which is why I don’t think this one will happen.
They are the 4 main targets which have been reported in the media, but the following players have also been linked to us, but not all are worth talking about; Ola Toivonen, Salomon Kalou, Curtis Good, Junior Hoilett, Kevin Gamiero, Serdar Tasci, John Guidetti, Nathaniel Clyne, Henri Bodimo, Youssouf Mulumbu, Sebastien Boenisch, Roberto Rosales, Ezekiel Fryers, Gael Bigirmana, Mark Davies, Erik Pieters and Raul (yes, I know), it really is the “silly season”.
Who do you think we’ll sign?

Welcome back Jobey, hope the exams went well?
Pretty much agree with the “likelihoods” on those 4 but I think De Jong move now depends on him trying to “force” through a move rather than us increasing the bid, which if reports are true is more than enough imo for a young player with his experience.
I think that the deal for De Jong is dead, thats too much for the fat man to splash, however I think we can get a player thats the same level as De Jong cheaper.
Kind of over all the rumours, its getting to the stage that I won’t care if they don’t sign… I’d be happy with some quiet signings like Cisse
…. Jobey, what about Curtis Good, he would at least rate a 7/10 ?? I reckon he will sign eventually…….. maybe……..ahh forget it…..
Ice, you be nice to Richie mate… you have a full week to be kind to the big fella… I will say something, at least you had the guts to take on the bet, unlike Andy
McClaren on SSN now apparently, any of you UK lads watching it?
Just put it on Richie, even got David Craig doing the interview but its with klivert or however you spell his name, wonder if thats a hint with a north east signing on the cards
Simon….hopefully, like I said I can’t see LDJ happening unless the player himself tries to force it through, imo we’ve offered more than enough.
It’ funny the two clubs we are having difficulty with are the two clubs we got tiote and cabaye on the cheap. Surely they have the hump with us, wouldn’t we if a club took our players on the cheap?
Just heard the mackems are after Anita, looks like they are feeding off our scraps again.
Good look with getting into Newcastle uni Jobey
Richie Think you are right there, player sounds good (never seen him play) but silly money being asked for. Look at the lad Boro signed a few years back, scored loads out in Holland but once he came over to England, did nothing. Think what we offered should be the max. And after all, other clubs may offer more, but based on add ons, so might never get there where as £11m up front, they are mad not to take it if he wants away.
Simon…Kezman at Chelski was the same too, Kuyt(like as a player) used to score for fun there too.
Belter… I think it’s maybe that these players are higher profile than the previous ones we went for combined with Debuchy doing well in the Euros so the clubs will be hoping to start bidding wars for the players.
Defense is the main priority, I think the most important positions that should get filled in order are:
1. CB (First team)
2. RB or LB (First team, with Santon playing in the other side)
3. Young CF (To play behind Cisse and Ba, start for us during the ACoN)
4. CB (Backup, basically its Curtis Good)
5. CDM (Backup behind Tiote)
6. RW (If Marveaux gets hurt, Obertan isnt great there, maybe Brahimi would be good?)
7. Young players like that young CDM from Coventry.
Yeah Richie and I can see the bidding wars starting as well. Was much better last season when nobody knew who we were in for until the deal was signed. I know thats not our fault, be the other club or agent no doubt giving the game away, but by them doing that, looks like we miss out. Think its right though, dont want to offer stupid money again for players
agree with SK, however re the CDM is it to play alongside Tiote as we seem to be playing Jonas alongside him at the moment and competiotion with three good players in there.
Its probably morning I’m having (high finance is a stressful business
) but am I the only one who thinks we’ll sign nee one
Very hopefull we’ll get Debuchy in the end .Anita is far too much asking fee and I would’nt entertain it tbh ,likewise with De Jong the £10 or £11m we are supposed to have bid is more than enough . Some of these clubs are taking the p with their valuations ,I mean non of these guys are proven in the PL .There are some good players on that end list Jobey ,certainly worth a punt on some of them.
Off topic ,but I see SSN reporting AC Milan interested in Andy Carroll
kim he would be the perfect understudy for Zlatan
Another thought I just had . Remember when Liamsoutherntoon was on about our mystery man ,which we now know is De Jong. He said the signing was dependent on another one coming in .I assume that would be Douglas then
If you are out there Liam ,is that correct.?
Prem ,That’s true ,with him knocking on 30 now ,it kinda makes sense ,he’s a big guy too like Andy. Still shocked though as can’t imagine AC fitting in with the lifestyle there .
Typically credible article in the metro:
“The final decision will come to Debuchy, and Newcastle remain confident he still wants to play in the Premier League, and will snub other offers to do.”
“Newcastle are desperate to land a new right-back this summer, after Danny Simpson walked out on the club at the end of his contract last month.”
Thoughts on who is coming.
Defence, Can see being hacked off with FC Twente so Curtis good, with Debuchy & Sakho.
Midfield. We need another class CDM so Anita is Good along with Hoillett for width / attacking options.
Striker maybe Guidetti.
However could be nobody.
CC ,Crap research as usual ,they couldn’t print the truth if they fell over it
Jobey good read and good to see you back, hope all goes well for you .
I would fall into the never take notice of the stories, simply because no one knows what the club will do, and inside the club there is probably only 3-4 people in the know.
All I know is that we needed 2-3 players before we started shipping out some of the players we had, so I would say we now need 5-6 players but just can’t see it happening.
I see Sigurdsson has gone to Spurs instead of Liverpool. Quite a snub for Kenny Rodgers that one is.
Kim…Liam definately wasn’t talking about De Jong, he said it was a player we hadn’t been linked to before….LDJ ha been linked before Liam said that
*had*
DJG
It would be an obvious choice for me, I’d rather go to Wigan than Liverpool.
AMF
Oi ya cheeky b@stard. I was never asked to be a part of the original bet, I just gave my view of it.
Andy….Aussie will be a kip now, his lass doesn’t let him stay up past 9
Kim & Richie
Pretty sure Liam said it wasn’t LDJ when someone asked him. Could have been Siem De Jong and his signing was dependent if his brother signed or not.
Signing Sakho would kill two birds with one stone because he can play at left back as well, But id be surprised if psg let him leave let alone us pay their asking price.
Odds of us signing Hoilet getting slashed pretty much hourly…
I think Gameiro would be a good buy for us. He can play on the wings (Ba’s position), which would be a more natural choice. He is just about at the right age, and can’t seem to get a game at PSG. A bid of around 7 to 8 mil might be a steal.
Andy…..It defo wasn’t one of the De Jong brothers, as we’ve been linked with both in the past, Luuk since last summer, Liam said it was someone we had never been linked with
Richie
Do I hear the sound of a whip being struck?
@26 that is
Guys ,I’m sure Liam comfirmed it was De Jong as he was angry it had been linked to the press too quickly if I remember rightly ,Obviously he can comfirm it one way or the other
. If I’m wrong there is obviously our mystery man still in the background and Liam did say he’d let us know who it was even if we didn’t sign him.
Ignore me then you bunch of bellends
I agree with witters @34
i agree with dave@35
@ Witters
Yes
interesting stuff from Luke Edwards in the telegraph today -
‘Managing Director Derek Llambias travelled to South America last week where he is understood to have been trying to set up a deal for two young players from Argentina to join compatriots Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez on Tyneside.’
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/9375696/Newcastle-United-have-been-priced-out-of-a-move-for-Luuk-de-Jong-fears-manager-Alan-Pardew.html
Reported by Dutch media….with a dodgy translation
It is likely that Luuk de Jong this week his transfer to a foreign club . After an earlier bid of ten million euros from Borussia Monchengladbach last week was rejected by FC Twente, the German club are again in Enschede according to reports. A delegation of the Bundesliga club arrived here Wednesday afternoon after 15.00 hours at the Grolsch Veste. Previously reported already his father and the agent Louis Laros in the stadium of FC Twente. The Enschede club requires a minimum of fifteen million for De Jong, who in the last league season scored 25 goals . In the negotiations which are underway, the Swede Oscar Wendt who is under contract to Borrussia Mönchengladbach, may be involved. The 26-year-old left back has long been coveted by FC Twente. Last weekend conversations were between Newcastle United and FC Twente spoke on the transfer fee of Luuk de Jong
Richie, thanks for that useless piece of information…
JJ aye but hes good at it
South Americans usually take quite some time to adjust to the league, though if they’re young then they could be some more young’ins to fill the reserve pool.
Wouldn’t permits be a problem with young south americans
SSN .RVP not extending his contract with Arsenal .
aye saw that KIM,maybe going to m/c
Kim
, so much for the new signings showing the ambition to convince him to stay.
Yeah usually they need to first go to Spain or Holland to get a Euro permit before going to the UK.
On RVP
JJ…. I thought you’d like it as you’re a Lee Ryder fan, who is the NE’s biggest provider of it and out of date transfer news
Andy ,yeh that’s what I thought.
Maybe RVP didn’t fancy competing with Poldolski and Giroud
as top dog.
…or maybe he’s heard we’ve pulled out of the LDJ deal and fancies his chances
Richie ,I’m sure him and Krul would get on like a house on fire
Kim…aye, best of mates
Yeah I’m sure the knowledge of his mate Krul playing for us would be enough to convince him to half his wage requirements
At least there’s only until the end of this month to worry about Ba leaving, end of August for the rest of them
…..though if Dalglish had still been in charge at Liverpool he would have been daft enough to wait for deadline day then put in a £25m bid for Ba
The fee thing doesn’t worry me about De Jong coz Cisse cost too much but with time things sorted themselves out. My concern would be Munchin Blah Blah and whether Luuk fancies Germany over Newcastle. If he says to Twente that he prefers us then we’ll get him.
I do think that we will get Douglas, Good and Debuchy which will be enough to strengthen the defence to where it needs to be.
I’m amazed and alittle disappointed that we haven’t picked up or been linked with some of the free transfers available.
It’s a funny old game this transfer carry on and anything can happen yet.
Sack Holland off and get Hiollett and Rodellaga on freebies for me like, coz I don’t think De Jong is worth more than £10m and Anita isn’t worth £5m IMO
Sharpy…either no one will offer the money they want for De Jong so they’ll have to accept lower, or he’ll kick up a stink and try and force a move to his preferred club.
I wouldn’t mind Hoilett but I’d rather get Kuqi back than sign Rodallega(well almost) he’s no where near good enough for us imo…..don’t rate him at all.
Sharpy@54 Agree with all that ,wouldn’t want us to pay too much for Anita . Hoilett coming to us is looking likely according to the latest betting odds. I ‘m a bit puzzled by that as he’s supposed to have priced himself out of a couple of moves wages wise
So how would he wind up with us, very strange. Got a feeling someone my be having a medical by friday
@56 may not my
Richie – think that’s hit the nail on the head with De Jong like, think we just need to play the waiting game with him, I think we’ve done enough to prove to him that we want him and are prepared to pay good money for him upfront. If he wants to test himself in the ‘best league’ then he’ll have to force a move.
I’d have gone for the Russian lad who’s just joined Reading tbh mate but I think Rodellaga has been unlucky with injuries in the last 2 seasons but he’d do alright for us I think but I meant he won’t be a bad last option really, just didn’t word it right
Kim – weve had a good clear out players this summer so our wage budget should be looking health at the moment, I’m not saying we should pay Hiollett a high wage just because he’s on a free, but we should be able to offer him a decent package. The daft thing is that both us and blah blah are going for De Jong and Hiollett, I think Hiollett on a free is a better option than £10m for De Jong. Aside from the obvious finances, Hiollett knows the league and could be used on the wing aswell as upfront.
Starting 11 nxt season
………..Krul…………..
Deb…Doug…Collo….Sant
HBA…Tio……..Cab….Hoil
…….De jong..Ba/Cisse….
Top 5 finish. howay da ladzz
Sharpy…havn’t seen much of the Russian fella but he looked canny what I did see, I’ve just never rated “rodders”, he’s only got into double figures once at any of his clubs since 2005 and he’s only scored 2 more league goals than Shola in the last 4 years, played more games and most of Shola’s apps will have been as sub…..that sort of sums him up for me, just my opinion of course
Barnetta off to Schalke…
MM…do you keep hibernating mate, that was a couple of days ago
MM
He can’t be he’s stuck in the Jesmond.
Andy….ya’ll get no reply, he’ll have gone to sleep for a couple of days
Sharpy@59 ,That’s a good point there ,There is also the fact we are in europe, maybe that would appeal to him more than the high wage ,it all depends on what his ambitions are or wether he’s just out to make lots of money.
Well lads have we signed anyone yet
Dave ,Course not
Kim I was just checking
Dave ,you know what they say ,hope springs eternal ,or summut like that.
Kim maybe we’re going to wait till Fri to unvail them all, as they like to unvail them on fridays.
I wonder when they’re going to bring out the new home top as my wee lad is doing my head in
Still no word of your top yet
So seems like Van Persie may be off then…well as long as he’s out the country its all good….as long as he doesn’t go to a club in the Europa league this season…
Newkie
I reckon he’ll be off to Juventus, dunno why but I don’t think he’ll go to city.
I see the Metro reckons we’re closing in on Debuchy, after all we need a RB after ‘out of contract Danny Simpson moved to Reading’.
no signings again
…. I might do a Munich Mag and go into hibernation for a few weeks or go to bed even early than 9pm to get a longer sleep
…
It’s like ground hog day on News Now…. how many ways can you rehash the same feckin stories….. hang on Richie should be able to tell me because he does it on here every day
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2168934/Nile-Ranger-wanted-Norwich-City.html
“Groundhog Day”…now you know how we all feel with your attempts at humour
……you’re right about newsnow though, I think they’ve been broken into and the thieves have left the feeds on “loop” to fool security
I totally ignore the rumours as we normally buy someone off the radar.
The above players sound good but until I see them in a black n white shirt I will continue to ignore the comments just like I ignore Faussies comments.
Well I guess they don’t call it the Daily Fail for nothing.
They’ve copied almost word for word the Metro article from yesterday, so they’ve repeated the error at the end of the article:
“Newcastle are desperate to land a new right-back this summer, after Danny Simpson walked out on the club at the end of his contract last month.”
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2169050/Newcastle-closing-Mathieu-Debuchy.html
http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/904148-newcastle-re-open-talks-with-lille-over-mathieu-debuchy-as-inter-milan-circle
Rich, they are not “attempts at humour” they are realisations of humour
Aussie…Now that’s funny
Chris…Aye, they’re pathetic. I’ve said it before(sorry Aussie) but real sports journalism is a dying trade, it’s all about copying and pasting from various online sources. Journas don’t seem to have sourceswithin clubs now and even if they have, by the time they can announce anything, the said source has told a mate who’s told a mate who’s put it on twittter/facebook etc. No more exclusives for the auld journos I’m afraid.
*journas=journos
Dave @71 No the shirt hasn’t arrived yet
Toonsy is on it though
Took so long to reply as got a call from respite carers to say Lew was unwell
They are dropping him home this morning as it was too late last night. I’m cursed with respite ,he’s either too ill to go or ill there or ill after
.Off to the docs again ,they must be sick of the sight of us two.
Want some good news out of Toon today as proper fed up now.
Manure latest after ba and tiote i see, Fergie admitted “working on one or two deals” which naturally involves us, Id have though the Baines and Gaitan deals that them lot have been chasing for months now would have been more likely or it that too sensible to sell a paper ??
Hope Lew gets better soon Kim.
Ref ya shirt, if Toonsy’s on it the postie has no chance of lifting it
I reckon RVP has been offered some solid coin from City….. a proposed 220k a week pay packet certainly would make you question your current clubs ambitions under it’s current mamanger
Kim, just be thankful Ritchie hasn’t worn the shirt before you get it… your son would end up with a Newcastle tent instead
Richie@87 thanks. and re Toonsy
Aussie ,you and Richie heading for a ban i reckon
