Defender deal imminent?

Good to go for NUFC?
Newcastle are looking to concluded a deal for 19-year-old Melbourne Heart defender Curtis Good according to his manager.

Former Coventry City and Portsmouth striker John Aloisi has revealed that Good is set to fly to Newcastle to undergo a medical before completing a move to St James’ Park. If all goes well it is expected that Good will link up with our development squad where he will have the chance to impress and work his way into Alan Pardew’s first team plans.

Good had been on trial with Newcastle United and it was said that Pardew and Co were impressed with the 6ft 2in centre-half although it seemed as though interest had waned in the youngster and talk of a deal cooled off. However rather than cooling off it would appear that our interest has been bubbling away and Good may finally get his move to England in the near future.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for Curtis,” said Melbourne Heart manager John Aloisi. “Newcastle United is one of the biggest clubs in the United Kingdom, and we are absolutely delighted he has the opportunity to test his wares on such a stage.”

Good made his breakthrough last season with Melbourne Heart and made 25 A-League appearances for the club. He will be signed as one for the future so expectations shouldn’t be too high from the start, but players such as Mehdi Abeid, Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic have shown that of you can impress then you will get a shot at the first team which is something I’m sure Good is aiming to do.

Nothing official as yet although it looks as though we may have swelled our defensive options by at least one in the very near future.

  1. Toonsy ,new thread so soon, was just getting into the last one 🙄 😀 .
I have no idea about young Curtis ,never seen him play but if Pards & co rate him he’ll do for me. Good luck to the lad ,hope he does well for the team. 😀

  2. That’s good news  🙄
So a very young, not that experienced Australian CB, I already want him ahead of Williamson in the pecking order 😆

  3. According to Wikipedia Marseille have accepted a £13m bid from us for Loic Remy, chances are it was someone editing the page, as far as Good is concerned, welcome young man, due to our lack of success in the transfer market you may well get more chances in the first team that you were probably expecting, I only hope you are up to the mark, good luck and welcome

  4. SK – said he would stay for a year because he wanted CL wherever he was playing. Bargain at that price but i don’t think we could’ve got him anyway. Talksport aren’t exactly a reliable source either

  5. May have to fill in the first team at right back, centre of defence, midfield and up front seeing as nothing seems to be incoming. Hope he’s versatile!! (Removes tongue from cheek).

  6. In anticipation of a great new defender in our midst and taking my inspiration from ICE@2. To the tune of that Andy Williams classic ,you’re just too GOOD to be true.

He’s just too GOOD to be true
Won’t take his eyes off of you
    he’s got a heavenly touch
he’s gonna block you right off
at long last GOOD has arrived
and we thank god he’s alive
won’t take his eyes off of you
he’s just too GOOD to be true. 😛 😉

    Sorry lads’n’lasses couldn’t resist ,it’s all ices fault. 🙄

  7. Really not keen on the tactics pardew is using talking about liverpool taking a hit, I hate liverpool as much as the next sane man but we are entering harry redknapp territory telling other teams what they can do with their players.

Im sure they are well aware they are going to write off a huge chunk of money by asking £20m for him, He isnt worth it so move on and let nature take its course and watch him end up with a hoofball dinosaur like charva pulis or fat sam.

We are crying out for another senior centre half and seem to be wasting our time trying to steal Carroll for the sort of fee even liverpool arent stupid enough to go for…

  8. Thanks Dubtoon I didn’t realize he would only go to a CL team, hopefully Good turns out to be a great player for us and that we are alsO able to get a first team CB as well that is still our number 1 priority I believe…

  9. I think it’s great news about Good, a very talented defender with a good head on his shoulders and has cost absolute peanuts really.
Was thinking last night that I would like to see Streete, JJ Hooper, Adam Campbell (and now Good as well) feature in the first team by the end of this new season, even if it is just traveling with the team for away games or featuring on the bench. I don’t think they are too far from the step up but they would benefit from the experience and keep them focused.

  10. Well we don’t know much about the lad but we didn’t about Bassong when he arrived , hope he turns out just as Good as him in his first season . 😀

Think it might be a season too soon for Campbell and Hooper, even if it’s just on the bench for a PL match. They need the benefit of playing at a lower league first, my suggestion would be to loan one of them to Carlisle and the other to Hartlepool. They wouldnt be 1st or even 2nd choice strikers there but they’d get game time off the bench in a highly competitive league. Streete on the other hand should travel with the team on the occasional game this season as I believe he’s just about ready. Does anyone know if Streete has been called up for any of the England sides yet?

    Hey, it’s a montage!

  13. It’s also a real pisser missing out on Mbwia for as little as £5.1m like but to be fair, I think he would have always chose AC Milan over us.
Brilliant buy for them though and leaves them afew quid change from the thiago silva sale.

I really hope we can get sorted with either Douglas or preferably Sakho soon rather than later though.

  14. Anyway, back to this new chappie. Very happy to see him arrive; hopefully he will be another Bassong. Still gutted Kadar didn’t work out – thought he was looking good.

  15. pleased ..there are not many left sided centre backs….hope he can make it
still need top class centre back

  16. Good so looks like we are going to bolster the squad with another youngun with potential, just a pity he is from the land of Oz but I guess we all have our crosses to bare.
I just wish they would hurry up and get the quality players in that we need

      (Quote)

  17. Andy – I understand why you say that mate, because they would certainly get a competitive level of football being loaded out. But when you look at the likes of AOC at arsenal and how other clubs allow their young ones to be gradually introduced I think it will make them feel more part of the squad, they wont feel as awkward around the senior players and Streete and Good would learn alot from training with Colo and Saylor, likewise Hooper and Campbell training with Cisse and Ba.
Bring them in now, see how they get on and allow them to see we want them to be part of it all, rather than loan them out and they see us buying other players for their positions.
It also encourages other young kids coming through, and with their age they wont need one of the 25 man squad numbers.

  18. going back to the last thread how can lille and twenty think we have had there trousers down when they agreed the transfer fees 😕

      (Quote)

  19. I agree batty. Lille were the ones to agree to the clause in cab ayes contract and twenty will sell for what the player is worth to them. If tiote was worth 3m to them as a fringe player, they won’t be able to sell him for 10m because they believe he’ll be great in the prem. No one would buy him.

Liverpool on the other hand might have a more legitimate axe to grind 😆

      (Quote)

  20. KIM@9 aye blame me 😀 i dont mind, ime blamed for all the trouble dave makes on here anyway 😉

  21. Sharpy
I think AOC is a better example of what I was trying to prove. He was introduced slowly while Southampton where in league 1 and then eventually became a starter in the Championship, that prepared him for the PL where he’s still usually just an impact sub for Arsenal. That’s what I want to happen with Adam and JJ, except instead of the Championship stage we just gradually introduce them to the PL/league cup.

      (Quote)

  22. Apparantly Ruben Kazan or whatever they’re called have put in a 7.5 million bid for Ba and are offering him 95k a week wages – anyone heard any more about this?

      (Quote)

  23. Andy – I think of all of them, Campbell would be closest to the step up, AOC is only 18 (ish) and playing CL for arsenal and was one of Englands best players in the Euros (imo). I just worry that sending your better young players out on loan all of the time may disillusion them alittle bit. If Pardews sees them as part of the future squad, then get them involved early.
He did it with Fergie and Sammi last year and Tav should have been as well for me like.

      (Quote)

  24. Andy I think they need regular footie at a lower level, there is a massive difference between even the championship and the prem.
I think its unfair on the kids to expect them to progress with a few mins every few games in the prem, if they evenget that much.

      (Quote)

  25. Sharpy
I’m not suggesting we send them out on loan ‘all the time’ just to gain some valuable experience before we throw them into the deep end of the pool where if they perform well we’ll praise them too much and place them on a pedestal or critisise them too the point that they lose all confidence.

      (Quote)

  26. The critisise point was to do if they don’t perform when thrown into the deep end (PL)

      (Quote)

  27. Well sending Krul out on loan too Falkirk and Carlisle united did not do him any harm . Sending them out for season loans is the way to go , lets not forget that their is a lot of older players that have had their day in the premiership that actually still play in the lower leagues , and a season playing alongside these players and at a higher level than the reserve leagues is a good way of them learning the trade .

      (Quote)

  28. Aye alreet, thinking about it, the likes of Sturridge, Wiltshire and Welbeck all were on loan and benefit from it … and I’ve always said our young players should go out on loan before even thinking of blooding them in the first team 😳
I would use the senior players as mentors tho 🙄

      (Quote)

  29. I think with Debuchy the bid is on for him, and Cashley is waiting to see who blinks first. I reckon Cashley is also waiting to see whether Debuchy himself can force the issue with Lille…. risky game I reckon, but if the lad really wants to come here then I would imagine it’ll be worked out somehow.

wonder if Chelski will set up like the Spanish national team of the Euros.

      (Quote)

  33. Ice, don’t want to go over old ground, but I reckon we should loan Ranger out for another season. He’s still young, and has a chance to develop. 🙄

  36. Well if Ranger goes its a fee in and a player on a 5 year contract out the door . Wonder if that would be enough to make Ashley spend the extra million or so to get Debouchy in ?

  37. Sorry – boys bedtime again 🙄

Andy – I’m not gonna string **** along just to avoid admitting I may have been a bit wrong. Advantages to both scenarios but admittedly there are more to the boys going on loan 😡

Ice it was funny to hear Pards say he has 3 great strikers 😆 😆

  42. DAVE i dont like pardew talking about players at other clubs telling them what he thinks they should do dont want him going down that wor arry path 😡

      (Quote)

  43. Yeah I agree he shouldn’t have went into details about what the dippers should or shouldn’t do.
But I don’t think anyone will remember that part and all they’ll remember is the bit where he said if an astronomical bid comes in for Strolla we’ll have to take it 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

  44. KIM your mam come round a bit after the nhs circus, been there done that and dont like the show 👿

      (Quote)

  45. Ice
Pards isn’t turning into Rednapp, the press asked Rednapp to give his verdict on everything whereas Pardew is just talking about a player he’s had experience with even if it was brief, and Newcastle are linked with Carroll so it makes sense. The closest thing to Rednapp at the moment is Allardyce.

      (Quote)

  46. Andy what where you saying about the younguns earlier ? should they be loaned out to lge 1 or champ clubs ❓ . or do you want them threw straight in to the prem ❓

      (Quote)

  47. Maintained all along I think the Carroll bid is an inside joke. Don’t think he would fit in and we would spend the money on either his wages or fees.

      (Quote)

  48. I mean, would we really smash our wage philosophy for a player who turned his back? Was never gonna happen, Pards, Ash and Dekka just rubbing salt in wounds
