Chemnitzer FC 1-0 Newcastle – Match report and highlights

Sammy sporting our new kit
Pre-season kicked off in less than emphatic style last night as Newcastle succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to 3. Fußball-Liga (third division) German outfit Chemnitzer FC.

Ze German outfit are a full month ahead in their own pre-season preparations and that showed on a fine evening at the 16,061 capacity Stadion an der Gellertstraße as the hosts ran out 1-0 winners against a largely second string United side.

The home side dominated the opening exchanges and went ahead within ten minutes courtesy of a smart finish from Anton Fink following on from good work on the German right-wing from Sascha Pferffer. The lead was very nearly doubled soon after but for a smart save from Rob Elliot who palmed away a goalbound header as a result of an efficient German set piece.

However Newcastle soon clicked into gear and Sammy Ameobi created an opening for Dan Gosling who saw his shot denied by the post, and by the offside flag. Ameobi then found himself also denied by the offside flag after his header found the back of the net before Gosling again and Haris Vuckic both forced fine saves from Phillipp Pentke in the home goal.

United emerged unchanged in the second half but there was no notable action until Romain Amalfitano sent over a corner which Sammy Ameobi headed onto the roof of the net. That was in the 58th minute, and just two minutes later United were nearly level after the home ‘keeper missed a backpass although he managed to get back and scramble the ball off the line. Gosling once again went close soon after but his goalbound effort was deflected wide.

Newcastle brought on some more familiar names in the shape of Shola Ameobi, Danny Simpson, Davide Santon, Demba Ba, Jonas Gutierrez along with new boy Gael Bigirimana but it was to no avail and the score remained at 1-0.

At this stage of the season it’s not the result that is the most important although it is always nice to win games obviously. What was pleasing was seeing so many fringe players involved with so many players who have had injury problems coming through unscathed, the likes of Dan Gosling, Haris Vuckic and Sammy Ameobi I’m referring to.

Next up we face AS Monaco on Monday evening – a game that is, apparently anyway, being featured live on ESPN – where the hard work can hopefully continue ahead of what is a monumental season for us.

Howay the lads!

Chemnitzer FC: Philipp Pentke (G), Fabian Stenzel, Marcel Wilke, Toni Wachsmuth, Thomas Birk, Sascha Pfeffer, Maik Kegel, Carsten Sträßer, Josip Landeka, Benjamin Förster, Anton Fink

Newcastle: Rob Elliot (G), James Tavernier (Danny Simpson 65), Mike Williamson, James Perch, Ryan Taylor (Davide Santon 65), Gabriel Obertan (Jonas Gutierrez, 77), Mehdi Abeid (Gael Bigirimana 65), Dan Gosling, Romain Amalfitano, Haris Vuckic (Shola Ameobi 65), Sammy Ameobi (Demba Ba, 77)

Attendance: 6,700 (featuring approximately 150 NUFC diehards!)

  1. Looks like we created some decent chances to be fair. First game of a long pre-season. Just the start, nowt to panic about 😉

  2. That’s reet Pootle, both 6pm kick offs. Well worth subscribing for two months (they do rolling contracts on ESPN) then cancelling it, cos they’re showing two of our games in August as well.

    …did yee gan Toonsy?

  3. …my heart sank when I saw the scoreline last night anyway, then I saw the line-up. As Toonsy says, nowt to worry about. Monaco should be a bit different I think…

  4. Agree Toonsy – I’m pleased he went with the new boys and young uns for this one as well. Makes sense to see what he has at his disposable when it comes to squad depth.
Defo need a CB in place of Perch and would like to see a young LB come in for development rather than Raylor being ask to play out of position there. That’s not me slating those players, just think those are 2 areas I believe we are short on. Would have liked to see Streete get a run out alongside Williamson.

  5. I never really take much from the pre season as imo its just all about getting back up to fitness and trying out a few things

  6. You didn’t really have to resort to name-calling though Toonsy, that’s just immature. 🙄

(I did dig the irony of his post though, well highlighted) 😆

  7. 😳

hahaha, indeed it is FSOTC. I think young Sammy must have felt a bit inferior and all ‘short back and sides’ after Gael signed for us. With both himself and Tiote sporting the illustrious Mr T barnet 😆

Fair play I say. The more the merrier…… 😎

  8. Cheers Hitman, I just bought the fecker this afternoon, only a tenner.

…they’re both arseholes, but I’d love to see Haye knock the fat cont oot. I’ve got a healthy bet on Haye on points, and a couple of cheeky little ones on round 3 and 10.

  9. haye will wipe the floor with this chump, carnt stand the pair of them like, but chisora thinks hes a gangsta like ranger 😆

  10. Hitman, those were my thoughts entirely mate 😆 …although once I start I may well still be up for Khan.

I think Haye will go for the early knockout, and if he doesn’t get it inside 3 he’ll go cautious and aim for points or a 10th round KO. Thing is, Chisora will get in close and probably not give Haye the space he needs to land a right hander. I know Chisora is an ****, but he’s never been put down. He’s a resilient ******. Those were my thoughts anyway.

    Reet, got guests. Laters gators…….

  11. Pre season games all about getting fitness levels up. Performances and results will get better the nearer the season we get.

Would ideally like to have had a couple of first team signings in place by now so they could settle in but you cannot have everything.

  12. This whole Haye v Chisora thing is a joke. Everything that is wrong about boxing nowadays. I reckon Haye will win,and I reckon both will retire after it as they’ve made a packet. Makes you wonder about the randomness of that whole airport thing doesn’t it? 😉

  13. Ice I guess your talking about Tyson 😉
TBH I am not that much into boxing anymore as a lot of the fights are picked especially its not the case of the world ranked 2 gets the 1st shot at the title it more to do with which fight will make the most money

Toonsy why do you keep dropping the avatar and wheres the inspector 😀

  14. **** boxing, Haye and Chav should have been banned for life and Khans a ****!!

I’d like us to have a decent back up keeper, CB, LB and CFs.
Not sure who for a keeper, but would like to have Good, Douglas, Cissokho, Guidetti or Rhodes. Those in along with Debuchy and we would be good to go I think 😉

  17. The most important thing is to come through the pre-season games unscathed. Saylor and Marveaux are still being protected by the coach, I would have expected them both to be further along the recovery trail by now. Took it for granted that Collo and Saylor would be our starting back 2, Saylor needs to be getting the games in NOW if you ask me… 🙁

  18. Icedog those Ali/Frazier fights were something else in those days. The whole country or even the world, stopped to watch those fights. Immense…

      (Quote)

  19. Ice but after that fight we still had some great fighter lots of real good lighter boxers but a few top heavy weights IMO Tyson was one of the best pound for pound fighters ever I only wish Forman was younger when he fought him because I think that would have been a cracking fight.
As for on my knees I have sealed the floors twice so thats that job finished 😉 and will have earned me brownie points cause i’m going to tell her it took a couple of hrs when infact it took me 30 mins 😉

  20. DAVE tyson was a animal had as much class as richie had hair,,none, get nee brownie points off me you have been on all day, batty would have sacked you by now 😀

  21. Dave thanks for putting that eminem right, he knaas nowt… 🙁

Andymag I hope so mate, cos he needs to get the games under his belt after missing a lot of last season. Pardew reckons he’s looking in great shape, just needs to get the mental toughness, and that only comes with getting the games in. He’s gonna have Adebayor and Dzeko jumping all over him in a month or so…

      (Quote)

  22. Ice yeah but he was one fuking talented animal 😉
I haven’t been on all day as I had to pop down to make my dinner and I was sealing my floors which is a real hard job 😀 😀 as you have to get down on your hands and knees and wipe the whole floor with sealer then rinse the cloth out and stay of the floor for a couple of hrs 😆 now thats hard work

  23. On Saylor at 1st I was worried when I read he had a hamstring prob but I think its a common prob when you comeback from a long term injury

      (Quote)

  24. DAVE kna all aboot it been there done that, plus batty only gives you a hour nee lunch breaks a jam samwich eaten on the move 😉

  25. Seems like Eliott did alright and made one decent save. I hope people will give him a bit of a chance because some seemed to have him written off after one game. 😕

      (Quote)

  26. DJG i had him written before he came, saw a fair bit of him,was on tv like, but dont like him, played well at forrest didnt he 😀

      (Quote)

  27. DJG i mean where he had 5 thumped past him,aye he came from charlton wish he would gan back 😀

  28. See PSG have confirmed the signing of Silva from AC Milan for around £35m!!!
Mad that like, but would it be worth a cheeky bid for Sakho now??? … a cheeky £5-7m might just get him like

      (Quote)

  29. Sharpy
Would love for us to get Sakho for under 7m. More concerned that Sunderland might sign Guidetti, they’d have an absolute gem if they got him.

      (Quote)

  30. Andy – I didn’t realize the scum were after him as well?!. The papers reckon they are after Anita as well I think

      (Quote)

  31. ANDYMAG Guidetti is decent but needs too learn alot he is very hot headed in the same way as Bellamy when he was with us . I have read a couple of times in the press here in Holland over the last couple of days that we are in for Wilfried Bony from Vittese Arnhem ,hope its true he has a turn of pace on him ala Obi Martens and knows where the goal is .

  32. Another quiet day on the transfer front…. need a signing to lift the mood some …
