Debuchy looking for a way out of Lille
However he revealed that Lille are looking for a replacement before letting him go, which is frustrating the 26-year-old France international.
Newcastle and Inter Milan have both been credited with interest in Debuchy, something that he confirms below, and there has even been news of a bit from Newcastle which was rejected by the Lille board. Debuchy though is hoping that Lille are looking for a reasonable fee stating the fact that he is just a defender and probably won’t attract the huge fee that Lille are looking for.
“This is one of my priorities,” he told L’Equipe when asked about interest from Newcastle. “Inter also enquired about me,” he added as he distanced himself from a move to Inter Milan.
“Lille can refuse any insufficient offers. The clubs must reach an agreement. That is not yet the case. Newcastle have already proposed €5 million. I do not know how much the directors of Lille are seeking. I am a defender. An extraordinary offer cannot be expected.”
Debuchy then stated his desire to leave Lille and denied recent reports which suggested that he was willing to sign a contract extension at Stade Lille-Metropole.
“My wish is to leave. I want to experience another league. I recently read that I would have extended my contract until 2016. This upset me. It is not true. I hope that in the coming days, and not weeks, things will settle,” he said.
“I want to leave LOSC. The coach wants to keep me here, but I will not change my mind. I still keep that hope. I will try to go elsewhere.”
He added: “Right now I’m stuck at Lille, depending on the arrival of another player. LOSC want to find my replacement before I am released.”
“Ten, 15 players have been suggested but I am still here, and it disappoints and bothers me. It’s been 20 years that I have been here and I have never asked for anything. For once I want to discover something else.”
Sounds like this particular deal isn’t too far away from happening anyway…

He’s basically telling them that he’s not happy being there and forcing their hand, which they should accept that it’s pointless keeping a player who clearly wants to try another league, (the Prem and Newcastle Hopefully)
I hope this deal goes through because that gives us an absolute cracking back line and two full backs that can bomb on up the field as well in him and Santon.
If we can snare him and Douglas, plus maybe Carroll, I think it would be excellent business this summer.
I’d really like to see this Debuchy over the line first and foremost though with any other signings as a nice tasty added bonus as long as no more players are shipped out, unless of course they are bit part players.

I think this deal will run on until the last few days of the transfer window , he wants to come , but Lille want top dollar and are hoping other clubs come in for him to up the price and hope he will sign for them . this guy is well worth 7 mil, after seeing him in action at the euro’s he would fit nicely into an attacking team, he has alot of pace and a great eye for a tackle, if we can get this guy in it will be one hell of a signing, viva la toon.
sounds like Lille need to look at one or two of those 10 to 15 replacements that been suggested to them as they clearly have a restless player on their hands in Debuchy.

I’d like to see him in, although I’d like to see him competing with Simmo for the spot. He may be a very exciting player, but perhaps having a comparison there may finally show how well Simmo’s done for us. Not spectacular, not flash – but well.
It was the same with Santon. Great on paper, fancy sounding name, very flash (Italian so must be good, right?) but soon shown to be very green, and suddenly Raylor wasn’t such a slouch after all. Now we have at least two good LB options.

Carroll is just another overated English striker, that only really has the ability to play ping pong with his head.
He failed at Liverpool because they didn’t play to his strengths, yet people want him back here so we can revert back to hoof ball, after we have progressed so far.
Those who think he is “better than we give him credit for” because they feel he can play a bit not just header a ball are wrong… If he could play with the ball on the deck he wouldn’t have failed at Liverpool.
He is an excellent header of the ball and has good work rate. Other than that he is average to below average in footballing terms/technique.

I can see santon being used at home where we will look to attack more but away games we will go with raylor as he holds his position better and gives us a better balance to hit teams on the counter.
Agree with an earlier post we may realise how much we depend on simmo when we have a rb who is more attack minded, which in turn gives our cb’s more to do.
Belter, no reason why we couldn’t play Simmon away from home with Debuchy ahead of him, and Santon on the left with Jonas ahead of him.

Well De Jong has now signed for BMG 15 million Euros ,shame i would have loved too have seen him join us but fair do’s they have CL we don’t .

JJ it all depends on the formation because if we only play 3 in midfield then he will go with cabaye tiote and jonas. If debuchy comes in i cant see simmo staying anyways not after he played virtually every prem game last season.
I think it’s pretty clear that Debuchy probably won’t be playing his football in Lille next season. He’s obviously trying to force the club’s hand and get a deal pushed through, which is good news for Newcastle. Let’s just hope that they can bring in a replacement quickly so that we can agree a deal and the contract signed. Personally, I think Debuchy would be a great buy. He will offer us far more quality going forward than Danny Simpson and should provide some great ammunition for Cisse and Ba (and potentially Carroll too). It does seem like there’s a breakthrough imminent and it will be a great piece of business if he ends up on Tyneside.

I think you have to look at the impact AC had when he came on for England. If the other players had put in the same amount of effort we’d have done a lot better. He played like he used to for us: constant threat, great tracking back and defending, bullying the bejeesus out of defenders.
We don’t have anyone like that right now. Admittedly, we don’t have a small, quick striker like Sturridge either. The key questions are: Do Chelski want shot of Sturridge, and does Sturridge desperately want to play for the Toon?

The fact that AC relied so much on Barton and Nolan – the players positioned closest to him – shows that he never was much for hoofball. He did his best work when the ball was already in their third of the pitch. His first touch from long balls isn’t even that good!

This is the same guy that scored a totally sweet left footer playing for us against Liverpool, i still remember the set piece against Arsenal he was unplayable, what a goal! There is not a Toon fan in this life that was not devestated when big AC was let go, the fact is this player in black and white is the man who became the most expensive british player of all time and 18 months later, esecially for the price being touted i would take him back in a heart beat. He produced a header in the euros that was pure class so there is know way anyone can say he isnt top drawer when on his game. How he can even be compared to Cisse who is in a league of his own is beyond me but put these two together they would be a total handful for any team on the planet. Pardrew knows he will be able to bring star quality out of Carrol once more and i trust him 100%. Get Debuchy, Douglas, Anita, Carrol and we will easily be ready for a top 6 challenge aswell as a chance to chase a cup for sure imo.

Andy Carroll showed signs of massive potential. That potential meant he was rated at 35mil by Liverpool. Massively over priced.
I still believe he has great potential, but he has gone backwards since joining Liverpool due to lack of playing time.
If we signed him for 12-13mil, Is say fair enough. But anything more I just believe we could get far better.
Re Debuchy – I think he feels Lille are dragging there heels finding his replacement, like it’s not THEIR priority (probably coz they have all the Hazard money to spend). I think he’s said this to try and hurry them along. I don’t think there is any fear he won’t eventually join but he’ll want to join us now to be part of pre-season training and friendlies.
Re Carroll – it now looks like Liverpool are doing a Twente and moving the goal posts. Carroll reps have also said he doesn’t want to leave Lpool, and doesn’t even really want a loan move by the sounds of things.
I personally don’t want to see Carroll back to Newcastle. I want new faces in, without the baggage, someone who wants a new experience like Debuchy and someone who wants to come and make a name for themselves for the right reasons – like Tiote and Cabaye have.
I’m not a romantic, I don’t have a soft spot for Andy Carroll. He was poor for Lpool most of last season and I don’t believe he’s going to be awesome just coz he’s back at Newcastle.
The team has improved in every way since he’s left. On his day he’s a good player, I admit that, but I don’t think he’s right for us where we are now.

Cos Cisse is the best of the 3. He would obviously play.
Since Cisse arrived and Ba has had to drop back he has been pretty inneffective.
Who knows how Carroll and Cisse would perform together but I feel Carroll is better at retaining the ball and feeding others.
Ba would be a direct replacement for Cisse if injured or resting. There could be over 60 games this season and we need 3 top forwards.

Ba was only ineffective playing on the left. As you’ve stated Cisse is the best so Carroll would also be forced to play on the left…
Would you not prefer it if we spend that kind of money that it be on someone who would be more effective out wide or in the centre? If so Carroll isn’t the man.

Andy Carroll is NOT a target man. He’s a beast in the air, namely from set pieces and can finish smartishly and powerfully-however, his passing, initial touch, take downs from the chest and even knock downs are pretty bloody poor.
Does nobody remember in the initial prem season-we switched to 442 and used SHOLA behind Carroll because he can actually pass and hold up the ball, and even provide good through balls or passes as he proved last season. Shola and Best are actually both better “target men” but obviously andy is far more dangerous from set pieces.
People expect us to be able to use this “big man small man” combo with Carroll and Cisse…well Suarez is a lot smaller, faster and more nimble than Cisse and that partnership provided sweet fuck all.
Lik I said, we have Ba and Cisse to cover the centre.
Ben Arfa and Marveaux for out wide. Id like someone to challenge them, someone who can play upfront or out wide comfortably.
That is why we wanted De Jong. There must be someone else similar to him.
Carroll would be a different “option” but for the quoted price, he is way too expensive. He isn’t exactly versatile.

JJ-Exactly…a wing forward is precisely what we need given that we still can’t be sure what Marveux will be likely and Benny is essentially our only wing forward. Ba should still be given some time out there as I think he was just quite unlucky last season…and the continuous rotation between those two did confuse defences.
Obertan and Jonas just aren’t good enough for those positions in an attacking sense-fergie and sammy may be able to give it ago but we still only have that one senior player…..someone like Maiga would actually be decent right about now….

Robert – the stupid thing is that Cole hasn’t even made a complaint! For me it’s just a washed up footballer (Rio) desperate to hold the headlines, coz his career is almost over at Man Utd now like.
Toonsy – my concern with the Carroll thing is that this could be another case of chasing a striker that is never gonna come off, just like LDJ. This could be case of no CF in this window but the clubs coming out saying ‘well we tried hard to bring a CF in, we went for LDJ and Carroll but they just didn’t come off’, yet they knew all along they would.
We have suggested before they have decoy targets to throw rivals of the scent of our main targets, but could this be the board using these players as decoys for the fans, knowing that they have no intention of bringing a CF in?
Or maybe Carroll is the decoy for the CF we are actually going for?

@99- pretty well said. I just worry that he is the type of player that can only really thrive as a lone striker who is the focal point of an attack. He seems to have been at his best with Nolan playing that roving role alone behind him. I just think he’ll take up the space that should be for Cisse/Ba.
I know LPool is trying to save face here but these demands are ridiculous for a player that’s scored 20 Prem goals and had a 4/35 ratio last year

Like TC said, we won 7 from 10, scored 16 goals and finished with the 6th highest goals scored in the entire league, with two strikers who played less and scored nearly ten times the goals than magical mythical Andy Carroll scored
It was actually our defence that let us down last season more than anything….
The ‘dippers are trying to sign Walnut allegedly. He has a better scoring record than Judas and he’s not even a CF, plus most of his appearances have been as sub. Personally I’d rather we tried to sign him if Le Arse are willing to let him go. He’d be better suited to our new system than Judas anyway.

I think I have ashley’s plan figured out here: sign Carroll for 10M or so, let him bag 10-12 goals as our third striker while he continues to grow more and more overrated by getting caps as the England number 9, then sell him for a profit to another a desperate club with an antiquated transfer policy, then repeat this process over and over until he Ashley’s loan to the club repaid in full.
It’s win win- we have a quality 3rd striker who can help get us through the cups, a crowded fixture list, and ACoN while at the same time giving the club the best financials in world fotball
I think ashleys plan is nothingto do with bringing AC home at all. The scouse info says we onyl went in with an offer of a season long lone and that was with them subsidising his salary.. what kind of offer is that?? They would never say yes to that. Dekka and Ashely dont want AC back, they just want to have some nice free positive publicity with the NUFC fans.

HBA wasn’t fancied by Pardew at right mid. And flourished on the right of an attacking 3. So playing both Carroll and Cisse would also affect HBA’s game.

Toonsy I don’t think our defence were actually bad. Our clean sheet record was fantastic. It’s just that without Saylor we were too brittle and succumbed to pressure or conceding an early goal.
Need Tiote to step up as a big, vocal leader this year, helping ensure heads don’t drop so easily.

MDS-Precisely. Don’t get me wrong, the lad is a monster when the team is built around him…but we just don’t play that way anymore. We’ve made the shift to a more fluid formation where goals can come from across the board-a much more prospect-and far more exciting as well.
Mark@109-Exactly…Carroll is good at defending set pieces mind, but Cisse and especially Ba can track back and actually set up good counter attacking opportunites-I loved our counter attacking in the second half of last season, great to watch and very effective. Carroll on the counter though? Just doesn’t happen.

Just don’t see Carroll fitting back into the squad now. We would never pay him 80K a week and why should he take a huge pay cut when he can keep collecting it off the bindippers? The idea of a loan is clever on our part but we wouldn’t get him for 12 or 13M if he played well. This one just doesn’t add up. Focus on our real needs Ashley, a CB, a RB, and a quick forward who is good with his feet to complement Ba and Cisse. I suspect this is all a distraction while we make progress elsewhere (at least I hope that is the case).

I’m a bit lost with Barfa. We have to accommodate somewhere in the team but his best position is still unknown. He performed brilliantly on the wing during some games and anonymous in others. But it had to be expected due to his long lay off.
I expect more consistency this season.
I would like to see him tried as an attacking midfielder. Wherever, he must be a major part of our plans.
If we leave him out then it will be like leaving Glenn hoddle and le tissier out the England team.

I think we’ve agreed about our needs for a while ice @138 and based on the players we’ve been after so far (other than Carroll) I think Pardew is on the same wavelength. He knows he badly needs a CB. Playing Perch or Simpson there in friendlies is pointless as neither has the size or skill to play there in the real games. As it stands an injury to Colo would be a disaster. I hope the Douglas signing is just delayed by his papers. Keeping fingers crossed we don’t lose any of our top players including Ba who was a monster in the first half of last season.

It just doesn’t make sense to me to be so thin at CB when we can all name close to a dozen wingers and midfielders in the team now. What is going on? Does anyone in management voice any concerns about this longstanding problem? Surely Carver and Pardew realize this can be a huge problem. One incoming CB will help but to be honest we need several young prospects at those positions as well. This mucking about with Carroll just seems ridiculous to me unless Newkie is right and we are going to play Carroll at CB!

Are you serious CC @ 156? That is terrible news! Is this why we have been playing Simpson and Perch at CB? We know from last season that won’t work. No offense to Perch, he is a decent DM as a bench player but that is it. Simpson is too short by far. Why didn’t we go after Mariappa again? All the fuss is about attacking players but we had plenty of trouble at the back once Saylor went down last season. A lot of big talk about spending from Pardew but who have we actually brought in? He seems to be pulling himself away from the Carroll business which I think is wise. Focus on the real priorities, Carroll is just for the rags to have a few headlines.
On the Saylor hammy it is very common for players coming back from longterm injury to pick up these niggles so I don’t think it’s too much to worry about, but it just highlights how weak we are in that area because the only other one we have for back up is Willo the wisp and he has better wrestling skills than defensive skills, and imo is a liability, it surprises me how little stick he get compared to the likes of Simmo
Craig – players coming back from long term (4 month+) injuries always pick up little niggles and strains as they get near a comeback. The muscles get weakened from so long without the intensive work out they get when they come back. Only natural

Dubtoon @165, the thing is it’s not just a matter of bringing in one CB and everything is sorted. We have very little depth at all for those positions and we seem to spend very little time pursuing youngsters at those positions. How many decent prospects under 25 do we have in the central midfield? I think there are at least 6. How many decent prospects under 25 do we have at CB? There might be one or two. How does this add up? We will play a lot of games next season and we should be bringing in some youngsters to look at now. I realize Goode is probably signed but let’s bring in a few more.
G2 completely agree, but i remember the big issue about the restructuring of the reserves and academy was llamb/ash questioning why there was nobody in the system that could step up to the plate last season when injuries hit the defense. It’s definitely an issue. Streete sounds very promising and hopefully the young aussie comes as you say but apart from that the best prospect is tav, and i have reservations about him when he hasn’t played for us at 21.
I’m encouraged that they’ve acknowledged the issue but like you say, something does need to be done. With young players though you can always be, and need to be in many cases, more patient than getting someone to play in the first team.

Dubtoon and Big Dave I’m hoping Carr is spending some of his time looking for decent prospects for defense. We seem to carry a lot of players who look promising at 18 but just disappear as they get older. Can remember quite a few over the last 6 or 7 years. I thought it was a bold move to let so many of the younger players go but when are the replacements coming in? It has surprised me we haven’t seen more signings of 18-21 year olds. Tavernier may go the way of so many others and it can be a mistake assuming the grass is always greener with youngsters from other countries. What is Peter Beardsley’s remit now? Isn’t he supposed to be looking after young strikers? Who are they exactly and who does the same for young defenders? Anyone able to help us with this?

You could be right Toonsy @171 but on what basis do you say that? I saw him a few times last season and he looked decent although I agree it wasn’t at Prem level. Maybe we will find out this season as we watch him play for Reading. Time will tell.

Spot on Big Dave @175. I don’t think we have ever made enough good loans. A perfect example is Dan Gosling. He should have been loaned out last season. I think Abeid and Vuckic are in the same boat. Get them lots of playing time at a decent level, then have another look at them. I’m sure there are others as well.
agree on the loan issue. the exception has been Tavernier who has played like 50-something first team matches for other clubs. I’m not sure the croweded fixture list will allow it this year though….
Problem with loans is that any club at a decent level will want to see the player play at a decent level before putting some faith in him and loaning him. Like Jack Wilshere showed he can do it in the Premier League, as did Tom Cleverley, and both were made available to loan to Premier League teams and were taken by one. Our lads haven’t had that chance, which is a lot to do with fan pressure and also a bit to do with them just not being good “enough” to win a place in the side in a league game.
That’s why they end up on loan at lower league teams and if they impress, like Tavernier, and prove themselves they end up being loaned by “better” teams
GEORDIETWO we arn’t long after buying yet another MF in Bigiramana and to me the only difference between him and some of our own younguns with potential is that he had the benefit of proper footie with 26 games last season , fuk our younguns would be lucky to get a handful of games

The difference is that our club relies on the youngsters for depth, and especially will do this year. You might be able to send out Abeid and Gosling, but I think Fergie, Vuckic, Bigi and Tavs will be needed this year
It’s a good debate. I think we should try to make loans to decent Championship sides. Our young uns don’t get the headlines that ManU, Arsenal etc young uns do. It’s possible ours don’t have the skills but we don’t seem to give some of them a good enough chance with a decent run of games. I agree completely about Bigirimana Big Dave he prospered by playing a lot last season. How many games did Gosling get at any level?
Gosling was a special case. I think he would have got more games but he got injured after the Mackem I game and was out for a while. Then they treated him real carefully and pretty much wrote off last season barring a few appearances at the end. I reckon this season is make or break for him though

Vuckic looked tidy at Cardiff as well but we pulled him back after Bests injury didn’t we? These players simply have to feature this season…will be interesting if Vuckic could fit in a 4-3-3 in Cabaye’s advanced playmaker role? Or slightly out wide? Though neither would be ideal for him.
Newkie- I think he is best playing off a lone striker or on the wing in a 3-man front. I just don’t think he has the speed to be a realy effective CM. But he seems to really have class in the final 3rd

Every player likes to receive offers but in my case the president did not want to sell” which says to me there were some problems. Apart from owt else why would the club need an excuse to pull out and risk a lawsuit? at that stage nowt would have been signed so a simple “We’ve changed our mind” would have done the trick….apart from owt else no matter how well he does he isn’t a patch on Cisse and getting both was never an option.

Re ,Carroll ,I read yesterday that Liverpool are mighty pissed at us for making the loan bid public .I think MA did it so as to make the Dippers declare their true intentions regarding AC.It seems to have worked as we now know that they don’t really want him at all and want to sell.More to the point AC now knows where he stands ,it seems to me Pool are in a impossible situation and all the pressure is on them as I can’t see too many clubs willing to part with in excess of £13/14m for him. Question is how much of a hit are they willing to take.
