Game On! Newcastle v Tottenham

Game on at SJP!
Well the moment we’ve all been waiting for is upon us as another Premier League season gets under way.

Tottenham are the visitors to St James’ Park this evening as Alan Pardew and his squad of players look to set about proving that last season wasn’t just a one-off.

The match itself is going to be shown live on ESPN which should ensure there is a chance for a lot of people to see it although it’s obviously best if you are inside the ground. Not everyone can be there though, for instance I’ll be in Amsterdam trying to find somewhere to watch it live, but if you are going make sure you have a great time and sing yer heart oot for the lads!

I’ve waffled on a bit about the match in the match preview which you can view here if you haven’t already done so. It details any news of injuries (and there is quite a bit of that with regard to us) along with some general thoughts about the game and a history of the fixture.

Which just about sums it all up really. I won’t go on much more as, well, there isn’t much need to. We all know what we’re here for and that is to will the lads onto victory in what is our first competitive game of the season. Usual rules apply, team news will be posted below as soon as it can be and if you find any streams worth watching and happen to accidentally post a link in the ‘comments’ section below well….. Go for it!

Howay the lads!

  1. Actually, without the Man City loanee Adebayor, Spurs would have been nowehere near the top of the league last season and that’s a fact.

Newcastle United won today through displaying true grit, and sublime brilliance when it was called for. The Ba goal was absolutely majestic, a half chance stroked into the net with absolute aplomb.

A stone wall penalty, superbly executed by HBA.

What about Pardew’s fore-arm-smash on the linesman, and Steven Taylor’s headed return to Timmy Krul when he was lying on the floor !. Immense result for the toon today. Tottenham will struggle for sure with the current bunch of under-achievers. Spurs are now on a slippery slope…

  2. You know what, at half time I thought; they failed to capitalise. They hit the woodwork at least twice in the first half. At half time, after a masterclass by AVP tactics wise, it was still 0-0. Game on as far as I was concerned. After all that they didn’t score and dealt their hand, it was there for the taking. In the end we got it and we were due a win over our old ‘bogey team’ after they had somehow kept us at bay for so long. All things considered and other results wise we have had a good start to the season.

  3. i hate that bloody arry what a bloody big gob ****-hole,his rant, quote none of the toon back 4 would even get on the spurs bench 👿 👿

  4. icedog, that’s why ‘arry is on the Nat King Cole mate ….he knaas nowt… 😆 😆 😆

Ideally parts of our back four shouldn’t be on our bench, but they were still good enough to keep powder puff Spurs at bay.

What about Stevey Taylor’s header back to Timmy Krul while he was lying on the floor. Brilliant man .. 😆 😆

  9. Kimtoon-Aye, it’s a good start. Hope to see plenty more of those 😉 Was a bit worried when we lined up in a 4-4-2, particularly without colo (even considering we had so many of those others who were supposed to be injured) but we did well. So glad Benny netted ❗ 😛

  10. I wonder what will Pards do if Shola isn’t fit for thursday ❓ Hope he doesn’t start Ba or Cisse, want them fresh for Chelsea, but can’t see him playing young Campbell. Maybe Vuckic, Marveaux and Obertan.

  13. What a fantastic day. Prize winner for the MOTM award: Ben Arfa; closely followed by Saylor, and Guti. Welcome to the EPL, Vernon.

Prize winner of the plum pudding award, one Troy Stavers.

If you look at nothing else, please look at Troy’s post @287” and my previous post to which it is a response.

I imagine most bloggers have tried to steer clear of the exchange that my brother and I have had on here, not least because it’s extremely boring. However, I implore you to check out the post by one Troy Stavers at 287 under the article headed “Newcastle v Tottenham Premier League match preview”. I laughed so hard I felt sick.

All I can picture is little Troy Tempest, little Storm Stavers, seeing his blog persona crumple in front of his eyes, and frantically fingering his key pad in a desperate attempt to cling on to his little empire.

Two things that struck me straightaway: one – the strange absence of woo hoo hoos, which I know will surprise regular bloggers.

Two, takes a little imagination, though not much: I invite you to read his post whilst at the same time picturing a massive vice crunching his nuts as he desperately tries to hold on to his last vestiges of credibility.

I knew he was just the Chief Superintendent of the Sweeping Statement Police of course; however, I honestly didn’t realise until he announced himself today on a previous post as the all-time guardian of good taste, nemesis of vulgarity, and upholder of fair play. I know he has re-invented his persona once or twice, but I cannot believe that this is the same man who either was banned from this site or was in constant peril of being banned from it.

Don’t get me wrong. The lad is my brother, and I love him to bits, but I cannot understand, when he is such a light weight, how he is allowed to get away with so much. I can only put it down to his sometimes insightful observations, good sense of humour, and mirthful wit combined with his overbearing and dogmatic character.

Typical Troy quote to finish with: “I ask you again, how can’t you see I’m right ”

Don’t think you’ve heard the last of this, fella, because I intend to respond in full in due course.

Finally, I couldn’t believe it when the lad next to me at the match nudged me, and said look Troy’s come on. You can imagine what I was thinking for a split second. You don’t even know Troy. What? Where? I wouldn’t put it past him.
There. Substitute. Short ****. Vernon Troy.

  14. Also what was AVB on about when on MOTD he said they were the better team? Sorry…no? ****** 😎

  15. Also glad to see Simmo was on song for us despite all the transfer/contract bollocks. He was a lot more solid than Santon in defence, and essentially assited Ba’s goal-imo. Full back not a priority really..

  16. Ah! That feeling of waking up victors again! 😀

So so pleased for Demba getting straight out of his rut, and HBA off to a flying start! Like the look of Anita! Tidy little player and a cool looking guy…. looks happy and relaxed 😀

Now who will we play on Thursday, and where the hell is Marv??

  18. I share Pardew’s view that he is a bit worried that Chelsea and Man Utd may try and come and perloin Tiote and Cabaye before the transfer window closes at the end of Jan.
Arsenal also fall into that category too, now that they have lost Song, and got another 16 mill in the coffers…., though why they would want to join a club in transition like Arsenal is beyond me. Perhaps only the Frenh connection and a HUGE offer could drag them away ?

I thought Cabaye had a great game, considering he hadn’t shown much pre-season. Tiote, what can you say about him, the man is a beast.

Anita looked a class act when he came on, tidy on the ball. He is more in a similar vein to Cabaye imo, but seems to be somewhat more mobile.

    Tiote the enforcer is irreplaceable.

Maybe the toon are playing a cute game with Cabaye, keeping him sweet with the on-off Debuchy saga. Cabaye would look a bit of a wazzock if his best mate came to the toon, and he left himself… 😳 😕

  19. First visit to SJP was a tense 1st half, but much more exciting 2nd! Gotta run–more traveling for me & the missus today. Good result & thanks for the tips to all you who guided me. Troy–I didn’t see any capes or fancy underpants, but I did see the famed Fenwicks!

I also saw Nile Ranger walking down the street. He’s a fucking big boy!

  20. Aye Sime, that’ll put a spring in your step 😆 Don’t irritate your work mates too much on a Sunday morning with your smiling demeanour and constant chirpy whistling and back-slapping .. 😉 😆 😆

  21. Hello lads and lasses. Not been on commentating for a while, but have watched from afar – mind that sounds a bit weird 😆 . Fantastic start to the season and chuffed to bits for Demba that he scored at last and what a goal to boot. Great atmosphere in the ground today. Lets hope the transfer window shuts without us losing any of the lads. We’ve got a cracking little squad and don’t want to lose any of them. Shout out to Perchino, again, this lad just gets on with it, no fuss.

  22. FSOTC – hope you had a brilliant first visit. You must have been a lucky charm so you’re gonna have to relocate and go every game to make sure our winning streak continues. Hope you’re enjoying the beautiful North East.

  23. Sime….aye mate I can believe it, that’s the typical demeanour of a toon fan these days…tralalalla life is good …howay the lads and more of it mate… 😆

Fantasy footy league….naah, decided to give it a miss mate, decided it’ll cost me too much time, which I don’t really have… 🙁

  24. Geordie Deb, welcome back ….

I thought the same yesterday about Perch, though at the same time Spuds didn’t play with a central striker, which made his life somewhat easier, cos Staylor was in at the thick of it when tackles were required, Perch cruised somewhat (in a positive sense)… The thing which impresses me with Perch is the way the lad has buckled down and won the fans over with some sterling displays. He isn’t a Paulo Maldini, but he just gets on with it, puts a tackle in and has really good distribution. Also can do a job as a defensive mid. Not too bad for a lad who only cost us 1 mill, which as we all know is peanuts in todays market… He doesn’t look out of place any more in our line-up..

  25. Fans Should Own The Club

So happy for you that your first visit to the immense SJP went so well. Surely has wetted your appetite even more…

Good luck with the rest of your travels in the wonderful north east, keep us posted.

  26. EvilFranky I have to own up to being a bit of a blog watcher….picked it up this morning from Ed’s blog…. 😳

With my post above I was only airing my own concerns as the transfer window comes to a close. Each of the three clubs I mentioned have glaring holes in central midfield imo, and Tiote and Cabaye are two class players. They all need to keep there stinking mitts away, but we know we have some stinking mitts at the toon too…. 👿 Roll on the 1st of Sept…

  27. Well Ed can **** himself and his retarded negative views.

Pardew hasn’t said nowt, just people trying to put 2+2 together.

On another note, someone on Facebook I know has a picture of them Carroll from last night and by all accounts he is coming back.

I’m going to say we have 2 final signings before the window shuts, Carroll and Pieters.

      (Quote)

  28. Evil@281,Reckon you might be right there mate, but word is Spurs may be about to bid for Carroll.
