Game On! Liverpool v Newcastle

Newcastle head to Anfield
Newcastle head to Anfield this afternoon looking to make a dent in what has been a horrible record at Anfield over the years.

Since the Premier League began, we’ve won there just once. In fact in our entire history we’ve won just 15 times in 81 attempts on the red half of Merseyside. Not good.

The annoying thing is I already have a suspicion of how the game will pan out today, a suspicion born out of years of going to Anfield and under-performing under various different managers and with various different teams. Whatever it is, it just seems as though there is something that will always get in the way of us giving a good performance at Anfield and that must change today if we are to get anything out of the game.

This Liverpool team are far removed from the all-conquering sides of the past. They simply aren’t as good as they once where and should be there for the taking. There is no reason why we can’t get a result there today, but I just feel that we won’t. Call it pessimism if you like…

My match preview is online and can be viewed by clicking here should you wish to have a gander at it. It features injury news for both sides, a brief history of meetings between the two sides and some stats and facts for your delectation.

The game itself is being beamed all around the world and is being showed live on Sky here in the UK. I don’t envisage there being an issue with finding a stream should you need to, but if any of you guys happen to find an especially good one then please feel free to leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below. As ever team news will be added in full at the bottom of this article as and when it becomes available.

Which just about wraps it up. Lose and we’ll stay where we are. Draw and we’ll stay where we are although we’ll move level on points with West Brom above us. Win however and we’ll jump to sixth in the table, and with games coming up against West Ham, Swansea and Wigan at St James’ Park with trips to Southampton and Stoke sandwiched between, a positive result could be a massive springboard for us.

Howay the lads!

    Micky Quinn’s a **** n all – he’s Liverpool pissed today like

      (Quote)

  4. Cisse just played a peach of a pass to Anita who got knocked off the ball like he was a feather. We got some lightweight guys who need to bulk up a little.

  5. This is killing me now. We’ll need something miraculous to get 3 points now. I really just hope we can end draw

      (Quote)

  6. Colo off ,that’s it we are ****** for this and the next 3 games now 👿 And sterling never even got a card for his late tackle earlier 👿

      (Quote)

  7. he’s very ‘cautious’ in his passing choices is mr Anita

i’m still waiting for Cisse to do something non-**** in this game

      (Quote)

  8. Sterling rolling around in agony in the pen box then less than 30 seconds later running like a whippet 🙄 cheating scumbag twats. 👿

      (Quote)

  9. Still 10th then ,ah well .More of a worry is what happens to our so called easy run of games now Colo will be out for 3 👿

Ok but now 10 games this season where he has done complete complete **** all the games.
I think Sammy Ameobi deserves a start, because he is really good going forward and can be really dangerous.
But Anita really disappointing for me

  11. Althiugh we conceded a goal from playing the high line in defence I would much rather we played that way. We ended up lighweight in midfield which resulted in them dominating posession. Killed by injuries and suspensions. Cheick would have bossed that today.

      (Quote)

  12. Not a bad result. Though there should be concern at our inability to finish games.

Cisse was just useless today. Problem with him is he has to score to justify his place otherwise we carry him all game. His play outside the box is just pants. He cannot hold the ball, pass and falls over way too easily.

      (Quote)

  13. There was some very robust tackles from a lot of reds players today and it’s sods law that Colo loses it and gets sent off. Sterling made a late rash one and just got a verbal reprimand 🙄 .

      (Quote)

  14. Well, I hope Colo is pleased with himself, we were lucky there. And I hope those who crucified Tiote are going to vent their righteous anger against Colo in due course, after all it was WORSE than Tiotes.

People got what they wanted, virtually a whole half of Papiss leading the line in a 4-3-3. What happened? He was poor, and we were average. He wasted a good chance and provided no hold up or passing play. Should Ba play when fit-Yes. Should he play through the centre? Obviously, because Papiss is still having trouble.

    And breath.

  16. Relieved as fook we came away with the point. Still can’t believe that Colo of all people got that red.

We’re in the deep stuff now for the next few weeks. On the other hand, Colo and Tiote in Europa will help us wrap our group right up

      (Quote)

  17. Sharpy I don’t know what he was doing 👿 a real stupid one.
TLR yeah but because of a stupid challenge we had to do without Tiote, and now because of a stupid one from Colo we have to do without him too 😕

      (Quote)

  18. Fabulous goal by Cabs as well, didn’t understand the subbing of him. He didn’t look that tired, was there a problem or something? He looked alright to me.

  19. I’m actually hopeing Cisse leaves us in January cause the poor bloke gets no love from our fans lately . 🙁 After such a fine display last season he deserves some faith in him ,frankly I’m feeling we don’t deserve him at the moment. 🙁

  20. Newkie @ 189.
    Spot on mate.
Colo so out of order with that assault. Cisse so bad. HBA wasn’t much better either.
Cant understand Pardew taking Cabaye off ❓
Sameobi no better than his bro imo.
out played and out passed AGAIN.
    Very poor performance over all.
Happy with the point tho in the end.
I thought it was in the script for a 90th min “GERRAAAAAAAAAAAARD” winner. The commentary was so pro red it beggard belief. Kunts.

      (Quote)

  21. Colo was a complete idiot with that challenge BUT has to be said totally out of character for him ,oh and he’s a coward too apparently according to skys pros. Difference between him and Tiotes tackling is Tiotes is too often rash where as Colos isn’t.

      (Quote)

  22. I don’t know how bad Perchs injury is but that’s Colo defo out for 3 and if Perch is out for a couple of weeks then defensively we are struggling again

      (Quote)

  23. Newkie, Cisse is a class player. I’m not sure what’s wrong with him right now, but he hasn’t just forgotten how to score.

      (Quote)

  24. It looks like Colo tried to pull out at the last second, but the intent was deffo there. Cant argue with the straight red. Stupid fool.
Tiote only has 1 more match to miss.

      (Quote)

  25. Happy we got a point. Liverpool are nothing without Suarez. I thought the red for Colo was harsh. I think that might be Pardew’s view. Like many others who have liked Jonas I think he needs to be dropped. He is unbelievably slow and his wayward pass led to their goal. I know he works hard but is that enough?

      (Quote)

  26. So Colo’s is out of character but Tiote is a dirty player..interesting, one with 2 league reds and the other with 1? 😆

Perhaps we don’t see what Colo is capable of when Tiote is usually shielding the defence 😉

Wellington-I’ve never doubted Cisse’s class. He is one of the best finishers out there. But right now he’s playing poorly and I don’t think it’s a sin to say so.

      (Quote)

  27. Cisse’s problem is Demba Ba.
ffs they just cant play together. Not for club or country.
One of them has to go for the other to come good.
    imho
Cisse has been made No9 and I think the club will be happy for Ba to go in Jan. Cisse will come good again after that.

      (Quote)

  28. Newkie@195 That’s not what I said is it ,I actually thought he worked hard but he needs to regain his confidence again which means playing time imo.So many of our fans are on his case. We talk about how bad he played , how well did any of our players really play today , not one really stood out for me ,they worked hard and dug in but noone excelled really.

Right off to see to Lewis ,back later.

      (Quote)

  29. Bloody hell Colo, ruined what would have been a near perfect weekend.
We should be looking at the table and our run of games with renewed optimism (3 points off 4th). Instead we have to worry.
Can someone please for the love of god find Cisse’s mojo.

      (Quote)

  30. Kim-I didn’t say you said that. I asked if you thought he played well. Nobody was superb, but Cisse was one of the worst on the pitch, pipped by Colo I suppose for that fucking stupid red card. He’s had plenty of playing time, we’ve been carrying him in almost every league game so far, and both last weeks fluke goal and his goal against manure, which people said would get him firing, appear to have done nothing for him.

I want to show faith, and I have faith, but we can’t carry players, no team can.

      (Quote)

  31. I thought Anita didn’t too badly – just needs more confidence from playing more. Commentators make me sick though. So one sided willing Pool to score.

      (Quote)

  32. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew: “We looked comfortable at 1-0 and lacked concentration for their goal. It changed proceedings and it has been a bad day for us. We lost three players to injury and our captain for potentially three games. We looked to keep hitting them on the break, but they are clever and Suarez is a great player. He was causing us problems and if we could have wrapped him up, we would have won the game. It has been a tough day for us. The sending off doesn’t look too clever, Coloccini tries stopping himself to some extent and there not too much intent there. The lineman has gave it, and we have to accept that. The referee got caught up in the occasion and I wanted to ask him about sending off. The morale of referees must be low after constant criticism and some of the issues around them are unfair.”

      (Quote)

  33. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers: “We were outstanding. Our possession and intensity was relentless. We went to sleep for the goal but I thought we deserved the three points. I told the players to stay calm and play how we were doing. We just couldn’t finish off the many chances we had. I am sure our draws will turn into wins. Suarez’s goal was brilliant and he has been fantastic. His first touch from that height, and touch was an incredible piece of skill and he is a world class striker. Most people in football know he is a threat, he plays the false nine role like [Lionel] Messi does at Barcelona. He will be disappointed we did not win.”

      (Quote)

  34. At the end of the day its a point gained away, that we didnt get last yr.
    Without Suarez cesspool are shyte

      (Quote)

  35. Michael Owen on Twitter: “Not having Coloccini’s red card at all. He didn’t touch him and to say there was intent is laughable. Let me tell you, he kicks a moving ball a thousand times a day and doesn’t miss it once. If he wanted to connect with a standing leg then he wouldn’t have missed. He pulls out at the last minute and doesn’t touch him. Not having that’s a red at all.”
    😯 😯

      (Quote)

  36. Newkie @ 203 I can’t believe your trying to compare the 2, but im starting to think you come of with wise craics for a reaction ❓ it must be 😯

Kim you need to get with it we need to drop Cisse because he is going through a **** patch which even Ba went through last season when Cisse helped us to 5th place. after all by dropping him he will get his confidence back in no time, and then when he gets his shooting boots back he will be God like to the ones that are wanting him dropped 😉

      (Quote)

  37. We fought hard, Colo’s red was a shame. Now we miss him for 3 games. Far too few chances on goal for us. Saylor had a very good game as did Sammy when he came on. Not sure what to make of Cisse’s struggles. He gets so few touches of the ball in the final third that it’s no wonder he’s not scoring but how do we change that? We’re becoming the draw specialists which won’t let us finish very high in the table. Pardew will have his work cut out for him in the next 2 months with 14 games including today’s. Very difficult run so if we get a few injuries it will make the second half of the season even more difficult.

      (Quote)

  38. Three players injured. I presume one was Cabaye then. How many of their players did we injure so they had to go off? What damage did Colo inflict?

      (Quote)

  39. Don’t know what Owen is on about (and I question his position/allegiances). But is was right in front of the linesman (who has direct radio link to the ref) and it was deliberate, it was nasty, it was late and Coloccini should know better than to get wound up by the little turd. He beat him for the goal and then wound him up IMO. Surez 1 Collo 0.

      (Quote)

  40. Can’t believe Owens twitter rant ,he must really want to get back in the Geordie goodbooks 😆

    Dave@215 ,I guess I’m just a misguided fool 😆

      (Quote)

  41. well I feel a bit deflated tbh.
Once again we have been out played.
We couldn’t match their intensity, nor passing skills and movement off the ball.
We had a few glimpses of magic, now and then, but created very little of our own. Yet again we struggled when the other team get stuck in to us, restricting our time and space.
I think the frustration of constant defending and the general lack of ability of our players to keep the ball, got the better of Colo.
We defended resolutely, but they had more than enough chances to finish us off.
I imagne Nolan will be our tormentor in chief next week. Especially with no Colocinni. 👿

  42. + points:

    Santon’s performance
    Anita’s performance
    Cabaye’s performance
    Taylor’s performance
    Krul’s performance
A point at a difficult venue

    – points:
    Coloccini’s performance
Coloccini’s red card and subsequent 3 match ban
    Cisse’s performance
Jonas still plays for the club.

As someone said earlier, we fought hard, but it’s the same players giving the ball away time & time again every week. I have been saying it for around two years now. Jonas has no place at our club – we have outgrown players like him i.e. all effort, no ability.

We will never dictate a game from start to finish whilst he is in our starting 11. He doesn’t contribute in any way other than chasing the ball down. Useless player.

    Quietly impressed with Anita today.

      (Quote)

  43. Collo’s red was down to the fact that Souarez had run him ragged throughout the game. Since they both blather Spanish they were probably giving it large winding each other up the whole game…

Too many players disappeared today, we cannot afford to carry Cisse and Ben Arfa, and Anita also looks too light-weight for me.

Our lot cannot retain the ball, and lack imagination and belief going forward. We have too many one-paced midfielders who contribute too little going forward.

      (Quote)

  44. Owen’s a businessman, he doesn’t care about any club. It’s possible he just called things as he saw them.

      (Quote)

  45. For me we really must give a free role to Benny. He defends really too much, after that he has not enough energy for going forward., We waste his talent completely like that
