With the scores level at 1-1 it would be fair to assume that Newcastle have the advantage after grabbing that vital away goal in Athens last week, but we’ve been here before remember so forgive me if I put the champagne on ice for a while longer.
We’re actually on the box tonight which is great for fans who can’t go. I’m holed up in Belgium right now so a trip to St James’ Park is way out of the question for me, but if you can go then why not get yourselves down there? The tickets are cheap and are still available right up until kick-off so you still have a bit of time to get there providing you live locally of course!
I won’t waffle on too much as there isn’t really much need to. You’ve most probably read the preview, or at least another preview, and I assume most of you are au fait with the relevant injury and suspension news? Team news will of course be published below as and when it becomes available.

As for Vuckic I think he has been hampered by injury. I was hoping he’d kick on after playing against Liverpool last year but it just never really happened.
I know they have talked up the development program but I’m not sure how much they really believe in those kids. Abeid, Moyo, Vuckic, Campbell none of them have made the step up yet. Gosling seems to have gone backwards if anything.

I was gonna go to the game last night but this transfer window has really depressed me that much I didn’t want to give the club 15quid. It’s a good job cos we were fucking abysmal. We really have two class strikers but we don’t create chances for them. Last seasons wonder goals dont happen every week.

There would be no point in having a youth set up if the aim was not to bring on a few that can make it into first team but we are hoping 4-6 make that step up to squad member this season and that is going to be tricky. However still happy with our starting 11 and up to youth players to show their worth. The ball is very much in their court now. HWTL!

We rarely moved out of second gear in the second half and when we did we easliy out played them. The team last night will have tougher test and we shall have to wait and see if we can overcome them.
Funny I found transfer deadline day as the day that fans that want their club to be successful and arn’t happy at how things are going have their chance to air their views.

I’m very disappointed with this transfer window, I expected the club to add more strength and depth to the squad.
In reality that hasn’t happened, I’m usually quite positive about our prospects throughout the season. I wouldn’t call myself a negative fan but this window has made me reconsider where we will finish this season.
I only hope that the targets we are going for at the moment are not available in this transfer window but in the January one. What happens when Ba, Tiote and Cisse leave for the African Cup of Nations? Who do we call on to lead our front line?
Very disappointed with how this transfer window has panned out, if we get any significant injuries then we may not better the position that we finished in last season.

Nope certainly not mate, had hoped for Carroll coming back but again I never expected Ashley to buy another striker.
It’s the lack of Defensive cover that we badly need that I expected to be addressed this summer, considering last January we pulled out of getting that guy from Watford on the assumption that better player will be available in the summer.

Maybe Ashley couldn’t afford any more players because he just bought the world’s supply of strawberry syrup. Rumours were that we ran out by Feb last season hence Ba’s terrible run of form, luckily we were bailed out by Cisse who had his own personal stock for the remainder of the season but he was unwilling to share it with Ba.
With enough Syrup both players will remain injury free and revert back to top scoring form and it also has the chance to turn players like Williamson into the Sol Campbell of Yore.

Ashley was too busy planning to buy into Rangers to bother with the club he owns and should have more ambition for. We’re just not prepared for what’s coming. Injuries and ACoN could put a huge dent in our finishing place. Lots of good young lads in the squad now but no depth across the back 4. No depth at striker either. Why no replacement for Best and Peter?
Well that’s that – It certainly looks to me that we have had to sell Forster, Loven and Besty to buy Anita?

If we were going to sell 2 strikers to get the cash to buy a player why not buy a striker? Has Xisco suddenly turned into the second coming of Messi? What is this love affair with midfielders? Surely we are going to have to loan a few of them out so how does that strengthen the team for extra games? Seven out, four in what is the reasoning here? How can we hang on to fifth with this kind of performance from Ashley/LLambias?
Sorry we actually only sold one striker but also a decent goalkeeper and let Peter go for free. Just don’t understand the thinking here. Was thinking actually involved? Maybe Llambias forgot to turn up the day the board discussed the lack of striker cover? Many more questions go unanswered. If we sit 8th at Christmas perhaps the owner should look at his managing director and ask him what the plan was?
If Demba/Cissé(good chance) and Shola(notoriously injury-prone) gets injured we are screwed, we’ll have to rely on one senior professional striker and Campbell

I don’t get the need for more strikers! We have 3 for 1 spot, should be fine till january.
I Think the 2 biggest needs we have are a left winger (one a’la ben arfa, right footed, so they can swap during games) and a right or left back, who is good both defensive and attacking.
That will strengthen the 1′st eleven and not just the dept.

Just had a look at the schedule with the 6 Europa games included. Very difficult run of games. Looks like players like Bigi, Raylor (oops he’s injured), Perch (oops he’s injured) Vuckic (he’s almost always injured) and Gosling (he never gets injured does he?) will get lots of playing time. Thank God we have brought in some experienced players to fill in when the injuries pile up. We have brought some in haven’t we Derek? Derek? Has anyone seen Derek?

Sadly you’re probably right Kimtoon @435. I hope we play well against Villa after this disappointment. A good home win should cheer us up. I’m dying to hear Pardew tell us he’s disappointed first of all.
Then we will get Lambias (no chance of Jabba speaking) telling us we made genuine bids for top players but it’s in the interest of our great club with tremendous history, (as he stands in the backdrop of the Sports Direct Arena) that we don’t pay over the odds for players.
Pards will be furious and walk out for a week then come back and tell us all we will use the January window to bolster any injuries.

Big Dave – It is fair to say I am reasonably happy with the club. When have we had players like Tiote, Cisse, Krul, Colo, HBA, Cabaye, Anita, Saylor, Ba, Marvo, Santon walking out in a black and white shirt? And with decent other players like Ober, Simmo, Perch, Raylor, Bigi?
Of course, I like to see us buy good players, and I like to ignore the financial side. However, although it is not my money and I don’t stand to lose my house if I spend millions, I do stand to lose my football club if it overspends. I keep saying Rome wasn’t built in a day. If we continue to make the same rate of progress over the next three years, I’ll be happy. I’ve seen the Makems spend £12M on Fletcher and I’m delighted for them. I’m also delighted we haven’t wasted millions on the likes of Strurridge, who is hopeless.
What’s your take on it? I know you say it was Jabba’s fault he didn’t do the due diligence, but that just means he wasn’t aware of the full amount owing. The club would have still had the debt whether or not he was aware of it.
I do have faith in the players and Pards but they still need some cover and to see some ambition by the owner.
not at all Dave , I am disappointed we didn’t bring in the 2 players we should of brought in a few weeks ago like everyone else. However I don’t think its a disaster people are making it out to br. I think the squad has improved and I think Cabaye and Cisse will be even better this year for us. I think we will give Arsenal and Spurs a run for their money for 4th.

B+B my take on it is that Jabba must have been a right silly fuker to jump in to buying the club without DD, that to me smacks of stupidity or greed because he thought he was getting a bargain and he knew that the other potential buyers wanted the time to do DD.
I also think this was one hell of an oppertunity for Jabba to get his plans for the club to leapfrog a couple of yrs because of our result last season, but with the extra games we’ll be playing and how thin we are as a squad I really think we’ll be very lucky to get top 6, and for me that will be a failure.
I also think that some of the top players will look on it as the club not showing the right ambition.

As to your question, yes I stand by it. If the players we have, with their quality, give their all, I’ll be happy. Anything else is a bonus. JUST EXPLAIN TO EVERYONE WHY YOU ARE MOCKING ME FOR THIS? I don’t think that, even if we had spent the £25M to £30M (or is it £20M you’re saying now) that you thought we would, that we would necessarily have finished fifth or better. Its an expensive gamble.
Anyway, it might be better to identify our priorities in January. Everyone wants to blow millions on the defence now when we might have no strikers in January. We might even pick up the likes of Debuchy or Douglas much cheaper then. Can this squad not last four months?

Big Dave – Its a fair point you make about the players ambitions, but players come and players go. Players come in, seeing and hearing other players leaving on the grounds of lack of ambition. Cabaye in the wake of Enrique, Nolan, Barton etc. They come for the money and they go for the money. To the extent it is an issue, they can see the progress the club has made in a very short space of time, and they are all playing with very good players around them. The likes of Tiote will leave for many other reasons if he is going to leave.
I don’t think anyone can claim to be fully satisfied with the window. If nothing else, we needed a half decent 3rd/4th centre back.

Sorry went to bed last night , and I wouldnt normally go back drag something up from the night before but I dont want yourself thinking Im some sort of lunatic wanting to prove Im right to stick it to a few fans. As I was on my phone last night I didnt make my second point clear saying Im loving some of our fans writing is off. That wasnt meant to be in terms of signings and that. But it does look like that. So my aplogies as it does look misleading. But I stand by it. I think we will be challenging for a champions league spot. I dunno if we will get it but I think we will be there or there abouts by May. But with fans writing us off I think it will lift the pressure we put as a whole on the team and it could be a benefit. Well if Jabba losses in the casino thats his problem because of his own stupitity, same as buying the club with out DD that was his own mistake and he should pay for that, imo when he bought the club he also bought the debt that came with it .
But he didn’t insread of paying of the debt because it was his mistake he decide to pay it of by loaning himsel the money, which then becomes our debt but if/when he sells the club you can be sure his debt will be covered, but until then he is going to make our club pay.
