Welcome one and all to our Game On article in which you can join the legions of NUFC faithful throw abuse at our boys in Black and White for 90 minutes with the odd compliment chucked in here and there.
We get back onto our geet canny European adventure this evening against the toughest opposition we have faced in the competition so far and it’s against a side that are coming into this one in fantastic form.
If you haven’t already seen it, check out Martin Gibson’s fantastic match preview here which provides a great build up to this one which I won’t try to replicate. There has been a lot of discussion on which starting line-up we will play and I think it’s fair to say that if we perform against this outfit as we have so far in Europe then we’ll be in for a tough time.
In previous Euro games this season I expected the fringe players who were given a chance…namely Marveux, Obertan and Gosling….to really try and stamp a place on the first team but to say they were lacklustre would be an understatement. In the earlier games we were relying solely on Ryan Taylor to either create one or score one and didn’t seem to have a Plan B.
Going out of the league cup should make the guys who do get a chance this evening more motivated to stay in this competition as there are now less games to stake their claims for first team football.
Some of my favourite NUFC memories have been in Europe and I really hope they take this competition seriously as with our current performances in the league it’ll be the anly way we’ll qualify! Whey! Ever seen a Mackem in Milan?
