Three deals being worked on – Pardew

Pardew hopeful on new signings
Alan Pardew has come out today and said that three deals are being worked on by the club as they look to add depth and quality to the squad in preparation for the new season.

Naturally the naming of names is something that has been avoided although I’d imagine we can pretty much guess who the three players are – Andy Carroll, Mathieu Debuchy and either Vurnon Anota or Douglas. Or maybe it’s none of them?

The other pleasing thing is that Pardew says we are considering all players who become available over the summer. That’s not to say we’ll suddenly be spending swathes of cash, but instead we will consider of a player is of any value to us and whether it’s worth trying to make a deal happen for.

“Any big player or good player that comes to the table, we need to be involved in it,” Pardew told The Chronicle.

“We need to know what is going on. What is the price? Can we do it, can we afford it? If we can’t we go somewhere else.”

“We want the best quality players and at the moment we have three possible transfers actively being pursued in terms of bids and trying to get a deal where the other club gets what they want and we get what we want.”

As it should be, only the best for Newcastle United, and if they can pull it off I’ll be happy enough with what has been achieved in the transfer market.

Anyway only a short one today folks as I’ve got a bit on today. Who are the three and have we a chance of actually seeing the turn up at St James’ Park? Is three enough?

Comments, as always, welcome…

  1. Good to hear, hopefully one of those deals cn be wrapped up before the end of next week as I’m getting really bored with just “Newcastle closing in” …and the like.

  2. Anyone else see the Q and A with Jose Enrique on twitter? Was hijacked by toon fans, taking the **** 😆 . Go on that site ‘the Mag’, they’ve kind of summed it up. Worth a look, some of it is quite good and he actually answered one of them

  3. I would like the three to be a CD preferably M’Baiwa or Sakho although I would expect Douglas. A CDM to play alongside Tiote when away from Home Anita has been mentioned. And an attacking player a WAM eg Affeley.

To me Debuchy we only need if Simmo leaves, although I accept that he may be an improvement. Big Andy is an obvious explore until it ain’t worth it scenario as Pardew talks about. Possibly a 2nd striker eg Guidetti. But who cares. Doesn’t matter. Whoever turns up will be most welcome. And well researched.

  4. I wonder if we can offer Huddesfield 4m + Ranger for Rhodes. He’d be great to have to come off the bench when we need him to. We can ease him in to the PL by having Shola ahead of him in the pecking order, so he’d get a taste of the PL and we’d play him in League Cup games against weaker teams.

  5. There’s talk that Moussa Cissokho could be available. That lad is good in defense AND attack out of the center of midfield. He could be like our Yaya Toure!
Although after already bringing in Amalfitano and Bigi, I doubt we would bring in another center mid, unfortunately.

We definitely need another center back though

  6. As fast as we can sign them, as fast as they can adapt in our team.

Actually I wanna see we get all of demand signings and use pre-season training to get them but it never be that case.

Think your thinking of Sissoko from Tolouse, he’ll cost to much for a position that we’re rich in, also bigger clubs are after him and they’d win in a bidding war.

  8. Great work by the scouting system, so effective that none have been signed and we will now consider any decent player who becomes available, not Carrs fault but if the club will not stump up the cash for the players who Carr believes can take us forward what is the point of having Carr, he is being wasted, if the club value Leon Best and Douglas at the same price then we have no chance of getting decent players in.

  9. I dn’t know why we’re working so hard to get Douglas who Twente want to keep, when we could be going after Sakho who PSG are willing to offload. Sakho is younger and is probably better, also he doesnt have a history of going batsh1t on the pitch. He would only cost 1 or maybe 2 million more that Douglas but would be worth it.

      (Quote)

  10. Also if we were to secure douglas we’d have to wait until mid-late August before he could join up with the team, whereas we could get Sakho amongst our largely french-contingent straight away 😕 .

  11. More lip service to keep the frustrated fans at bay? …. probably not, but bore of hearing this **** now, just get on with it man!

I see Fulham and West Ham are now linked with Douglas today.
Debuchy would be a good buy as he could play RB and RW for us I think.
Personally I’d prefer Sakho to come in over Douglas, I think he’s a better player and could come in now rather than waiting til Aug for Douglas.
Attacking option and I think I’ve made it clear that I don’t really want Carroll back.
Personally I’d like to see us go all out and get Hiollet. Failing that I’d like to see Guidetti or a similarly young strong out and out CF.

  13. I wonder if we could offer Lille James Tavanier on loan for the season as part of the Debuchy deal, would give him first team experience in a more competitive league and would solve Lille’s need for a RB replacement.

      (Quote)

  14. well, i presume that the three he is on about are not carroll, debuchy and douglas as we have.. had a loan moved openly told it was a joke by liverpool…offered 6 quid for douglas and 4 million euro for debuchy. so clearly they are not our serious deals. they must be smoke screens to hide from the real ones.. i mean AP has just said if any top draw player comes up for grabs we want to be involved in it…i guess that means a world class top draw player at er… championship prices though alas. We did very well getting those guys last year for sure but they wont get as lucky this time round nad for once we may have to either pay the going rate or lower our bracket of player we are looking at.

My dream is still@ continue playing the formation we were playing at the back end of last season, push Cabaye back and play him alongside Tiote in place of Jonas, move HBA to the centre instead of Cabaye behind of Cisse, bring in a new right mid, ideally Hoillet.

Cabaye is incredible defensively. He’s very good playing behind the striker, but I don’t think he could be one of the worlds best in that position. However he could be a world class deep midfielder in the role of Alonso or someone.

  16. Slant @12 – are you on a wind-up or what? Do you see any big teams out there who have signed up their players already?

Honestly – how good – how unutterably brilliant – does our recruitment team and strategy have to be before they get credit from some people? We’re the envy of the sodding world for recruitment, but still in comes the stick.

    Wow. Weapons-grade muppetry.

How many times has Pards said something along these lines recently . I’m well over it now ,less talk more action please .I don’t wanna know how many we are in for, I just want them over the line for christ sake .Talk is cheap and means **** all if we don’t follow through. 👿

  19. Andy – Rhodes for Ranger +4m would be a cracking deal for us, particularly if we could get someone like Guidetti in aswell.
Debuchy, Sakho, Rhodes and Guidetti would really improve the first team options but still leave plenty of room for youth development

  21. Sharpy – I’ve no idea who the **** Sakho, Rhodes and Guidetti are or what they play like, but they sound like big time charlies.

  22. Solano-I reckon Cabaye is better as the “forward” in the midfield three, he’s got a great shot on him and his passing through the defence is brilliant. He’s a bit wasted when he’s pushed back, his tackling is awesome but we lose a lot of creativity when he’s sat deep-although in the 4-3-3 I thought he roamed well enough.

I’m not sure if Benny is selfless enough to play as an actual playmaker but I would like to see him given a shot this season.

  23. Whumpie@22 We are all aware of our recent success and quality signings ,but we have needed a beefed up defence for I don’t know how long now ,yet it never seems to be properly addressed from what I can tell . We can’t be sure we’ve actually bid for any defenders as nothing as been comfirmed by the club has it .We keep reading about this bid and that bid all of which are so low as to be disrespectfull to the selling club at times. I’m all for a bargain but bloody hell ,if some of the bids quoted are true it’s **** taking on a grand scale and just gonna **** off the selling clubs imo. Frankly if someone offered me £1k for my car when it’s worth £5k ,I’m gonna be very p’d off ,wouldn’t you. Other clubs arn’t struggling to sign quality players ,so why cant we ,that’s all I’m saying.

  24. B&B…if it helps it’s 19.30 ko local time where I am too 😉

So are people believing the papers that we have bid £3.1m for Douglas? then I take it they still believe those very same papers who said we’d had a £5m bid for him accepted a while back?….or maybe people will be better adopting the sensible approach and take everything in the papers/internet with a pinch of salt as they know the same as the rest of us, which is **** all 🙄

  25. If we get linked with a class centre back going by the name of Steel, Charlton, Buchan, Armstrong, Watson or something hard and British like that, then I’ll get interested. HWTL.

      (Quote)

  26. Richietoon, for sure.. but it was debuchy himself who said we had offered 4 million euro and rogers hat said our offer of a loan was a joke. The Douglas deal…well, who is to say we are even interested at all?
Solanotrumpet…simmo’s worth… well at present with just coming to less than a year on his contract.. not alot m8. maybe we could get 3 million for him tops. i dont know. However, a debuchy on longer term.. has to be worth the 7 million.

      (Quote)

  27. Craig….I suspect Rodgers came out and said that cos he’s had his **** chewed, seeing as he was the one who said he was open to AC going out on loan in the first place and now he’s backtracking like **** so the only embarrassments his……according to the papers that is 😉

I think we’ll get Debuchy, possibly Douglas tho not that arsed about him though a decent CB is a must and **** knows which striker we’ll get…if any 😐

      (Quote)

  28. Obviously we can’t be sure what we have bid except in cases where somebody makes it public.
We can however be reasonably sure we haven’t bid enough if the player concerned isn’t discussing a contract or getting a medical, or if the clubs haven’t announced they’ve agreed a fee.

      (Quote)

  29. B&B – 😕 😆 😆

Well thanks for that, input/opinion based purely on their names I take it 😆

Kim – you’re spot on, no one is taking anything way from what signings we’ve made in the past. But let’s not sit back in admiration at deals we’ve done in the past while our competitors are improving their squads now. I agree with everything ya saying – it is very frustrating!

      (Quote)

  30. @Craig so why do you think the offer we “apparently made” for Douglas is so outrageous?
We know you have to pay premium for English players.
Simmo is proven in the Prem and was the second best defender for a club that finished 5th.
Douglas has only one more year left on his contract also.

    It’s all paper talk anyway!

      (Quote)

  31. Solano, I admire your blind loyalty for Simpson, if he is that good, can you tell me what he is good at?

      (Quote)

  32. Robert, i think simmo is good tbh and i wish he was staying. he goal line clearances alone last season have put us in europe. Unfortunatly he wont sing on again so we need to get rid.. i would be just as happy getting santon on the right and peiters on the left.

      (Quote)

  33. Sky is reporting that West Ham and Fulham have put bids in for Douglas now.
We can’t compete against big spending clubs, I suppose this will end our interest?

      (Quote)

  34. Not sure who mentioned Sahko or even why they did but he is a legend! Debuchey and a centre back and I would be happy.

      (Quote)

  35. Robert my only point there was that Simmo shouldn’t really be worth less than Douglas. So our offer for a CB that’s out of contract next year, and unproven in any of the top league isn’t actually too bad.

Didn’t you claim Simpson was “one of the worst defenders we’ve ever had” yesterday? He has got pace, rarely gets beaten by a man, good anticipation, good at tackling, great at working in unison with those around him (i.e. the major thing Santon struggled with last year).

Yes he doesn’t offer much going forward. But I think we shouldn’t be blinded by someone like Santon having a decent dribble upfield when his job his first and foremost to defend. Which he was worse at than Simpson last season. Even more telling considering he had Jonas and Colo next to him compared to Simpson who had HBA and Willo!

Also, six clearances off the line last year! I know people will roll out the, “a better RB wouldn’t let it get that far” but that is bull.

      (Quote)

  36. Simmo does do plenty of running as well-the amount of times he overlaps gives Benny or others the space to run into and work their magic. Obviously he gets slated for it when he doesn’t sprint back and prevent a goal that’s clearly his fault though, and its perfectly fine for Santon to walk back or go missing after a forward run 🙄

Didn’t Simmo have the most accurate crosses last season as well? Just saying… 😉

      (Quote)

  37. Good at tackling? I must have missed that game, seriously, drop the goal line clearance ***** and tell me what he brings to the team apart from leaving a yawning gap where he is supposed to defend, and dont blame anyone else.

      (Quote)

  38. Regarding incoming transfers, the window is still open for a while yet, and it looks like we’ll have to be pretty patient before we get a breakthrough. I’ve no problem with that, though obviously some guys on here are getting a bit twitchy cos he haven’t gotten anyone “over the line” yet.

Still 12 days or so to go before Ba’s release clause becomes defunct. I’ll be happy when that is the case tbh… He looked good against Monaco, would love him to stay and get all this speculation out of the way……..or we sell him for 20 mill at the beginning of August… 🙄

      (Quote)

  39. Simmo’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t really look comfortable on the ball, and his distribution isn’t too good. But as a defender he does a better than average job imo, and the goal line clearances from last season are a hall mark of his.

It would be a pity if he left, and I’m sure that as soon as the Debuchy move goes through he’ll be offski to Reading. He’s probably got that scenario covered already..

      (Quote)

  40. southhamton look to be doing there bit in the transfer window likes of them and reading westham are all leaving us behind make a 1o mil offer for sturridge we could get him for that 5 mil for douglas and peiters would come to the toon thats 3 players we would get with no stupid offers offer the price they are worth instead of trying to get every one on the cheep does any one no the situation with hoilet

      (Quote)

  41. Munich-
Aye, Simmo’s passing is pretty average and he often seems unsure about himself when he’s got the ball-not like santon who gets his head down and starts sprinting, Simmo always seems quite cautious. Which I guess is good in that he doesn’t get caught with the ball, but it also means he tends to hoof it when he comes under pressure.

      (Quote)

  42. Prem @48 If those stats are correct theres not much between them apart from the fact Debuchy may pick up more cards than simmo and Debuchy is more attacking . Very strange ,wouldn’t of had them that close tbh. 😯

  43. get the players in the door asap andy the long haired muppit should come home and drink some brown ale in the strawberry  ! if we get debuchy, douglas, anita and carroll the word will be pimpn 😆 obertan is balls get him out and hoillet in 👿

      (Quote)

  44. Robert @ 45 > drop the goal line clearance *****
😆 if we dropped that we wouldn’t be in Europe 😯
I have said many times that I know Danny has his faults like all players but no way is he as bad as some make him out to be.
I asked lastnight but you wern’t back on, If you think Simmo is ***** what do you think of Willo ?

      (Quote)

  45. Moose from talksport says Hoilett had a medical at Qpr on tues……… Little mercenary!!

Little sceptical about all 3 deals because if we get into bidding wars with clubs, more often than not (always) lose!

      (Quote)

  46. Big Dave –

I can see peoples point of view Re Simpson – I think that (considering the skills each position require) Willo is a beast in the air, which is an important attribute for a CB, whereas he might generally be poor, he is good at that, and he is the only one in our team currently who is!

With Simpson, I can’t think of anything he excels at! Goal-line clearances?
I just think he makes people nervous when he has the ball and is a poor attacker.. So i would be more comfortable having Willo play than Simpson this season. People say Willo is a liability but so is Simpson in our 18yard box..

      (Quote)

  47. >>>>>>just read further up and I didn’t realise people already had made those points 😳

      (Quote)

  48. Dave, Williamson is limited too, its just that no one says otherwise and no one gets all sentimental about him like for some strange reason they do for Simpson, who IMO just hasnt got it, he is like a fish out of water at times and the biggest examples of this were his idiotic throw in v Arsenal and when he made a proper idiot of himself for one of the Liverpool goals at Anfield.
I just dont get him at all, when the ball goes across the back 4 to left back the crowd are fine, but going to right back the whole crowd draws its breath as the suicidal ball soon follows.

      (Quote)

  49. BigPapa I would rather stick Simmo in as CB than Willo 😆 😆 as IMO he is a complete liability atleast if Simmo makes a mistake there is usually a CB behind to help but at CB there is only the goalie, and Willo knows all about that because he has scored 2-3 ogs so far Yeah Willo might be able to head the ball but he cant use his feet too well and he still hasn’t learnt that you can’t drag players about or try to wrestle them and that has cost us already

      (Quote)

  50. Robert I think some people feel a bit for Danny because he gets a lot of uncalled for stick, and IMO when one of your own is getting attacked all the time you tend to rally round and defend them ❓ I think I read a while back that the opta stats had him as the 2nd or 3rd place LB last season so I really can’t see how he can be as bad as some say, and yeah I know stats don’t tell the whole story, but for me there has been no one else better to play there so until there is I will try to get behind him

      (Quote)

  51. Dave, Agree, he is all we have got but we can do better in both full back positions, its where all our problems are caused, Santon seems to have a bit of football in him but seems to be getting better but Simpson doesnt seem to have his heart in it any more.

      (Quote)

  52. Robert but Maybe if there was someone there to give Simmo a bit of competition he could up his game as I have always believed that there should be competition for every position, remember Santon got dropped a few times for Raylor and he cameback stronger 😉

      (Quote)

  53. No matter what your views are on Simpson, shouldn’t we be aiming to bring in another RB and still keep him? If he demands to leave for guaranteed first-team football, so be it, there’s not much we can do. But if we want strength in depth, we need to be adding quality to the squad. Debuchy may very well an upgrade over Simpson, but if we bring in Debuchy only to sell Simpson, our squad is no deeper than it was last year.

      (Quote)

  54. Tommy@63

You absolute cynic! Maybe the lad just loves his football and wants somewhere he can play week in week out and constantly improve himself?

    😆

      (Quote)

  55. Well ,the plot thickens as we now know Douglas is not one of the three deals in the pipeline. According to inside football he has been interviewed and stated ” my agent and I know of no bid from Newcastle” he added ” I want to remain at Twente for another year”. So there you have it ,we can put that one to bed. 🙄

      (Quote)

  56. Ice ,it’s fast becoming a right farce.Spend yonks scouting De Jong without even bothering to see if he fancies PL footie 🙄 Then apparently Douglas don’t wanna leave Twente 😯 ,not too sad on that one tbh as you know. And then theres this Debuchy mess with Lille playing hardball and MA likely to walk away from the deal any minute. As for Carroll ,sure that’s not gonna happen .So who the hell are the 3 in the pipeline 😕

      (Quote)

  57. Ice ,I see we’ve had a le mans youngster on trial .19year old Anthony Koura a left sided midfielder come striker .He scored twice for the reserves and is lightening fast apparently. 😎

      (Quote)

  58. Hopefully Douglas saying that he doesnt want to come, will mean that we switch our attention to another CB, like Sakho 😎 😀

      (Quote)

  59. As people such as Kimtoon have raised the issue again and it wasn’t answered previously; excuse me for my ignorance but how would we be allowed to approach a player to see if it is CL that they want before their club says yes?
