Fantasy Football update: Week 1

Welcome to the first update of the new Fantasy Football season and my return to writing from a lenghty exodus. I am going to try and give regular updates for this coming season and give those who are interested a low down of all the movers and shakers in the Championship.

Considering the league was created on the Friday before kick off at midnight, giving participants 11 hours to get a team sorted and get registered before the cut-off time, I was delighted to see a decent turn out and there are 46 teams currently competing for the glory of being nufcblog’s most tactically astute manager.

There is only 1 week gone so still a great time to get involved to anyone who missed the opening exchanges at the weekend. Get your team together on the Official Premier League Fantasy Football site and enter league code 1714976-385368.

Sitting pretty at the top of the table is team DBUK ran by David Brown on an impressive 86 points. The average for all registered players participating is 49 points so this is pretty good going! The rest of the top 5 are made up by Greenshield United, caBAye FC, Brisvegas and Campeao FC.

These clubs were all very clever in seeing that Chelsea would play 2 games during this period of points and each of them decided to include 3 Chelsea players. The standout performers being Ivanovic, Torres and Hazard so captaining any of these was a great way to boost up the table. There are no midweek games in the upcoming period however so if you were thinking of employing that cheeky little tactic yourself then you’re gonna have to wait!

Propping up the bottom of the table is the excellently named Shola’s Slayers. This actually happens to be my team….

On 18 points I happen to be 12 points adrift of second bottom placed. Experts are scratching their heads about this one as it seems almost impossible to be so far adrift of the rest of the league after just one game played. To put it in perspective, the highest points achieved by anyone on the fantasy football site is 139 points, which makes me 127 points less than that…or over 10 points for each player selected. Absolutely woeful. I have been trying to think up a good excuse for this and after drafting up a shortlist I have decided to go with this. I was so involved in getting you all to sign up, I forgot about myself. So I am in fact a martyr for the cause and anyone who rips the micky out of me should really be ashamed of themselves.

Anyway, it’s early doors yet and picking the right player as captain is everything in this game….howay Papiss Cisse son! Do the Chelsea!

So with the majority of the Chelsea team getting more points BY THEMSELVES than my WHOLE TEAM got, this should encourage anyone else who hasn’t signed up yet to do so….I for one won’t be too hard to chase up the table….

Good luck to all and I will keep you updated as the season goes on!

Make any inspired substitions which may propel you up the league? Let me know at so your forecasting skills can be mentioned!

  4. Thought id signed up for this one – glad i checked lol

Toyed with idea of sticking Johnson in there now he will get his game , but the need to clear the taste of vomit overcame the need of a few extra points

Don’t want to blow my own trumpet but I finished in the top 10,000 last year 😈

Toon bias definitely helped last year as it took ages for people to cotton on that we weren’t up there by fluke

  6. It DBUK,
Has Michu as Capt this week, done the buisness , need to make a couple of changes for next game week due Chelski not playing a fixture. Shame on anyone picking Sunderland player u need to have a bit of loyalty,
