Atromitos match marks a new era

Pardew looks to bring back the glory days

Newcastle play their first game back in Europe tonight against Atromitos. It’s the first European match since 2007 when we played AZ Alkamaar and beat them 4-2.

Tonight could mark a new era for Newcastle as once again we get toΒ performΒ on the big stage and amongst some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Since our last adventure into Europe we have been relegated, lost managers, changed owners and almost all of our squad has changed with only Harper, Ameobi, S.Taylor and Krul the only surviving members of theΒ squad from 2007.

But not all has negative as we now have what I think is the strongest squad we have had since the ‘entertainers’ era and possibly the best chance of finally ending our silverware drought. Also, since the last European game for the toon army, the owners have pushed the club in the right direction. For example, our transfer policy is now a template for other clubs to try and replicate – don’t spend stupid money on a player and give them ‘low’ wages. In my opinion this has helped Newcastle get to where we are now as under Shephard we would spend money on overrated players and give them a huge wage packet. Michael Owen and Alan Smith both being prime examples! When you look at the quality of players we are buying now, for such little money, it is astonishing; Cabaye, Tiote, Cisse and Ben Arfa to name a few.

This is why I think the Atromitos game marks a new era for Newcastle under the leadership of Alan Pardew and Mike Ashley, it shows how far the club has come since the last European game in 2007, the club is now sitting in a good financial position due to the policies enforced by Ashley and look to where it has got us….back in Europe and fighting the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea for league positions.

Surely this must be a reward for all the support we have shown the club over the years and stuck by the club through thick and thin.

So roll on the good times at Newcastle!

Howay the lads!

….sorry Connor, I did notice your name in the top right mate πŸ˜‰ …just assumed Toonsy would be pressing the buttons, as it were.
I’ll read the article later. Gona switch off now, I’m watching the game in about an hour on telly.

    HOWAY THE LADS!!!!

  2. Good starting line up in;

    Harper
    Tav/Williamson/Perch/Raylor
    Anita/Bigi
    Oba/Gosling/Marv
    Cisse

I may be reading too much into this much Simmo travelled but hasn’t even made the bench? πŸ˜•

Fancy us the night tho – 2-0 toon. HWTL πŸ˜›

  3. I see Sky are linking us with Raoul Loe – a 6’4ft 23yrs old DCM from Osasuna. Transfermarket.co.uk has him valued at Β£500k.
Either another media lie or another masterstroke buy by Newcastle – or a very cheap replacement for a Tiote exit?
I hate the last week of the window man!!!

  4. What the hell is happening? I’m in town so can’t see any stream at the moment. I know we’re losing but how are we playing generally.

  5. Think pardew has told them too look after their energy levels after watching that , commenator says its 30 degrees in the stadium . Have a feeling if we up our tempo second half then we will hammer them .

  6. Slow start by both, we were happy to keep the ball in our own half. Tav caught out a few times, caught bad for goal.

We have upped the temp since,.
    Anitia and Bigi playing well.

    Obertan shocking

  7. That was one big damp squid, least it showed that certain players hopefully will make it to the bigger stage, but there those that are way below standard.

  8. I was really impressed with Bigi tonight ,i think that lad is going to be something a bit special in a couple of years time . Obertan proved yet again that he is just not that good and for me can leave ,Marveaux was disapointing and Tavernier still has a lot to learn but looked decent when in possession , definatly a work in process . For me Taylor was man of the match .

This was one big damp squid. 😯

I like squid like as a change. Bit chewy and tasteless but a change from the norm I suppose.

    What about the game tho?

I found it more of a damp squib. πŸ˜›

Just a one for the future Axel. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, onto the damp squib, it was an expected result really bearing in mind our team.

I thought the tea lady Anita looked tidy.

Ryan Taylor over the wall again. Nice! 😎

I thought Pards’ kite was on show tonight. He looks facially young but his physique is starting to wane. Big talking point me thinks.

Maybe an article could be wrote on the issue. 😯

  10. TROY i could be missing something here but ASH1001 was the one on aboot a damp squid . Personally i think squids are at their best when wokked at high temperature ,then served with noddles and a spicy sauce .
As for the damp squib Bigi impressed me ,that lad is going to develop into something a bit special .

  11. Troy hate to disagree but thats well outta order ” Bit chewy and tasteless” well blame whoever cooked them because its not the squids fault they can be really sweet and tender or they can be spiced up a bit with a drop of sweet chilli sauce, so think on in future and don’t be running down the poor squid πŸ˜‰

TBH I think the game was there for the taking and as I said on the last thread I have nowt against the younguns etc getting a chance but they should get a chance along with the 1st team because they will be able to cover better for them when they do make an odd mistake, because they will, and they can help them feel more at ease and in so doing help them bed in better, but there isn’t much Pards can do that we don’t have enough quality experienced players, so the clock is ticking if we want to make a go of the EL ❗

  12. Bit underwhelmed by that tbh, was liking the look of Biggy and Amalfitano and Anita .Also Raylor worked hard and young Campbell has stacks of energy . Lowlights Tav and Obertan . Don’t know where we go with Oba really ,it just ain’t working out for him πŸ™ he looked to be improving in pre season too. I’m going to put it down to the heat as it looked very hot out there, hopefully we can whip their arses at SJP next week . πŸ˜•

Chelsea got Moses I see, would of liked him at Toon.

  14. Kim I honestly think Oba is a poor mans Routledge imo he just look clueless to me and always has, a lot of people said last season he was just lacking confidence but I think its a football brain he’s lacking which is surprising going by the size of his heed πŸ˜†

I prefer to clean the squid under cold water. Pull the tentacles from the body, removing the ink sac and entrails. Pull out the plastic-looking quill that is inside the body. Rinse the body sac. Cut through the head, below the tentacles, and remove the bony beak-like piece. Scrape the membrane from the body, discard, then wash the pieces again.
Chargrill or sauté baby squid for no more than a few minutes, or coat squid rings in seasoned flour or a light batter and deep-fry. Since it does not have a strong flavour in itself, squid benefits from being marinated before cooking or paired with punchy ingredients like chilli or chorizo. 😯

Wow! I didn’t know I knew so much but once I started writing it just started to flow!!!!! 😯 😯 😯

  16. Troy everything seems fine but may I suggest that instead of a few mins just do them for 1 min just flash fry them in a smoking hot wok  yum yum πŸ˜‰

  17. Moses definitely wasn’t worth the 9mil or whatever Chelski paid though, and he’ll probably rot there without any game time. This is why I thought we needed a better wing/forward rather than out and out striker. Obertan is poor and if Marv isn’t having a good game we can’t inject any danger-Jonas just isn’t dangerous. Benny is obviously first team. Amalfitano might be what we need though…looked good tonight. Play him in place of Obertan or summit..

  18. Exactly BIG DAVE a hot wok is the best for them , any more cooking time than 1 minute then they turn rubbery , would just like too say that TROYS prep is good though .

I tried this for a light lunch with salad. The only thing i did diferent was to cover them in a light oil before adding the spices, saving the need to oil the griddle pan. I will be trying this receipe with prawns next time, and i am sure the results will be tasty and a winner with my family. But yes I will try them for just a minute in a flash Fry pan. πŸ˜›

Wow! I will be talking about xboxes, computer games and what I had for tea next! Uh oh! I’ve just done it! 😯

Tried frying it earlier to his instructions. Nee griddle pan in the plakky bag though. πŸ‘Ώ I got fleeced πŸ‘Ώ …got free gran piddle. Me and my Spoonerdyslexia πŸ‘Ώ
