Debuchy deal confirmed as Ba slams door shut on Newcastle

One in and one out today at St James’ Park as two pieces of well known transfer news reach a conclusion.

Incoming we now have Mathieu Debuchy added to our ranks after a long and drawn out affair that dated back all the way to the summer, and outgoing we have Demba Ba who has left the club and signed for Chelsea. Neither part is exactly new news but it does draw a line under two pieces of speculation and now everyone can move on.

First off Mathieu Debuchy, who will wear the number 26 shirt at St James’ Park. The 27-year-old French international joins ranks with his good friend Yohan Cabaye and has signed a five-and-a-half year deal with the club for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £5 million. As is tradition with a new signing, Debuchy has been speaking to the official club website.

“It is great to become a Newcastle United player.” Debuchy told nufc.co.uk.

“After many great years at Lille I felt I was ready for a new challenge, and cannot wait to play for such a big club in the best league in the world.”

He added: “I hope I can bring something fresh to the team and help us get up to the highest possible position in the Premier League this season. I will give everything for this Club.”

Alan Pardew has also had his say on the matter and it seems he is happy to finally get his man and add to his squad ahead what is a vital run in for the side.

“We are absolutely delighted to have finally secured the signature of Mathieu,” Pardew said.

“It’s no secret we’ve been trailing him for some time now and to have reached this point fills me with great excitement and anticipation in respect of what he will be able to offer the team. At the same time it’s a huge relief to actually have him with us now.”

“He is an established top international player and it is a real coup for this Club that we now have him at St. James’ Park. Mathieu will add real quality to our team, in terms of his ability, character and experience and I am sure he will quickly become a firm favourite among our fans too,” Pardew concluded.

Meanwhile, daarrrrn sarrrrfff, Demba Ba has competed his switch to Chelsea and has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the club. It was always a matter of when, not if, he signed on the line for Chelsea but at least we know where we stand. Ba admits it was an “easy decision” to join the Stamford Bridge outfit.

“It feels good to be here, I’m very happy and very proud,” the 27-year-old told the Chelsea club website.

“It was important for me, and for Newcastle, to get my future sorted and now we can move on. Now they have the whole month to buy someone. Now I am here I just need to get settled in.”

Ba added: “When the club who won the Champions League wants you, the decision is very easy. This club is massive and that’s something that helped the decision a lot. It was not a hard one.”

So one in and one out, but are you happy about it?

  1. Long overdue quality signing for the problematic right back position, bit down hearted to hear Pardews comments about being patient in the striker replacement hunt and Cisse not playing tomorrow, why is it the club have no problem selling players but its the longest drawn out most difficult thing in the world to get a player in ” Over the line” as they keep saying?

  2. Sounds fair enough to me – as long as it’s not the end of transfer activity. I’m an optimistic guy but these two deals could be it. Mindboggling that we’ve had Willo struggling away, pretending to be a footballer for THREE years. 3 years!

      (Quote)

  3. And other clubs seem to have all their ducks in a row and when one player goes, one comes straight in, we dither around and are normally left with our trousers around our ankles come the end of the transfer window.

  4. Pleased we got a defender in now all we needs a couple of cb and a striker to replace the judas

      (Quote)

  5. Couldn’t give a toss about the FA Cup now. My only concern is staying in the league, for that we need the likes of Colo and Cisse fit for as long as possible. Risking them in competitions that we have no real hope of winning is bonkers.

  6. well the agent of douglas has said there has been no contact from toon, got to be true those guys normally say there is alot of clubs involved

      (Quote)

  7. Ice , Not sure Douglass is the answer going by what some that watch him have said. Maybe we are looking at someone else ,didn’t you say you’d heard something about a CB the other day? or was you teasing 😉

good shout bud would allow us to play on the front foot and line the def on the halfway line as he has the pace to get back into position unlike the 2 donkeys we got at the mo always trying to defend becasue of there lack of pace, the must buy of this window for me

      (Quote)

  9. Now all of you are going to blame Collo for the goals.

    ‘Not fit for the EPL’
    ‘Too slow’
    ‘Too Old’

  10. Micheal12 ,Seriously man ,wtf is wrong with you ? ,no one is saying Colo is at fault for all the goals shipped ,it’s a collective mess at the back .As for your continuing rant against Cisse ,you need to start backing our number 9 ,that’s what we do ,like we backed Ba when he couldn’t score too .Get a grip will you. 🙄

      (Quote)

  11. Michael12@11. I’ll buy into the “too slow” bit for sure 😉

That we also gave Collo a 5 year contract at 29 is highly questionable…

A bit like the 5 year contract for Debuchy……

    and Ranger….

and the 8 year deal for Pardew….

    and Carr…….

    and Carver…..

Where do we get these contracts from W.H.Smiths ?…..

If you have been reading this blog for most of this season you will have read people blaming Williamson for all the goals even when he is not on the pitch.

In fact Williamson has been responsible for Cisse and Cabaye’s poor performances.

Debuchy is likely to take his position but People are not going to be willing to blame him so someone more palatable will be blamed. Don’t be shocked to hear people blame Ba even though he is now at Chelsea.

      (Quote)

  13. Yeah, agreed. Great signing Debuchy ! Welcome to the toon bonny lad !

Maybe Pardew would be better off shutting his kisser for a few days ?

Williamson blamed on this blog for Cisse and Cabaye’s poor performances ? Cannot believe that one big man … 😕 😕

Now… Ba being blamed on this blog for Cisse’s poor performances. That is a 100%’er…. 😉 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  15. @Kimtoon: Dare I say how easily people blamed Ba for the whole team’s poor performance. Williamson too has taken the brunt. Ba Blamed for Cisse’s inability to score. You guys need to get a grip.

Cisse is finished. Game over for him. He will never reach the lofty heights he did last season. Several off side goals and some lucky one’s too.

First point -False no one blames Willo when he’s not on the pitch 😉

2ND point- False ,Debuchy won’t fill his position he will fill Simmos RB position 😉

3rd point- Now you are just ranting for the sake of it mate ,have you actually been watching us this season or what, if you are then you will know Debbie is a RB not a CB 🙄 😳

    point 2 I’ll give you.

Point 3 is the same as point although I am not ranting.

Point 1 I’m right and you have not been reading this blog. Apparently the williamson argument goes like this. Williamson hoofs the ball by passing Cabaye and thus it is his fault.

      (Quote)

  20. Micheal12 , My initial reply to you was because you stated everyone would blame colo for the goals ,for some reason you then went onto bring up Willo ,maybe you meant Willo in the first place ,I don’t know you do seem to go off on a tangent at times.

  21. MICHAEL12 @ 24 i see kimtoon comments a lot on these blogs tells me she reads it bud unlike ya self dont see 2 much of you on the blog so maybe you should watch the games a bit more before you comment bud

  22. Michael12 – are you twelve? Willo gets a lot of stick because he’s the worst Centre back we’ve ever had. Even as a twelve year old you should know that!

      (Quote)

  23. @27 …. marcelleno, Boumsong, even for the old old I give you Glen Keeley, Williamson is no booby moore but he by far not the worst one I’ve see in the shirt 😀

      (Quote)

  24. TOONARMYELITE – Not sure what you are getting at? I don’t have any player names on the back of my Toon tops…what is your point?

      (Quote)

  25. Aye – don’t have a problem with what either player have to say on their moves. Debuchy seems to fully appreciate our current position and sounds up for the battle, so that’s good.
Ba – all the best to you son, thanks for the goals and good luck getting all those spelks out ya **** from being sat on the Chelsea bench.

CB wise, I hope we put as much effort in getting a CB as we do a CF. I do think CB is probably more important than CF, but with Ba leaving I think most will focus on us replacing him.
I think probably Douglas would be a banker to get in and would probably cost around £4-5m, and I do think he would be a good player for us but may take time to settle in, and if we are facing a relegation battle I’m not sure we could afford him that time.
Personally I think if there is a chance of Villa getting Lescott then we should hijack that deal. Lescott already knows the league and would be solid alongside Colo. It would also allow us to get Douglas on a free transfer and then fully focus on getting that position sorted in the summer.
There is also rumour that Jonas Olsson at WBA has a £3m buy out clause which Arsenal are looking at. I know the lad is about 29yrs old, but again he knows the league and alongside Colo who do well. He’d do for a 3yr deal.

I’d prefer us to get Sakho or Yanga M’Biwa, and there’s suggestions that Saints are interested in Davide Astori for around £8m, who I also rate pretty highly. But to be honest, if we are shelling out £10-12m for a forward, I don’t see us spending much more than £5m on a CB.
So I reckon either £5m on Douglas or loan Lescott as spend in the summer with the Wonga and tele money available then.

      (Quote)

  26. Yeah, I’m happy as I’ll no longer need to spend time defending Ba or Simmo nowadays. Just as well as I don’t have the time to go over the same ground constantly 😆

Looks like it’s just me and Shola from here on in… 😛

  27. @Kimtoon + ToonArmyElite

Observe comment 27 more unsubstantiated criticism of Williamson. I have read arguments here that blame Williamson for the team’s poor performance Be they tacitly or directly. Williamson has been accused of causing Cabaye’s poor performance because Williamson by passes Cabaye with long balls.

@Toonarmyelite: Unlike you I do not just watch the games I analyse. I suppose the reason why your analysis of games is so poor is because you just watch.

  28. Put the handbags away lads and lasses.

Ideally Willo shouldn’t be anywhere near the team. Because we have no other centre backs then he will get a game by default.

That we have no competition for Willo’s place is down to Pardew.

That he tries his best, there is no doubt. The lad can only give his best, and to be fair he does. He’s just not good enough for the team.

That he has a place at the centre of our defence is all down to Padrew. So Pardew should take the rap for the fact that we have no good centre halves at the club.

He has had two years at least to address the issue. Willaimson is not the answer.

      (Quote)

  29. Two things;

    1) welcome to Newcastle United Mr Debacle. Oops, jumped the gun there – seriously how long until he starts getting slagged off? Going to happen. I hope he is as good as advertised, certainly looks it. What’s his first name by the way? I’ll try again – Welcome to Newcastle United Me Debuchy – the Toon needs you to be a good’un!

2 – Michael 12 – Ba is a better striker than Cisse in my opinion – however to say Cisse is finished is ridiculous. He’s just not being utilised properly. Granted he has less in his box than Ba as an all rounder, but my word he can finish. Get him in the centre with a proper supply and they’ll be flooding in – he’s such a natural finisher when ghosting in. We just need to get back to playing with footballing intent instead of hoofball. He’s not made for Wimbledon style footy and neither is most of our squad.

Not having Simmo make his runs forward then duly lose the ball & leave us exposed at the back is going to solve some of that problem immediately wih a bit of luck!

  30. Ice – Why do I get a horrible sense of déjà vu (pardon the French pun) when I read that link on Remy. It’s frighteningly similar to the Lille crack about Debuchy in the summer – or am I just paranoid?! 😕

      (Quote)

  31. Also Michael, recognise your name for sure – but Kimtoon is on here daily. She does not threads, is up to date with all things Toon and watches pretty much every game. She knows her stuff 😉

@indykaila: Remy talks with #NUFC are still early stages. Player wants clauses in contract. ESPN story is way of the mark. #Newcastle

@indykaila: Personal talks ongoing regarding Remy. Once agreed or not will update. #NUFC

@indykaila: Loic Remy advisors are meeting Newcastle officals in france. Negotiations are taking place this morning between the two parties. #NUFC

      (Quote)

  33. If talks are ongoing with Remy then perhaps the Times article was right and a fee has been agreed ?

      (Quote)

  34. Not fussed about clauses. Most players have them in some form or another. If it’s an escape clause they want, as long it’s a price beneficial to the club then so be it.

      (Quote)

  35. Bring in remy for what £7m and Jonas Olson for £3m( if it is true about his Claude) and I for one would be happy. Mike wouldnt even have to go bankrupt to finance that….

      (Quote)

  36. 3HW – what fee does the Times reckon has been agreed or do they not quote the amount just that one has been agreed?. Also, if Remy will only come subject to a but out clause being allowed, if its anything like Bas I hope we **** him off and run a mile!!.

Ice – I hope so mate, rather that than another nightmare stubborn French board to deal with 🙄

      (Quote)

  37. Sharpy this is what the Times said:

Newcastle United have wasted little time in their attempts to replace Demba Ba, having opened transfer talks with Loic Remy after meeting Marseilles’ £9.75 million valuation of the France forward.

I expect any clause will be regarding if we were to get relegated

      (Quote)

  38. The other option for around £3m would be Pieters but I don’t know how fit he is or whether he’s more suited to LB and just fills in at CB or whether he’d be competent enough there?.
I think I’d sooner see Pieters in for £3m than Olsson aged 29yr like.

      (Quote)

  39. Pardew talking about buying a new striker when everyone else in the NUFC universe is shouting for a decent centre half. Sort it!!!

      (Quote)

  40. If it’s just a “will be sold” if we get relegated, you can’t argue with that as we’d need to sell him anyway. It just depends if its one like Ba had where he can walk for free, which is probably the one he fancies. You need to be careful in that situation, will they give their all if they don’t adjust to tyneside and fancy picking up a free signing package somewhere else…

      (Quote)

  41. Happy new people. Been a while since I’ve on, hope you have missed me!! Been reading the comments on here for the last couple of days and you all seem to be fighting with each other And with some supporters from other clubs!! got a sore throat so I’ll leave posting some comments for while! 1 in 1out, who would you like to see leave the club next?? Catch you all later

      (Quote)

  42. 3HW – I’d be happy enough with paying that sort of figure for him like. But I think anything over £10m would be too much IMO.
I have no problem with relegation clauses to be fair, but these buy out clauses just hands player agents even more power.

      (Quote)

  43. Finally eh….. bring in Loic Remy, Douglas, Pieters and Olsson and stop testing the patience, committment and loyalty of the NUFC supporters Ashley……….

  44. Toonsy if your about how about you check your emails 😆

Glad to see Debuchy in now hurry up and get a few more in and makesure the next one is the most important the CB we have needed for a few seasons now

      (Quote)

  45. I dont know why all the people are worried about us going down.
we have a squad that can compete with any1 in the league. ok we lost Ba but have Debuchy. Staylor and Cabaye are back soon.
I do accept loosing Ba is not going to be easy but if you looked at him he is selfish and the reason why we couldnt score more goals.
Even loosing Ba we can score goal/goals with the current squad. My worry is letting goal in and we have an excellent young keeper and keepers develop later as they get mature (hope so) and now we have good 1st choice fullbacks. I kno collo is good but he is aging and we need to replace him with his quality and with pace.. (this is the hardest as NUFC supporter as we never had a decent CB in history since 1992). I would like to see 2 really good CB in and then worry about a striker ( there are plenty of strikers in the marked who can score 10+ goals a season) and we have always found decent striker. Lets built a team from back 4 and we can win Trophies….. … TK……
DM ………..CB?…..FC………….DS (ST Replaces FC depending on games)
    ………..VA………………..CIT…………
….HBH………….YC…………SM?….(depends on team we can use GB/SA/SF)
——————PDC……………………(now find suitable young striker! )
With this team… scoring goals are not problem… as Staylor and collo may get injured if they play week in week out we can rotate. so lets go and find proven CB now… spend $10Mill or more or less on better than Collo type defender. Long Live NUFC
