Alan Pardew’s side will compete in the Premier League, Capital One Cup (or League Cup), the FA Cup and the Europa League throughout this season. That makes for a very busy fixture schedule for all those involved with the Magpies.
With having to field sides in four competitions it does make you wonder which one Pardew will choose to focus more on. Of course it would be fantastic for Newcastle to challenge for a cup after having gone so long without a trophy but would fans be happy if they focussed on that more than building on the position that they finished in the Premier League last season?
Or would they prefer for the club to focus on the Europa League? European football will return to St James’ Park on tonight and seems to be the most prestigious cup competition that the club can compete in this year out of the League Cup and FA Cup.
European schedules will be tough as already seen in the subsequent match against Chelsea last Saturday. Newcastle were clearly tired from having played Attromitos in Greece. That’s a risk that the club has to take and that perhaps may occur more throughout the season if we progress on to further rounds of the Europa League.
The Capital One Cup and FA Cup may see the club field young players along with those who are on the fringes of the first-team squad. That is perhaps the way Pardew may decide to view these two competitions, as an opportunity to give players who haven’t played experience in the Newcastle side.
With so many matches to be played this season, it will make for intriguing viewing to see who is fielded in each match. There is no doubt that this will be a season of exciting proportions for all those involved but to a certain degree, those within the club have decide what their main targets for the season are.
What do you think? What is our priority this season?

Without the purchase of premiership quality players i fear our hectic schedule will see us not challanging for anything.
priority must be to challenge for champion’s league otherwise you can not consider your team to be a major club.
To spend as little as possible without adding to much to the squad and finish the same or better as last year. Well thats the boards priorities.
Our immediate priority is to keep the players we’ve got.
Our next priority is a top 4 finish in the Premier league , then a good run in the FA cup and the last 16 in the Europa . I’d play the fringe players in the League cup and see how far they get.
Thought-provoking read, as always Zoe
1. Prem
2. League Cup
3. Euro (should be more of a lab to test our young/new players)
4. FA Cup
Agree with Danishtoon. Our league position is by far and away the most important thing.
prem league is more of a priority than cups then fa cup if any cup carnt see us finishing any ware near ware we did last season our squad is to small havent got enough first team players most of the youngsters need going out on loan
Nice one Zoe, Prem position for me followed by FA CUP cause I’m an old romantic ,then Euro and league cup. Great to be back in Europe but a bit pointless if there isn’t enough squad depth really tbh.
quality players needed cb lb creative attacking midfielder/striker or its midtable im afraid

3.FA Cup
4.League Cup
Priority this season would be to sell our best players for as much as possible.
I’m sure Spyro’s list of priorities are in line with Pardews, but without adding to what we have, it’s unlikely we will seriously challenge for any of them. The fact is with the Euro games and World Cup qualifiers that most of our players will be involved in – either traveling or playing, will take it’s toll over the course of the season and as a result I’m expecting a very average season all round.
If we dont sign defensive and striking back up then we’ll struggle to make top 8, therefore I’d like to see us prioritise the FA Cup followed by either of the ither Cups in a hope that we can pull off the idd resulr and land Europe again. Too many sides around ys have ir are strengthening in key areas. We cant compete, not even with Everton in my opinion. Prediction for this season without incomings: 9th. If we dail to win a Cup and consequently dail to qualify for Europe? We lose a few key players next summer and return to mud table obscurity.
Bleeding small keys making me look thick.
SHAMROCK i know whos think and it aint you mate
prem fa cup league cup euro
<<<<<<<<<<< thinks we will get euro football again next season hopeing champs league but would take euro league
Ha cheers Ice, to be fair small keys is just an excuse! Seriously though, no signings in essential areas is a gamble too far. I mean Anita is probably a canny player, but central midfield was hardly a priority was it? Still time yet, but silly game they are playing that could cost us dear.
<<<<<<<<<< wants center back brought in and at least 1 attacker
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/595723042?-11058 what ya think of that
It’s a hoax.
Jordan Rhodes, a good League 1 player but unproven in Championship level, never mind top flight – goes to Blackburn for £8m?! they have been had, smacks of desperation and could be the nail in their coffin…
City and Real Madrid in same group
Shamrock @ 23 its crazy money it really is. Cisse cost us 8 or 9 million depending on who you belive so its a shocking price. Fair play to huddersfield for getting that price but I cant get over it.
Rod @ 2
Berbatov to Fulham then
Looks like Dempsey is defo away then ,but will it be Liverpool or the Scum.
A lot of people slating the squad on here and saying we’ll struggle this season because of all the extra games we’ll have to play.
Surely if the squad is that bad we’ll get knocked out of all the cups at the first time of asking and end up playing even less games than last season?
The only way we’ll end up playing loads of games is if we do really, really well.
So which is it – I’m confused.com?
£12M for Steven Fletcher is more desperate, but when your an unfashionable, trampy club the only way to attract players is cold hard cash. Remember Gyan.
I’m sure Ashley and the board think we will stay in the top 5 without spending (the faeries visit Ashley and tell him so every day). Pardew is more realistic but has no real power. Llambias has much more important things to do than make reasonable offers for good players. Such is life as a Newcastle supporter. We’re better than Liverpool but several have passed or caught up to us (Chelsea, possible Everton, not sure about Spurs yet, and the usual top 2). This window offered great opportunities to improve the club, none of which were taken. We’ll be seeing a lot of Willo and Perch as CBs in cup games and Europe so we won’t last long in those comps sadly.
Our lot will sit tight until the very last minute watching the desperate clubs throwing millions around. If the players we want aren’t there to be had on our terms then we won’t sign them. Penny pinching but that’s the way it is, and where pure logic is involved it can maybe be defended at the end of the day.
However, this strategy may cost us MORE money in the long run, not to mention increas the danger of losing our big hitters and manager due to the owners showing lack of ambition.
If we qualify foe uefa cup proper we’ll be playing at least 6 extra games in midweek between league fixtures this season. We have more chance pulling off the odd cup result than trying to stay in the top 6 in my opinion, but that does not mean i’m confident that we will! Furthermore, if you think our defense and forward ranks are suitably armoured for the upcoming season then with all due respect, you are nuts! Still time for signings, but we have cut it far too fine and regardless of the outcome during this window, they have taken far too much of a risk.
heres a snorter for you, everybodys best player shola off to brighton on loan
twitter crap like,oh how i wish it was true
has DeBuchy signed for Real Madrid yet
I can see AP throwing his toys out the pram again anytime soon.
Llambsarse is gonna get one hell of an earbashing. And rightly so.
w@nker that he is.
ice – are you sure its not sammy instead
would make more sense like. Pointless sending the mackem slayer, we might need him

If we don’t spend anything we must make a decent profit when the financials are published.
Ashley could start repaying his loan to himself.
I’m excited.
BB kna mate defo shola, they are talking about it on eds some guy from down that area says its all over there place, imo a wind up unless someone is coming in
i remember our dad asking me years back why i didnt wanna get married
i was like, cos i need to concentrate on my work, saving money, my social life, mates & and then look to get a girl
he said, “why cant you do everything at once? why do you have to prioritise one over the other? thats what a real man does”
now i know this is different, but even in football, top clubs give it a go and GENERALLY do well in all comps
look at the much villified arsenal
last season 3rd in prem..champ league quarters, league cup quarters fa cup quarters
think peoples frustrations is that with a couple more key signings we could do well in all competitions
stand still and we will get overtaken
im 27 now and still not married

Tiote a major doubt for Villa game due to injury apparently.

Where you heard that? Can’t find it anywhere.
Chris, you can never really tell until KO. Loads of places will claim to be showing it but not all do. Best bet is to check on here for links just before kick off.
Would rather have had Vuckic in.
Strong-ish team. If Gosling and Obertan don’t turn up (which they’re prone to) we could struggle to create chances/
Just been on SSN Andy.

You owe me an apology.
He’s been forced out.
Are you getting it now?
Yeah Andy, I’d have liked to see him back too, but they obviously didn’t want us to have him. It’s not sealed yet anyway, just on the cards.
