Injury setback for Hatem
Injury setback for Hatem
So I’m guessing most of you have seen the news that Hatem Ben Arfa has been ruled out over the busy festive period?

The maverick Frenchman injured his hamstring in Europa League action and returned to action four games later against Fulham last week.

Unfortunately, and despite his promising performance, he aggravated the injury at Craven Cottage and missed the game against Manchester City on Sunday, with the decision now being made by management to keep him out of action until the new year, essentially to protect the 25-year-old from any further damage and a potential longer term injury lay-off for the playmaker.

Manager Alan Pardew said: “There is a danger he could tear his hamstring. If he did that he would be out for two or three months whereas if we do it the right way and be sensible about it, it may only be three weeks. And obviously that is the route we are going to take.”

Not good news when you consider he is our only creative player who has, well, created much this season. Add to that the fact he can change a game in an instant and it is undoubtedly cause for concern. Is it cause for too much concern though?

Many people will be disappointed with this news of course, but if you look at the games Ben Arfa will miss you have to ask if, on paper at least, his presence in the team would have much bearing on what many expect the results to be. Granted he will be a miss against QPR for sure, but what about Arsenal or Manchester United? Those two teams can hurt us with or without Ben Arfa in the side.

This is why I’m thinking that perhaps it’s not such a bad thing that he’s being wrapped up in cotton wool. Like Pardew says, the last thing we need is him sidelined for a large bulk of the remainder of the season so if he he is to be missing, could it actually turn out to be at the right time so we can use him against teams where he can really do some damage?

Just a thought…

Top CF’s who score goals like Ba, need keeping hold of. I will be gutted if he leaves.

I’ve just seen Pootle back on. Is it because we played above expectations last season and your anti Ashley banter the previous season reflected bad on you? So you didn’t have the bottle to come onto the blog? Hmm?

There are a few of us on here who thought the same about Ashley but did not hide like you did last season.

Please explain why you hid and didn’t stand shoulder to shoulder like the chosen few. 😛

  3. MM, Troy.. Thank God there are others out there that see sense. I was beginning to think I was posting in a forum for the mentally unsound…. Striker is selfish… Bloody hell. When the ball is in the final 3rd, it is the striker’s job to pit the ball in the back of the net. Does Ba do that? Fooking right he does.

It’s up to our ***** midfield and defence to start chipping in more or Pardew to find a formation and tactic that gets the most out of team. We cant expect Ba to do it all for us ffs. People will be severely shocked and upset when they realise just how ***** we are when he leaves if we dont get him signed up.

      (Quote)

  4. Ba is vital to us. If he leaves we’ll be up **** creak. He’s the best striker we’ve had since shearer.

Unfortunately it looks like he wants out 😥 , fortunately, his and his agents demands might scare off interest before it begins 😀 . Why wouldnt Arsenal sign him in the summer instead of recruiting Giroud and Podolski.
I doubt they’ll be happy benched. they also have gervinho.
I could see him going to QPR tho, like Barton. Big buck, **** team and crowd..

  5. Sharpy17, I think this is most definitely the wrong time to be gambling with our future by replacing a proven top goalscorer like Ba, with an untried Frenchman like Remy. I would be interested in playing BOTH of them up front for the toon, but not using one as a replacement for the other.

I don’t actually think that the French players are anything special to be honest. It’s not like a few years ago when France were world and european champions and had some great players throughout the whole team. The French national team has been treading water for years, and apart from Ribery and Karim Benzema they are much of a muchness tbh. The toons predelection with all things French is a bit bizzarre actually. Luc Remy wasn’t even in the French squad for the 2012 Euros apparently 🙂

If we sell Ba we will have a REAL relegation battle on our hands.

      (Quote)

  6. Mark, we should do everything within our power to retain Ba in my opinion.

If he leaves to go to QPR then he needs his heed looked at and we are better off without the knacker. If he moves to Arsenal, it will be an improvement for him sporting wise, and financially.

Either way, if he leaves the toon it will cost someone a shed load of money.

I would like any of our bloggers to explain to me how the team will be better off without Ba, purely on goals alone it makes absolutely no sense at all.

Ba is making our non-firing, non chance-creating midfield look good. You’ll all be sorry and shaking your heads when we are rooted in the bottom three by the end of December.

      (Quote)

  7. Shamrock – I’d agree with you about Bas goal scoring and he’s right to be a bit greedy in the final third at the moment. It’s his job primarily to score the goals not create them for misfiring strike partners.
But I’m also in favour of the club sticking to whatever the improved offer is an not meeting Bas wage demands. He’s been offered an improvement on his current terms so he’s being rewarded, but we’ve been down the path of paying players more than we can afford.

      (Quote)

  8. Mark@153…. Gervinho…..another great Francophile signing….. how much did Wenger pay for him ? We got Cisse, I think we got the better deal to be honest..

      (Quote)

  9. @Munich Mag

totally agree mate. I think hes ****. I was just saying they will have 4 strikers if they bought Ba. I’d be very surprised if he went to Arsenal

      (Quote)

  10. Sharpy17, if I was Ba cracking the goals in for the toon in a duff season, and looked across the changing room and saw the 80K man Collocini pulling on his shin pads, I think I would be peeved too to be honest.

Ashley went the extra mile to give Collo, who will be 30 in January btw, a MEGA extended contract. That he won’t pay Ba the big bucks, when he has done so much for the club over the last two seasons makes absolutely no sense at all.

Someone at the club needs there heeds looking at man.

Simmo will be the next to walk away for nowt. Judas Jose did it too. Throw in the genius stroke of selling Routledge then paying twice as much again for Obertan and we can all see there have been some bad decisions made over the years 🙁

      (Quote)

  11. Marky….if Ba’s agent is rattling cages to get him more money than so be it as far as I’m concerned. It’s all part of the game.

Maybe Wenger would like to sign Ba, but he’s gonna have to offload some players before hand.

      (Quote)

  12. MM – my view on it has always been that we should offer Ba the same pay as Colo with different terms in his contract to cover ourselves should his knee pack in. But certainly he we should improve his contract to be in line with the best in the club as he’s the best goal scorer we have. I have no problem with that at all mate.
But Ba wants more than that, he wants £10k more than that!, and it’s only my opinion but it doesn’t sit right with me.
Ba wants the contract on his terms so even if we offered £90k pw but wrote in terms covering his knee and relegation, I don’t think he’d sign it.
He wants everything on his terms from what I read into it and that’s nee good mate.

I would find it astonishing if there’s people out there who want Ba to leave cos he’s selfish.

    Has anyone said that?

      (Quote)

  14. Munich Mag @ 155 i will try and explain why we could be better without Ba , We get Remy in and he can and is willing to play on the left we then play Cisse as the striker and he catches his goal scoring form again (and he will) all of a sudden we have balance and quality and willingness in the front 3 , Ba has already shown and said he wont play on the left . Its a shame because it worked in the second half of last season but if a player is not a team player then get rid , Ba is no team player . Cisse is , he is out of form but is not spitting out the dummy like Ba has been . Its a team game and if a player thinks he is above the team it causes friction in the dressing room . Remy by the way is a proven goal scorer at the highest levels .

      (Quote)

  15. Sharpy17 dude, do you have someone in the know who knows what he wants … 😉 you seem to be confidently quoting salaries there mukka 😆 😆

Clubs want to use Ba’s “supposed” knackered knees against him to try and keep his wages down. Ba is keen to tell them to stick it in there pipe and smoke it. He is 27 and the next contract for him is really important.

If he has other suitors then so be it. It’s a question of who blinks first, if Ashley is playing hard ball, then so be it. No doubt he is also aware of the risk he is taking by losing Ba, I just hope Pardew and his advisors are having a word in Ashley’s shell-like.

      (Quote)

  16. Pity we haven’t got enough squad to have Ba & Cisse fighting out for the central strikers role, rotating depending upon form and opposition. I don’t see it as either or, I see it as both and with the rest of the squad strengthened in a similar way.

For me dekkas role is to create the income so that we can support 19 purples. We ain’t there yet. but that’s the target.

      (Quote)

  17. Sharpy, If it transpires the club offered Ba £80k per week and he knocked it back then fair enough. However, knowing Llambias’ track record, I dont believe that for a second. All we know is he has been offered an improved contract. What does that actuay mean? 5, 10k pay rise? Nobody knows. All I know is he is one of the top 5 goal getters in the Prem over the past 2 years, whilst wearing our colours. Thee are many strikers out there earning much more than £80k per week scoring far less than Ba. He is value for money. He’s not a mercenary like Owen, Kluivert et al. This knee stuff is a load of nonsense. He has done 3 years solid in the Prem wih no problems. His track record is sound. If we spend £20m on a replacement striker, that person would do well to score as many as Ba currently does…

My main gripe is people calling Ba greedy. We have no idea what he has asked for, or hat has been offered. BUT… I dont trust a word Llambias, or even Pardew to some extent, have to say.

      (Quote)

  18. A lot of the talk seems to be centered around CF’s and midfielders. I don’t mind that but if we only get one in I would think it would have to be a CB. If we lose Ba we can bring in Remy (or I would prefer to bring him in anyway). I imagine we would get next to nothing for Gosling. Hasn’t proven himself whatsoever and is almost always injured. I think the club know they are going to lose Ba so the Remy deal is essential. But a CB is essential also. This is a load of bollocks again if we don’t strengthen the back 4. I haven’t any faith in Ash/Llam but if Pardew isn’t pressing hard for a CB then he is a waste of space as well.

      (Quote)

  19. Well according to some, Cisse’s shiteness will dissappear the same day Ba leaves. So I dont see why we would have to sign another striker. After all we have Shola,
I’m of the opinion that if Ba leaves we are deep in the brown stuff.
I agree with whoever said we should keep our best goal scorer and pay him the extra wonga.
Its got to be cheaper in the long run than starting from scratch purchasing a new player, who could well demand similar wages anyway.
Once again clueless form from the regime imo.
    But hey, they know best.
    Cnuts the lot of ’em

      (Quote)

  20. Axel, I don’t consider the French League near the highest levels mate unfortunately. Having said that an average mid-table Bordeaux reserve side managed to give us a good battering a few weeks back 😆

I would really like to see Remy playing at the toon, I just think it is too much of a risk to swap a proven goalscorer like Ba for Remy.

I wasn’t aware that Ba had actually refused to play on the left, and to be honest if he has I agree 100% with him. Cisse is no way the main central striker, and especially so this season when he has been poor. He is a feed striker, sniffing in the box, and getting on the end of passes from midfield. That this sort of thing hasn’t been happening this season is more a condemnation of the poor support play from the toon midfield, than a reason to swap Ba and Cisse surely ?

I acually think Cisse is growing into his new position on the right hand side of the front line, and becoming a more complete striker. However, neither Ba nor Cisse are main central strikers as target men as such cos they haven’t got the body strength to hold up the ball. That’s why having static wing players like Jonas make absolutely no sense at all cos they don’t feed the strikers as such.

      (Quote)

  21. You think Ashley will pay for 19 purples Premand? We have 7 or 8 now. Doubling up would double the wage costs. I could only dream of a team with 19 purples. Unless by purple you mean the Llambias version where Simpson, Willo, Obertan, and Jonas are purples that is. In which case we already have a dozen or so but that is the usual bollocks. I love your optimism though. And the idea we will generate enough revenue in Ashley’s view to afford 19 purples is unlikely as well Other than the new TV contract (some of which Ashley will pocket to pay off his loans to us) we aren’t doing well at all. No European games of any kind next year, and we are actully getting less from Wonga (8M/yr) than we get from our current deal (10 M/yr). Discussing this is making my blood boil again mate aaarghh!!! 😥

      (Quote)

  22. Also amused that people think Remy is coming in if Ba goes. Just like all the other players we thiught were coming in suring reveng windows. Remember this is Dekka we are talking about. We’ll get Mariappa and maybe some youngster from France…anti-climax like usual.

  23. Do agents get payed when a player signs a new contract extension thingy and stays at the same club ❓

      (Quote)

  24. Axel – your opinion is purely hypothetical mate, there are no guarantees to what you are suggesting and it’s ideal world stuff.

Shamrock/MM – I am no more in the know than anyone else. I just base my opinion on what’s been said and how I perceive the situation.
I would love Ba to stay on an improved contract or on the one he’s on if nobody can sign him up.
I just don’t want him to get his own way when Colo signed a new contract with clauses in it, which Ba wouldn’t agree with.

      (Quote)

  25. Shamrock, we are all going to have to be on serious sphincter control come the end of January.

We are all pinning our hopes on Cabaye coming back after a bad injury and two months out to be a better player than he was at the start of the season. He was also part of the team who were performing pretty gash at the start of the season. Why should he suddenly start performing like a world-beater after 2 months out ? 😕

      (Quote)

  26. BB Cisses shiteness will disappear if he is played as the main striker because thats what he is , a striker . The only way he is going to play their is if Ba leaves . My point though is Cisse has yet too get stroppy but every one could see Ba was unhappy from the minute Cisse was signed . Everyone cast their minds back to last season after January and remember Ba’s demeanor on the pitch . Their was times we scored and he did not even celebrate the goal , but nobody was calling him ***** when his goals dried up , but people are calling Cisse ***** now because he is on a drought .

      (Quote)

  27. Shamrock @ 172. Very likely outcome.
I’ve said there’s nay point talking new players, cus its setting us up for a fall.
Apart from the Ba business, we need the defence sorting out. But which CB we get is anyones guess. Very much doubt it will be anyone mentioned in the press.

      (Quote)

  28. This idea that we will improve enough from within to move up the table with only 1 incoming is hilarious. Do Ash/Llam think there will be no new injuries in the new year? When has that ever happened with us? We could get Saylor back and lose Colo for a couple of months. And Tiote is going to ACoN just as Cabaye gets back. This is ridiculous as usual from Pardew and company. Why don’t they just shut their cakeholes? They are demoralizing their own supporters. Bring in 3 good players Ash/Llam. Cancelling the Christmas party doesn’t cut it for me.

      (Quote)

  29. Axel – I think its pretty much just me that has said Cisse is *****.
He has had a good few oportunities to get his name on the score sheet this season. Some very simple ones too, infront of goal and he has blown the lot.
His technique is all to pot. I find it hard to believe its all down to Ba being in the team.
There’s a whiff of citrus about him at the moment. We can only live in hope that he finds his mojo again, very SOON.

      (Quote)

  30. Cisse has played as a striker all season and had more than opportunities to score regularly, but has not managed to do what he is paid to do. I’m not ‘hating’ on him, but he’s not as good as people seem to think. I’d say keep Ba up front, get another quality striker in who can hold the ball up and bench Cisse. Then there is genuine competition for places and scope for rotating tactics withe the firepower to suite against specific opposition and weaknesses. That way everybody plays regularly if they are performing and more suitednto the particular tactic on the given day. Job done. Nobody needs to leave and if we want to be top 5 then we keep Ba and pay him accordingly for the gos he brings to our cause.

      (Quote)

  31. My guess is that Pardew has not only spilled a load of bollocks to the press over the last 2 seasons but he has probably done the same with Ash/Llam.
AP: don’t worry that you didn’t get a CB in Mike and Dekka, Willo is an absolutely fantastic backup to Saylor and Colo. We couldn’t do any better in the transfer market for under 10M pounds.
MA: that’s a tremedous relief Alan I thought I was going to have to spend something for a second there. Well that’s a huge relief. And what about this Ba/Cisse business?
AP: there’s no problem there whatsoever Mike. Cisse has assured me he has things sorted now and he has some tremendous new moves to show us on the pitch. Ba is just begging me to sign a new 3 year contract for a 5K a week raise.
DL: that’s also brilliant Alan. Bring him up to my office right away. So there should be no more reason for the supporters to complain then?
AP: absolutely correct Dekka. Top 6 here we come!

      (Quote)

  32. Shamrock/Munich – out of interest, if the board had offered the same contract as Colo with terms that his wage would reduce if relegated (as Colos is) and cover if his knee goes (although he hasn’t got a knee injury?!) but it was a contract that basically brought him on par with Colo – and he declined it – what would you suggest then?
Would you be happy to be given a contract for £90k with no reduction if relegated and no cover if his knee goes?
It’s a genuine question lads so please answer it honestly. I’m just interested to what lengths they want the club to go to keep him?.

      (Quote)

  33. The look on Pardew’s face during the last 8 games or so suggests to me that he knows the jig is nearly up. No consistency with the players, key injuries, little in the way of tactical nous, and a refusal by management to come to terms with how weak the team is. Relying on 4 or 5 players to make up for the fact we have 4 or 5 weak or underperforming players on the pitch most of the time is a recipe for disaster and we have baked it well. The fact that Willo and Shola are still considered key players for us is hilarious (or actually quite pathetic if you think about it). No sign of a change in mentality from Pardew, Llamibias or Ashley that I can see unless it’s all a big smokescreen and we sign 3 or 4 top players for 25M in January. Should we all put a wager on that one?

      (Quote)

  34. Sharpy, the knee thing is bolox. He’s done 3 years solid in one if the most physically demanding leagues in the world and not only coped, but excelled. To suggest that clause is an insult. We could do the same for Benny, Saylor, Raylor and even Tiote – who always goes off the boil following his religious fasting.

However, my offer would be equal pay to Colo. bonus for goals and cut in wages for relegation – providing that’s the case with all our other ‘purples’. If they want to offer him less than Colo out of principle as Captain earns the most then fine, but he gets big bonuses for goals to bring him back up to a par, provided he performs.

If he rejects that then fine.

      (Quote)

  35. I’ve always said that I thought Ba deserved to be paid on par with Colo. That would be my offer to him. The get-out clause with his knee is dicey. I don’t think he would ever go for it so I would only sign him to a 2 or 3 year contract. Bonuses for overall play, ie goals plus assists plus willingness to play anywhere on the pitch. I would ask him to accept a wage similar to Colo if we are relegated as well. Beyond that there is not much we can do. I think he is going to leave us and we will be far worse off without him.

      (Quote)

  36. Shamrock – if he has no problem with his knee he’s got nowt to worry about has he?, and yes mate, I’d hope that if the board have any concerns with other players injuries they’d write something into the contract.
It’s good that we agree that there has to be a realistic limit to what the club offer him tho mate.
Yes I hope he stays and yes I hope the board go as far as bringing him on par with Colo. But if they do and Ba doesn’t sign then we have to draw the line. 😉

      (Quote)

  37. No problem Sharpy. I am enjoying the discussion again today. I wish I heard as much sense coming out of the club as I do on here. Many of you have excellent ideas to improve the team. It’s a shame we have Llambias in that job because he appears to have none.

      (Quote)

  38. It would be nice, if Ba leaves – for either Ba or the club to quote the exact numbers that were on the table. That way the fans get to see if it was a case of player greed or club **** poor ambition coupled with lies…

I think we would deserve to know the truth in that scenario, seeing as we (the fans) provide the finances and life blood that this club requires to survive, exist etc.

      (Quote)

  39. Shamrock – 😆 😆 I should never have doubted you mate 😉 😆

G2 – I agree mate, though I’m sure it isn’t half as simplified as we make it like 😉

      (Quote)

  40. That would even the playing field out a little BB, but it would have to be stringent when you talk about a club’s revenue. That would need defining because it’s easy for your City’s and Chelsea’s to attract ‘sponsorship’ and call it ‘revenue’…

      (Quote)

  41. Shamrock – what like they did with the Carroll deal? The board saying one thing and Carroll saying another?!. Won’t ever happen mate.

BB – I hope it comes in sooner than later mate, I just don’t see how it will be regulated, coz like Shamrock says, some clubs will find a way round it like.

      (Quote)

  42. That will be a tough deal to make. How would clubs with such huge incomes as ManU, Arsenal, and Chelsea agree on a salary cap or other limit that would work for clubs like Swansea or Reading or Wigan? Whatever works for the top clubs will be completely out of sight for the small bottom clubs. Having said that aren’t we already getting financial fair play rules starting soon? I’m already suspicious that it won’t work but let’s give it a try.

      (Quote)

  43. We will never learn the truth about what Ba has been offered by Ashley. My guess is it won’t be enough. He just doesn’t want to believe that he has to pay fairly for top players. This is going to be an endless dilemna for us. Remember how easy it was all going to be? We come in with brilliant scouting and grab excellent players for low cost because their clubs don’t realize how good they are. Then because they are from foreign leauges we can offer them slightly more than they already make. Then since every signing we make is brilliant we offer five and six year contracts. See how easy it is? Oh wait Xisco is on a five year deal, and so is Ranger. What happened there? And now clubs don’t accept our lowball bids. How dare they? This was going to be so easy wasn’t it? Just ask Ash/Llam.

      (Quote)

  44. Thanks Big Dave. I think you’re ideas about Ba and Cisse have really spiced up the debate on here. I hope it gets sorted but I fear for us. I just don’t understand why they haven’t been able to play together. To me (and I hate to say this) it often looks like they deliberately miss each other with passes. Surely that can’t be the case? But it has happened again and again. They are both very skilled players and yet they rarely release each other for a good attempt on goal. It’s very fishy. I think it is about to end soon though as I can’t see Ba staying. It makes me think that all the talk about Remy is real as he can be a second striker or play out wide. What do you think mate? 😀

      (Quote)

  45. GEORDIETWO I know it sounds obvious but if no team take a chance he will stay, but from the few things I pick up on I think he will jump at the chance, I would prefer him to stay but I think there needs to be a few things sorted for the team, and No1 is that no player should get assurances from the manager, as for me I have said it 100s of times that is dangerous ground when the Manager bows down to a player.
As I see it Benny is our most important and best player, so what happens if he decides in a few months time that he wants a pay rise and assurances from Pards does Pards then give in to them ???? what I f Cabaye does it ??? it just sents out a bad message and causes **** in a team when the whole team can see that one player that isn’t even the Captain gets treated better than the rest.
TBH I don’t think there is any chance of us getting Remy and we’ll be lucky to get a CB in 👿

      (Quote)

  46. Could the answer too our problems be too sack AP and bring in a French manager ❓ Give David Ginola the job i say ❗ 😀 then we may get the best out of Marveux , Obertan , Abied and the rest of the “frenchies”. Its a cunning plan .

      (Quote)

  47. Axel my Son in law is a big Manure fan and he thinks we have seen the best of Obertan, and I tend to agree with him 😯 , As for Marv I think he needs a decent run in the team and im sure he must be pissed of when he see’s a clearly out of form Jonas get picked ahead of him and even Pards has stated
“I have to show faith with my best players and if they are having difficult times then sometimes you have to stay with them.
Jonas Gutierrez has been an example of that – he has not been playing great but I will stand with him to try to get him through it”.

So what is that saying to Marv ?? it’s not a very good message, and not a very good example

      (Quote)

  48. Dave
I understand Jonas hasn’t been lighting up the PL but I’ve been even less impressed by Marv. Don’t understand why everyone’s bigging him up as if Pardew was playing Duff ahead of Ronaldo. Marv usually has between half an hour to twenty minutes when he comes on and in that time he looks knackered/not interested, he misplaces his passes, crosses are rubbish and he shoots whenever he sees the goal, hitting row Z each time.

  49. Hi Troy. Firstly, I don’t really owe you an explanation about anything. Not sure why you would think I do?

However, I’ll humour you, the main reasons I stopped coming on is I got bored of listening to the ***** coming out of the ‘Ashley has great 5 year plan’, ‘we must protect his bank balance’, ‘tactics are too complicated for ordinary people’ gang.
More importantly I also have had loads of things going on in the real world that have been far more important than arguing pedantically about NUFC on a blog.

Don’t know what he meant by “they would not talk to me”, seems a bit odd, other players usually have a glowing report of Newcastle. Maybe he’s just a wee **** thinking he’s Juve when he’s really Whitley Bay 😆 .
In other news there is a good chance I could go to the QPR game, the downside is that I would be staying with my sister in Middlesborough 😯 .

  51. Thanks for the reply Big Dave. I have to agree no single player can get too big for his boots or we are in real trouble. We somehow have to maintain good team spirit but cannot bow down to the better players. It’s a bit of a fine line sometimes. I wonder if Theo Walcott is giving Arsenal the same problem? They seem willing to try to keep him but they haven’t had much success keeping their bigger players over the last couple of seasons. I think we are going down the same road. Ba is a terrible example for us because we will get so little money from his transfer. As far as the young Swedish player is concerned I think unless we get news of it happening several times I don’t place too much value in it. If it is an ongoing problem within the club however it has to be stopped quickly.

  52. Andymag does your sister know how you feel about it? Maybe she has plans for you when you come. A nice job tidying the house and then sit down to tea with some of her girlfriends? Tell her there are much more important things in life and get down to the pub man! 😆

  53. @204 – Bag Dave, that is very different to Pardew’s sentiment upon taking on the job. The complete opposite in fact!

  54. More strange statements from Pards Big Dave. Is he saying form doesn’t matter? Jonas has had a lot of leeway given him already. I just don’t see the same effort from him and to me he looks overweight. Do we really know what type of player we want in that position? Or even what Jonas’s best position is nowadays? He looks to have lost some pace and his wing play was inconsistent at best. As a DCM he might be decent if he was fit but I’m even beginning to doubt that. There are a lot of question marks for us in the midfield this season as with every other position except goalkeeper.

  55. Dave I’ll be amazed if we get Remy in. I’ll be amazed if ‘the one’ player we need in (according to the clowns in charge) isn’t a cheapy with considerable risk attached in some form or another.
That’s IF we actually get anyone at all.

We can live in hope, eh?

  56. All this talk from Pardew about he, Dekka, and Ashley realizing they should have brought 1 more player in during the summer is just another smokescreen for me. They had the opportunity to strengthen the squad and walked away from it. They had no idea that we would play as poorly as we have this season (who did?). But what is the use discussing what they should have done? Get on with it Ashley. Tell Derek what you want and make sure he gets it done even if you have to hold his hand. It’s up to you to save this season Ashley. Let’s see what you’re made of. We’re waiting but no much longer. Get it done and no more whinging.

    @Pootle

Those important things in your life have disappeared now then? Coinciding with the slump of the Toon. Hmm? 🙄

So its now a lot easier to make your comments again. 😉

It’s the opposite to Wolfie. We couldn’t get him off last season as he predicted great things. He’s vanished this season. 😯

Is there somewhere you’s go that we don’t know about? 😯 😛

Moving on though. What did you think of last seasons success?

It took me by surprise. I predicted a season like this one.

    Lack of investment, **** results.

I’m quite happy Pardew has admitted the regime and himself made a mistake by not bringing in a further senior player last summer.

Better than keeping Schtumm or denying it.

They really need to make up for it this January. We’ll see.

    Some of them haven’t.
What makes any of it any of your business anyway?

I only came on because I was having a really boring night at work and had read BBC news website from back to front.

    @Pootle

Just an observation I made about your absence that’s all. It may all be coincidental. 😉

Please stay, I used to enjoy your input. It will take a bit of time before I establish whether it was coincidental or not so bear with me. 😉

I’m sure we used to often sing from the same hymn sheet. Shame you weren’t here to give us your input when we were flying high. I expect a few others to resurface if things get worse.

Of course, that could be purely coincidence as well. 😉
